Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

I don’t mean to just go on and on about my fake teams or how well I’ve been doing lately, but damn, your humble-but-nonetheless-handsome Guru is on fire. The turban is smokin’! Last night I nearly doubled my bankroll and won a little side wager in which our resident Razzball Radio host must wear a T-shirt of my choice on Thursday’s show. That’s almost as satisfying as cash. Almost.  With a few more Benjamin’s we’ll be one step closer to a winter of fun in the sun with enough left over for bail and a possible liver transplant. Thanks, Obamacare!

Have you been partaking in the DraftKings fun? Why not, don’t like money?! Get out of here, hippie! Your friendly Razzaholics even provide you with some of the best tools in the biz: Stream-o-Nator, Hitter-Tron and the mighty DFSbot. Use them and buy us a round later, you know, after the liver has healed up.

DraftKings has eight games on the early slate, seven games on the evening schedule and three late games tonight. There are some high over/unders for KC/DET, MIN/BOS and MIL/ARI that we’ll be targeting today.

Let’s get to it and you could be joining me for sunshine, umbrella drinks and thong watching come December. Here be some of the Guru’s picks for Wednesday, June 18th contests on DraftKings for 2014 Fantasy Baseball.

Early Bird

Lance Lynn, SP: $8,500 – Sure Chris Sale is throwing in one of the early games, but he’s pricey and we need room for bats. Lynn makes for a great value play this afternoon. Lynn is coming off an eight inning, two-hit shutout and gets a Mets team that is sixth in the league in strikeouts.

David Ortiz, 1B: $4,900- The big bats of the day belong to the first baseman – Miguel Cabrera, Jose Abreu and Chris Davis. I expect they’ll all have good days, but Big Papi is my pick for Dong of the Day. Ortiz hasn’t hit a homer in a week, but has been close. A warm day at Fenway with Kyle Gibson on the mound should cure the drought.

Rougned Odor, 2B: $2,900 – ODOR! went 2-for-4 with a homer, a triple, two rins and three RBI Tuesday against the A’s. This kid’s legit (and barely legal four female cougar readers), but makes a great play tonight vs. Sonny Gray who has a 6.35 ERA this month.

Happy Hour

Felix Hernandez, SP: $12,500, Clayton Kershaw, SP: $12,300 – I don’t think we have to dig too deep into the numbers to know this: Kersh and King Felix are pretty, pretty, pretty good at baseball. You’ll have to pay up, but both are in great spots for huge games.

Ryan Braun, OF: $5,600 – I was hoping Braun would get D-Backs starter Wade Miley yesterday, but Miley got scared and was scratched. Guess which impotent left-hander that has allowed 1.54 HR/9 this year is pitching tonight?  Someone named “Made Wiley.” And he’s going to try and throw right-handed. You’re not fooling anyone, Wade. Stack the Brew Crew.

Jonathan Lucroy, C: $4,700 – I’m paying up tonight for Lucroy after his double-dong night – including a grand slam – at Chase Field Tuesday. Lucroy gets an even better match up tonight as he crushes lefties to the tune of a .943 OPS this year.

Late Night Snack

Andrew Cashner, SP: $7,700 – Sure, I’ll probably own Hernandez who Cash is facing late (and I don’t usually take two pitchers facing each other), but it’s a great play at PETCO against a Mariners team that is top 10 in K’s this season.

Khris Davis, OF: $4,100 –  The other Khris Davis and his .492 wOBA against southpaws will be on all my teams at this price. I’m going to pass Khris with a K Davis a note in gym class: Do you want to be on my fake baseball team? Yes or No. Circle one.

Scooter Gennett, SS: $3,500 – Have I mentioned I kinda like like the Brewers bats tonight? The year of the Scooter continues as he’s averaging 15+ FPTS over his last five games. I’ll keep playing him and winning $$$ until the price goes up. Your move, DraftKings.

I’m Only Happy When It Rains

Some scattered showers in Detroit and a 45% chance of drive-by Molotov cocktail bombings, but things should be ok in the Motor City. Everywhere else it’s unicorns and rainbows.

Doing Lines In Vegas

The high scoring game of the day should be MIL/ARI. The sharks in Vegas have the over/under at 9. I say it goes over.

Zeppelin III an underrated Zep album me thinks.

Underrated perhaps. But still the least exciting in the Zep catalogue.

It’s fairly even, but I prefer Scooter. If it’s just steals you want it’s E-Cab.

  4. Does Made Wiley stick in the rotation or is this just a spot start..hehe

Haven’t seen the lineup yet. Jordy Mercer could be a cheaper option or pay a little more for Chris Owings. Jose Reyes would be my top SS if you want to pay up and Billy Hamilton is a a good play tonight or put him in the outfield.

Big Jam or Cram question for you: Jake Arrieta in a 12 team roto league? Guy’s looked awesome of late and I thought either JB or you would have covered his potential (or lackthereof) already unless I missed it.

Guru! Would love your sage wisdom on a few quick hits for my 10 team H2H OBP/OPS league:

Time to drop/bench Rosario for the Norrisaurus? Rosario is really killing me in OBP/OPS (and I already have Dee at SS getting a free pass at that).

    Drop Qualls for Betances?

    Panda or Seager ROS?

    Thanks!

    • The Guru

      The Guru says:
      (link)

I’d stay with Rosario. He should heat up at home later this week. I do like Norris, but think the regression faeries are coming for him. Hold Qualls. Panda.

      • Pablo says:
        (link)

@The Guru: Thanks! Perhaps the faeries, like me, will be too distracted by his glorious beard to care. Something tells me that if Rosario had that thing, I wouldn’t even be thinking about benching him…

  9. JAL says:
    (link)

Guru, what the hell is up with my boy J. Lowrie?! He really killed it for me last year but has now turned into a damn pumpkin…Any thoughts? Any hope? That lineup is too good for him to 0-4 every day. Many thanks!

    • The Guru

      The Guru says:
      (link)

I hear you on Lowrie. In a 12-team league, I’d hold if there is nothing better on the wire. As I Red Sox fan I’ve never been a fan of Lowrie. 1. He can’t stay health. 2. He’s very streaky. 3. I think last season was more of the ceiling of what you’re going to get from him if you look at his career averages.

      • JAL says:
        (link)

@The Guru: Agreed – but we are talking about a guy who had 15 homers and 45 2Bs in addition to the .290 AVG. Ceiling, for sure, but what we are seeing now is extremely troubling. I’m east coast and don’t see many of his ABs and was just wondering if you are seeing something I don’t know about. In my 12-team all that is out there is a recent E Cab – I’m good on SB, need homers/avg. – going to unfortunately sit tight for now, I think. Thanks for reply.

        • The Guru

          The Guru says:
          (link)

Yes, prob hold and hopes he turns it around. His BABIP is very low so there’s been some bad luck involved too.

          • ram says:
            (link)

@The Guru: Lowrie is killing me this year so badly that Bonifacio was getting most ABs at 2B. Now it is between DanSantana and Lowrie at 2B. I think I need to see a HR from him before I ever consider starting Lowrie. Watched most of Twins series v Sox and Santana is insanely fast.

            • The Guru

              The Guru says:

Santana is a nice little player, let’s hope Lowrie turns it around. Middle infield very thin this year.

espn has ian kennedy at the 28th SP ROS over guys like sonny, alex cobb, gio, cashner, and latos.

would you agree with any or all of these? i dont think i do, just wanted to hear another opinion. thanks!

    • The Guru

      The Guru says:
      (link)

I think I agree here. He’s looked very good and the NL + ballpark factor really favor him. I’d put Cobb second. When looking to predict future performance I look at a pitchers FIP and xFIP. Kennedy’s FIP is 3.08 and xFIP is 3.13. Anything below 3.25 is damn good so I say he stays a solid arm – unless he gets traded to hitters park or the AL.

  11. Endershadow says:

    Would you send Cespedes/Matt Adams/Harang for Fister/Cliff Lee/Ryan Howard?

I platoon at 1B and have some OF depth. thanks

@Endershadow: OBP and SLG instead of AVG btw

      • The Guru

No thanks on the dealio. I prefer bats to arms – especially one like Cespedes.

    thx

    • The Guru

      The Guru says:

Do you need pitching? In a league that shallow you should be able to find arms on the wire.

  14. JoeG414 says:

I have Wong and Rutledge “sharing” 2b right now, but is Owings a better play? Mixed daily 6×6 roto.

    • The Guru

      The Guru says:

      I’d rather have Owings.

  15. Abdoozy says:

    Yo Guru,

Pick any 3 in a QS 12 teamer redraft ROS:
    Arrieta, Heaney, Walker, Chavez

Or would you drop Belisario (that ERA gives me headaches) and keep all 4, if you had CodyAllen and Rodney for RP? It’s nice to have 3 closers but does cut into my SP flexibility.

    • The Guru

      The Guru says:
      (link)

Not sure what Heaney is going to give you. If you’re up in saves I’d keep all four, but for me Arrieta is the best of the bunch. Is this a dynasty league?

      • Abdoozy says:
        (link)

@The Guru: nope, just a H2K weekly redraft. You like Walker over Heaney I take it?

        • The Guru

          The Guru says:
          (link)

I need to see Heaney vs. big boy hitters.

Yo gu 10 team h2h redraft my jones and heaney for his rios and scherzer. Close right?

    • The Guru

      The Guru says:
      (link)

      I’d want Rios/Scherzer

  17. Allan says:
    (link)

Freaking Hanram blew the perfecto for Kershaw. He should have to clean Kershaw’s jock for the rest of the season…by hand. On another note would you drop Segura for any of the following: Daniel Murphy, Anthony Rendon, or Elvis Andrus. Thanks Guru.

    • The Guru

      The Guru says:
      (link)

I agree. If HanRam wasn’t healty enough to finish the game why the hell did he start it?

Prefer Elvis over the other guys ROS.

  18. Zar says:
    (link)

    Hey guru,

The SoN likes Anibal Sanchez tomorrow versus Kansas City…but Kansas City destroyed both Verlander and Scherzer in games 1 and 2 and also defeated Smyly today….I’m a little hesitant in starting him. Do you think he’ll be the stopper tomorrow or is Kansas City too hot right now? ><

    • The Guru

      The Guru says:
      (link)

I can’t argue with SON. The Royals have been hot, but they’re not really going to sweep the Tigers are they? I’m rolling Sanchez out there.
