@Charles, in a recent 1-catcher mock on yahoo, I did take Jesus in the 15th, but also took Doumit as my 23rd pick since he will start the year as UTIL.

I’ve never been a Mauer fan. I’m not against him in the 11th, but with my draft strategy, I’m most likely picking up pitchers heavily during that part of a draft in a standard league and would miss him. I also really like Wilson Ramos this year, a guy going at round 18 according to mockdraftcentral. Not even a full year of at-bats and he had 15 HRs last year. Might give you a Miguel Montero line for half the price.

Catcher is very deep this year, especially in 1-catcher leagues. If you have other needs to address when guys like Montero (either one) or Mauer come up, I’d take care of those first; there are a lot of good catchers that will be on the waiver in a standard 1-catcher league this year so taking a top tier one isn’t necessary in my opinion.

I’m in a fairly standard 12-team 1-catcher league. I’m trying to gauge your interest at various draft points. And it’s obviously difficult to answer, but which would be your preference:

Pick #121 (1st in round 11): Mauer, Posey, Avila, Miguel Montero
Pick #169 (1st in round 15): Jesus Montero
Pick #241 (1st in round 21): Perez, Doumit, Martin, etc.

I’m in a 10-team keeper league. Up to to 3 keepers. Candidates are: Hosmer, Lawrie (the good one), Gardner, Bumgardner, Beachy, and Grienke. I lose 6th round pick for Grienke; any of the rest would cost a double-digit round pick. Thoughts?

Hundley is a decent catcher but is expendable for a team that has a youth movement on its hands. Grandal was higher than Devin in some circles. I like Rosario this year but that’s for another post (hint hint)

My only hesitations with Hundley are the home park and Yasmani Grandal. I do believe he is underrated this year, though, considering where a guy like Yadier is going in drafts.

I agree with you 100%. I even started to lose interest a little and your Dali tangent pulled me back in. Well done! I seem to be drafting from the Ramos/Soto/Martin/Perez grouping this year, unless Wieters, either Montero, or Mauer fall far enough. In two catcher leagues, I think Hundley could be a sneaky grab in the last round.
