Master Standings are here. They’ve been updated through Sunday, September 25

With just 3 days left in the season, Random Italicized Voice (RCL 5) is coasting to the title. They lost a point off their lead this week, but still hold a 5-point edge. Better Lucky Than Good (Partially Torn RCL) continues to hold onto 2nd place, but Nuclear Porcupines (RCL 3) has been charging and now sits in 3rd, 2 points back with 112 points. Since the All Star break, the Porcupines have gained 32 points. (Oh The Humanity (RCL 17) had 46 points at the break. They changed their name to Lucky Strikes, and now have 90 points!)

Four teams have 110 points – Team Beefcake (Too Drunk to Call a Cabrera), Oakland Oaks (Matthew Berry is a Tool), Buchz and Dunn (Too Drunk to Call a Cabrera), Big Z’s Anger Management (RCL 33) – and another 10 have 105 or more, so there could still be a lot of movement in the battle to finish in the top 10.

Besides the battle in Too Drunk to Call a Cabrera, several leagues are too tight to call. There is a tie for 1st in The Beer League. Lincecum in my Posey and Prague Defenestrators each have 98 points, while the Dukes of Flatbush are just 1.5 back. Can Of Corn and Catchup and Fryman are tied atop RCL 25.

In Puff Puff Give, Pickled Mustache Rides moved back into first Sunday, half a point ahead of Grizzly Manholes. RCL Is My Anti Drug is another 3 points behind. In the toughest league around, the ECFBL, THE VILLE AL KOHOLIC A lead 2nd place Retro Vertigo by 2 points. Tennessee Jed is 2.5 up on Boston Peter Gammons in RCL 30. NYC Matthole trails My Little Colby by 2.5 in Ones are GOOD right?

The seesaw battle in RCL 6 currently has My Gut is Latos Intolerant 2 ahead of Louisville Bats. The Seattle SilverBacks caught The AmishGangster yesterday in Epic Beardmen Division. They are now tied for the lead, while Army of Llamas is only 3 back.

In The Dread Pirate Rides Again, That’s a Shame has been in a dogfight with THE FIELD, but now have a 5-point cushion. RCL 7, RCL 22, RCL 34, Patrons of Poonhoundery, and More Donkeycorns Please also have margins of 5 or less between 1st and 2nd place.

I will update these races daily, so check the RCL forums for the latest.

Several teams have been maximizing their pitching numbers by using 8 or 9 starters as they near the 180 games started limit. All stats count on the day you reach the limit, so if you sit at 179 and start the maximum 9, it is possible to actually get 188 starts for the season.

Afghanistan Buzkashi (RCL 7) put up some great numbers on Friday, recording 46 strikeouts with a 2.15 ERA and 0.79 WHIP. They were only rewarded with 2 wins though. Yesterday, my Toronto Bautistas (RCL 5) scored an unlikely 7 wins, with 37 Ks and an ERA of 2.73 and 1.14 WHIP. Who said chasing wins is a losing proposition? (Grey Albright, August 22, 2011). In case you didn’t know, wins are fluky. (Grey Albright, February 7, 2011). But, it’s the end of the season, and you might as well take your shot.

I expect more teams will be rolling out the starters in the next 3 days, and I will be highlighting their efforts in the forums.  Have fun the last 3 days, then rest a couple days, then start preparing for 2012! Only 190 days til opening day!

Need pitching for final 2 days to win gold. Which match ups get me the best chance at Wins/Ks (Already won ERA/Saves). These look like my best options on the wire. I need 2!!

    Kuroda @Ari
    Sanders vs LAD
    Volstad vs WAS

    Anthony Bass vs Cubs
    Arroyo @ Mets
    Lannan @ Fla

** these guys are out there also which offer favorable match-ups but their pitching has been suspect.

    Appreciate updates, Vin.

I’m battling AL KOHOLIC in the ECFBL and it’s been one hell of a race down the stretch.

Still a little hard for me to imagine that there’s a team out there with 118 pts….out of 120 possible. Wow.

@Chris: No kidding on the 118. I`ve been in public leagues where I was the only one making moves, and didn`t come anywhere close to 118.

@mauledbypandas: Ha!. If you`re in a less competitive league it drags you down; if you`re in a very competitive league it`s tough to get the big points!

  7. mauledbypandas says:

@VinWins: yeah, my league is pretty non-competitive, just a two horse race. Hopefully next year I can get in a more competitive one.

It’s not impossible for me to get to 114 unindexed but that would be the max and I don’t think it’s going to happen.

In a dynasty league, thinking of sending Huston Street packing as he seems to have fallen out of favor and can’t stay healthy for an entire season. Was wondering if you think the Rangers will actually carry through with their plans to convert Feliz back to starting or they just blowing smoke up everyones ass again? If so and they stay in house for a closer will it be Uehara or Adams?

@Jim: If you ask on the previous post, Grey will answer.

Jim: probably impossible to answer right now. Not even the Rangers themselves know yet.

Can you wait until after the post-season and get some other data points?

I really like the Rangers chances by the way. Love them at 8-1 to win the series. Saw them a lot live this year and I like the way they play. Very head in the game baseball. Love the aggressive style on the bases. Loaded line up. Pen that’s playoff ready.

Thanks Vin, just trying to make a move before seasons end. We usually have a week after it ends to make pick ups or trades before next spring training. I can see the Rockies moving Street, just afraid he may end up in a set up role somewhere. Betancourt has been the better pitcher thus far and may be in line for closing next season.

Nuclear Porcupines here. I’d been way behind in starts for most of the season since I traded Haren early on for more hitting, which explains the charge late in the season. Running out of steam out though – think I’ll top out at 115, maybe 116 at the most, which won’t be enough to catch the leader. Much better than last season, though (triple-digit ranking, woot!).

2 side questions – #1 where do i go on yahoo to find draft results for a league ? and #2 What would u say is the best draft strategy for fantasy baseball ? Catcher 1st? 2b 2nd ? ??? please let me know what order do u think u get most value. I pretty much have my pay league locked up but had to make alot of trades in season to get a team that i actually liked and was comfortable with

@Peter W.: A very impressive run, and with 456 teams, any top 10 finish is amazing.

@Anthony: On your Yahoo team page there is a heading “Draft Central” with 1 of the options being “Draft Results”

As for draft strategy, you’ll have to check out Grey’s February and March posts for lots of good advice. One thing for certain, don’t take a catcher early.

Thanks for the updates, Vin. You did a terrific job all season.

“In the toughest league around, the ECFBL, THE VILLE AL KOHOLIC A lead 2nd place Retro Vertigo by 2 points.”

Darn right! Toughest league in Razzball!

Perhaps you, Rudy, or Gray know what is the highest league index in Razzball history? Does 107 do the trick? Would really like to know the answer, as my idea was to form the most competitive league in the RCL. My team might not have done much, but I succeeded in my mission, apparently.

@Paulie Allnuts: Thanks! It is my first year of involvement in the RCL, so I don’t know what previous years were like. It’s hard to imagine that there could have been a better league than the ECFBL though.
