Dexter Fowler had a .394 OBP in almost 1300 minor league at-bats. In his first big league season, he has a .371 OBP (through whenever I wrote this). I’m focusing on OBP because you’d like to have your speedsters on base… *cough* Taveras *cough* Is Fowler capable of 50+ steals? I suppose, but I wouldn’t count on that. No Sir Ree Bob. (BTW, I like the Urban Dictionary examples for No Sir Ree Bob. I don’t remember that conversation happening between the Iraqi Information Minister and George W. Bush, but I don’t pay too much attention to politics.) I’d optimistically predict 35+ steals, 10+ homers and a .285 average. Shane Victorino called, he wants his stats back, but Andrew McCutchen picked up the phone to say Dexter was in the shower. I have no idea what’s going on there. Now, Victorino is a top twenty outfielder, so that’s Fowler’s upside. For the price you can probably keep Dexter, it makes him well worth the risk. I’m not saying keep him over Miguel Cabrera. Please, we’re talking within reason. Anyway, here’s some more fantasy baseball keepers for 2010:
Kendry Morales – This year he’s been nearly as valuable as Mark Teixeira. Zoinks!
Eric Young Jr. – We started this sucker with a Rockie and, Harang nabbit, we’re gonna finish it with one. So Junior’s not really getting any playing time right now, but this isn’t about this year, is it? Rhetorical! 2010 should be Young’s year to shine and when he shines he’ll be doing it with 40+ steals. For a guy that you can probably keep on the super cheap in deep leagues, that’s a lovely thing. Not a Lovey thing, that’s J.P. Howell’s Mom.

Who is this Kendry Morales you speak of? I dropped an under-achiever with a name like that in early June. Couldn’t possibly be the same guy.
@ peter: he was player of the month last month, for the love!
Big ups (am I allowed to say that around here?) on the Arroyo recommendation. Even with only a few starts left, he was too hard to pass up.
Yep. Drafted Aaron Hill and Kendry Morales in my keeper league in the 23rd and 24th round. Dropped them in the second week for pitchers when they started kinda slow. Could have kept them both as 22nd and 23rd round picks for the life of my keeper league. I also drafted Reyes in the 1st and Webb in the 4th…
Amazingly enough… I still won the regular season, made the H2H finals and look to bank. Not without the tremendous help of Grey and Crew! Ridin the Mini-Donkey to cash money!
When I win… Grey’s got a daiquiri with his name on it in the mail (not literally).
Grey, would you say Garland tomorrow @ PIT (TBD) is pretty much a nice sure safe W.
Looking to pad my era and wins during this 2 week champ run. He also gets SD next week.
@peter: Hehe
@Steve: You can say anything, Steve. Glad it worked out.
@kwak: Nice!
@Antrim Warriors: Sure, he’s pretty solid for a Win.
the A ‘s are 14 – 7 in september .
if you insist on throwing SP ‘s against them , make sure your whip can handle it , as well .
@big o: Yeah, I’ve been noticing they’re hitting the ball well this month. Them and Blalock.
@Grey: ow do you like Scherzer v SD and Weaver v As for Friday?
Got five starts left, with the Wolfman going @Pirates on Saturday.
@Steve: I’d start Scherzer.
@Steve: How.
I’m not a Cockney.
my theory is that the air quality in the bay area tends to be less damaging on the eyes , once september rolls around .
that , and most of the muggers and thugs have gone back to hanging around the school-yards , leaving the players more relaxed at the plate and less anxious about getting in and out of the stadium alive .
@big o: Hmm… Pretty interesting theory.
@Grey: If memory serves, Blalock did tihs last year too. He’s Mr September. Worth a pick-up?
@Steve: He is worth a grab.
Grey, do you know any good fantasy hockey websites ?
@SamYo: I don’t, sorry.
Drop Theriot for Furcal?
@GTS: Yup
@GTS: @Grey: Furcal’s 2-2 with a run scored so far tonight. Glad to see him picking up where he left off when he got injured… on May 5, 2008.
@peter: Hehe
Grey, haggling over my final keeper for next year. Right now, I’m getting great value with Greinke, Wainwright, Victorino, and Adam Lind. Do you think I’d be better suited with Choo or Kershaw? I can see the upside for both players.
@Pops: Hmm… Not an easy one. I could see a case made for either. I’d go with Kershaw as long as he doesn’t exceed too many innings in the playoffs, which he shouldn’t.
Who are some players besides Victorino that you would consider to have the same approximate value as Fowler for 2010?
@John: The same value in what way? That could hit 10 homers and steals 35 bases? Andrew McCutchen’s one.
EDIT: Word.
@Grey: Where does Adam Jones fall in the keeper conundrum? Sorry, I’ve been out of the loop but I’m thinkin he’s got to be one for 6 bucks right?
Garland vs Pit
Tejeda vs Min
Decent pickups for h2h no?
start leblanc @ Ari or West vs. NYM?
How does Fowler fit in with other similar power/speed players such as CarGo, Rios, Adam Jones, Rasmus, Maybin, etc.? Is that group all pretty close? How would you rank them as keepers?
@BigFatHippo: Yeah, for 6 duckets I’d hold him.
@cake_eater: Yeah, they’re decent.
@Martin: I would on both.
@John: Jones is a 25/15 guy, Rios is a 20/20 guy, CarGo is a close to Victorino but more risk, Rasmus is a 20/15 guy with risk and Maybin is a 10/30 guy with a lot of risk. So Jones, Rios, CarGo, Rasmus then Maybin, but guys could move up or down that list depending if you’re taking a lot of risk with your other options.
@Grey:
does chris young deserve to be included in the victorino-type outfielder conversation , considering his september showing ,
and that fact that he wa given up for dead , early on this season ?
@big o: I guess, but wasn’t he given up for dead last year too?
@Grey:
allow me to say :
granderson is a big pile of little shit .
maybe he is better than a whole lot of other guys , but my expectations were that he would be better than he’s showed me this year .
i am hurt .
as far as i am concerned , we’re through .
more likely to snag a win tomorrow: Tejeda or Correia?
@Grey:
RCL Original Recipe becoming a two horse race top 4 positions – 86, 86, 79, and 77.5
@penpen: Correia
@BSA: Nice, are you in the top two?
@Grey:
Nah, I can’t budge off my 79 points.
A lot of moves not making a difference.
The top two are Bob’s Schmohawks and Doc.
Iowa and I are battling for third.
@Grey: @BSA: Looks like I’m doomed to finish 5th in very league this year.
At best.
@Steve: I tell you I never thought I would be where I am and it has been a lot of fun with this group.
Thanks for putting this year’s league together.
@Steve: Very?
You mean every.
@BSA: Nothing to it.
Don’t know about you, but in the unlikely event of there being no RCL as such next year, I’d still be keen to keep a league going with the group we have.
Yay! Fernando Rodney got me a key save. Boo! Fernando Rodney got me an 18 ERA to do it.
@Steve: Whatever it takes – it looks like we have at least 11 managers. Just need emails going into the offseason.
Alright I have to turn in – until next time!
Franklin Morales came in to work the 7th inning, tonight. He didn’t record an out while walking two and giving up a hit. Looks like we’ve seen the end of his run at regular save opps for Colorado.
As an aside, I knew something like this (him choking and losing the closer’s role) would happen as soon as Jim Tracy came out and said that Morales’ future is as a closer.
Gregerson staying in for the save – I like this.
Just a one off no doubt, but a save’s a save…
Worth dropping CarGo?
I’m thinking I’ve got very little room for a speed guy with a tweaked hammy
Goddamn A’s…
Again.
Oh, and a suggestion for the Razzball lexicon, from my girlfriend – chumpionship: a bronze medal game, or any kind of consolation competition. Y’know, like the one I’m playing for now.
@BSA: Ahh…
@knighttown: Hehe
@Steve: Of course there’ll be a RCL. That save was so huge.
@peter: Had to happen sooner or later with Morales.
@penpen: Sure
@Lines: Nice!
@Lines: I like that a lot. I like it even more than the two chumpionships I’m playing for, now.
The Fabulous Baker Boy!
Even I couldn’t cool him off.
psst.
alex gordon will go yard against pavano , tomorrow .
don’t tell anyone . it’s a secret .
@Grey:
so i have to ask yourself , do you feel lucky ??
pick me a closer to sit , for tomorrow only :
nunez , soria , fuentes , or , hoffman .
@big o: Hoffman
@Grey:
sorry i didn’t get back to you sooner , to thank you for confirming hoffman .
have spent the intervening time , finally deciding to bench upton tomorow vs correia .
in my h2h 2 week play-off , am ahead by 2 hrs , and down by 4 runs .
went with brian roberts @ 2nd base , and coghlan @ of .
hate sitting upton , but obp category came into consderation .
i realize roberts has a weak track record vs fausto , but maybe he’ll take a walk , or two .
am probably gonna regret over-thinking this , but de la rosa and danks have put me in such a hole , that my only recourse in this 7×7 is to win every offensive category and saves .
it hasn’t help me much that , before today , my team was batting .235
I’m benching wright for EE. Fricking wright, so disappointing….
Yet i’m still smashing faces in the finals…
Weiters missed the golden sombrero, just barely… i was at the tribe game, he looked horrible swinging. Almost as bad as LaPorta! Not even watching the ball come in, now i know Carmona and Hernandez are all stars? (sarcasm) but seriously, young kids, need to learn patience, when it comes they’ll be studs, but they’ve got some work to do….
go indians, way to not lose 12 in a row, i “sorta” witnessed history NOT get made tonight….
Thanks Grey for mentioning Morales as a sleeper in the preseason(you were bang on). I got Morales in both my keeper leagues(very cheap in my auction salary league).
@Cabby: Cool, glad it worked out.
