I wrote a letter to Dayan Viciedo the other day and promised to sing about him. After hearing this rhyme, I knew I had to take it for me. I couldn’t think of a better way to explain my infatuation because there is life and there is Dayan, at least for this week. Here’s what I’m singing to him:

I’m like Tre, that’s Cuba Gooding
I know I’m good at
Dayan of thirst
Dayan of thirst
Dayan of thirst

Grey’s boy Kendrick Lamar must have been a regular on Razzball when he wrote this epic of a hip hop song. His weaving of Boyz N the Hood references and our favorite island to pluck talent from feels like it was written for us. Now I just need to throw down a Menace II Society, South Central and Friday reference and my teenage era stereotypes of urban city LA livin’ will be complete. I wrote this while eating cheeseburgers I got off a basehead.

After a really strong stretch in April 7.4% owned Dayan Viciedo took a break in May from hitting for average. He went all Mendoza the half Donkey on us. I have to wonder if Adam Dunn has taken him under his wing as a protege and tried to convert him to the religion of Donkianity? In Latin their saying is “Donkinus Providebit”  which translates to the Donk will provide. Sorry got sidetracked there, religion will do that to you. Dayan blasted 4 homers in May and gave us that really sweet .229 batting average. June wasn’t going very good either until about 5 days ago when he decided to start hitting the ball and getting counting stats again. Over that stretch he’s gone 5 for 17 with 5 runs, 1 HR, and 2 RBI’s. It’s a good start to what should be a nice week ahead where the Hitter-Tron has him as the 66th rated hitter and a $13.60 play. It’s good to see us start seeing eye to eye again. I think he was pissed at me for the bunk case of Pennzoil I sent him a few weeks back. That lube breaks down way too easily.

This coming week Dayan hits the road where he has put up better number this year than at hitter friendly U.S. Cellular. The splits, .230 at home with 2 HR’s vs. a .264 with 4 HR’s on the road, give me hope that a surge at home will happen at some point. He’s hit left handers well sporting a .271 BA vs a .239 BA against right handers. The week opens with three games at Baltimore where he’s put up a line of .357/.536/.893. In that series he gets lefty Bruce Chen to open on Monday which would be a perfect opportunity to use him as a batty call if you can’t use him the rest of the week. The other two days he gets right handers Miguel Gonzalez and Ubaldo Jimenez. Don’t worry though, he’s gone a combined .423 against the three starters in the series which includes 7 for 18 vs. Ubaldo and 2 for 2 against Gonzalez. Yummy! After the Orioles he goes to the land of Capozzi and gets two more left handers and the joy of returning to the Buck Rogers Centre. The home runs there are out of this world! In his career he’s put up a line of .481/.815/1.332 which is his best of any ballpark. The sample size might be small, what I tell her, but it’s stout. 2 HR’s and 3 doubles in only 27 AB’s is mighty nice. He also gets two left handers in J.A. Happ and Mark Buehrle and has a combined batting average of .500 against three of the four starters. The fourth is Marcus Stroman who he’s never faced before but has a 5.24 ERA at home with a .333 batting average against. I like the odds my friends and critics. In this game, you win some, you lose some, but you live, you live to fight another day…Yeah, that’s from Friday.

Others I considered this week are Josh Harrison (7.4%) as he continues to hit well as he fills in for Neil Walker. Gaining second base eligibility in ESPN boosts that value up even more. I think the rise of the MI last week will continue on. Rougned Odor (4.3%) and Josh Rutledge (1.3%) continue to peak my interest as the former keeps climbing and the latter has a home series and a trip to hitter friendly Miller Park. Lastly for the SAGNOF-needy go grab Jake Marisnick (1.3%) whose stolen four bags since being called up last week. Thanks for reading and we can chat it up in the comments. Have a great week everyone. Deuces out!
