If the weather cooperates today, I’m hoping Stephen Strasburg ($9,300) comes through as my ace in DFS games. There’s a chance of storms for this match-up with the Phillies, so start at your own risk. That said, the Phils own a wRC+ of 84 against right-handed pitching. That’s good for 28th in baseball and Strasburg should have little trouble against them. In his last start against the Phillies, the 26-year-old right-hander gave up two earned runs while striking out nine batters in just 5 2/3 innings pitched.  That was part of a recent string of four starts with at least eight strikeouts. He’ll have a tough time sealing the win with Cole Hamels on the mound for the Phils, but the strikeout upside here is enough for me to want him as my SP#1 this week. He’s ranked #1 on the Stream-o-Nator today at a $24 value.

Marcus Stroman, SP: $8,300 – For under $9K, Stroman is a solid play against the Houston Astros and their 23.7 strikeout percentage against right-handed pitching (2nd highest in MLB). The Stros are also ranked 24th in baseball with a wRC+ of 88 against right-handers. Stroman has been on a roll recently. The 23-year-old has allowed only one earned run with 20 strikeouts in his last 21 innings of work.

Rajai Davis, OF: $4,200 – With the Austin Jackson trade, it appears Davis will lead off and play center for the Tigers going forward. The king of SAGNOF playing everyday means lots of steals and solid counting stats from the top of the Tigers’ lineup. Davis is ranked #39 on the Hitter-Tron and will have the platoon advantage today aginst left-hander Jorge De La Rosa.

Emilio Bonifacio, 2B: $4,200 – Should Bonfifacio find his way into the lineup again today, I like him as a steals play against Tyson Ross. Ross has allowed the most stolen bases in baseball (24 SBA) and Bonifacio has 14 steals in just over 300 plate appearances. One thing to consider is that Bonifacio is only hitting .233 against RHP this season as a left-handed batter and we all know you can’t steal first base.

Adam Eaton, OF: $4,400 – Eaton comes into today ranked 21st on the Hitter-Tron. He’ll have the platoon advantage against right-hander Kyle Gibson. Gibson has been inconsistent this season, giving up zero earned runs his last time out after surrendering six in his previous appearance. Eaton meanwhile has hit .481 over the past week with seven runs scored and a stolen base.

I’m Only Happy When It Rains

There’s a decent chance of storms (40%) for the PHI@WAS, MIN@CWS, and SEA@BAL games.

Doing Lines In Vegas (12-13)

I’ll take the under in the PHI@WAS game (6 1/2) to try to even the score.

Get mr mike , what a major bummer about goldy. Is he 100% droppable in all formats now? My league is a 10 team, h2h pts & redraft league

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

Redrafts, yeah you gotta figure he’s droppable since his season is likely over. Terrible blow to a lot of fantasy teams. Hopefully its happening before a lot of redraft league trade deadlines.

      • Derek says:
        (link)

        @Mike:

Exactly that’s what I thought & I just read that his manager Kirk Gibson saying that realistically his season is over, major blow is right- I just hope the rest of my offense players can step up.

I’ll now play duda @ first.

        My others I have are

C gattis, 2b pedroia, 3b wright, SS a Ramirez , iF d Gordon , of Harper, of pence (monster game today ) , Brantley, Holliday & Carlos Santana @ DH & polanco utility & springer on bench/ DL , have Bruce too on bench.

My trade deadline is august 8th
Would you look to make a trade for a 1b or a bat in general? I already know some teams won’t trade their “elite stars”- but if you did recommend piecing together a trade, which type of player would you target?

Or just hold with what I have ?

        Thanks again!

        • Mike

          Mike says:
          (link)

Anytime. I’d hold what you have. Duda should be fine minus the occasional benching against a tough lefty.

In talks to trade my maddy bums for Rizzo.
I just lost Goldy and have Duda as my backup, my team already lacks in HR as is, and my pitching will still be Price, Sale, Cobb, Arrieta, Gausman, Niese, and Wily Peralta.
10 team, h2h league, sound like an alright deal?

    • Mike

Yup, sounds like a good deal. Nice trade.

My team is shot In a keeper league so I’m trading looking forward to next year. I won’t keep a guy like Werth so is it cool to trade him for Alex wood (6) to keep. Budget is 375

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

I’d look to get more there for Werth. It’s not that it’s a bad price for Wood, I just think you can shop him for better.

I need to drop one of these…..Archer, Stroman or Y. Ventura. Who should it be? Points League. Don’t want to, but gotta stream this week.

    • Mike

Tough call. I’d keep Stroman and Ventura personally.

  8. Scooterboy says:

I have a couple of questions please. Trying to set up my lineup for playoff run. I currently have Erik Aybar and Alcides Escobar. Would you drop either one and pick up Jason Kipnis who is available in my league. My second question. Carlos Beltran and Gregory Polanco are both available in my league. My outfield is Braun, Harper, Moss, Rios, & Duda. With Alex Gordon and Kole Calhoun on my bench. Would you drop any of these outfielders and add above mentioned players? Thanks.

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

I would take Kipnis over Escobar and I’d consider Polanco over Gordon.

  9. OT says:

who do you bench out of Gomes, Gattis, Vogt this week in a 6×6 ROTO OPS 2 catcher league

Hitter Tron likes Vogt the best, then Gomes, Gattis. OAK has 7 (2 against LHP) while ATL has 5 games.

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

      I’d go with Tron there

      Carter. Ride the hot streak.

        Also holt or chisenhall ?

        • Mike

          still Carter.

eh, I like Holt’s flexibility, but yo could flip a coin there IMO

Mike, 14 team roto keeper – with A.Jax moving to Seattle, was thinking of offering my Ellsbury for their Rajai/Fister. Thinking Rajai with full playing time could be pretty nice – thoughts?

    • Mike

      Mike says:
      (link)

sounds good. I talked about the AJax move a little bit in today’s SAGNOF column. Davis should get a big bump moving forward.

      • J Boy says:
        (link)

@Mike: Thanks Mike! The deals have now changed a bit – I’d be making 2 separate trades which in essence would be giving up Ellsbury, Niese and likely Cuddyer for Rajai, Greinke and either Nathan or Hudson.

Which side do you like and if it’s Rajai, you like Nathan or Hudson as the 3rd piece?

        Thanks!

        • Mike

          Mike says:
          (link)

          anytime. I’d take Hudson
