In my Dynasty league we keep 25 out of 42 players. Instead of naming all my keepers…I will just name my keepers with less than one year experience. So Grey my question is…would you keep Straily, Julio Teheran, or Devon Mesoraco instead of any of these guys? Jarrod Parker, Billy Hamilton, Jedd Gyorko, Delino DeShields, Shelby Miller, Anthony Rendon, and Leonys Martin.

If you’re blanching it, I find 3 to 3 and a half minutes is about right. Grilling it on the BBQ is nice too.

@Steve, Exactly. It’s not menacing in the slightest and there’s no way you could use it as a bat. I always seem to overcook asparagus, but I don’t think that cooking it properly would render it able to compete with ash or maple.

Plus it makes me think that the bathrooms at their stadium must smell especially terrible…

He’s only 26 years old, he can easily steal 10+ bases and hit 25+ homers…. Even if he “only” gets 23 homers and 6 steals again, he’s easily more valuable than Victorino and LoMo…Him and Jennings are close…

@Grey, I’m pretty sure you think better of Rasmus than most other fantasy baseball guys, and I can understand why many are down on him: low batting average and the fact that he stopped stealing bases. 2010 looks a bit like the outlier. I bought into him last year, loved his first half and then soured on him a lot with how terrible he was down the stretch.

What reasons do you like him for ’13? What line are you expecting?

@Grey, That’s a great marketing idea. Crazy Hot Dog Vendor should battle Stevedore Steve for the ridiculous minor league character championship. It might take a while, considering that their weapons would be hot dogs and asparagus… though I suppose Crazy Hot Dog Vendor’s ostrich could be pretty vicious.

Grey, you’ve already previewed my 4 rookie keepers (Jackson, Olt, Skaggs, Straily) so you rock. Good to have some perspective. Not a great crop but since I’m not counting on any of those 4 in any way, if someone steps up and contributes it’ll be gravy.

Which of those 4 turns into the best long-term keeper, though? Olt once he has a starting job somewhere?

@royce!, Hahaha… Yeah… Straily’s got a pretty solid shot of making the rotation, just shouldn’t expect the world… Chekhov’s gun was my first allusion to Breaking Bad, don’t Google anything in this post and “plus Breaking Bad”… Not really major plot points though either… How about this for usage “We’re going on a camping trip and we made a list… Beans? McCarthy is leaving and Griffin could be the one to implode instead/worse (league seemed to be figuring him out toward the end). Tyson Ross leaving town for Andrew Werner is probably a push. I like Straily’s chances of starting in the rotation and with that home park, he can be adequate. Depth of the league probably determines whether “adequate” is acceptable.

Yeah, seems like Colon is the big question mark here. I wonder how long of a leash the A’s will give him. There’s a decent chance that he won’t pitch anywhere near as well without his drugs, but the A’s are sinking 3 mil into him, which for them is like 90% of their team salaries.

But on to more important things. I’m gonna try to use “Chekhov’s gun” in a sentence, just to make sure I understand it right: “After watching season two of Lost, I wanted to shoot JJ Abrams with Chekhov’s gun.”

Straily was no surprise in terms of his mid level heat to the A’s when they brought him up… They knew for sure – and the fans had been informed as well as to – what to expect.

It was all the writers and touts who rely on stats only that were suprised by his stuff.

He has very good control with a multi pitch arsenal. He should do fine.

Yes, he is not the staff stud some painted him to be. But, he could have some good years ahead of him.

Wonder, what the A’s will do with him? Trade him? Don’t think so. They have striped the shelves in their farm system of SPs bare.

There is always that offer that can’t be refused though.

Expect at some niggling injuries (at least) from one or two of last year’s super young staff this year. So, he’ll work out in Sacto until his time comes again and it will come.
