Razzball Nation!  Why don’t you have a seat?

Do you know why I’m here?  It’s because I’m about to recommend a Minor as your starting pitcher tonight for DraftKings.

JB, are you screen name MinorOwnsTheMarlins?  You typed “I see Giancarlo Stanton waving his wood all night at Minor offerings” did you not?  That’s taken out of context!!!

Our friends at DraftKings are back with another RAZZBALL EXCLUSIVE CONTEST where another lucky Razzballer will get a ticket into their huge $150K Walk-Off, where the top winner gets $50K.  Spots 2-30 win $5.00 so it’s like spending nothing!  The contest is limited to only 50 entrants so that’s a 60% chance of winning.  10 players have already signed up, so you gotta move fast!

Let’s take a look at last week’s picks:

Asdrubal Cabrera – 1-4 1 HR 2 RBI 1 R 1 BB 1 CS (16 pts)

Adam Lind – 0-4 (0 pts)

Carlos Gomez – 1-4 1 2B 1 RBI 1 R (9 pts)

Yu Darvish – 8.2 IP W 1 H 14 Ks (almost perfect! 51 pts)

Yoenis Cespedes – 1-4 1 HR 1 RBI 1 R (14 pts)

Hunter Pence – 2-4 (6 pts)

TOTAL – 96 pts

As Podcast host Nick Capozzi would say, “really solid week, eh?  My fellow Canadian was your only miss.”  Yea thanks a lot Nick…  The Darvish pick had me all giddy though.  I’m going to stick with a CI, MI, 2 OF, SP, UTIL as my picks and try to top last week (while also picking some lower-priced players), which I have a feeling will be near impossible to accomplish with that gem by Darvish.

Here’s who I like tonight in DraftKings:

SP – Mike Minor ($8,700) – A really solid debut for Minor last week, who went 7.1 innings only allowing 1 run, 5 hits, no walks and striking out 7 against the Cubs.  The Marlins are an absolutely terrible offense minus Giancarlo Stanton, and I think Minor will stay hot in this one pitching in spacious color-orgy Marlins Park.  He’s the best value at SP for me tonight.

CI – Adrian Gonzalez ($4,300) – Has multi-hit games in his last 4 and absolutely hitting the cover off the ball.  Gonzalez is 2-5 against opposing HodgePadre pitcher Eric Stults, who needs to go back and get his mask with Cher.  At a very reasonable price, I like A-Gon to go Gonzo in this one.

MI – Ian Desmond ($3,900) – After a rocky first series against the Marlins, Desmond has homers in two of his last three and is my pick for the best value at SS and in the middle infield positions.  He’s 1-3 against Gavin Floyd and Floyd, while improving to only 8 SBs allowed last year allowed 23 in 2011.  Desmond as a duel threat should garner some nice points.

OF1 – Jacoby Ellsbury ($5,000) – Has started off pretty hot this season, and is 2-5 with 2 solo shots off of opposing pitcher Jake Arrieta.  Ellsbury has also drawn two walks off him, which count for points as well.  He’s a little pricier, but worth the money for a bigger named OF tonight.

OF2 – Jeff Francoeur ($3,300) – People love to hate the Frenchy, but he’s quietly on a 6-game hit streak and has a hit in 7 of the first 8 Royals games.  He’s also 2-2 against Liam Hendriks who toes the rubber for the Twins tonight.  I always thought “toes the rubber” was a really funny phrase…

UTIL – Salvador Perez ($3,800) – Sticking with another Royal, Sally has gone 4-7 against Hendriks for 4 RBIs. I think this could be a solid game for the up-and-coming catcher and my pick for your backstop tonight.

Loving me some Mike Minor tonight. That was the no brainer for me. My second SP was a little more difficult. Not a lot of sexy matchups out there. Chad Billingsly is just scary, even against the Padres.

No love for J-Up? If that park wasn’t so friggin HUGE he wouldn’t hit another homer last night. He bombed one to deep center and it hit the top of the wall for a double. They need to bring those fences in. Fans come to see big flies, not long fly outs.

    • Shake N Bacon says:
      (link)

He “would’ve” hit another homer. not sure why I typed “wouldn’t”

@Shake N Bacon: Haha I gotcha… Yea tough to pick anyone in that park is my concern as well. Wouldn’t touch Billingsley with a ten foot pole haha. A lot of meh after Minor tonight for the price. Good luck!

        • Shake N Bacon says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: Gracias. yeah if Billingsly was the cheapeast pitcher on there, I probably wouldn’t pick him. If Ivan Nova was cheaper, I was going to consider him. He’s still like $5000 though, I think. First time doing something like this so we’ll see how it goes.

@Shake N Bacon: yea pitchers are the biggest scorers so they have higher prices. Just look at how many points Darvish got last week!

            • Shake N Bacon says:
              (link)

@JB Gilpin: Yeah I just noticed that. I had Lohse going as my cheap pitcher, hoping he would school the Cubs but the game got rained out. Oh well, probably for the best.

            • Shake N Bacon says:
              (link)

@JB Gilpin: Your picks did pretty well last night. I was stupid and went with Upton in Miami (instead of Ellsbury) and David Wright got me 0 points. But Desmond was money! Gattis was so cheap I couldn’t ignore him and he brought me to the promise land.

Thanks for the advice on the pitchers. I paid the big bucks for Minor and Zimmerman and it worked out.

                (link)

@Shake N Bacon: Thanks man! Yea I think Adrian Gonzalez was my only bust with only a single. Huge games from everyone else it was another solid week! Yea you gotta spend big on the pitchers, that’s where the big points are.

                  (link)

@JB Gilpin: I’m hooked now. Not too happy about my lineup tonight though. F-Her and Greinke are so expensive…but I feel like you gotta go with them. My offense looks like a mix of 2005 all stars and career quad A guys. Ouch.

                  Any tips for tonight?

                  • JB Gilpin

                    (link)

@Shake N Bacon: Haha sweet, yea it’s fun isn’t it! I like your choice of the premiere pitchers. Adam Dunn is a guy I like, he’s only 3800 I think and a power lefty against Dan Haren that either gets outs or gives up HRs. Plus Dunn will wanna give his ex-team a show. Although he might be one of your 2005 all stars haha.

                    • Shake N Bacon says:
                      (link)

@JB Gilpin: Yeah, either Adam Dunn or Travis Hafner for $3800. Both are 2005 All stars probably. I like that Dunn pick. I just hope he plays tonight, or Hafner will be in my lineup!

Hey Buddy, Roy Halladay is is already or should I say finally off the can’t cut list.. What do you think about picking up Barry Zito for him? He had A great playoff and world series and’s continueing this year.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Frank Lynch: I stick with Halladay and hopes he rights the ship. Zito is someone I don’t trust, not that I trust Halladay, but I don’t cut him for Zito

Hey Grey, I sent you my picks before and Sky said for me to change Chen for Jim Henderson…I know it’s only been 3 days in my league but before that I haven’t seen a great run. Can you give me advise ion something that you might do to your pitching squad if it were yours? I’ve been getting mad negative numbers.. It especially pisses me of when in the 6th round my computer sighned off and automaticlly picked Starlin Castro instead of Cliff Lee… I know I wrote allot and my bad but please help me? BTW Ilove your blogs there funny as ISH!!! I loved the Romain lettuce having 2 jobs was awesome

  6. Frank Lynch says:

Hey whats happening!! Do you think I should drop Roy Halladay for Barry Zito or Phil Hughes?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Frank Lynch: I would still hold onto Halladay. Yea Henderson needs to be owned as the closer, I think he can be a 3.00 ERA 9 K/9 guy, but he’s still got me nervous as a Brewers fan. our bullpen is a disaster

  7. Frank Lynch says:

    thanks brotha!!!

  8. Frank Lynch says:

Do you think AJ Griffen is A better pickup then Hughes?

    • Frank Lynch says:
      (link)

or maybe worth a pickup at all even if its for a batter?

      • Frank Lynch says:
        (link)

like mark reynolds or I saw another pitcher too… Griffen and Jeremy Guthrie?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Frank Lynch: I like Griffin for Hughes. I think Griffin is better than Guthrie too.
