Master Standings are here.

The Pesky Pole Dancers (Trippin’ Baseballs) are the first half champions! They have managed to stave off some tough challengers to lead most of the way. The Dancers have an impressive 111 points and a 3-point lead. Their best category is Runs, where they lead the pack with 681, but they are above average in all 10 stat categories. With 74 starts remaining, they are in good shape for pitching in the second half.

Jose Bautista has led the Dancers, hitting .331 with 31 home runs and 65 RBI. Other key hitters include Mark Teixeira, Ryan Braun, and Shane Victorino. Michael Bourn has contributed 33 steals. Cole Hamels has led the pitching staff with 11 wins, 119 strikeouts, and a 2.39 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. Daniel Hudson and Chad Billingsley, with 17 wins and 196 Ks between them, have been solid. Picking up Ryan Vogelsong in May to replace Jorge De La Rosa has proven to be a great move. Vogelsong has added 3 wins and 41 Ks while putting up a 2.30 ERA in 58.2 IP. That was 1 of only 17 additions for the Dancers in the first half.

They are also strong in saves, with 4 closers with at least 18 saves, led by league-leader Craig Kimbrel and Joel Hanrahan.

CONGRATULATIONS on a great start, and good luck the rest of the way. There are several great teams within striking distance, so it will not be an easy ride to the title.

    Thanks for the rankings and updates Grey. Random thought time…Where do you see Strasburg being drafted/ranked next year?

    @carlos marmLOL: Ha! That certainly does help. Unfortunately, some of have Bautista and still messed up our teams.

    all the top teams have Bautista. so does this mean that to be the best fantasy team you must draft the yearly dominant player who was undervalued?

    sheesh, looks like I am in the worst league in the RCL.

    @Jesse: I don’t think it is a necessity, but obviously if you get the best player with a later pick, it is going to help.

    There are still a lot of games to play, and there are teams only 5-7 points behind who could win without Bautista.

    @Jesse:

    When you are talking about 450+ teams, yeah, you probably need to have the #1 player in order to be near the top.

    thanks for the update!

    I will say, I think im 14th and I get penalized because half my league members quit a week into the season, but I don’t have Bautista!

    It’s been fun, but it must be nice to be in an active league with more than 3 people playing

    @VinWins:

    It should be noted that Kelly D., A.K.A. AL KOHOLIC, presently leads in our league (ECFBL, the most competitive on God’s Green Earth) as well as Original Recipe. I don’t know if anyone has ever won two RCL titles in the same year, but Kelly has a good shot at pulling it off. And he is doing so in two tough leagues.

    @VinWins:

    One more item – Kelly managed to win the first half standings in both leagues without Bautitsta, which is apparently an uncommon event in the RCL. He also spotted the ECFFL some early points, punting Lance Berkman about a week into the season.

    Perhaps a Razzball column in the future ‘splaining how he performs his magic?

    And, of course, thanks VW for your service. Great job, nice commentary.

    @Paulie Allnuts: Thanks!

    I did mention Al in June when he had 2 team in the top 20 overall, but now that his ‘B’ team has slipped to 27th, I figured it wasn’t worth mentioning. Ha!

    In actual fact, there are only 9 leagues where the 1st place team has Bautista, and 2 of those didn’t have him all year as they acquired him in a trade.

    The top 4 teams overall do have Jose, but then only 2 of the next 30.
