Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

True story: one of my childhood friends had a younger brother who was big into WWF or WWE or whatever that wrestling league was called with the Undertaker and so and so and such and such…yeah, it’s clear I didn’t watch it at any point really but that’s not the point of this story.  So it was the summertime and said friend and I along with our regular High School crew went out around our town of 5,000 to see what there was to see and do what there was to do.  After 10 seconds, we realized that ‘nothing’ was the answer to the previous ‘see/do’ commentary and headed back to his house.  When we opened the door, we were shocked to find his brother putting wrestling moves on a stuffed bear but that wasn’t the only segment that was awkward about this.  He was doing all of this with only basketball shorts and a Batman utility belt on with wrestling figures in all the belt pockets.  When he realized we were taking in his wrestling kabuki theater of horrors, he turned to us with the look of a man who knows he’ll never live it down and balled ‘what are you doing here?!?’ and girlishly ran to his room.  We literally couldn’t move for about 10 seconds as we stood and stared into the open space that once held one of the weirdest moments we wished we’d never seen in our lives.  And done, thank you for reading and I’ll see you next week!  Oh wait, this isn’t my personal blog I’m here to pick a hitter to roll with as the creeper of the week.  Ok, I’ll take Chris Nelson for $1000, Alex.  Daily Double!  Oh, that pun might actually hold into the next paragraph.  Wanna find out?  Well read on as we see more about Chris for 2013 fantasy baseball…

Well, if you’re reading this I assume you’re familiar with the term ‘Homeschooling’.  No I’m not referring to why there are pictures of you doing kegstands and making out with your mom on prom night on your instagram account.  I’m referring to our version of Homeschooling in which a hitter is comfortable at home versus on the road.  Well actually, everyone loves to hit where Chris Nelson calls home.  Of course, I’m talking of Coors Field, a place where every hitter gets drunk with power because they sure as heck don’t get drunk on Coors.  That shizz has like 2.5% alcohol and might actually be distilled deer piss from those Rocky Mountain waters.  But more to the point, in 300 career at-bats there in Denver, Nelson holds a career .320 average and has 6 HRs and 20 doubles. Why is all of this important?  Well, first off let’s get back to my Daily Double pun point: he might actually get to average one a day and hits low in a good lineup.  The chances of him driving in some runs while helping your average out for the week is pretty Rocky Mountain High because all 7 of his games this week are at home.  Not interested?  Well then your MI probably isn’t getting put in a sleeper hold by Dustin Ackley or Jason Kipnis.  Whatcha gonna do brother!?!  For a guy who’s less than 1% owned in ESPN leagues and only 8% owned in yahoo leagues, there’s solid value for people who need a bit of MI help for the week.  So go out and tap the Rockies, homeschoolers, NOT your moms.

In the vein of Middle Infield help… would you bite at Cozart for Myers? 12 tm OPS keeper league, and the other guy just lost Reyes. Worth a shot, or am I inadvertantly mocking someone’s intelligence?

Any shortstop creepers? I grabbed kozma for my angels hole caused by the admiral’s limp. you like sogard, crawford, aviles or any other sub 5% SS owners better.

@Bourne: That’s a league based/who’s available question. None of those three have much to them. Aviles only gets PT with injury but he’s the only one of interest from the group you’ve listed.

several questions, i will keep them short though

keeper league, i have been offered manny machado for a 3rd round draft pick, worth it (my current 3b is plouffe)?

need a SS with reyes down, options are b crawford, d espinosa, j peralta, m gonzales, or z cozart

lastly, if you had to drop one j parker or b mccarty who would you chose? and is Cingrani
a bettewr option than those 2

    • Sky

      Sky says:

      @mcBlunty:

      1) I’m interested in Machado in a keeper. Try and talk him down to 5th round if you can, though.

      2) I’d want Espinosa if I knew his hand was ok (got plunked yesterday and left the game); Peralta will be boring but give decent RBIs, I’d give him a roll.

      3) I’d drop both if I could, personally. Choosing one for just Cingrani, though, I’d choose McCarthy

Picks up Nelson in RCL on Saturday, writes the “go get him” article on Monday…well played, sir. When’s the Cingrani call-up gonna become official, dang it?! I just spent my last transaction on him in my points league. Don’t know how I’m hanging on the middle-of-the-pack status in your league, I think I “punted” home runs.

Would you drop Hammel, Doubront, Bailey or Bud Norris for Cingrani in a QS, K/9 roto? I’m kind of leaning “no.” And if “yes” what’s a decent FAAB on him if I won José Fernández @ $11 (+1 for accent points.)?

I’m not only the president of Creeper of the Week, I’m also a client!

He’s probably not officially up until they need a start but if Leake keeps doing what he’s not supposed to be doing, it’ll be worth it.

Not a big Doubront fan, feel like he does more harm to your ratios than good even with K/9, especially because he’s a 5 IP kinda guy. Cingrani FAAB? Eh, always league based, is this a keeper? If you won Fernandez at $11, someone out there might overspend to get Cingrani. Think you should spend same or less, but I’d be surprised if you got him.

I hate weekly leagues. But I’m in two of them. Stuff happens. So … this article is gold yesterday. Today … not so much. I know you guys know this, and created an emotional attachment to filling Aybar’s shoes with Segura instead of Nelson just to make my insides wrestle. Mean.

    • Sky

      Sky says:

@Eric: I have no problem with that swap. Segura should be able to replicate Aybar in terms of general production and is in a better lineup slot most nights than Chris.

    8 team 5×5 Keeper

    Pick one Estrada, Ryu, Cingrani
    (Hold until Cingrani gets up)

Cingrani for upside/keeper potential. In an 8 team, it looks like those are streaming options, not holding options.

Sure, try it. In an 8 team, though, it sounds like you have a lot of bench bats and it might be hard to get someone to bite on it with there probably being a lot of talent on the FA market.

@Sky: I also cannot stand Lance Lynn… This guy will get shelled so ill sit him against a loaded reds line up and he absolutely shuts them down, on my bench, helped a lot. That wrestling story is great. I wish I saw the match with the teddy bear.

My parents moved last week. While cleaning out their basement last year my father came across a Ric Flair action figure and a Dr. Evil figure. The Flair toy was still in its package and the year showed 2001 or so. This means my father bought a wrestling toy at around age 56.

My son was given the toys. Seeing my 3-year old walking with a Ric Flair toy in one hand and Dr. Evil in the other was funny. It was not as funny as the bear story, however.

HA that’s cute! I gave my little brother and sister my Legos and transformers (very large age gap). Was always a hoot to see them tinkering around with things that I had grown up with and grunt to remember what it was like to look at those toys the same way they do now as you did back then

          Sky says:

Yeah it’s still early. I have Span on all of my teams this year. Great value. Never thought he deserved a sleeper post but he’s on pace for 25 SB and 100 runs. Just surprised he’s leading off and got ignored draft day.

Salv has been good, just no big HR or RBI games yet. Hard to hit 4th and not have bigger counting stats while hitting .280 but he’s finding a way.

          • Jack Full of Hate says:
            (link)

@Sky: I drafted Span on the 100/25 notion, hopefully it works out for me.

              Sky says:
              (link)

He stays healthy and has a reasonable OBP, there’s no one that’ll replace him at the top of that lineup. They’ve been missing a lead off guy for the last couple of years and Span is just that.

One of my teams is in 7th because of really slow starts. Bruce, Mous, Bautista, Ike and BJ. They should combine for about 140 HRs this year and I don’t think I’ve got more than 5 out of the group. So early but so frustrating

              • Jack Full of Hate says:
                (link)

@Sky: I own Ike, its ahrd because my dad also roots for the Mets, so we as a family follow them and I get his observations all the time.

                  Sky says:
                  (link)

Wish Ike would get a bit closer to the plate. Not saying its right but he gets strikes called on him on the other side of the plate that he literally can’t reach with his stance. Think I throws the Ump off, makes him think the edge is closer than it really is. Watching a game where he and Duda get atbats in the same inning, it’s clear the umps can’t figure out how to determine Ike’s strike zone correctly

I have not, sadly, but I know I will eventually.

I didn’t know Span was going to be so ignored until draft day. Got him in the 20th round of a 30 round 8 keeper league and got him in the 24th and 22nd round of the RCLs I’m in. Thought there was some major injury or issue I didn’t know about for a guy leading off the for the Nats not to go higher or get hyped.

Acquaintances but no friends; my good friends now live in New Jersey, Spokane, Indiana and Ohio. We keep talking about getting together at a neutral site just to have some good times but it’s hard to organize. Going back this summer to the hometown for a wine/food festival which is about as close as I’m ever going to get to a high school reunion. Really, small towns like that, the only people who stay probably own a family business if they’re successful or had their most successful years in high school and like reliving it each night down at the bar.

Really not much to report on that end, honestly. In High School, the big thing to do was go to the ‘big’ city and catch a movie and go bowling. Didn’t party or drink in high school and it was an agricultural community in eastern washington. Not much to do when you’re not drunk or high. Played basketball probably more than I went to school when we talk hours spent.

Might be the grass is always greener or maybe it’s an age thing. Honestly, I could picture living there now but as a kid it’s painful. Granted, were talking pre-Internet, Wi-fi days here. Might’ve been nicer that way, just made me feel claustrophobic. Of course, I like living in a college town now that’s not too big, not too small. Like it better than big city or small town, feel like its best of both worlds without having to get too much in return

Sure but even in small towns you’ll find that too especially with meth being a drug of choice for the down and outers. Mostly just a bunch of harmless toking hippies around here with a few rough neighborhoods tossed in around the city. I avoid the Whitaker area for the reasons you mention. It’s where the hippies go when it’s no longer peace, love dope and they’ve moved on to rob, handjob for money and crack.

Back to nelson, I’m hoping he really proves you right. What these baseball commentors don’t know is that you stunk up the joint in football early only to have some late season gold. I won’t forget how you helped we to the title. I still havent figured out how to ship beer, but i’m working on it.

BTW, my buddy and i use the term I tried to get through on the site, only to be nixed by Rudy. when he’s (anyone at Coors) he hit’s Bichetter, Nelson should have a great week, he’s Bichetter at home.

Bich is latin for generousity, or so South Park leads me to believe.

Yeah, it was a weird start to the year; I had a late jump on the football side – started in abouts late April/early May – so I’m looking forward to a full off-season under my belt for some processing/evaluating. Picking a good ball player for a week stretch is pretty hard. You can evaluate it down to the bone and if the guy doesn’t hit, he doesn’t hit. Or if the entire week gets snowed out, can’t stop that either. Very little control.

      • Jack Full of Hate says:
        (link)

@Sky: I’ll be there to criticize you the entire way, football can be tough if a quarterback decides not to throw a guys way or a running back keeps getting pulled at the goal line even though he weighs 220.

Bich may be, i was talking about Dante Bichette

Oh I know. I remember watching that first Rockies season. I swear he hit a line drive in one game that could’ve been caught by the 3rd basemen that left the yard. Those first few years were ridiculous.

Oh and yeah, about football: it’s a one and you’re done kinda deal. I called Knowshon but I also thought Jennings would come back strong for Green Bay most of the year. You live and die by the week in fantasy football. It’s one of the things I really appreciate about baseball: you have more time/allowance to see if your convictions hold true.

BTW, stepping out to another all day meeting so I’ll talk with you later…ugh, CRM implementation.

How would you rank these: E. Cabrera $2, Rutledge $7, Segura $2
    10 team 6×6 roto keep 8

I’m mostly concerned with this year, but if one of these guys will have much better value next year, that could be factored in to the equation.

@Andrew: E-Cab & Segura are for SB and Rutledge for a little pop so it’s a bit of a needs based thing. I like cheap MI/steals and am not a huge Rutledge guy. I’d rank Segura/Rutledge/E-Cab.
