@ grey: I live here in the D and got to hear all the rumors about verlander. Jack Morris said he thought his delivery had changed as if he was covering up for an injury. He was short arming his pitches. The tigers claimed to be a bad habbit type of thing they worked on it and his fastball did increase for a month or two and he won a few games vs some really rottons team before tanking again. there was also a tipping his pitches rumor….Time will tell but his fastball was there so I see a bounce back year coming. The guy needs to grow up some too. he is one of those guys who speeds way up when things start to go bad and just makes things worse

@BigFatHippo: Dunno if you’re on Mac or PC or what browser you’re using, but in Firefox on a Mac, you can control-click (same a right-click) on the spreadsheety bit and from the menu that appears select This Frame>Open Frame in new tab.

This opens the spreadsheety bit in a new browser tab, funnily enough. Then select File>Print and you should be able to print the entire contents from there. You’ve also got an option to save the page as a .PDF which you should certainly be able to print out.

Otherwise, PM me in the forum and I can send ‘em to ya.

@BigFatHippo: I get free screenings sometimes. Doubt was one. It was really good. It would play well on a TV though (or a stage). Frost/Nixon was a solid B. B+ if you're a history buff. B- if you really couldn't' care less. Langella was pretty amazing, great casting. Dooode had Nixon down. Did you see there's now $ amounts on Point Shares?

@Steve: Yeah, I'd say he's being taken in the above draft about where he should be. He's not a 2 starter that can take the next step to be a number 1. He's a three starter than might fall into a 2 starter year. Wow, I think I've just written my Verlander post in these comments. I just need to transcribe.

He is only 26 and while pitchers' workloads are obviously carefully managed, but he's been throwing pretty hard for pretty much (I assume) his whole career, so maybe his arm is a little worn. Disclosure: I know next-to-nothing about the physiology of pitching.

@Steve: That's a good question. At 26, it shouldn't be wear and tear and it doesn't seem to be. It seems like he was always a low 4 ERA pitcher with natural fluctuations. So he could be a 4.50 ERA or he could be a 3.75. What it boils down to, he's not really a 3.50 pitcher who got really unlucky last year. @BigFatHippo: Rudy added $ amounts to Point Shares.

@Jimmy ray: Young’s a flyball pitcher so a decent amount of his value comes from being a Padre, so, yes, he’d lose some luster if he were traded. I haven’t heard any rumors involving him though. And really the Padres don’t seem like they’re having a fire sale as much as just trying to trade away Peavy.

Verlander’s strikeouts dropped, his home runs per flyballs were abnormally low (which meant he was actually lucky last year) and he’s losing speed on his fastball. I will probably devote a whole post to Verlander, but he’s not due for a huge bounceback. He might get to a low 4.00 ERA and 150 Ks, but in 190 IP that’s not great.

@grey: what is your problem with verlander?I have him on my keeper team. If you are expecting 20 wins, 200 k’s….you will be disappointed. But all I am looking for is 13-16 win, 165-185 K’s with a fairly low whip and era. I doubt I will ever have Young on a squad because I see him as a 5th starter type for some of the reasons you stated. first half pitcher and never pitches a whole year 160-180 innings. I bet he will also be part of the fire sale going on. what you think of his value if he is traded away from that pitchers park?
