Pricing is absolutely wild at two positions on Tuesday night: First Base and Outfield. There are nine outfielders priced at $5,000 or above, while first base has four players in the $5K club. Paul Goldschmidt is the $5,000-club headliner on Tuesday night given his home matchup against the atrocious Matt Moore. I’ve always liked Matt Moore, but my affection for him at this point is that of a two-legged dog. He’s still my buddy, but he’s basically useless. If you look at Moore’s game log over his last 10 starts, you may start vomiting uncontrollably. To say this guy is worthless would be an understatement. It’s been a rough start for Goldschmidt, but the weather is getting warmer and I truly believe he’ll still finish the season batting over .300–he’s at .261 right now. So, pick on Matt Moore on Tuesday night. It’s nothing personal, we all still like you Matt. It’s just business.

Zack Greinke, SP: $11,900 – It would appear that Greinke is officially back–at least on the road. On Tuesday night, he gets a home start, but he’ll be facing the Tampa Bay Rays. The Rays are batting just .232 against RHP this season, but have also clubbed 61 home runs against righties, good for second in the league. Given Greinke’s price tag and the fact that he’s at home, I’d recommend only using him in GPPs. I certainly like him, but there are better options in cash games.
Cole Hamels, SP: $10,300 – This is my favorite pitcher on the board on Tuesday night. Hamels has dominated the Astros over two starts this season, including an eight innings, 11 strikeout game on May 22. Houston leads the league with 571 strikeouts, so Hamels should have no issue reaching at least six K’s with ease. On the flip side, if you want to get kind of crazy, use a Houston stack in a GPP. You never know when a guy could have an off night.
Steven Matz, SP: $9,900 – Matz gets a tough matchup on Tuesday night, but that’s not going to scare me away, especially after an extra day of rest due to Monday’s rainout. The Pirates are dealing with several banged up players including Andrew McCutchen and Francisco Cervelli. After an elbow scare, it does appear that Matz is totally fine and I wouldn’t have too much of an issue pairing him with Hamels in cash games.
Julio Urias, SP: 5,900 – If you want to get creative and use a low owned arm, look at Urias. His first two starts came on the road and he faced the Mets and Cubs, respectively. Things should get much easier on Tuesday night against a Rockies team on the road. We are looking for six innings and six or seven K’s from Urias and if he can manage that, he’ll crush his value. Remember though, GPP only!
Jonathan Lucroy, C: $4,600 – Though Lucroy is only batting .174 against LHP this season, I still love this matchup. Lucroy is on fire and faces A’s rookie lefty Sean Manaea. His price tag is high, though, and I prefer him in GPPs.
Welington Castillo, C: $3,500 – This is a match made in heaven. Castillo will face Matt Moore at home where he owns a .442 wOBA against LHP. He will be a staple in my lineups on Tuesday night.
Edwin Encarnacion, 1B: $4,200 – There are several high priced options at first base on Tuesday night and surprisingly, Encarnacion isn’t near the top. Encarnacion is 7-for-21 (.333) with two homers over the last seven days and gets a matchup against a young lefty in Matt Boyd.
Pedro Alvarez, 1B: $3,700 – The Orioles have been hitting a million home runs and even Alvarez is getting in on the action. One thing I learned while watching Alvarez front and center here in Pittsburgh is to ride the wave. Alvarez is one of the streakiest hitters in baseball and it appears as though he’s in the midst of a positive streak right now. He’s batting .353 with two home runs over the last seven days.
Daniel Murphy, 2B: $5,300 – The price tag is out of control, but the matchup is just too good. Mat Latos is a brutal pitcher. He didn’t used to be, but he certainly is now. I suspect his calculating wife had something to do with that as she scoured social media for anyone that hated on her man. Nevertheless, Murphy has been on fire since Opening Day and has hit three homers in the last week.
Jurickson Profar, 2B/SS: $3,400 – If there is one pitcher that strikes fear into no one this season, it’s Dallas Keuchel. From AL Cy Young winner to certified bum, it’s been a hard fall for the bearded one. As for Profar, he faces Keuchel on Tuesday night and has been on fire since being called up. It’s Profar continues to lead off, that’s just icing on the cake.
Josh Donaldson, 3B: $4,900 – This is your staple Josh Donaldson against a lefty reminder.
Alex Rodriguez, 3B/1B: $3,500 – At age 40, A-Rod keeps plugging away, but he’s just not that good anymore. Have no fear though–we aren’t going to kick a man when he’s down. In the DFS world, there is no better time to embrace a guy like A-Rod. He gets a home matchup against a left-hander that just signed a minor league contract with the Angels three weeks ago in David Huff. All we are hoping for here is a home run and the matchup is juicy for a long ball.
Xander Bogaerts, SS: $4,600 – It’s easy to overthink things in DFS. On Tuesday night, Bogaerts faces a journeyman right-hander in Albert Suarez. So what we are looking at is a cake matchup for one of the purest bats in the league. Bogaerts is a total hitting machine as evident by his .345 average over 238 at-bats this season. Don’t overthink this.
Aledmys Diaz, SS: $4,100 – The rise of Aledmys Diaz has come seemingly out of nowhere, but he is here to stay. He’s batting .360 with a home run over the last seven days and will face lefty John Lamb who has given up a .376 wOBA to opposing righties.
Jose Bautista, OF: $4,200 – This is my third recommended Blue Jay because exposure to this game is important. I’m all for a stack if you want to go that route. Bautista is batting .250 against lefties (compared to .218 against righties) with four homers in 56 at-bats.
Ryan Rua, OF: $3,400 – I have no issues trotting Rua out every time he faces a lefty. He’s batting .385 against southpaws this season and is sure to be in the starting lineup until he finally suffers an inevitable flame out. Another nice thing about Rua is that he’s always low owned. Like, super low owned.
Justin Upton, OF: $3,000 – Is JUp heating up? Well, he had a multi-hit game on Sunday and a monster night on Monday with three hits, a home run, and three RBIs. For $3K, I’m willing to find out.
I’m Only Happy When It Rains
Everything looks mostly clear, but there is a chance of rain in Detroit.
Doing Lines In Vegas
Several stacks I like for Tuesday night include: Cubs, Orioles, Blue Jays, Nationals, and D’Backs. If you’re looking to use a lesser owned stack, try Miami or Seattle. Think outside the box and try the Tigers or Brewers. The Cubs and Kyle Hendricks are the biggest favorites over the night at -240 over Philadelphia.
