It’s official, DraftKings has broken me. It started with Tyler Lyons getting destroyed at home by the Cubs on Monday and I never fully recovered. The doctors say I’ve been catatonic since then only to wake late Thursday night shouting ‘they bat .188 against opposing LHP you !#@$)(%#$@%@!’ Needless to say, I’m typing this from what my wife has lovingly coined ‘the fun house’ and what with all the white padded walling and little cups of multi-colored, pill-form heaven, I have to say I’m feeling much better now. Or is it I can’t feel anything? When the doc asked me to take a look at some pictures to tell him what I saw, he said he was amazed by the findings. In every single inkblot, I saw Daily Fantasy values. Here I saw the Stream-o-Nator pointing out that Tanner Roark was a top 10 stream play on the day. Here I saw the DFSBot tell me he was undervalued by $300 relative to what his expected outcome was, making him a great value play. And here…well that was clearly Yngve Malmsteen covered in butter playing ukulele to a bunch of Travelocity Gnomes at the Grand Ole Opry. Sadly, the doctor now says I can’t leave but at least there’s wi-fi here. So without further ado, here’s some more Razzball picks for today’s DraftKings contests for 2014 Fantasy Baseball…
Lance Lynn, SP: $9,000 – The Braves currently lead the league in team K percentage at 24.3%. Lynn currently has the 16th best K/9 ratio at 9.57. If this were Business Time, we’d say the conditions are perfect. I’d consider him a nicely priced SP2 for cash games today.
Jorge De La Rosa, SP: $7,700 – You down wit GPP? It’s officially naughty by nature to even think of starting a pitcher in Colorado which makes these types of contrarian plays pay off big in tourneys if they hit. Key word being ‘if’. That ‘if’ might also apply to this game actually going given the weather reports…*sighs*. George Of The Rose might nab you 6-8 K and a win with reasonable ratios against a Padres team that has the worst wOBA in the league. Don’t know what wOBA is? Sorry, trade secret like how to shoot a deck of cards out of your ass is a magic trick no Magician would tell a mere mortal how to do. But Guru might let you in on what wOBA is. Heck, he might let you in on both.
Yusmeiro Petit, SP: $7,900 – For now, the Marlins are one of the worst road offenses for the league. Of course, they scored 13 runs at Dodger stadium all of just two days ago so just realize you came looking for a Petit value and might stumble on a grand mistake.
David Phelps, SP: $5,500 – You can’t get more contrarian than this. I’m even going against the weather reports here! Phelps has done nothing to prove this is a good idea. However, the Pirates have proven to be one of the worst offenses on the road so far this year. Well, one of the worst offenses in general but this team has been officially lost at sea away from Pittsburgh. Don’t even go at this in cash games but in GPP he’s fair game.
Carlos Corporan, C: $2,300 – Completely a punt play here with the hopes that the less sucky side of his splits turns into a bomb. He’ll probably bat 8th and he plays for the Astros. How excited are we?!?
Drew Stubbs, OF: $3,900 – As Colorado players get more and more out of price range to roster, there are still some nice values to be had when a lefty takes the mound. Not only has Stubbs been on fire of late, he’s slugging .622 at home and .515 against LHP on the year. Welcome to Colorado, Eric Stults. You can also call this a bit of a nod to Brandon Barnes. I’ll take whoever bats higher in the lineup or both if they’re starting. And while I’m at it, if Charlie Culberson gets some run at second on the night, well you have your cheap punt option at either 2B or SS for the measly price of $3,000. Colorado games at home are like Christmas for Daily Fantasy players. Like I even need to tell you a COL stack is in order…if the weather holds, of course. *Shakes fist at weather Gods*
Scott Van Slyke, OF: $3,200 – He already has 2 HRs off of Wade Miley this year. Can he make it three? Will he ever grow that sweet mustache again? Will he even start? Stay tuned to Baseball Press to find out!
Wil Myers, OF: $3,800 – It’s been a bumpy season so far for Myers and I have very little to say you should start him other than his price being reasonable and him having 2 career HRs against Jered Weaver in 3 career ABs. Basically, maybe he Wil maybe he won’t be a good pick.
Elvis Andrus, SS: $4,100 – It was at first thought that Elvis had left the building but he’s come back lately with his greatest hits collection, going 11/26 over his last 7 games. I think Yu and company dominate the Jays and the offense slowly breaks down Drew Hutchison and gets to the creamy center that is their bullpen in short order.
Tyler Moore, 1B/OF: $2,900 – Moore has had success in the past against lefties and was used as the platoon of LaRoche in the past against LHP. Will he find that magic again? Well he’s got the starting gig and Niese on the mound to find out. Let’s find out if paying less for Moore gives us more for less.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
NYYvsPIT – As of this writing, there’s a 70% chance of rain at game time and the radar doesn’t get any kinder or better. This is probably a PPD which hurts my GPP call above. FML.
PHIvsCIN – This game is looking a bit spotty at 50% chance of rain at the kickoff. But you’ll notice I suggested no one above from either team so you should be safe. I mean, you listen only to me, right?
BOSvsDET – East coast, man. They just don’t want baseball played there tonight, apparently.
COLvsSD – I come out of my catatonic state to see scattered Thunderstorms and a 50% chance of rain in Colorado? Goodbye cruel world…
Doing Lines In Vegas
CLEvsOAK at 7.5 – I’m thinking this will be an over game as it’s gonna be a matchup of ‘good not great’ on the mound and both teams have respectable offenses. This one is also a low end weather alert, though, so double check picking pieces from either team.
KCvsBAL and MINvsSEA at 8 – I like both games to be chalk full of offensive goodness. If I have some spots in my lineup that are empty, I’ll look to here to fill my holes. I mean plug my gaps. I mean…gross.
