For a quick summary of each minor leagues leader boards, Rotoworld’s (Circling the Bases Blog) Matthew Pouliot complied the AAA OPS leaders, AAA ERA leaders, and Eastern League OPS and ERA leaders(AA). Not all of the names you’ll recognize, some you will because I wrote about them (Carlos Santana), others you will because they are quad-A players (Chris Shelton, John Bowker), and many notable players are not on the lists because they didn’t amass enough innings or at-bats to qualify (Tommy Hanson, Madison Bumgarner).

It has been quite a week in baseball. All this Jeter coverage is getting old, especially when that is all EPSN talks about, which coincidentally means all media outlets will too. While somehow this passed me by – Madison Bumgarner debuted in the majors last night throwing 5 1/3 innings of 2 run ball while having a 4:1 K/BB ratio (all in 76 pitches) against the offensively challenged Padres.

After a bit of controversy last week over Josh Vitters and my gut feeling hazing my views and opinions, I want to say that this week isn’t going to be any less controversial. Matter of fact, Villalona may cause me to say some nice things about Vitters and his game.

Here is my claim to fame – Caleb Thielbar. He lived kitty-corner to my house and we played basketball together in high school (which he hated, but was recruited to play division one in college). Either way, he was a two star athlete in Minnesota and went to South Dakota State University for four years and was drafted by the Brewers this summer in the 19th round.

In last weeks StU, I was asked about Brett Wallace because I mentioned/wrote that Yonder Alonso had the purest hitters swing in the 2008 draft, and Quintero mentioned that Wallace deserves part of that title.

Junichi Tazawa had his first professional start in America and got the win. He pitched 5 innings giving up only one earned run (and three runs) in the first. It took him 98 pitches, however, to get thru five innings. Following Grey’s philosophy on rookies, I would still hesitate to pick him up even for the higher win probability.

This past week was craaaaazy (yes, that is six, count them, six A’s) in all things baseball!!! The Pirates loaded up for the future, though this is nothing new, and stole Alderson from the Giants for a measly Sanchez (no sexual reference intended).

A few StU posts back I was asked to belabor the highly touted A’s farm system. With all fairness to the commenter, I was under the impression that the A’s had all their top arms up, and hitters too – let’s be honest they cannot hit water if it was raining out.
