@Howard: I don’t envy your position, being tied to the White Sox farm system and all. If you’re looking for the Desmond Jennings-type guy, Mitchell or Thompson are the closest to it, but they’re still a couple years away and both have missed extended periods during their minor league careers to injury, which is cause for concern. But if you’re looking for the safe bet – the guy who’ll be up sooner and “stick in the show” – consider Escobar or Saladino. Again, though, there are no sure things among these White Sox prospects.

Hi Scott and welcome to the fray! I’m in a keeper league where you have to have to roster at least one prospect from your team who has never played in the majors. My being the White Sox, I’ve done the gamut of prospects: Flowers, Viciedo, Mitchell. Last year I had to drop Mitchell due to a short bench. You kind of have to hope on hitting a Desmond Jennings or it’s difficult. Anywhoo, who do you think Mitchell would be the best bet to stick in the show?

@chata: Thanks! And yeah, I’ll be picking up where the bubblegum guy left off.

@Racehorse: Correct. I wasn’t trying to imply that he could be up in 2012, only that how the Sox handle their left field vacancy this off-season will be telling regarding their outlook on Mitchell’s development. If Williams goes with a short-term option in left for 2012, it’ll pave a path for JM’s 2013 arrival. If that is the case, keep an eye on Mitchell’s progress next year at AA (or wherever he lands out of camp).
