The Braves dumped Tommy Hanson and his salary for a free agent acquisition to be named later. Imagine the Braves get Hamilton. Heyward/Upton/Hamilton, zoinks! Although, they are more likely to get someone like Swisher. Or maybe they can land international free agent, Juan Jablome. Heyward, Jablome, Upton? “Screw you, I prefer B.J.!” “Okay, whatever you wanna call it!” So, Tommy Hanson’s value has sky-plummeted in the last eighteen months. He went from a one or a two to “Is his shoulder ever gonna be right again?” It’s not the worse gamble for the Angels, though I still wouldn’t want to own Hanson in fantasy. He’s not someone I would take a gamble on until I saw a good few months from him during the season, i.e., I won’t own him coming out of drafts. For 2013, I see his line being 12-10/3.87/1.30/169. Anyway, here’s some more offseason news for 2013 fantasy baseball:
Psych! Before we get into the news, I just wanted to announce that you may want to take a screenshot… Shizz is about to change. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge, kazoo. Okay, you’ll see on Saturday night (or maybe Sunday or maybe Monday or maybe a week from now or maybe…You get the picture.). Anyway II, here’s some 2013 fantasy baseball news:
Jordan Walden – The once-promising closer heads to the Braves. It’s the ol’ once-promising pitcher for the once-promising pitcher trade. I bet the Mariners tried to make it a three-way with Oliver Perez. Walden will further fill a stacked Braves bullpen with no chance for saves. Hey, the Braves trade Tommy to keep en-Hanson their pen. Oh, well, runner-up title.
Russell Martin – Signed with the Pirates for $17 million. That’s a disgrace to the Pirates, the world and money, in general. Here’s what money said, “I feel so cheap after Russell Martin got seventeen million of me. Geez, bloggers should get $20 million.” Thanks, money, but sadly no.
Mariano Rivera – Re-signed with the Yankees. At 42 years old, I don’t think he has what it takes to be a number one closer anymore. That’s because Kimbrel is so damn nasty. Rivera can be a top ten closer, no problem. Unless there’s a 50-something year old Yankee fan in your league wearing a Pags jersey at the draft, Rivera could come cheaper than he’s worth for the first time in his career. I could see owning him this year, and I think he’ll be as good as you need in fantasy. SAGNOF, after all.
Denard Span – Traded to the Nationals. Here’s where there’s a schism between real baseball and fantasy. This is an excellent real world deal by the Nationals. About as unexciting as deals get from fantasy. Span’s value doesn’t change in the NL. He gets a more productive lineup, so that adds about 10 to 15 runs, but he needs to stay on the field. Something he’s not always excelled at. For NL-Only leagues, he’s a nice late-round outfielder. For mixed leagues, he’s “Hey, Grey, Denard Span is on my waivers…Should I grab him? BTW, you change your hair? Mucho machismo!”

so at this point what do you think the Braves rotation is going to look like come opening day?
1. Tim Hidson
2. Kris Medlin
3. Mike Minor
4. Paul Maholm
5. Randall Delgado, Jair Jurjenns, Julio Teheran?
I’m rooting for Teheran…
@beardcrabs, Yup… 5. Teheran is my first guess… He could be a nice sleeper too… The Braves are the type of team though that could go out and get a Dempster type…
Heyward Jablome. Niiiiiiice…
@Reno 911, Ha… Thanks!
@Grey, Late start today? Usually I read your column/post/blog/whatever-we-call-it-thesedays with my morning coffee…
This is the 2nd post today, because there’s something big coming tomorrow (as mentioned in the PSYCH! segment)… I needed to publish today, site might be down a bit tomorrow for the PSYCH thing…
@Grey, sure enough. Usually when it’s your column, fantasyrundown.com has “razzball.com ‘provides their unique take on….” When it’s someone else’s column, they don’t. The Matt Adams column apparently was not a “unique enough take” for fantasyrundown.com. What’s up with that?
Damn, that’s some cold shizz… Ha!
also, do you plan on writing an article on Trumbo? if not what are your opinions on him? he was pretty frustrating to own during the 2H…
@beardcrabs, I’ll cover Trumbo in the new year… For sure… He was terrible in the 2nd half, but in the 1st half he was just lucky… He’s more of a .260 hitter…
Change!? Oh boy! Hope it’s good change. Don’t go making the Site all busy w/fancy interweb do-dads. I trust your judgment.
Love the Tommy Hanson move for the Braves. I wonder if they’ll look at Cody Ross at all? The move should be good for Walden too. seems like a guy that will be on and off my team a lot next year, filling in on slow days for some extra Ks… Mmmmm…. Ks
Yeah, I think it’s good change… You’ll be able to judge for yourself after 10 PM EST tomorrow… At one point, I talked in the post about who they might go after, but I erased it… Cody Ross and Swisher are my two best guess… Those are the kind of guys they like…
@Grey, Any chance Choo might be in the mix? With Uggla/Upton Ks in the line-up, they need a guy who can actually get on base.
Choo wouldn’t be bad for them… I agree, they have some good swingers, a good walker wouldn’t be bad…
what up grey: Can you rate these pitchers for a keeper league… I’m trying to make a trade to finalize my last keeper (10 team, keep 8)…
C. Lee
Y. Gallardo
J. Helickson
M. Moore
J. Cueto
(no particular order)
Lee, Moore, Gallardo, Cueto…
I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did
You last let your heart decide?
I can open your eyes
Take you wonder by wonder
Over, sideways and under
On a magic carpet ride
A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view
No one to tell us no
Or where to go
Or say we’re only dreaming
A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew
But when I’m way up here
It’s crystal clear
That now I’m in a whole new world with you
Now I’m in a whole new world with you
Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling
Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling
Through an endless diamond sky
A whole new world
Don’t you dare close your eyes
A hundred thousand things to see
Hold your breath – it gets better
I’m like a shooting star
I’ve come so far
I can’t go back to where I used to be
A whole new world
Every turn a surprise
With new horizons to pursue
Every moment red-letter
I’ll chase them anywhere
There’s time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you
A whole new world
That’s where we’ll be
A thrilling chase
A wondrous place
For you and me
