Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

Look, I know we’re not friends.  At least not true friends, we’re internet friends.  You barely know me, I barely know you.  We occasionally share drink recipes and quips about reality television.  But you come here every week, you read the content on this site which means you do know something about me: my fantasy baseball abilities.  I heard you snickering!  But for cereal, it feels like you’re not listening to me.  I know you’re not doing it on purpose.  You wouldn’t flat out ignore me, would you?  We’re not married so I don’t see why you would so I’m trying to figure out why Adam Lind is only 35% owned, with 27% of that ownership happening in the last week.  I mean, I mentioned him quite clearly on this Razzball Podcast.  You probably snickered then too.  Admittedly, I didn’t think the kid was gonna stay this hot for this long.  It’s getting to the point of ridiculousness on a grand scale but I am not gonna stop talking about him until he’s at least 50% owned.  I’m serious, take this as a threat or he’s the Creeper of the Week for week 12 as well!  But enough with idle threats – or are they? – I’m here to talk about why he’s a creeper for this week of the 2013 fantasy baseball season…

He’s hitting.  Analysis done.  You don’t need no more, son…or daughter…is that really the correct slang response there?  I don’t feel like I can drop the mic after saying ‘whatchu want, daughter’.  Four lady razzball readers, can you just roll with this minor case of misogyny so I don’t sound more ridiculous than I already am?  I’ll take your silence as consent…no I didn’t mean it like that either!  I have a meeting with HR in my future for sure now.  Well if that’s the case, I better blabber about Lind while I can.  Trust me when I say, I don’t think anyone thought they’d be talking about Adam in early June with how he started the year.  On May 1st, Lind entered his game that day with a .244 average, a .311 slugging percentage and zero HRs.  If he were a catcher or a good fielding MI, I could see why he’d stay on but he’s a DH.  For those who don’t know what that is, it’s a Designated HITTER, which clearly Adam wasn’t doing a good job with.  However, there was one stat that seemed out of line with his career arc to date that probably led to this offensive outbreak; during that same stretch, Lind also had a .397 OBP, an incredibly high walk rate that would rank 10th in the entire MLB if he had enough ABs to qualify.  Well, we all know he’s hitting well now.  After going 4/7 on Saturday – 3/3 of which were off of Yu Darvish – Lind is now up to a staggering .342 average and has hit 5 HRs and 9 doubles in his last 104 at bats.  Prorate that over a a 550 ABs and you have about a 26 HR, 47 double season.  Yeah but he can’t hit lefties.  Well I hate to argue with you but he hit a HR off a lefty last week.  Wanna know where he did that?  In Petco Park.  So two things to note about that there.  One is that’s not the easiest park to hit one out in so the power threat is real.  Secondly, he couldn’t play DH there, so the Blue Jays had to make room in their lineup, moving Edwin Encarnacion to 3rd to get him into that NL park to face a left handed pitcher.  You know why Edwin’s nickname is E5, right?  Exactly.  That’s called faith y’all, something that you haven’t shown me since my first Lind call, clearly, due to ownership numbers.  So I’m here to tell you to make up for that gaffe and solidify our internet acquaintance or we are through!  Until next week, of course.

Sky, are either Kyle Blanks or Cameron Maybin worth picking up?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Depends who I’m dropping for them. Blanks is probably on the wrong side of a lefty/righty platoon. Maybin if you need steals

  2. Shane says:
    (link)

Should I drop Konerko, Hosmer or Lowrie for Morse? 6×6 OBP league and Hosmer has started to hit a little of late, but Morse needs to be owned right?

    • Sky

      Sky says:

I’d drop Konerko or Lowrie for him. Probably Konerko for me

    • Sky

      Sky says:

      I’d want the Stanton side

  4. Chris says:

Sky, I’ve got another question for you: What’s up with Nori Aoki. I mean, I get it. The dude never strikes out and makes solid contact. But 13 RBI for the season? Plus, he’s not stealing many bases. If you had to choose one ROS in a H2H league (R, HR, RBI SB, AVG,) who would you pick up: Aoki, Chris Carter, Maybin, JD Martinez? And what catcher would you rather have ROS, Jason Castro or Miguel Montero? Thanks man!

    • Chris says:
      (link)

@Chris: Forgot to add another catcher to that list. Yasmani Grandal.

      • Sky

        Sky says:
        (link)

@Chris: Carter’s only good for away games, Maybin is a question mark and JD is pretty meh. Aoki is a more solid play every day over any of those guys and I’d look to move him in a trade before I dropped him. BTW, he’s a leadoff guy; shouldn’t really be relied on for RBIs

        I actually like Castro there.

      • Sky

        Sky says:
        (link)

@Chris: I like Yasmani for average, Castro for power.

        • Chris says:

@Sky: Thanks. I guess you’ve given up on Montero too. He has really sucked so far this season.

2)will the Mets shut Harvey down before the playoffs.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@huge caulk: Harvey may get shut down but I’d keep him over Choo any day. Not worried about the HBP, it’s part of his game.

I heeded your advice from the podcast and picked up Lind and have been riding the wave ever since. With Giancarlo coming back I’l have a tough decision on who to sit between Lind, Gardner and Aoki. I need steals and RBIs. Gonna play the matchups for now.

Nice, glad to hear someone out there heard me! Nice problems to have there.

      • Shake N Bacon says:

@Sky: Ha, yeah. Damn Giancarlo coming back really messes things up :)

Sky do you have any concerns with Alcides Escobar? I need steals so I traded for him, and he has really sucked since then. Do you like him or Andrus more rest of season?

        • Sky

Not to throw water on the Lind bandwagon, but he has a .730 BABIP in the past week. Ride the streak, but I imagine it will come to an end sooner or later. No reason to hold on longer than necessary. Homer today though!

@Mariner Mike: sounds like the FA is big enough to hop around from hot hand to hot hand. If I really had to pick one, though, it would be Yunel but be prepared to be bored if you go that route

@ferris: Not so hot on the Choo trade, like the J-Up trade, though.

  18. Travis says:
    (link)

I have LaRoche at 1b right now–he droppable for Lind? Or drop maybin and carry two 1b (start one in util)?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

If Maybin is your UTIL, I’d drop for Lind.

      • Travis says:
        (link)

@Sky: Well Maybin is actually just on my bench, Brown is in my UTIL. However, with Braun underperforming from a nagging thumb issue, debating sitting him and putting Brown in OF and UTIL open. My OF would be: Puig, Brown, Marte, and AJAX coming back soon.

So for that–Lind over Maybin? What about Ozuna?

Where you rank Marte vs Maybin ROS?

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

@Travis: Sorry, my phone reception was touch and go yesterday, this answer must not have posted. I would’ve said to sit Braun, actually, due to his thumb. I do like Lind over Maybin ROS. I’d still rank Marte over Maybin ROS as well.

  19. jhalb says:

Start Stanton over any of these guys this week? Adam Jones, Hunter Pence, Kendrys Morales

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Assuming you play in a weekly, I’d hold with guys you know are healthy.

  20. C.O.C. says:
    (link)

So I have a trade on the table right now. I know a week ago this wouldn’t have been acceptable, but with Braun having everything over hi head and dealing with the hand injury (which btw, worry me because hes playing through it and it sounds similar to what limited J. Upton last year. But I can get Iwakuma and B.J. Upton right now for Braun. Do it?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I understand the fear but I’d want Braun there

      • C.O.C. says:
        (link)

@Sky: 16 team H2H where pitching is SCARCE and I lost Peavy…slightly panicked

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

@C.O.C.: I don’t like trading from panic, makes you do drastic things. Just hold and keep your eyes peeled for pitching and that trade isn’t very good anyways.

  21. Los Locos says:
    (link)

    Bj upton or maybin

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      I’d stay Upton there

  22. Andrew says:
    (link)

can start 3 of the following

Braun, Stanton, Heyward, Rizzo, Carpenter, Marte

Since I don’t need the steals as much, I’m leaning 1. Heyward 2. Rizzo, 3. Carpenter. I’m wondering if Braun and Stanton are so good that I shouldn’t think of benching them, or if you think Marte’s on the verge of a hot streak.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Andrew: Now with it being clear the thumb issue is bothering him, I don’t mind the idea of sitting Braun. I’d want Stanton/Heyward/Rizzo there.

  23. ty says:
    (link)

Is dropping Swisher for La Roche a wash in a 5×5 ros league?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@ty: LaRoche is usually a strong second half hitter; I’d give him the slight edge

  24. Mike says:
    (link)

Whos better ROS Todd Frazier or Lind?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      @Mike: I like Lind more.

  25. Ulysses says:
    (link)

Drop Joyce for Lind this week?

  26. Clark says:
    (link)

I have aoki on bench and was offered Crawford and aj Ellis for him. Should I do it in hoping they can help out in later in the season. I do have Avila as catcher so was thinking Ellis could be somewhat of an upgrade and Crawford could do better than aoki when back. Really just want to know if my logic is ok. Thanks.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Ellis not much of an upgrade really. I’d hold, personally

  27. Jack Full of Hate says:

Hey whats up Sky… I asked Grey about this but the trade changed a bit.. This guy wants MCcutchen, Shelby Miller and Starlin Castro for Brandon Phillips, Bautista and Locke or Masterson. Should I do it? Keep in mind I really wanted to get rid of Castro anyway cause I have Reyes..

    • Frank White says:

Do you like Bonderman vs Lyles tomorrow or Straily vs Hughes?? Or should I hold on both of them? I’m streaming

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Bonderman is garbage and Straily has a bad matchup. Doesn’t sound like a good idea to me

      • Frank White says:
        (link)

So would you grab Lyles or Hughes or do you think I shouldn’t touch any of them?

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Matchups aren’t bad that way. Lyle for the win opp, Hughes I have a hard time trusting but it’s a good park to gamble on and he has K upside. I’d probably go Hughes there.

          • Frank White says:

  32. Frank White says:
    (link)

Oh, The other day I asked everybody if I should trade MCcutchen for Puig straight up and all you guys said I was crazy if I did that… The point is, Why wouldn’t you want Puig over Cutch? Cutch has been barely average all season and I know it’s only been a little over a week for Puig but I think he’s gonna be doing this all season.. You??

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Jose Iglesias is 20/46 over the last 15 days. You should drop Ryan Braun for him. Get what I’m saying? You’re basing your argument on seeing 32 career at-bats out of Puig. You can keep asking the same ridiculous question and you’ll get the same response: it’s very stupid idea.

  33. Frank White says:
    (link)

Morning Sky… So for a lil over a month now, Justin Upton has been giving my team the average of 3 points PER WEEK! Some weeks he’s given negative points, IN A WHOLE WEEK… He’s killing me. Anyway I know everybody sais never to bench him but I have Ozuna on the bench. Would you sometimes take him out for Ozuna till he sheds some light? Like today

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Hey Frank; usually not the greatest idea to sit a top 25 guy. Ozuna is nice but nothing amazing. It’s fine, but production potential wise, you’re taking a step backwards in doing it

  34. Frank White says:
    (link)

Sup Bro… Hey I have Castro at SS and waiting for Reyes. I have one guy on my bench and it’s Ozuna. Scince Castro is in such a bad slump, do you think I should drop Ozuna and pick up Jhonny Peralta?? I can play him at SS till castro comes around then put him on the bench for when I need him

  35. Frank White says:
    (link)

Also, Do you think Corbin is going downhill from here? I was wondering if I should trade Shelby or Corbin for Bautista?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Frank White: Corbin has pitched above his ability all year. Even though I like him, he’s really just good not great like he has been. I’d take Bautista in either instance, personally, but would rather trade away Corbin in that scenario.
