The Brewers are second to last in the league in stolen bases. Macha is not giving Alcides the green light at all. If the Brewers aren’t going to utilize the talents of their young players fully, they should trade them.

I was leading in saves in my league so I traded a couple closers. Now Kevin Gregg has killed me and I’m losing ground quick. Who would be the top 2 or 3 non-closers you would pick up if you had room that might get some garbage saves when the closer isn’t available? Or anyone you predict will takeover a job?

@Tony: I'm not sure I'll be taking either of them next year given that I hate paying for pitchers coming off big years. As far as what round in a 14 team? Depends on your league and when pitchers start coming off the board but I think it very possible that the two put up similar enough numbers next year except for 30 extra strikeouts for Javy. And if you need those 30 Ks, draft Wuertz and Wandy instead of Javy and save yourself at least 5 rounds of value.

@Royo: I could see going with Wandy over Vazquez there. Maybe that makes me a Roymer? But my logic was he needs one pitcher that he can rely on. I'm a big Wandy fan if you've read the site. You know I own him all over the place. But Vazquez has thrown near 200 Ks for five straight years; Wandy's year is a lot more of an outlier than Vazquez. @Tony: I think he's still very young and can be a top 10 performer as of next year. He comes with risk though, so he's not going to be drafted that early obviously.

In my league we have to keep one player chosen b/w rounds 2-4. I put myself in a bind after trading Kinsler, I have to choose between keeping B.J. Upton for a 3rd round pick, and Carlos Quentin for a 4th round pick. 14 team league, no limit on how long we can keep them.

I know there’s still time to decide, but who would you choose at this point? I think I’m leaning toward Upton, but he has been disappointing even though he’s been healthy. Quentin has mostly just been disappointing because he’s hurt. . . .

On the bright side I have to choose four from the other Upton at 9 and Mini-Donkey at 17, Vazquez at 10, Wieters at 11, Wandy at 20 and Bourn, Carlos Gonzalez, and Rajai Davis at 22. Right now I’m thinking J Up, Reynolds, Javy and then we’ll see about the other. But anyway, who between BJ and Carlos for next year and beyond?

@Paulie Allnuts: 8 million for CLIFF LEE is what ticks me off, we had another year with him. You put one more decent pitcher with him and you have a shot at something. With him gone its back to square one. People dont want to pay to go see 7 guys in a line up batting .220 I dont know if they're "broke" or just being tight.

@Tony: The only problem is that the Mets can't buy a team anymore, as the ownership lost about 100 million in the Barnie Madoff scam. They do have a nice core, but nothing else, and their farm system is a joke. I don't know what happened to the Indians; they had a nice contender for quite a few years, and they always filled up the Jake. Why are they suddenly broke?

@Paulie Allnuts: most pathetic…. idk, i’d say the tribe…. overall the reds have good core, young, solid starting pitching they’ve just had some injuries and whatnot, the mets have been a total trainwreck with injuries, and they can always “BUY” another team and they will….

the indians on the other hand, the pitching has been depleted, two cy youngs gone in two years, grady is up for contract i wanna say in 2012? not sure, we did sign him for a while, i still cant figure why we let Cliff Lee go when he had one more year at 8 Mil???? DUMB!

Its just not looking good, La Porta could be a stud, our catching prospect is supposed to be a stud (hence why we dealt victor) but in the end pitching wins championships, and sowers, laffey, etc are NOT going to do it, we have about ten 3 and 4 type starters….

@Tony: Actually, it's over 60 years, second longest streak without a World Series after the Cubs. And they don't even have a Billy Goat, curse of the Babe, or a black cat to blame. They even got swept by the Giants in '54, having perhaps the greatest pitching staff in major league history.

It was all there and we had an AL championship locked up, just couldn’t get that last win vs. BOS, now its rebuild for 10 years again time. Its funny expansion teams like the Dbacks and Marlins have won the world series in Minimal time, yet the indians? They can’t put together a winner in 50 years!

@AL KOHOLIC: haha i’ve been to a couple reds/indians games…. The reds have a good young core, they just need to get healthy, as in not get dizzy, not have major starting pitchers get major surgeries, etc….

its been a rough year for alot of teams… I had to watch my tribe GIVE away cliff lee and victor martinez, and bring up the triple A team, not La Porta tho, No we wouldn’t want to bring up our best prospect (i know he’s up now, but at the time)

I like the reds crew overall, they have some talent, it just needs some time to develop….
