Once again, congratulations go to the Pesky Pole Dancers (Trippin’ Baseballs), who continue to set the pace. They lead all teams in runs scored, and their lowest score is a 7 for WHIP. That’s a Shame (The Dread Pirate Rides Again) has moved into 2nd thanks to a strong league index. RCL 5 remains the most competitive league, despite the fact I own a team  there that is dropping like a rock. (Probably because I named them the Toronto Bautistas, and then didn’t trade Matt Holliday for Jose when I had the chance). Sleeve Of Wizard (More Donkeycorns, Please) gained 21 points this week and jumped 200 places in the standings to 203rd.

Master Standings are here.

Other category leaders:

Rosie Jones (36th place)  98 home runs
Auto Draft All-Stars (101st)  338 RBI
The Jets (80th)  85 steals
Team Beefcake (34th)  .286 average
Joe For Oil  (143rd) 534 Ks and 41 wins
fried chicken skins (55th)  41 wins
Champaign Enema Bandits (19th) 60 saves
Killa Beez (28th)  2.36 ERA and 1.04 WHIP.

Blockbuster: A big trade in RCL 34 on the weekend. Hack Pack traded Kevin Youkilis, Carl Crawford, and Matt Holliday to The BallBusters for Brian Wilson, Torii Hunter, … and they threw in Jose Bautista. Hack Pack should improve on their points for saves (4.5), but will Bautista hit enough to make up for the loss of those 3 stars? Of course, Holliday is still dealing with tightness in his left quadriceps muscle.

There have now been 82 trades. I’ll put the complete list in the RCL Forums.

Jose Bautista: I wasn’t planning on writing about Jose, but Grey said to me, “Vin, if that is your real name, we really need to hear more about Bautista.” And that’s me misquoting Grey! (Okay. Okay. Outright lying).  Bautista had an average draft position in the 38 RCLs of  36.3. The earliest he went was 23rd to Simply Fred in the ECFBL. 2 teams were lucky enough to grab him in the 5th round, including Knockatomi Plaza in RCL 25, who drafted Bautista with the 56th pick, the latest he went. Only 9 of the teams that drafted him are currently in 1st place, so I guess he can’t do it by himself. Hey, the Blue Jays aren’t in 1st either. 3 teams with Bautista are in 10th.

First Base: 170 of the 456 players drafted in the 1st round were first basemen. Prince Fielder’s ADP was 14.7, but somehow fell to 27 in 1 draft. Ryan Howard (19.1 ADP) went 31st once.

Chase Utley: With Utley now returning, all those owners who took a chance drafting him are hoping to be rewarded. Utley’s ADP was 66.7, but Revenge Of The Lawn in RCL 9 was able to pick him up in the 18th round with the 209th pick. He didn’t make it past the 10th round in any other drafts.

    Is that a malamute?

PS – you forgot to mention what place the team who has Bautista in RCL 5 is in. ;)

Andy Oliver brought up and starting Saturday. Furbush looked great last night. Furbush’s curve, slider working great with very good control.

@RandomItalicizedVoice: Yeah, I kick myself every day. Not that it would have helped much. I drafted quite poorly.

“That’s a Shame (The Dread Pirate Rides Again) has moved into 2nd thanks to a strong league index.” Thanks to a strong league index? Isn’t the league more competitive then? Cudos to Shame and DPRA!!! Thanks for the update. I’m enjoying it 100%.

@Chicago Mark: Good point. How about, “Thanks to being a good team in a strong league.”

I have teams Hack Pack and Knockatomi Plaza. The Joey Bats trade was proposed to me after I had traded for Youkilis and Crawford separately. I’m near the bottom of the standings, so I figured what the hey. Also, it gave me a reason to roster Jennings and Ackley in anticipation of their call ups. Drafting Bautista on the Hack Pack was actually courtesy of auto draft where I only preset the top 50 maybe. Ironically that team is in first place.

@Charlie Says: It certainly could turn out good for you. Trades don’t always work out as expected. You picked up good players and are not too far behind that you couldn’t be in the running at the end. Good luck!

Thanks VW. I need all the help I can get as I’m in last place. At least I’m in last place in a strong league.

@simply fred: Yeah, that league is wild. I’d never survive. You make or receive any Bautista offers?

Just wanted to say that my first year in discovering Razzball and playing in the RCl has been a blast and continues to be a lot of fun every day. Vin, your updates and side stories have been great and I look forward to the briefings in the forum as well as on the main sight here. Thought I was going to really hang a good showing in the latest, late Sunday night I was at 99 but lost a couple with AGonz going 4-4 but I snuck into the top 10. Thanks for all the time your putting into this, great job!

@VinWins: Eh, think they know better: the guy who drafted Bautista the highest might really like him.

Al Koholic said something leading like “you could really get a lot for him if you offered him.” Don’t think I could turn down Youk/Crawford/Holliday. :-)

@nyydj2: Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying it. You’ve got solid numbers across the board, too, with 7 being your worst score.

Good luck the rest of the way!

@VinWins: Ha! I guess you’d have to consider if a deal will move you up in the standings, but it’s still early.

Trade Haren for Uggla? I would have snap accepted this a few weeks ago, now not so sure

I wonder how many of the Utley draft pickups were autopicks? It would have been great if he dropped to 200th in my league, but he was auto drafted in the 3rd round by a no-show.

Who do I drop? Aaron Hill or Kelly Johnson?

@Jon: I’d probably still take Uggla, but you should ask on a Grey post for an expert opinion.

@muchacho: Don’t know how many were autodrafted, but he went in the 2nd round 3 times and the 3rd 5 more; probably all those were autos.
