@chata: Have to admit: I’m a little perplexed by it, too. The move leads me to speculate that the Red Sox aren’t projecting Lavarnway as their future catcher, and that we might see him getting work at first base and DH with Pawtucket. He appears ready to hit in the big leagues, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see where he fits in defensively.

this shoppach signing is real bad news for lavarnway .
am not sure of the rationale .

care to explain or defend this signing ?

@Yeah: I try only to highlight guys who should be on your fantasy radar for the coming year. Bogaerts is 19 and will likely return to Low A Greenville to begin 2012. No doubt he’s an exciting prospect, but he’s a couple years away. Jacobs is much closer than Bogaerts, but he’s behind Brentz, developmentally. Even so, I like Brentz as the future RF in Boston.
