I have an auction draft coming up, so I wanted to share the players I will be targeting. Normally I’m all OPS, all the time, but I signed up for a Yahoo! Avg pay league, so I used my Avg league projections. This league has 3 OFs, no MI or CI, two UTIL, $260 Budget. Here’s some auction draft strategy (hopefully your league hasn’t drafted yet…if so, bookmark this page and come back to it next year, and make a comment, and by then I’ll have totally forgotten writing this post, and I’ll be like, “why you commenting on a post from last year?” But I’ll still respond. I’m cool like that…) because of the aforementioned auction I thought I’d give you a glimpse into the mind of a madman. It’s a pay league on Yahoo!, so the prices I’m quoting come from their site (as of Thursday; Yahoo lists three prices – League Value, Projected Value and Average Cost – I go with the highest of the three). Please, blog, may I have some more?
All the season-long projections you could ever want. A kick-ass DFS lineup optimizer and projections for DraftKings, FanDuel, and Yahoo!.
Right off the top, you know this is Part 1, since I put it in the title and all. There’s too many outfielders I want to say something about, and this post shouldn’t feel like homework, though if fantasy baseball articles are homework, I would’ve cared a lot more in school. But I don’t want that much math (like geometry, calculus, trigonometry, hard math). As an accountant people always say, “I bet you’re good at math.” No, I can use a calculator. But you’re going to need a calculator to add up the OPS Outfielder rankings coming up right now! (not worst segue ever, but honorable mention for sure). Please, blog, may I have some more?
I hope you do, because I’m at best, lukewarm (Yay! Starting off exciting). I’m not sure which I like least, Catchers in Fantasy Baseball or Kickers in Fantasy Football. Both score points/runs, both are integral to their teams, and both bore the ever-living crap out of me. But they are a necessary evil (though would anyone have a problem if we did away with fantasy catchers? I’m sure less would than doing away with kickers) that we have to play with, so while that’s the case, they get rankings. Now that you’re sufficiently warmed up, let’s get to it.Please, blog, may I have some more?
How many hot’s is too many? I’ll say three. Because three’s are wild when I’m dealing. Third Base is going to provide a ton of power this year (we really need to appreciate how many homers were hit last season, and wonder if regression is coming…but what fun is that? Let’s predict even more Power for 2017, shall we?) and there are some speed guys, and some multi-position qualifiers, and just a whole cornucopia of idiosyncrasies going on at third base.
It might be my favorite position this season. I typed that, never having thought that before, having a favorite fantasy position. Fantasy baseball position, you know that’s what I meant. My new favorite player, World Series Winner (typing that makes me so dang happy) Kris Bryant, qualifies there (and in the outfield, too) and if you’re a fan as well, check this out. While he’s number one in my heart, he’s number two in my rankings. Though number two ain’t bad (well, it depends on who number two works for, doesn’t it?).Please, blog, may I have some more?
Shortstop is top heavy, and you don’t want to leave your drafts, especially OPS-style, without one of the top six. Can I call them the Secret Six? Like the DC Comic? (Quick tangent, if you liked the Suicide Squad (movie or comic) and want an even better tale of misfit villains, then pick up Secret Six. It’s got Bane, Deadshot, great stories, and is just plain awesome. One of my favs of all time…) Anyhoo, so do you know what separates these six? They are the only guys I have predicted for an OPS over .800. Shortstop sure isn’t second base this season; who could believe all the power at the keystone? Please, blog, may I have some more?
OPS leagues are greatest! So now you know. Or at least act like it. Coming off a 2016 with all the homers (even guys like Didi Gregorius) hit, now is the perfect time to jump in and join! OPS incorporates walks like OBP does, and adds in slugging percentage to make a super sexy combo, not unlike Emily Ratajkowski and Instragram.
OPS leagues are all about home runs and power guys. So speed guys, well, they’re tolerated. High average guys, well, they’re okay, as long as they hit triples. In that spirit I encourage every one of you to join an OPS league; once you do, you’ll never go back. I’ll have an OPS league to join if you want to try one with the info at the bottom (so you have to read, or at least scroll; I swear it’s worth it).
Now the 2017 season is basically almost upon us. It snuck up on me; month long new years hangover, I wasn’t even thinking about baseball, and then, I logged on to Razzball and there it was, Grey’s top 10 for 2017…and just like that, I was back! And there’s no time to waste! Please, blog, may I have some more?
Entering the last weeks of the season, a few things have become crystal clear #1: No one wanted Crystal Clear Pepsi in the first place, why is it back? #2: OPS Leagues are the best in fantasyland and #3: It hasn’t been my best season overall. I know, I know, anyone that writes for Razzball should dominate every league they are in. I’m doing well in more leagues then I’m not, true; however I’ve had an epic collapse in my home league that has messed with me as I owned the first half; another I know I should be doing better in but moving across country, starting a new job; life really got in the way this summer (not that’s it’s an excuse…well it is, life happens). So I’m taking responsibility (or at least placing the blame). However one thing I didn’t need to be reminded of is the luck of it.Please, blog, may I have some more?
Well I fought the off mayonnaise malaise, survived and I’m back! Large, in charge, and ready to finish off the 2016 season on a high note. There’s still five weeks left in the season and it’s slim pickings out there but consider some of these guys and they’ll take you to the promised land like Moses (topical!). So let’s dive right in.
Looking at the last two weeks OPS it’s time to get back on the Randal Grichuk train. Choo-choo! Grichuk was a popular sleeper going into the season after finishing last season on a high note; he’s had an up-and-down first full season in the majors as he’s been sent down a couple times. The Cardinals need his help if they want to make the playoffs; his ownership has sunk to only 27% in Yahoo and 22% in ESPN. Since being recalled from AAA he has five homers, 11 RBIs and an OPS of 1.205! That’s good! Not so good? He’s walked once. Ah well, you can’t walk them all, or something like that. He’s gets Oakland at home then travels to Milwaukee and the Reds; loving those matchups for the week ahead. I’ve added him where I can and expect some power, no walks (obviously) and a decent OPS to finish out the season. Please, blog, may I have some more?
I was talking to a couple of friends about baseball and the necessity of pitching and we agreed that we don’t need it. IN Fantasy that is. Don’t get me wrong, I like pitchers and realize they are an integral part of the game; I mean someone has to throw the ball. Or do they? We have pitching machines already, and we don’t have to worry about them getting hurt. All we have to do is make them look cool. Let Kayne design them. Nah, you say, c’mon man, that’s crazy. I know it is; I’m just looking forward to when we have half man/half machine and full on robots like Super Baseball 2020 for the Super Nintendo (or if you were a rich kid back in the day you had it on Neo Geo). I don’t expect we’re getting there soon, and definitely not by 2020, but when we do I will be there cheering on Barry Bonds (if anyone is getting fused with a robot to play baseball it’s him, right?).Please, blog, may I have some more?
So since my last post Yahoo! decided to update their app. They didn’t tell me it was coming (I sent them emails for months asking for an update I guess [email protected] isn’t their email) but I like to think that I had a direct cause of the outcome (since I didn’t) as I did talk about it a few weeks ago, and now that we have an updated app it’s time to talk about it again.
First off, appearance: the drastic change in contrast from black to white (first thought: Michael Jackson, second thought: Seinfeld and the black & white cookie). I am decidedly not a fan. I have to turn down the screen brightness, and that’s just silly. Why can’t I choose what color I want the background to be? I’d like a light green personally but since we are all unique snowflakes we should all get the color we choose. This is America dammit! Please, blog, may I have some more?
