0Let’s go over the Danny Espinosa positives first, shall we? A) In Triple-A, he had 18 homers and 20 steals. B) At MI, you need another positive after A? C) B was already forced and you want a C? D) Hmm… You need another positive, huh? Umm… How about D. Espinosa anagrams to Adios ESPN? Okay, the negative is the 94 Ks in 99 games at Triple-A. That sounds like a recipe for a .230 average over the course of the season. I’d preach some caution if this were April, but he’s currently hitting in the major leagues and is worth a flier to see if he can stay hot. In keepers, I’d grab him for a buck because he’ll have solid position eligibility next year and has good pop and speed. And, as most of you know who have read this site longer than a second, I don’t mind average killers. Anyway, here’s some more players to buy or sell this week in fantasy baseball:
BUY
Juan Gutierrez – It’s not playing with fire to get saves from Gutierrez. Like playing with dynamite.
Koji Uehara – If you need saves, here ya go. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if Koji gives you indigestion, even if Chef Roy Choi disagrees.
Matt Thornton – Could’ve listed Putz or Sale here, but I think Thornton’s the first guy to get saves in Jenks’ stead, assuming MT can stay healthy and BJ can stay, um, unhealthy.
Clay Hensley – The Marlins are saying Nunez will reclaim the closer job, but he ain’t got it now, does he? Rhetorical!
Ryan Madson – SAGNOF!
Ryan Perry – Just went over my Ryan Perry fantasy.
Jhoulys Chacin – You really need to put aside your past prejudices about Rockie pitchers. This is no longer the days of Mike Hampton, who hit better than he pitched.
Jorge de la Rosa – Hasn’t thrown a turd since his second start back from the DL. And that’s the truth, Ruth!
Cory Luebke – I wouldn’t risk him in an away game unless you really need to gamble, but I’d start him in home games. You know how I do.
Brian Duensing – Just went over my Duensing fantasy. It involved silk ribbons and hot wax. Wait, no it didn’t. Wait II, did it?
Ivan Nova – Surprising that he’s not owned everywhere since he’s a Yankee. Guess people realize he could roofie you at any time and render your naughty bits unusable.
Logan Morrison – I’m like a little kid in a candy store with this guy. That’s right, I have cavities thanks to Morrison. And his OBP makes me ride around on my mop pony screaming yee-haw!
Ike Davis – Member when he was this crazy hot commodity to own back in April? Yeah, I don’t either, but it’s nice to remember things differently in retrospect. Anyhoo! Davis is hitting well over the last week or so.
David Murphy – I’m admittedly a fan of this schmohawk, but you do need to platoon him in and out depending on whether or not he’s facing a lefty.
Michael Brantley – Had five steals and a .291 average in August. More of the same so far in September.
Eric Young Jr. – I really don’t want to have to keep telling you to grab the same guys, but his ownership numbers at ESPN have actually gone down in the last week. He has 15 steals in 35 games. That’s 140 steals in 162 games, give or take 60-something.
SELL
Justin Morneau – Sounding a lot like he’s not returning until the last week of the season and even then he won’t be 100%, he’ll be gearing up for the playoffs. I know, sucks. I don’t know why they can’t send him out there with The Great Gazoo’s helmet either.
Gordon Beckham – He’s nursing from the injury bug teet and he wasn’t really doing much even when he was healthy. In honor of our fantasy football site, punt!
Andres Torres – That thud you just heard was Torres falling back to earth.
Josh Johnson – I’m 99% sure he’s not pitching again this year. I’m 100% sure that he’s only going to get another two starts even if he does. You can find someone to replace him in the last few weeks.
Derek Jeter – Okay, so you drafted Jeter just so you could tell your girlfriend that you drafted him so she would then have sex with you. You didn’t expect it to blow up in your face so bad though. The drafting of Jeter, not the other half of the equation. Captain Jeets or Pasta Diving Jeter or whatever you want to call him is hitting .237 vs. righties. That’s the new blech.
Time to drop Granderson for Logan Morrison?
Hey, Senor. We have to lock in players till the end of the season. Which of these guys would name as your DH: Ryan Rayburn, Alfonso Soriano, David Ortiz, Danny Espinosa, Felix Pie, Derek Lee, Dan Uggla. Also, please: Who do you like at SS for the rest of the year: Alex Gonzalez or Furcal?

I know you say that you don’t think JJ will pitch again this season (and I firmly believe that as well), but have you ready or seen anything that says anything more in depth? The only stuff I’ve read is on Yahoo and still says that things are up in the air. My playoff hopes depend on it – got my fingers crossed that they at least DL him so I can pick someone up rather than leave the dead body on my roster in a keeper…

Ugh, love that I have three SELLS on my team as the first week of H2H playoffs wrap up- Johnson, Beckham and Torres. Can’t drop Beckham or Johnson because it’s a keeper league.
Between those three, Cliff Lee being banged up and Mark Reynolds not even hitting his weight this week, looks like it might be a hasty exit in my playoffs.
Here’s hoping Votto and CarGo keep carrying me through the weekend.

While waiting for the games to begin and prepare to bite my nails to a whole new low I noticed the name Tasteless Garbage and my mind wandered to a new friend who owns Worship Skateboards.
They created a line of clothing called ‘Hot Garbage’ as a spoof on people who buy Louis Vuitton. They used the same design layout but rather than the mini Louis symbols they use the skateboard logo with a hot garbage logo. The idea that the expensive line ain’t nothin but hot garbage made popular by the demand. So as they travel to sell they began that people were reaching in their Louis V bags and dishin’ out the $20 for a Hot Garbage T. Talk about getting burned and paying for it.
Anyways just made me chuckle – see what I mean and go look ‘em up as I don’t want to turn this into a “check out what my friends are selling”

I’m considering benching the rest of my starters and shooting for an era/whip win. starters i can possibly play are blackburn, latos and zimmermann. meanwhile, my opponent has ubaldo, scherzer, haren and oswalt (plus possible streamers). as such, wins and k’s are almost certainly lost.

Steals aren’t a dire necessity, but I still kind of need them since I depended on Andrus for them (though he hasn’t done well for me there for about 2 freaking months).
And would you prefer Utley, Delmon Young, or EY at a util spot. I’ll be honest here and say I do need steals because the dudes with the bye week are loaded with guys like Pierre, Bourne, and Gardner. However I’d have to justify dropping either Young or Bronson Arroyo.
My dilemma is that Young and Utley are just now showing faint signs of life but I can’t wait it out with them because I go into semis next week. It’s an extremely shallow 12 teamer, so I don’t think Young (or Arroyo) gets picked up either way.
Dammit if only EY had SS eligibility I’d be jumping up and down screaming YESS!!
And finally to round it out, who do you prefer at catcher, Carlos Ruiz or Pierzynski?

Dood hasn’t homered in a month. Hamilton – now it says chiropractor today and CT scan “sometime in the next few days.” Also, according to himself his throwing sesh Tuesday was “counterproductive.”
Tracy McGrady did this to me one year in fantasy hoops, dominated all year then sat out some/all of my H2H playoffs and cost me!!

I picked up Morrison, but I’m not sure if he’s the right medication for my team. HGH would be the right medication, I suppose. Anyhoo, I would have to get crazy hot to make up any ground in average, and my team has been more inclined to lean towards tepid all year. I probably have more to gain in runs, SBs, RBIs and HRs. Morrison could help in runs, but he hasn’t done much (if anything) in the other 3 categories. Would you rather have Papi, Markakis, Walker, Brantley or even Branyan if avg didn’t matter? Position doesn’t matter either because I can play the guy in question at Util.

I’m thinking of dropping Rollins in a keeper league. I won’t be keeping him with his current contract, but someone else could sign him as a FA and keep him next year for 12 bucks. Should I just cut him and let him be someone else’s headache if they choose to grab him?
I’d be dropping him for someone who can hopefully make it through a week in one piece.

OK. I need to add Brett Gardner to my injury list. Though he says he “should be fine,” he’s going for an MRI on his wrist tomorrow. He joins Bruce, JUpton and Rollins as day-to-day guys on my team. Bruce might play Tues, but they say he won’t play every day. Rollins? Who knows. I need to play one of those guys. Want to hazard a guess as to which guy might be most productive next week (we have weekly lineups). Thanks.

*** Kyle Drabek called up. He’ll pitch on Wednesday. He’ll make three starts total, and will be part of a 6-man rotation till the end of the season. This also means fewer starts for the other Toronto guys (Marcum, Cecil, Romero).
@DrEasy: I must add that he’ll likely face Baltimore and Seattle for his first two starts, so I’m buying.

Yeah first Sunday in the football season. I play FFB casually, but I’m in one money league with some guys that I write with. I haven’t played Madden since ’07, so I drafted the all ’07 team. I also looked for as many misfits as possible, drafting Vince Young, Ochocinco and Ricky Williams in an effort to recreate The Longest Yard. So far so good.

Leyland’s thinking next year and I don’t see Valverde pitching much from here on out.
