The title says it all gents and 4 ladies; on DraftKings K’s are king. If you’re rolling out starters looking to win $ on ratios alone then you ain’t winning at all. Well maybe you’re winning head to head’s against your Uncle Ruprecht, but he eats with a cork on his fork and has a patch on his eye. Therein lies today’s lesson, target the high K guys vs. the high K lineups. It just so happens we have two high K/9 guys going today against teams with 20%+ K percentages. Grand, I know. One of these strikeout studs just so happens to be Razzball favorite and Grey Novio Carlos Carrasco. Over the past two starts, C-Dub has been about as lucky as one could be. First taking a line drive off the cabeza, and then getting pulled from his last start due to tightness. Well it looks like Carrasco should be back on the mound again today against the Tigers. Don’t get me wrong, starting a pitcher vs Miggy and company is not for the faint of heart, but here’s my thinking. 1. There’s a pretty good chance his ownership levels are lower than usual due to his opponent, and 2. 14.29….That’s his K/9. Yes 14.29. If he can get into the 6th or 7th you’re looking at 10 K’s minimum. The price of $9,000 is the highest of the day but well worth it when you consider the potential upside.

Wait Ralph you promised us two high K rate pitchers with matchups vs 20%+ K percentage teams. Who’s the other guy? Hold your horses kemosabe and I’ll tell you. It’s none other than Mr. Blue Sky himself Lance Lynn. Why is Lance Lynn Mr. Blue Sky? No idea but it’s my story and I can say what I want. Well anyway Lance faces the Brewers, a team that K’s at a rate of 23.6%, and thus far on the young season Lynn is punching out batters at a rate of 10.38 per 9. Not bad right? Even better is the threat of the Brewers blowing up for a huge offensive day is on the unlikely side of not going to happen. How bad are the Brewers at scoring runs? Only the Phillies have less runs scored than the Brewers and I’m pretty sure they’ve been starting guys that died 4 years ago in the bottom half of their lineup. Lynn’s price tag checks in at $8,800, hardly the type of gap that’s going to prohibit you from filling your lineup with beefy bats.

Francisco Liriano, SP: $8,500 – So maybe I lied in my intro as there is in fact three starting pitchers going today with high K rates facing teams with 20% + strikeout percentages. The Pirates lefty is coming in hot with a K/9 of 11.50 and his price is also very appetizing checking in below $9K. Look at you bargain shopping. Hopefully this bargain turns out better than that angora sweater that gave you hives.

Chris Archer, SP: $8,900 – I heart you Chris, but today you’re no good for me. I’m sorry but I can’t roll you out against a lineup like the Blue Jays, they’re just too powerful. They only lead the league in homers, RBI’s, and runs. If you pass this challenge I will forever be indebted to you and will never say another bad word about you.

Miguel Montero, C: $3,300 – This is a pure BvP play y’all. Montero is 7/22 with 4 ding-dongs and 11 steaks off of Jason “not-so” Marquis. The only catch here is whether or not the Hat Maddon goes with Montero, Ross, or Castillo. Options, options, options.

Edwin Encarnacion, 1B: $4,300 – E5 is slowly recovering from a back injury that’s been at the root of his slow start. He slugged a couple of long balls against the O’s on Tuesday night, but has been quiet since. His price is discounted due to the matchup vs. Chris Archer. The BvP tells me he’s an all or nothing play vs Archer as he’s just 4/23 lifetime off the Rays ace. Here’s the catch: 3 of those 4 hits have been homers.

Brian Dozier, 2B/SS: $4,100 – Dozier is another top rated slugger off to a slow start, and his price on DK is discounted to reflect that. Lucky for Dozier and the struggling Twins lineup, regular BP pitcher Roenis Elias has been called up to make a spot start for the Mariners. Lifetime Dozier is 4/5 with a homer off the lefty.

Pedro Alvarez, 1B/3B: $3,700 – The powerful lefty hitting Alvarez has always struggled against southpaws his entire career, hitting them to the tune of .194. Lucky for Alvarez Jeremy Hellickson isn’t a lefty, he’s also not very good. A power hitter in Arizona, vs. a mediocre pitcher, this could only mean one thing. Watch out people in the hot tub.

Jed Lowrie, SS: $3,900 – So far this year Lowrie has been one of the top middle infidel options in fantasy, putting up a slash-line of .275/.383/.490. Jed is 2/2 with a homer and a walk lifetime off Drew Pomeranz. He’s also a nationally ranked chess player and a hell of a Cajun chef.

Jimmy Paredes, OF: $3,600 – Can you say En Fuego? Now you listen here and you listen good. You start this wizard until he has no magic left in his wand. Understood?

Gregory Polanco, OF: $3,900 – My wife, my children, my mother, ginger ale with a splash of cranberry juice. These are the only things I love more then Gregory Polanco. I’ve been lobbying hard to name my unborn son Gregory and my wife has no idea why. Hopefully she doesn’t figure out that the locket around my neck has his picture and not hers.

Matt Kemp, OF: $5,200 – Who’s Joe Wieland? Not sure but I think his brother was the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots. Either way you should be stacking Padres today with a matchup like this. Your stack should begin with Kemp and work out from there.

I’m Only Happy When It Rains

The only game that looks to be in any danger of weather issues is Colorado vs. San Fran. Just like with any game in Colorado lots of players will be stacking options from each team so keep your eyes open and your carrots peeled.

Doing Lines In Vegas

Stop me if you’ve heard this before but a game in Colorado has the highest O/U of the day at 10.  I’m shocked, I say.  SHOCKED.  Going back to my Archer love, Vegas might be making my head swerve.  They’ve giving him the -150 but it’s important to note, they also think the game goes over the 7.5.  It’s never perfect with you, Vegas, but thank you for your assistance.
