@BSA: Smoltz will be covered in tomorrow's roundup. @Robert: I'd go with LaRoche. @Frogurt: I'd bench your sluggers against tough matchups (Manny vs. Wainwright today, for instance) and play hot bats. Not usual advice for earlier in the season, but at this point you need production.

New to FB here. Grey, your advice is top notch and kept this rook in the race! At this late point in the season when your sluggers (A-Rod, ManRam, etc) are barely giving you any production other than an occasional RBI and you’re seeing your HR #s plummet, do you ever sit em for a spell for a hot bat like CarGo or some of the other Buys on your blog? Shallow 10-team mixed where almost every hot bat you mention— from CarGo to Coughlan to Rajai– is available.

@Grey:Do you figure Mr. 2nd Half LaRoche stays hot? If Votto is out for awhile I could use a hot bat. Already picked up CarGo, thank you very much! I have 4 moves left with a week and a half to go. It is a long shot, but I could make the playoffs.

@Grey: Der! Sorry, the earlier comment re: not happy pitching to Tek – meant to say Martinez.

Either way they are chalking the hiccup to it being a last minute change and it upset the apple cart in Beckett’s world.

Whatever – interesting night for me watching baseball as I had and threw both Buch and Halladay.

I haven’t scrolled throught the day’s comments but what is your take on Smoltz?

Watching him in Boston and thinking about the possibility of going back to the national league as either a starter or reliever I think has some fantasy possibilities.
