Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

A title in tribute to my indie rock/emo wife, whose compact disc collection of bands I’ve never heard of almost matches my collection of baseball players she’s never heard of. Sonny Gray ($10,600) isn’t necessarily one of the elite pitchers according to DraftKings prices this Sunday and Stream-O-Nator doesn’t care for the start, so this pick is kind of a wild hare from the depths of Mike’s mind. It’s hard not to like what Sonny Gray has done already this season with a K/9 of 8+, a BB/9 just north of 3.00, and a 54% groundball rate. He’ll need that groundball rate today as the wind is blowing hard out to right field at Fenway. Aside from that, the road start against the Red Sox doesn’t scare me since Gray has actually pitched better away from the Coliseum this year. Let’s hope the pick pans out, or I’ll be putting on my black eyeliner and heading for the nearest mall with the emo kids.

As always, take advantage of the great tools we have at our disposal here at Razzball. The Hitter-Tron and Stream-O-Nator are particularly useful for daily fantasy. I’m partial to stolen bases thanks to my regular column here, so I’m going to pimp another tool called SB Rates vs. SP. It allows you to see how pitchers fare historically in terms of stolen bases allowed. I think it’s worth mentioning given there is a big points swing between a successful steal and a caught stealing. If you’re new to the site, you can start an account using our DraftKings link. Last but not least, I’m running another 5-man contest (FREE) today so you can check on my lineup. We’ll have a special guest from Razzball in the contest as well. Hint: He wears a turban. Here’s some other picks for today’s DraftKings contests…

Anthony Rizzo, 1B: $4,300 – Rizzo has a little hot streak going with another homer yesterday (off of a lefty again no less). He’s a nice pick if you’re priced out of the Abreu/Morneau/Goldy tier.

Daniel Murphy, 2B: $4,700 – I always say his name like Rick James from the Chapelle’s Show skit much to the disappointment of my family. Our son went to art school to be a fantasy baseball writer? WTF. Murphy has the Coors connection so I’ve been drafting him all weekend.

Pedro Alvarez, 3B: $3,400 – See the weather report below to find out why I like Pedro and a bunch of other Pirates and Blue Jays today. By the by, Alvarez just got traded in one of my leagues for a bag of baseballs. If you’re not already targeting him, he’s a great buy low as some owners tend to focus on the low batting average and not the improved peripherals and raw power.

Mark Teixeira, 1B: $4,500 – A hot bat and some wind blowing out to the short porch make Tex a nice play again today. He was a solid pick for Smokey yesterday (HR, 3 RBI) and if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Honorable Mentions…Starling Marte ($3,800) and Wil Myers ($3,100) – Marte gets a favorable match up against McGowan while Myers’ bat has shown signs of life again. Both are reasonable priced.

I’m Only Happy When It Rains

There’s a decent chance for showers in Cincinnati but nothing I’d be too concerned about. I’m more interested in the wind blowing out hard in Pittsburgh and New York (to the short porch).

Doing Lines In Vegas (2-6 Overall)

I split last week but it would be nice to land both picks this time around to work my way out of the hole.

This week I’ll take the overs for TOR@PIT (8) and TB@NYY (9).

    Hitter-Tron says to start :

    (103) Phillips @Home facing Lohse over (104) Dozier @Home facing M. Gonzalez. Agree?

Also its so low on Choo (323) facing Skaggs. Why?

I prefer Dozier. Lohse pretty good against Cincy.

Not sure why on Choo, but he scored a bunch for me last night

      Can’t remember where I read that. ;)

Nice call on Wil Myers today. He was way to cheap not to start. Good luck defeating the turban!
I think I’ll set one of these Razzball freebies for Wednesday if you want in. Great way to introduce the Razzaholics to DFS play. Cheers, my SAGNOF! friend.

hey Mike – am I dropping EY for any of the following: Maybin, Oswaldo, De Aza, BJ Upton, Chris Young, or Lake? looks like he’s lost his everyday gig… probably need more power than speed, but good combo would be nice

    thanks!

Hmmm. Prolly wanna check the ROS player rater, but my gut says to go with either BJ or Maybin

@Mike: thanks – so EY is definitely droppable right? what are your thoughts on Oswaldo – most pop out of the bunch (above)?

also, just a quick P question – drop Bauer for Cain (DL stash), Fister, Burnett, or Porcello?

        Thanks again Mike!

Yeah, Unless you are really desperate for steals, it seems like he’s the fourth OF now.

Yup, Arcia most power. I’d drop Bauer for any of them, but I like Fister most of that bunch.
