Trevor Hoffman has been lights out all year. Maybe he jumped in the Cocoon pool. Octavio Dotel? The post office said they’re going to a five day week because of cutbacks and the amount of fan mail coming in for Dotel. Now hold the preceding up to a mirror. Dotel as a Pirate has done nothing except plunder his fantasy owners’ goodwill. Even Roger ain’t Jolly. The Hoff looks drunk. And Trevor too. The pickups for this duo of dud is Carlos Villanueva, Joel Hanrananananan, Brendan Donnelly, Evan Meek, Hawkins, Coffey, Shelley Duvall, the guy at Subway that kinda skeeves you out, the Polish Sausage in the 7th inning stretch race and Cher. Pick them up in that order. For full disclosure, I grabbed Hanaranananan because Villanueva was taken in all of my leagues. I didn’t go deeper than that. Some shituations just aren’t worth the ulcer. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Garrett Jones – 2-for-7, 1 RBI. After his first four at-bats yielded 4 Ks, Robot really turned it on. Fool him 5 times, shame on Robot.
Andrew McCutchen – 4-for-7 and 2 homers for The Dread Pirate. Now has 3 homers and 10 steals as he bats .303. This might come as heresy, but The Dread Pirate could be a 3rd rounder next year.
Juan Gutierrez – Converted his first save. Qualls was unavailable even though he hadn’t been used in two days. I’m suspicious. And, yes, I’m wearing a monocle. Closers don’t just turn up unavailable in a one run game. There’s something here. I’d own Gutierrez over the Villanueva crapfecta that was listed in the lead-in.
Kelly Johnson – Hit his 8th homer of the year to lead the major leagues. I pushed everyone to draft this guy from the moment he was traded to the Diamondbacks. Where’s the love?!
Carlos Gonzalez – Hit his third homer and stole his third base. It’s weird, it’s almost like he wants to get to 20/20 in the same game.
Dexter Fowler – 3-for-6, homer and a steal. Love that, love the Rockies. I am Eskimo kissing my fantasy baseball team.
Chris Coghlan – 2-for-4, I don’t even like him, but he appeared in last week’s Buy/Sell as a Buy and he’s now hitting, like, .300 for the last five days. BTW, Rudy just traded Cody Ross for Coghlan in his NL-Only league. Rudy also traded in his Winger CDs for a previously worn Band-Aid. Doode’s a trading machine!
Jorge Cantu – 1-for-3 with his 5th homer as he took the lead in the National League in RBIs. He’ll be in tomorrow’s Buy/Sell on the right side, which is oddly enough the wrong side. Speaking of Sells…
Max Scherzer – 3 2/3 IP, 6 ER. Yup.
Brandon Inge – 2-for-5, 3 RBIs with a homer. He hits ‘em in bunches. Now has a bunch of three in the last 3 games.
Scott Baker – 4 IP, 5 ER, 12 baserunners. Last year, his 1st half ERA was 5.42 compared to 3.28 in the 2nd half. Maybe he just takes forever to get going. Whatever the case, I’d look elsewhere. Not that you need me to tell you, but Baker’s cooked.
James Shields – 7 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 12 Ks. Shields pitches well in Florida. He do what he do. In the preseason, I absolutely refused to own Shields because of his soul-crushing 2009. I figured I could get out without any regrets. Of course, Shields has pitched well and threw a wrench in those plans. Sonavawrench!
Jon Lester – Threw a seven inning one-hitter with 11 Ks. Last Friday, I wrote, “If (Lester) doesn’t bounce back this week, he’ll probably have the lead-in of the Buy section next Friday. Go and get Lester now!” Too late.
Jake Fox – Caught his 5th game yesterday. I haven’t talked much about him because he’s hitting .175 with one homer. Worth noting though in AL-Only and 2 catcher leagues.
Cole Hamels – 6 IP, 4 ER, 10 Ks, 13 baserunners as he took your WHIP for a ghost ride.
Ryan Madson – Blew the save and got the Win. Such a Cuddle Boy move.
Jimmy Rollins – Began a running program. The name of the program is, “J-Roll Rolls.” Some discarded titles were, “Hurry, Juan Castro Is Starting,” “You Were Drafted In The 2nd Round In Fantasy, Doesn’t That Mean Anything To You?” and “It’s Always Runny In Philadelphia.”
Luis Atilano – 6 IP, 2 ER, 9 baserunners. He has 5 walks and 2 Ks in 12 innings. Don’t even think about picking him up.
Matt Capps – Capps has been quite possibly the only closer to, ya know, convert a save all year as he picked up his 10th save yesterday. SPOILER ALERT: In next week’s Closer Look, Capps is crowned a Donkeycorn.
Ryan Zimmerman – Hey, I ain’t mad at cha, but how about you just go on the DL?
Jaime Garcia – 7 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 5 Ks. Now has a 1.04 ERA on the year. No reason why he shouldn’t be owned in all leagues at this point.
Mike Leake – 7 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 5 Ks. I’m not as bullish on Leake as I am on Garcia. Leake’s walks are a mess. Currently, he’s rocking a 18:15 K:BB. Rocky road ahead, use caution.
Ryan Dempster – 8 IP, 3 ER, 5 baserunners, 6 Ks. Now has a 2.78 ERA on the year. He’s been a tad lucky with men on base. (BTW, Tad Lucky would be an awesome male porn star name.) Dempster’s probably closer to a mid- to high-3 ERA guy. He’s no Carlos Silva, that’s for sure. Take that however you want.
Chris Young – Had his rehab start pushed back due to achiness. Uh-oh, someone call the giraffe doctor.
Robinson Cano – 2-for-5 as he hit his 6th homer and bats near .400. Not to totally flip you out, but this great April is coming from a guy who’s usually a slow starter. Yo, Big Chief Lambreaux, let’s start a parade!
Jorge Posada – After getting hit on the knee, Posada was lifted from the game by Girardi. Weird, cause Girardi doesn’t even look that strong. Posada will probably only miss a game or two.
Gordon Beckham – Got the night off to get his head straight. Ozzie announced the move on his Twitter account by saying, “Something stinks. Not fingers. It’s Beckham. He sits.”
Rich Harden – 6 IP, 3 ER, 9 baserunners with 5 BBs and only 2 Ks. Since you read Razzball, you probably don’t own Harden. Good for you, because even the starts where he limits runs don’t look right. If you can somehow confuse someone in your league that this was a good start, trade Harden.
Neftali Feliz – 1 IP, 2 ER and the save. This save actually makes me want to own Frank-Frank more.
Matt Kemp – In the NL, he’s tied for 2nd in homers with 7. He’s tied for 3rd in RBIs with 20. He’s batting .292. Why am I telling you this? Because yesterday Dodgers GM Ned Colletti said, “(Kemp’s defense is) below-average. If this is the last day of the season and people are voting for the Gold Glove, his name is not even on the ballot.” Yeah, he’s no ex-Colletti signee, Juan Pierre. What a putz.
John Ely – 6 IP, 5 ER, 9 baserunners, 4 Ks. He looks pretty average. Dropped about a K/IP as he moved up in the minors, which puts him around a 6 K/9 in the majors if the trend continues. His control should be better than he showed in yesterday’s game, but still he’s an avoid outside of deep NL-Only leagues. On the bright side, he has better hair than Dennis Farina.
Ike Davis – 2-for-4 with his 6th RBI and now is batting .355 since his call up. Maybe Ike is a slap hitter.
John Maine – 6 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 9 Ks. Well, it is blueberry season in Maine. I don’t buy this start. Have Maine call me in 2011 and I’ll reevaluate.
Jose Reyes – I was watching the Mets game yesterday and Pagan and Cora came up and then Reyes came up and I was like, “Where’s the pitcher between Cora and Reyes?” Interesting experiment, Mets. Now fix your lineup! I mean, I’ve heard of batting the pitcher 8th, but I’ve never heard of batting the bottom of your order at the top. Stop making me think there was a double switch in the 1st inning.

I’ve been meaning to post a critique of your preseason advice, Grey. Which forum would be correct? As far as Kelly Johnson goes, you did absolutely tell people to punt 2B and grab him late. Personally, my team has the benefit of Ubaldo and Price thanks to your drafting strategy for filling a rotation.
On an unrelated tangent, I think you’ve convinced me regarding the Rockies lineup. EYjr has an OBP of .400 in the minors. Fowler also has the OBP (but I still am not thrilled with his strikeouts). CarGo could be the Rockies version of Jason Werth, I suppose.
Grey also said hold F-Frank when everyone was cuckoo for cocoa puffs for Feliz…the Rudy trade was a Ha!
Also what was the “Pre-Season prediction” post titled?
Trade Garza for Beckham if I have Ubaldo, J. Sanchez, Hamels, Price, Slowey, Buchholtz & my current 2B is Kendrick?
Those Ike jokes never get old.
I love me some KJ! Drafted him in one league, snagged him off the wire in another.
I’d make a johnson joke here, but that’s not what I’m about.
Ike – Slap Hitter. Ha!
I am regretting choosing the Vegan Prince over Kemp in my Keeper League. And to think, I pondered that choice all winter.
That Rudy was able to pawn off Cody Ross for anybody is a coup.
It’s worth a Daquiri just knowing to pick up Kelly Johnson. I own him in two leagues, and am grateful. I also don’t own Scherzer, Hardin, and a host of other pitchers whom I learned to avoid at Razzball. Thanks
Who wudda thunk that Capps would ever be honored with Donkeycorn status? Can he make the $12 salad? Stay tuned
I know that you preach becoming a saves whore, but is it time to unload Dotel?
Crazy thought, but what are the chances the Rangers eventually succumb to giving Chris Ray a shot in the 9th inning? He’s been pulling some 7th and 8th inning stints lately, is looking a lot better than last year, and obviously has the past closer experience. Heck, at the very least the Rangers could put themselves in a good trade position, should he do the job and look good in the process.
Or IS it simply a crazy thought? hmmm
Grey when you say bakers cooked Do you mean you have no faith in him to turn it around?
Props on KJ grey, 2Bmen kept getting snagged right before me and a little voice in my head said “wait tony KJ will be there late, grey likes him, and everyone else has forgotten about him” and i did just that, waited, and now i’m reaping….
ALSO what do you think of this deal?
Morales(RP)/Capps for Josh Hamilton? ABtC?
I’m getting hammy. Already accepted, please rate it. And know that i’m still rocking Soria, Bell, Dotel, Wagner, and i snagged up Frankx2. So dealing from my surplus. 12 teams H2H 10×10, yes i went a little closer crazy.
grey, do you think getting ike and wuertz is enough to part with wagner?
On the Mets batting order- Jerry M. wanted to get J. Bay going so he thought batting Reyes third would get him more fastballs to hit since Wright was K’ing up the joint in the 3 spot. The only canditate for the 3 spot was Reyes.
The thing that doesn’t make sense is that Bay was already getting tons of fastballs….he was just swinging and missing (or staring) at them. He started off the year in a terrible slump (the type of slump he is prone to, it just looks worse when it comes at the beginning of the year and the team is losing every game). He was bound to snap out of it without any shuffling of the batting order. Unfortunately, his snapping out of it coincided with the batting order change and now everyone thinks Jerry is a genius for putting Reyes in front of Bay. Wright has also come out of his slump a bit since the change (which also was bound to happen without any order change). I’m afraid this order is here to stay until Beltran is back, whcih may not happen until 2011.
Oh, and since moving to the leadoff spot Pagan has stopped hitting. Maybe he could get more fastballs with Reyes batting in front of him.
Hey guys. 12 team 6×6 H2H with Losses and OPS 3OF 2Util. I was in need of pitching help and the urge to buy Beckett needed to be scratched. This is what ended up happening at about 2am.
I give injured Nelson Cruz and Jake Peavy for Dan Haren and Josh Beckett.
My OF is decently stacked with Werth, Manny, Holliday, Bruce, Soriano, so Cruz was somewhat expendable.
@MarkM: just resell haren in about a month…..
@MarkM: great trade for you. and i’m a big cruz fluffer. but you essentially traded an injured cruz for haren and beckett in my eyes.
so i have been in negotiations for lester. scared that he would do what he did last night, yesterday morning i started pushing to have a deal done and got it accepted about an hour before the sox game started. f’ing awesome. i now have a SP staff of lester, gallardo, ubaldo, garza, lilly, cj wilson, ervin santana, javy vazquez. thankfully i can afford to sit on vazquez until he straightens shiz out.
there are 4 OF’s im looking at that are free agents in my league, who do you like better?
krispie, coghlan, fragu, fowler.
also masterson’s owner just dropped him, he hasnt been great so far, think i should scoop him up too?
Parra, Hinske or Diaz – whick one to drop first?
I’m dropping one of these two to grab Villanueva…Latos or Cecil?
@black love: Krispie
12 team NL only, LABR style roster but no bench, year 1 of 3 year keeper
I’ve been offered Haren ($36), Y. Escobar ($19) and Edwin Jackson ($15) for Kershaw ($24) and Nolasco ($23)
Escobar would be replacing Ben Francisco as my UTIL when Rollins returns. I view my team weaknesses right now as BA, W and WHIP.
Not sure the extra salary is worth making the deal… any thoughts?
@black love: krispie and fragu should both be owned? 10 team league?
10 team 7 keeper.
Fowler or Podsednik as a 5th OF or possibly Util
@Grey: In a keeper format, who would you rather have between Mike Stanton and Dexter Fowler, knowing that my OF is already full and neither one would be starting (I’ve got Sizemore, Abreu, Rios, Quentin, Wells and Headley already)? I’m guessing this is a fairly easy question and the answer is Stanton, but maybe I’m missing something with this Fowler cat.
So it’s early April and I find my team overstuffed with closers: 6, to be exact, or one more than I can even start on any given night: Marmol, Rauch, Frasor, Dotel, FMorales and Capps.
Knowing I need at least one carousel spot on my team to grab the shiny new thing of the year, I can’t keep them all. It’s too early to trade so I just cut one loose. Eeny, meeny, miney, Capps.
I figure: Bad team, two shaky outings, suffered through his turgidness all last year.
I don’t mind being wrong, but do I have to be so spectacularly wrong?
I’ve since traded Rauch, dropped Frasor, grabbed Neftali, and last night dropped FMorales for Gutierrez. Dear Universe: I just need three of these schmucks to pan out. Just three.
P.S. Thank you for prodding me to draft Liriano and pick up KJ. And by you, I mean Grey.
Nice Treme reference, I like that show a lot.
Maybe Chris Brown needs to go and beat up on Ned Colletti so he would love Kemp. Thank god Torre doesn’t listen to him and starts hitting 8th again to “get him going.”
Should I drop Scherzer for Ian Kennedy or Gio?
@anon: lateral move. all give you good Ks, questionable elsewhere. no more than matchup pitchers.
Peavy or Harden going forward?
If you had to choose one.
@ron mexico’s papi: you’re not missing anything with Fowler. the answer is Stanton, all day, every day.
@RGP: Peavy. He has a much better track record.
@anon: I say keep Scherzer. I have Kennedy but would trade him for Max in a heartbeat.
@Grey – I saw your 2010 2B rankings and decided to punt the position by drafting Scott Sizemore and Ian Desmond… well my decision to punt was when I lost a game of Rickie Weeks-roulette and thought I could get him in the 15th round when everyone else had a 2B by the 12th round. Some rat bastard finally got him as a backup right before me.
Anyway, now I have Casey McGehee and Kelly Johnson holding down 2B… Here’s some love for you Grey!
Grey, would you drop Franklin Morlales for Juan Gutierrez?
@Grey – #2 inquiry this morning…
My pitchers are currently Johan Santana, Cole Hamels, Clay Buchholz, AJ Burnett, WandyWagon, Ervin Santana, Heath Bell, Franklin Morales, Frank Frank
I dropped Jaime Garcia for Frank Frank, but is Garcia better than someone say… Ervin Santana?
@William: it’s still early to say how good garcia is. i would try to own him, but the 2nd and 3rd times through the league might not go so smoothly. also, take out the 2 nyy matchups for ervin and his numbers are pretty damn good. there aren’t a lot of SPs out there that will struggle v. nyy this year.
@ThePoonTycoon: obviously i meant there ARE a lot of SPs out there that will struggle v. nyy this year
Great stuff Grey. Ulcer inducing shituations like not being afforded the convenience of dropping a Dotel in a league with a premium on closers, only further amplifies gastrointestinal issues with position players like Glass Chipper. We knew what we were getting into when drafting him, yet hoped for better than solid veteran production. With all early season indications indicating continued aches and pains and compromised stats, might you drop him on his hip for a youthful Smoak, or fellow vets like Blake, Rolen, or Glaus? & Thanks for the Thursday AM laughs/perspective.
@ThePoonTycoon: that’s a winning staff you got there….which is prolly a prerequisite for being a poon tycoon (unless you have a tongue like a belt sander)
@mc serch: chicks love it when you talk dirty about your fantasy baseball staff to them
Should I throw Matusz to the lions tonight or save him for a rainy day? Thats 2 cliches in one sentence-blecch.
Trade Hamels and Magglio for Cliff Lee?
I’m nervous about Hamels. His k/bb rate has been great, but he has been very hittable. Thoughts about Hamels in general and this trade?
I’ve been surprised in an ESPN 10 team roto league that Shields has so far been reduced to waiver wire grab. I want to grab him but he crushed my soul last year as well. Grey’s right, the guy’s a beast when in the Trop, but he scares me when travelling to Boston or NY. Would he make my pitching staff stronger over say a Kuroda or Dukesheer?
@The Dangerous Summer: not high on hamels, but i’d worry about lee’s injury lingering.
@ThePoonTycoon: my wife now says cust kayin’…….lol
There’s a very serious situation developing that I’d like everyone to be aware of. This morning, while driving in to work, I was listening to the local sports radio station. They went to break and the “radio voice” guy came on with yesterday’s scores and news. He mentioned the Pirates game…and….mentioned a 2/7 day by one Garrett “G.I.” Jones.
Now, mind you, it’s not a terrible attempt at a nickname. It kind of rolls off the tongue, it’s almost universally recognizable to baseball fans, and it does have a high badass quotient. BUT — it can’t be used by itself as shorthand (Compare: “Did you see that shot by Robot yesterday?” or “That G.I. has really been the shits lately.”), and it’s a waste of the G.I. nickname itself, who really ought to be saved for someone actually named “Joe”, not just someone with a name that sounds kind of like “Joe.”
@Tony: ha, yeah i drop razzball terms all the time. just rolls off the tongue, like robot jones, cuddle boy, kazaam, mini-donkey, etc.
I nearly spat my coffee out laughing at all of the Rollins running program names.
I have George of the Rose and J.A. Happ and room for only one of them on the DL. Should I just let Happ go, or consume a bench spot and wait it out?
@Tony: That’s hilarious.
Felt no love for my glossary term suggestion yesterday. Then I realized part of the post was missing. Conpadre: A San Diego pitcher you thought had a good enough matchup to start away from PETCO, but ended up fooling you with his clever ruse. i.e. Monday Latos, coming off a good start and facing The Fish who K a ton.
Flip Ian Desmond for Masterson or J. Garcia? I already have Alcides and Reyes at SS and McGehee/Phillips for 2nd and need a SP. The guy also has Colby Lewis, Pelfrey, and Camels, but he didn’t seem to like it when I tried to get Camels earlier.
@p0rk burn: desmond for garcia.
Who would you rather stash on the DL–Montero or De la Rosa? My catcher right now is Soto.
@Timequake: de la rosa. soto easily could have had the better year than montero prior to the injury.
If you have to drop one of these guys whom would it be? Gorzellany, leake, or Ian Kennedy? Or would trying to trade one of Em be a better option?
@Dave: leake’s BB rates are scary bad.
I’m thinking of selling high on Mike Pelfrey — what about Pelfrey for Hamels? I’m hopeful I could slightly upgrade another position in a 2 for 2.
In short, what do you guys expect from Hamels the rest of the way.
Hey guys, what do you think of this trade:
My: Zimmerman, Baker, Slowey
for
His: Liriano (or Nolasco), Kinsler and Prado
Thanks for the input in advance!
@fredaycouples: hamels should improve. his babip is like .360 and his HR rate is almost double his career HR rate (7 in 30 IP?!?! yikes). his velocity and K rates, and BB rates are good though. so yeah if you could get him for pelfrey i wouldn’t hesitate.
Chasing closers is fun. I now have 4 losers on my team, including:
Simon (BAL)
Parra (MIL)
Meek (PIT)
Street (COL)
Odds are Street comes out with the most saves, but who the hell knows?
My love for Cla Meredith is over, I only seemed to roster Gutierrez when he gives up 2 ER in 1 IP, and Villanueva comes and goes like that hot chick across the street that makes you water the lawn for 90 minutes hoping she’ll walk her dog in her short shorts the same time of day she did last week.
Got every bust in the draft (Rollins, Sizemore, AJones, Beckett, Verlander, Dotel, Reimold, CDavis, YEscobar). Anyway, enough bitching:
I’m sitting on Porcello and Ben Sheets. My team sucks in every way. Pick up Hanrahan and Jaime Garcia, drop those two pitchers?
fuck jake peavy
@ThePoonTycoon – During my draft whenever a closer or SB-guy (Rajai Davis) was drafted, I said SAGNOF.
Everyone in my draft thought I was pissed off…
@fredaycouples: if you can get someone to give you Hamels for Pelfrey, do it. Hamels’ K rate and walk rate are both really good, so I think the rest of his numbers will come around.
@ Everyone
I want to know who it was that was hating on Lester. I challenge him to a duel. I must warn you though, I am not left handed.
What, realistically, can we expect from Chase Headley the rest of the way? Someone sent me an offer for him (JJ Hardy) which I don’t like, but I’m not sure if I want to trade him to this guy at all.
I need power hitting, but he won’t trade Adam Lind (keeper league, Jays fan) and the rest of his power consists of Ryan Ludwick, Jorge Cantu, and… FraGu…
Do I drop any of Dotel (4th closer), Ervin, DelaRosa or Pelfry for this Jaime Garcia gentleman? Alternatively I could drop Webb b/c I don’t have the DL space. That would give me a few weeks to make the decision on Garcia before DelaRosa comes back?
My closers:
dotel
morales
gonzalez
Should I just drop/give away dotel and morales and try my luck with douches like villanueva, gutierrez and simon
In other news, Pat Tillman’s ghost threw a no hitter in Norfolk. Err, I’m now being told it was actually the alive and well Chris Tillman. Possible call up this week but more likely to be Bergessen, with Tillman coming up later on in the year.
I’m considering dealing Haren because I’ve got a huge number of SP’s. He’s got by far the most value but he’s also the only proven guy. Would a staff of Nolasco, Price, Sanchez, Liriano, Slowey, Pelfry, Jaime Garcia, DelaRosa and Ervin be good enough to compete if I pick the right matchups? (1400 IP max)
Would you want Fowler or Krispie playing CF for you? Team needs for speed/power are about even.
@uncdrew — it’s ok, we’ve all done that.
@uncdrew — thanks buddy.
@CoreyII: krispie is the better combo of speed/power, plus he’s probably a better bet for PT, fowler is only seeing time right now due to injuries….
Grady Sizemore was just droped in my 10team h2h league. drop anyone for him?

@uncdrew: To quote Grey: Ha!
@CoreyII: Krispie! Or you all not believers yet? Were you scared off by the ten bad days? Do you know he hit .440 last week? With a bomb, a swipe, and 6 ribbies?
I was going to gin up The Kase for Krispie, but I thought everyone was already konverted.
In summation: Krispie!
@Bodymore: Eh, not a fan of dead soldier jokes.
Rich Harden – 22/23 K/BB ratio in 24 innings is now in good company
Ted Lyons – carreer BB – 1121 K – 1073
Hey Grey, forgive me if you’ve done this elsewhere lately, but do you mind ranking the HodgePadres #1-5 (or 6, counting Young when he returns)? Home starts only. Do you see a significant difference among Latos, Richard, and LeBlanc?
I dont agree with the way Coletti came after Kemp but I watched that Mets/Dodgers series and Kemp was completely loafing it out there. The problem needed to be addressed, probably by Torre and in-house but someone had to let him know.
RE: Reyes. I think Pagan, Castillo, Reyes batting 1, 2, 3 has been effective. Pagan is very solid at the top. Castillo is an ideal 2 hitter. Hits to the situation almost without fail. Reyes’ line drive / gap hitting can clean the bases in the 3 hole. It also makes the lineup deeper with Ike all the way down at 7. (Agreed, it does look messy when Cora is in the 2 spot though)
@Fresh: Definitely. Maybe Pence?
Looks like this has been touched on in this post…but in a bubble (not a Buble, because that would make things a little weird):
Ludwick or Krispie?
@knighttown: I would hang on to Haren and deal one of the less proven guys off to an incredibly hot start (Pelf?). You need an anchor in case some of those guys go tits up.
@keith: Get rid of Dotel, but hang to Morales. He hasnt been that bad…
[smallsamplesize]
Just noticed Smoak had another 2 BB’s last night…kid has 7 BB’s in 6 games, in 22 plate appearances. He’s batting .067 and still has a .348 OBP. Who’s the last kid to exhibit this kind of walk rate?
[/smallsamplesize]
@Mark but let me guess, the holocaust joke the other day was just cheery!
If anything, I’m honoring PAt Tillman’s memory by even mentioning his name. It’s the sort of thing thats going down the memory hole.
@uncdrew — I see I might have started a pattern of schizo behavior on here. Sweet.
ha – I made this post in my 20 team dynasty keeper league – I had 4th waiver pick
Kyle Drabek
Posted by: the keeper
he is now in negotiations with The Keeper to be The Keeper’s next superstar pitcher
Re: Kyle Drabek
Posted by: Buckeye Nate
Hmmm. Not real smart when you don’t have the #1 waiver there Keeper. The key to trash talking is always talk after you win, not before you even pick up the player.
My money is on Daddy getting him ahead of you.
Re: Kyle Drabek
Posted by: the keeper
The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isoceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side. The Keeper always gets his man! – he said I was not too smart
Re: Kyle Drabek
Posted by: Buckeye Nate
Yaz, they both have better waiver spots, but do they know that Drabek has been put in the pool? I’m pretty sure Daddy does.
Oh and the pythagorean theorem is for fags.
inside information
Number 1 – I did not want him but kind of hope to bring attention so maybe the teams ahead of me might draft him so I move up
my post worked so well that everyone thought I was drafting him and no one put a waiver on him – I still don’t want him – I already have 2 NA pitchers on my staff Madison Bumgarner and Martín Pérez
@Bodymore: This isn’t the place to debate it, but I missed the holocaust joke so I can’t comment on it one way or another. We see this differently, I don’t see a flippant reference to a dead soldier’s ghost as “honoring [his] memory.” If you want to discuss it further, feel free to email me at mgeoffriau AT gmail.com so we don’t clutter up razzball further.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Ha. Thanks. As a true believer, would you rather have him than Headley in your OF?
@Grey
Whaddya think? LeBlanc worth a Hodgepadre start vs. The Brewdogs today?
Time to give up on Edwin Jackson?
For a 6th starter (can sit him for bad matchups): Hughes, Garcia, CJ Wilson, Colby Lewis, or Lilly? I’m holding Hughes at the moment and he’s been ok, but I think it’s mostly because of a lucky BAA. 18/11 K/BB isn’t exactly hot fire.
God it felt great getting rid of McLousy!
I know it was you, Nate-o. You broke my heart. You broke my heart!
@Terrence Mann: Cool
@Tom Reale: The one where I pick the Dodgers to win it all and they look like the Mets West? Not sure.
@Ryan: I wouldn’t.
@DrEasy: Hehe
@Steve: Nice
@Paulie Allnuts: Ha, thanks. Can’t drop Dotel yet.
@AJ: I actually was thinking that before Feliz stepped in, but they’ve ignored him for whatever reason.
@Mikey boy324: I have little faith it’s a quick turn around. As I said, I’d look elsewhere.
@Tony: Nice… Great trade. I’d take Hamilton there, for sure.
@giantJJ: I’d want a bit more or give a bit less.
@Schlitzy: Yeah, and Frenchy, Ike and Barajas are the bottom of the order right now.
@ThePoonTycoon: Nice! Surprised the other owner didn’t drag his feet just to see how Lester would do last night.
@black love: Krsipie… If you own Masterson, you shouldn’t start him next time out.
@Mr. Rickey: Hinske
@Ron Washington’s Stache: Cecil, if you can start Latos at home.
@Senor Smoke: Eh, I’d hold.
@timSTi: Pods for straight steals… Fowler otherwise.
@ron mexico’s papi: Stanton’s fine.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Oh, Baron.
@Malacoda: I’m not sure how I feel about it yet.
@Nate Marcum: True
@anon: Eh
@RGP: Peavy
@William: Nice
@GopherDay: Nope
@William: Nah
@zombie: No problem…. I’d hold for now., unless it’s a 10 team league, then I’d just drop Chipper.
@mc serch: Ha
@ThePoonTycoon: Ha
@Lob Ball: Bench him.
@The Dangerous Summer: Not crazy about it.
@Mark Geoffriau: I think Robot is ridiculous, makes little sense and funny. That’s a win-win-win for me.
@Tony: Ha
@Will: Thanks… Lose Happ.
@Jake in Columbus: It’s not terrible, but it didn’t make me laugh.
@p0rk burn: Garcia
@Timequake: dlR
@Dave: Leake in a non-keeper. You can’t get anything in a trade for them, can you?
@fredaycouples: I’d take Hamels.
@Professor Chaos: Not crazy about it.
@uncdrew: Ha!
@Dansteamsucks: Go for it.
@PaddyTwoTimes: Ha
@dsimon: I’d take Ludwick or FraGu if you’re playing Headley in the OF. If he’s at 3rd, then they don’t help you.
@knighttown: Trade someone to free up a spot.
@keith: Nope
@CoreyII: Krispie
@knighttown: Yup
@Fresh: Lose Baker.
@Bodymore: Yeah, could be.
@mrbaseball: Ha
@Van Hammersly: Not much difference. Latos has more upside, Richard could be the best.
@NoEmoJoe: Yes, Cora makes it look wonky.
@Wilsonian: Ha! Krispie
@Mark Geoffriau: Nice HTML
@mrbaseball: Nice
@El Famous Burrito: Sure, at home.
@Todd: I gave up on him in November.
@3matt: Hughes
@3matt: I’d rank ‘em Lilly, Hughes, Wilson, Garcia, Lewis…
@3matt: i’d lean lilly. obviously not the upside but at a 6th starter/matchups guy he’s a stable vet who isn’t gonna kill you, and his velocity is fine after the shoulder surgery.
@Grey – My “bullpen” now consists of Heath Bell, Franklin Morales, and Frank Frank
If any of the “speculative closers” end up getting the job (Juan Gut, LaTroy Hawkins, etc.), do I keep Morales or Frank Frank?
Basically, who do you see being the better SVs guy over the next couple of weeks at this point… Frank Frank or Franklin Morales?
Would you trade Gallardo for Werth? Current rotation is Felix, Gallardo, Burnett, Billingsley, Danks, Harden, and C Young.
Grandy vs lefty Matusz or Bruce vs Oswalt?
@William: i’m grabbing frank^2 where i can. he was universally dropped when feliz took over and looked sharp, but with feliz struggling now, he may get the job back.
@3matt: Hughes…he’s given up 6 hits…for the year
I took Bartlett and Beckham ahead of Ian Stewart. Go ahead, have at me.
@Grey: I was lauding your hold F-Frank advice. No, not that one. The one were Kershaw wins the CY. I keed. My pick was Ubaldo. Cust Kayin’.
@Grey: 10 team 7 keeper, bench, 2 DL.
Currently have Rollins, DLR, Montero, Wood, + Cruz on the DL/Bench.My RP situation stinks in Dotel, Marmol, + Morales. If I have Napoli as my catcher is Montero droppable to free up a spot to snag Gutierrez or Villanueva? Frank^2 is was recently snagged so my league is semi up to speed. One other razzball reader so I know he’ll jump on the SAGNOF chance soon enough.
Which Baltimore pitcher do you like more: Tillman or Arrieta?
I’m sure I missed this somewhere but what’s the scouting report, prognosis for continued success this year – on Brett Cecil. I know he’s in the dreaded AL East but the league I’m considering him for is deep – albeit with limited waiver claims.
@Tom Emanski: Beckham will be fine. Maybe if I post it, I will believe it too.
@royce!: Were you the guy who was going to give the NFBC a whirl? How is your team looking?
Drop Scott Baker for Jaime Garcia right?
@Grey: No mention that Lincecum got Greinke’d by the Beach Boy?
Oh, and funny comment on the Mets.
FYI
@Rotoworld_BB: C. Jones -3B-ATL: Chipper out of Thursday’s lineup http://tinyurl.com/b45mw8
Is it worth trading for matusz or wade davis?
Someone in my league just traded Greinke for Kuroda/Polanco. Doesn’t look like it’s going to get veto’d. dkl;sfjgkl;dfgj;kjdfg;kdjs;df
Grey,
This was the deal I ended up making:
Sabathia, Hunter, and Pavano for Zimmerman, Morgan, and Wolf
Did I end up well here?
@William: Frank
@NoEmoJoe: Yup
@Kazmere: Bruce
@Tom Reale: Ha… It is still early though. But yeah… *hides*
@timSTi: Don’t own two catchers.
@GTS: Tillman
@Jif & The Choosy Mothers: Yeah, I’ve liked Cecil, but the matchups won’t be great. He was in the last Buy this past Friday:
http://razzball.com/pacman-jones-primed-to-go-galaga/
@GTS: Sure
@crews: Thanks
@timSTi: What else is new?
@Todd: Nope
@keith: That sucks.
@pwire: It’s okay.
In a Wins only league would you take Kershaw, Zito, Danks, or Garcia?
@Grey
“Kelly Johnson – Hit his 8th homer of the year to lead the major leagues. I pushed everyone to draft this guy from the moment he was traded to the Diamondbacks. Where’s the love?!”
Posted April 26th – “Paul Konerko – Hit his 8th homer yesterday as he takes the lead in The Battle For Best Value From A Draft Pick That Everyone Yawned At. Vernon Wells is a close 2nd.”
Kelly might lead but Paulie got there first.
@Grey

@Grey In a H2H league that counts holds. Need to drop a middle relief to free up room. Drop Okajima or Jeremy Affeldt? My thoughts was Okajima as Bard seems to be the primary setup, but Affeldt has been lackluster on the holds I picked him up for.
great now I am a n00b.
@Jake: Kershaw
@Wiley: Affeldt
@whiteblackred: Ha
@Grey: I like hammy for two closers, especially when storen is there if capps decides to crapps, and Morales already has street coming back soon… plus i just added Frank frank? i’m still loaded.
Where does Jim Johnson sit with respect to Gutierrez and Villanueva? He’s been so painful to watch on my team. But I’m not sure if that changes with these other guys.
@Grey: I never own 2, but I did have room on my DL for Montero until my team fell apart. I could drop a bench player (venable) and stash both Gutierrez and Villanueva. Smart move or just grab Guti? My RP sichiasun isn’t pretty. Morales’ clock is ticking, along with Dotel’s. Wood isn’t even a guarantee when he returns. It’s a 3 RP league so I’m losing ground fast.
Trade jason Kubel for Kelly johnson? i have polanco at 2B now and kubel is on my bench, but i can use the runs and HRs from KJ… is that a good trade? my kubel for his kelly johnson”?

Rangers manager Ron Washington said that Frank Francisco will continue to get save chances along with Neftali Feliz.
“Frankie has the experience,” Washington said. “We haven’t given up on him. Tonight was his night. If tomorrow is Frankie’s night, we’ll put him in there. We’re going to do what we need to do to get three outs. Hopefully Feliz will be ready but tonight was Frankie’s night.” Francisco notched his first save of the season on Tuesday and has a 1.29 ERA over his last seven outings. Feliz is still considered the primary closer, but he has yet to show the ability to close in back-to-back games, leaving the door open for Francisco moving forward. Keep an eye on this situation.

OF + UTIL of Kemp, Markakis, Bruce, Bourn, Pence, Rajai. Need to make room for Kinsler tomorrow. Rajai has been better this season, Pence has been better lately (plus Rajai losing time and talk of platooning worries me). Who would you drop?
Also, Carlos Gomez is in the FA pool. Crazy to consider dropping both Rajai and Pence to pick up CarGo and activate Kinsler?
@timSTi: Copy n pasted the wrong blurb. Here’s the updated one:
Rangers manager Ron Washington insisted that he is sticking with Neftali Feliz as his closer.
“Yes. What’s changed?,” said Washington, after Feliz struggled through a save opportunity on Wednesday night. Though Washington expressed confidence in the young fireballer, it’s unlikely he will go with him on back-to-back days after his blown save on Monday. It won’t do much to help the burgeoning controversy, but look for Frank Francisco to get a save chance if the Rangers have a lead.

What do you think about trading Krispie for Jaime Garcia? I have too many bench OFs.
@Awesomus Maximus: Drop Rajai. Hold Pence.
@Tommy: come september i would bet $1000 that kubel has more HRs than johnson.
Last week I said Maybin owners beware, I just picked him up and he hates me. You need proof? 5-30 12 K’s!
@polczek5: He’s in front of him in pickups.
@timSTi: Grab Gut for now.
@Tommy: Sure, that’s fine.
@timSTi: Thanks for the heads up!
@Awesomus Maximus: Drop Rajai, forget Gomez.
@GTS: That’s fair.
Grey: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/04/29/miguel-olivo-passes-kidne_n_556864.html
What the hell is Mike Cameron’s problem?
@ThePoonTycoon: Yeah, but his eligibility isn’t as good.
@Awesomus Maximus: ugh, don’t drop pence for carlos gomez. drop rajai to make room for kinsler.
Start Arroyo at Houston today despite his recent suckage?
@p0rk burn: Ha… Yeah, not sure.
@NukeLaDouche: I wouldn’t own Arroyo until after the ASB.
@ThePoonTycoon: i bet you 1000 poop dollars KJ has more!
@Tommy: @ThePoonTycoon: Kubel’s bench HR’s aren’t helping anyone. KJ is an upgrade over Bobble Head.
I really want to trade for Cano, but I have Brandon Phillips in like every league because I loved his draft position.
Now I’m not so sure. I think every player I drafted in every league, except for Ubaldo, is a slow starter.
@Grey: just seems if you need the HRs kubel + polanco = more HRs than johnson + polanco.
now if you don’t want polanco period, and wanna bench or waive him, then yeah, that’s fair. which upon rereading appears like what he’ll be doing.
@Tom Reale: @Grey: @ThePoonTycoon: Thanks guys. Follow up question (need a quick response if possible!):
Rajai’s “news” is that he’ll be in the starting lineup on Friday, but says nothing about today. Pick up Gomes just for a spot start today, then drop him to make room for Kinsler tomorrow? Gotta’ do it within the next 15-20 minutes.
EDIT: Gomez… not Gomes.
@Awesomus Maximus: sure
@Lava: I hear you there. I have Wright, Kinsler, Bruce, Hamilton, Hamels, Borbon, Reyes etc. Hanging in 6th in my roto league, but it sure would be nice for some of these guys to heat up a bit.
Please throw out a few bats I could target if I deal Haren or Haren + Lindstrom? In a vacuum.
Pick a side:
Hanley/Grandy 4 Prince/Nelson Cruz
last post @ Grey/all
Anyone’s thoughts, comments, etc. on Mitch Talbot? Is he for real, flash in the pan, worth an add over Lowe in a 16 teamer? I know his Ks leave something to be desired, but he’s been solid otherwise.
@Josh Hamilton: Please don’t get hurt like you do every time you start hitting well. Oh, and another homer would be peachy.
@mauledbypandas: oh and for the love of god, stop swinging at the low and away slider.. jeebsus!
@tHe ShiT: hanley/grandy
Utley/Andrew Bailey/Hamels v. Jose Lopez/Broxton/Verlander
Which side?
All else equal:
Greinke or Marmol/Rasmus?
Think its obvious but wanted to double check…
@tHe ShiT: depends on need. Hanley and Grandy will both turn it around, especially once Grandy learns that pop flys to 1B in Detroit are bombs in the wind tunnel of Yankee Stadium. Also there’s always the risk of Cruz being out with moans over his hammy for longer than expected.
@Howie Met Your Mother: Utley/Bailey/Hamels
@mauledbypandas: Ha, JUST ACQUIRED HIM…. dont worry he’s going to be great now, i own him, and i’m lucky….
@Howie Met Your Mother: Utley/Bailey/Hamels
Ill be getting Hanley/Grandy. I need some OF help, so I can move Zobrist out of SS 2 OF with Hanley arriving. The Hammys of Cruz scare me 2, and for that part all possible injuries that Cruz can incur…
@Tony: I’m drinking the cool-aid this year. Go Rangers!
i still think the dotel crisis is overblown. both of the big blowups were in blowouts. in this game he gave up a double to ryan braun, which can happen to anybody, and then a grounder up the middle which all observers seem to agree somebody should have freaking fielded. maybe i’m making him pitch worse by issuing these confident proclamations, but i’m holding.
@tHe ShiT: if I were you, I’d click accept then…
I’m trying to convince the guy in last place of our 12 team H2H team to give up either Utley or BJ Upton. He has no pitching and wants to get JV off me (I already have Felix, Lester and some other junk). I’m trying to pawn off Heyward and JV and something for one of his two guys with no luck so far…
i currently have mcgehee, beckham, kinsler and uggla on my roster and was thinking about offering kinsler and beckham for longoria or reynolds (both on same team) 12 team h2h mixed league with obp would i be crazy in offering this or is it somewhat fair
blackburn, carmona, clayton richard, or piniero to spot tomorrow?? thanks guys
@knighttown: Top 3 rounders and above.
@adamh: Greinke
@More Hawpes Please: Sounds fair.
@and1mcgee: Richard
@ Grey:
Dude countered my offer with Hanley/PacMan/Broxton 4 my Prince/Nelson/Gallardo. I don’t need his closer so I countered that with his Hanley/Grandy 4 my Prince/Nelson. Thoughts?
@wily mo: It has been 6 in a row, not just 2 kazaams. That being said, I’m holding too.
@Grey: oops, richard is rostered. who is your second choice, grey? thanks.
@Grey: Dude, this is my second season reading your blog and that was the funniest heading I’ve ever read on hear. Cereal all over my keyboard.
Also, What about giving love to your fav from late last year Kevin Correia on his performance of late?
yippee ki yay mother*****r!
@tHe ShiT: I’d take Hanley/Grandy there.
friend forwarded me this sweet ian stewart highlight reel
http://abclocal.go.com/wtvg/video?id=7405211
@and1mcgee: Carmona
@Rick Dempsey: Thanks! Didn’t Correia barely get out of the 5th with 4 earned?
@tHe ShiT: yeah, wouldn’t have doen that first deal. you’d get the best player, but you’d be giving up the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best players.
@wily mo: That’s awesome!
@Grey:
Kelly J’s for real, and he just seems built to hit at Chase Field, I definitely can see 20-25 HR’s. Still a bit mad I didn’t listen to you about him but 2b has been such a problem child for the Dbacks I was inflicted with undeserved pessimism about KJ.
@Grey: I’d like to offer a retraction. I only saw the four straight wins, and just assume by default that the Pads only score 2.5 runs : \
@wily mo:
Mini-Mini-Mini Horsie!
@Tom Reale: I also think Hoffman will have a long leash and “New House” has extreme cuddle tendencies.
@Tom Reale: true, giving up runs six straight outings isn’t exactly encouraging. but the team’s won every game he’s pitched in except for the two blowouts, which really helps hold off the role-change pressure from the fanbase. pitching for the pirates also does that.
Who do you deem most expendable out of this group of vomit?
McClouth, Fukodome, or Alexei
Are any of these guys worth rostering over any of the above?
Jose Bautista, DeJesus, Luke Scott, Corey Hart
@Grey: What round hitter is fair for Liriano right now? I know it’s a bad time to try to acquire him, especially in a league where people <3 pitchers beyond belief, not me of course! 10 team keepah!
@sean: Nah, that wasn’t me. And based on how my roto teams are doing so far, I’d say that’s a good thing.
@ Grey/ThePoonTycoon:
Yeah i feel wut ur saying. Thanks 4 the input.. cross ur fingers 4 me. Oh by the way: the offer 2 another manager 4 his Lester is still lingering. Don’t know why he hasn’t declined it after his gem last nite. I think he’s waiting 2 how Zimmerman comes back 2moro… tick-tock-tick-tock 10:51:47AM
@Grey: @ThePoonTycoon: Wow… realized after I posted it how ridiculous my question was. “Which of these SAGNOFs is a better 1-day investment?” Not even A.J. Mass possesses that much clarity of foresight.
@Everyone – what’s news with Carlos Quentin?
@Grey: Which side ya like better in a 12-team, roto 5×5:
Hughes/Rausch/Hamels vs. Josh Johnson/Jim Johnson
Thanks in advance.
@wily mo: Agreed. Pirates have nowhere else to turn. One of the reasons I drafted him in the first place.
@Grey: gun to your head: Smoak or Ike Davis?
@William: Whattaya mean?
@Elijah: 20 might be the peak, but yeah…
@Rick Dempsey: No worries.
@Eddy: Hart over McLousy.
@timSTi: Maybe Quentin or Jones… If not you, why are you going after him?
@William: He’s a slumping hitter that homered yesterday, not sure what you’re looking for.
@Dad: Hamels side.
@tHe ShiT: yeah, i got a deal for lester done yesterday afternoon. my slowey/duchscherer/konerko/maybin for his lester/weeks.
i’ve got rollins, cruz, and bedard all hurt (and only 2 DL spots), but all are supposed to be back in the may (i hope ::crosses fingers::), so i am preemptively clearing some roster spots.
@sean: Smoak
Time to squeeze what you can out of Madson. Reports out of Philly are that Lidge gets activated tomorrow.
Should I send off Raphael Soriano for Carlos Quentin?
@Falcon: ABtC
Kershaw @ Bucs
Romero @ Oakland
Both must starts, ya?
@TheEvilEmpire: Yup. S’what you drafted them for, no?
@Grey – carlos quentin was starting but was pulled from today’s lineup before the game started
not that a self-respecting razzballer would own him, but did jurrjens get hurt? only pitched 1 inning and 14 pitches, so seems a little drastic to pull him after giving up a 3 run bomb but that’s what gametracker says happened.
@Grey: @Dad: @William: ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — White Sox right fielder Carlos Quentin has been scratched from the starting lineup before Thursday’s game against the Texas Rangers.
The White Sox said Quentin had a strained left hamstring about 30 minutes before first pitch.
dammit… strained left hammy… grrrrrrrrr
@ ALL:
fyi Jair Jurrgens strained his left hammy in the 1st inning. He’s been pulled out…
@ThePoonTycoon: ST. LOUIS (AP) — Atlanta Braves starter Jair Jurrjens strained his left hamstring and has been replaced after the first inning of a game against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Jurrjens allowed a three-run home run off the right field foul pole to David Freese in the first inning Thursday. He retired the first two batters before hitting Matt Holliday and allowing a single to Colby Rasmus.
Kris Medlen replaced Jurrjens in the second inning.
@grey & anyone with an opinion: Was just offered Grady Sizemore for Jared Weaver in my OBS and QS 5×5 league.
My biggest need is OF and his is SP – he is my toughest competition. My other starters are Felix/Haren/Nolasco/Liriano/Lilly/CJ Wilson/Fister (damn near killed her). OF are Kemp/Hamilton/G Jones/Borbon/Hart.
Is this a no brainer or is Sizemore toast? I think I need to strike while the iron is hot. Thoughts?
@sean:
That’s the same Quentin I was afraid to draft this year.
@William: Carlos Quentin was scratched from Thursday’s lineup against the Rangers with a strained left hamstring.
@William: Ugh… Yeah, hadn’t heard that. Damn.
@dean: I’d take Sizemore.
@dean: do it
hammy 1-1, get processed trade!
@Grey:
I keep waiting for Austin Jackson to go into a slump but its not happening. I think I’m just gonna ride the horse til it gets tired.
Would you do liriano for Billingsley? I’m worried about liriano’s injury history
@Elijah – that’s what she said… all night long…
@Everyone – Doesn’t Kelly Johnson’s yahoo! pic look like he just woke up from a full night worth of drinking?
@cubbies299: I own Billingsley and would kill for that deal
@cubbies299: @NoEmoJoe: yeah dude, aim higher. maybe you could harp on kershaw’s BBs and go there? but you are underselling with a offer for bills.
@ cubbies299:
U can get much better for Liriano rt now, TRUST ME! And if Bills is all u can get, hold onto him until someone budges. Try 4 a Verlander or Lester if possible, though its prolly 2 late 4 Lester.
@dean: Gotta’ go with Sizemore.
Real windy at Wrigley, should be a fun game.
@ William, All:
Yeah it looks like Kelly’s had quite a few brews… Look at Kubels pic, he looks just like Turtle 4rm Entourage : ) I don’t even call him Kubel anymore.
@cubbies299: Do you currently have Liriano and someone offered you Bills, or vice-versa? If someone just offered to give you their Liriano for your Bills, accept that shizz pronto. If you’ve got Liriano and you’re worried enough about an injury to trade him, aim higher… way higher.
Just got offered Big Tex for David Wright. That’s a no brainer, right?
@ Big Nate:
Make sure ur smiling while clicking accept!
Slowey for billingsley?
@Big Nate:
It is if you have another 3b.
@Everyone – Is Grady Sizemore a good buy low target?
@cubbies299: pretty lateral move, and when it’s a lateral move i usually prefer to stay put.
Ian Kennedy looks great today, getting ahead of hitters and making his out pitches with 2 strikes.
@tHe ShiT, @Elijah:
Trade accepted. Now moving McGehee from MI to 3B. Damn – it feels good to get Wright and his Carl Crawford-like stats away from my corner infield.
@Elijah: Yeah, it’ll come. Maybe not today, maybe not next week, but it’ll come.
@William: Ha
@cubbies299: Slowey
@William: Depends what you’re giving, as always.
@William: I traded Grady last week for Adam Jones and Lester. I was happy to see him go. I still have him on a big money team and he doesn’t look anything like the Grady the ladies loved.
I have the MLB package, so I watch quite a few games, and I haven’t been impressed by his at bats. He’s pressing. His lone hit last night was off the humpback liner variety. He’s not driving the ball at all and he has no lineup protection other than Choo.
@Big Nate:
Basically you got Tex without the April…thats a top 5 player for the ROS most likely.
@William: I think so, just dont overpay. Pay for 6th or 7th round production. Not 2nd or 3rd.
Call me crazy but I’m giving Baker another start @ home.
@Grey:
It’s the RCL so he has no trade value. Hes hot, Damon’s hot, Miggy’s hot; I’ll figure out a replacement when the time comes. For now, hes SAGNOF.
@Big Nate: I thought the move was Wright (CI) for Tex (CI). Who was your first baseman before (where Tex is now)? I may be in the minority, but I don’t like McGehee long-term as a corner…
I offered the guy my Alfonso Soriano straight up for his Adam Jones… maybe if he turns that down, I might offer Soriano straight up for Grady Sizemore. I’m trying to see if I can get anything for Alfonso before he starts to struggle.
What do you guys think about dropping beltran off my bench (only 1 dl spot which goes to webb) in a 10 team keeper to stash stanton?
@ Grey:
Thoughts on Freese now and the season going 4ward? He’s hit a lot of singles so far but has a 2b and hr 2day… I remember some experts saying he could b a breakout candidate preseason.
A little bit more on my newest mancrush, Justin Smoak.
Among players with 20+ plate appearances, Smoak is 1st in the majors in walk rate, and has the 2nd worst BABIP. I can’t link directly to those stats, but if you go to this fan graphs page, you can sort by BB% and also by BABIP.
http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=20&type=1&season=2010&month=0
Smoak just went yard!
Gracie@tHe ShiT:
Sweet! I knew the paitence would pay off.
that ball was (pinkie to eyebrow) smoaked
@tHe ShiT: Crap, on my bench because I didn’t see the Quentin news in time.
@ Sean
Currently have Headley at CI and Billy Butler at 1B. Have been playing McGehee at MI while Kinsler has been on the DL. Now will move McGehee to 3B, Kinsler to MI and have Tex in my UT.
But to make this work, I have to drop an OF that is currently in my UT spot. Who should I drop from my garbage outfield?
Ryan Ludwick OF $8
Alex Rios OF $17
Jeremy Hermida OF $10
Seth Smith OF $10
Nyjer Morgan OF $10
Kyle Blanks OF $1
I’m leaning to either Hermida or Blanks.
@Beau: Go for it.
@tHe ShiT: Eh, he doesn’t have that much power. If he’s hot, then own for now.
@tHe ShiT: About time.
@Grey:
3 hit day for KJ. Gracie effusing. Wishing Id streamed Kennedy.
D-Backs goin 2 town on Lillypad
@Grey:
Teixeira/DeJesus/LaPorta for AsdrubCab/Markakis/Damon/Scherzer
Legit return on Teixeira or a stupid trade?
@PureBwa:
I dont like it unless you are desperate for OF.
Tomorrow’s headline, today: Smoak ‘Em If You Got Him
I hope Morneau goes on the DL so I can pick up Smoak.
@PureBwa: stupid trade
@Baron Von Vulturewins:
Hush, I need Justin healthy. Why would you wish for that?
2 HR day for Adam “2nd Half” LaRoche.
This just in, Josh Hamilton is raking.
Zito against Colorado Friday?
@mauledbypandas:
He’ll get hurt soon enough, don’t worry.
@Elijah: Nice
@PureBwa: I’d want Tex.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Ha
@mauledbypandas: Yeah, he’s hot. Finally.
@Casadilla: If it’s in San Fran.
@Elijah: My team is going to be dominant if Cano and LaRoche continue raking in the 2nd half. I have this terrible suspicion they are just reversing the order of their suckitude, however, and will both bat south of .230 after the All Star break.
@Mark Geoffriau:
Arizona is poised to be a top 3 offense in the NL this year. They have power up and down the lineup and its making pitchers scared to throw strikes. Cano’s a yank, even if hes just so-so he’ll pile up counting stats; he could be the #2 2b off boards next draft. I like both guys going forward.
@Grey or anyone…
What are your thoughts on starting guys who have been on the DL? I’ve got Cliff Lee and Ian Kinsler coming off the DL, as I’m sure a few of us do. Do I just assume that if they’re healthy they’re golden, or they might need an adjustment period a la Jose Reyes two weeks ago?
@dsimon: kinda depends on your options i think. if you are trotting scott sizemore out there at 2B and getting no production you should switch asap. but if you grabbed mcgahee off the wire and he’s doing a good job of filling in then maybe you give kinsler a few games to get settled, especially since he hasn’t played at all this season.
should I sell my soon to be off the DL players? I have been offered CC Sabathia, Shane Victorino, and Ty Wiggington for Kinsler and Lidge.
5 Ribeyes for LaRoche.
@CoreyII:
I would take that.
any chance this is the laroche everyone has been waiting for, not just a second half player?
It was very nice of the Twins to do their part in maintaining the fragile mental health of Dontrelle Willis.
@Elijah: I’ll take healthy. What I don’t like is day-to-day, oh-my-back-is-stiff, put me in for two ABs wait actually I’ll sit, thanks. This is like Dizzy Votto ’09 all over again.
@Baron Von Vulturewins:
I dunno about that. It’s cold in Minny this time of year, and Morneau was due for a day off anyways. Pinch hitting isnt the same as having to play 1b all say and bend over to scoop up throws.
Btw, 3 run HR for Kelly. 25 HR”s still not thinkable Grey?
Take that, Konerko!
@Grey – did you just bust your left nut after seeing Kelly Johnson’s line?
which of the randys do yall like going forward: wolf or wells or travis?
I heart Kelly Johnson.
That is all.
Drop Smoak for Adam Laroche?
I thought that today’s line would decide it for me, but now saw that Smoak hit a HR as well…
@William: Ha
@ThePoonTycoon: Travis, Wells, Wolf…
@royce!: Sure
@royce!: depends needs. if it’s for a bench/upside spot and you aren’t relying on them for immediate production, go smoak, but if you need a guy to plug and play right now, laroche. though today’s bomb could be the start of something for smoak.
@nick m.:
I think he can get 30 HR’s pulling balls into the short RF porch in Arizona.
Raise your hand if you thought Paul Konerko and Kelly Johnson would be duking it out for the ML lead in HRs on April 29.
Sadly, KJ is now morphing from “FA pick-up I ride then sell high” to “FA pick-up I fall unreasonably in love with and clutch to bosom all year, despite .222 average post-May.”
dayum K-Jo
with Jurrjens pulling up lame. Just added Medlen. During spring training you said this would happen. It Happened!
With Kelly Johnson holding Kinsler’s spot warm, I guess I could always try to trade one of those two.
Either way, my Util spot is going to get a boost with Kinsler back
Kel-Jo has replaced my ENTIRE offense. Posada, Zimmerman, Furcal, Morneau are all hurting…but Kel-Jo keeps my team together with his 4/5 performance including his 9th hr. ridiculous.
Paulie now has 9 HR fyi.
@Bodymore – I hear you. My other 2 guys going right now are Soto and Soriano and they have done nada.
I have Prince Fielder, Matt Kemp, and Curtis Granderson going tonight. Casey McGehee isn’t playing today which sucks cause he’s en feugo too.
Man, I’m tempted to drop Baker for Ian Kennedy…seems a bit early to panic on Baker though.
Ding dong the pitch thrown to Konerko is dead… Could he hit 40 this year and bat .280??? Let’s not put him in the 2010 Fantasy Baseball Hall of Fame just yet… but he is certainly carrying my razzball team right now. Need some opinions about this trade:
Josh Hamilton and Heath Bell
for
Jacoby Ellsbury
@Grey: And of course big ups to you, Grey, for pushing a Johnson on us.
I passed on Pujols for $61.
I passed on Utley for $52.
I passed on Tex, and Miggy and A-Gone.
I got Kelly Johnson for $3 and Konerko for $2. Who knew a fiver could get me the MLB leaders in HRs.
I’m in second to last place in a 12-team league. I rule.
@Grey – My mission now is to find a girl named Kelly Johnson and engage in various forms of relations with her… then I can say “I have a crush on Kelly Johnson” and not feel gay.
@Elijah: I’m trying hard to move Action Jackson, but no one is buying. That’s cool. Let the kid hit. It’s a deep league, so just about anyone hitting lead-off is going to have value.
I’m surprised though. Even guys with crappy no-hit OF’s like Rajai and Stubbs don’t want Jax. I thought the Stubbs guy was going to bite (Jax + Gregg for AJ) but then I suppose my trading Stubbs to him preseason, has left a bad taste in his mouth.
I suppose it’s a good example of why it’s good to trade for fair value. If you don’t, people don’t like trading with you again.
@Steve – Grey not only pushed, but he shoved, and slapped a Johnson all in our faces.
Let the good times roll!
Yo Grey, I got probably what’s an insurmountable lead in ERA and WHIP and wins (H2H) right now. Not that far ahead in Ks though.
Should I start Kershaw (vs. PIT) and/or Romero (vs. OAK) tonight? Or sit on my leads? I hate playing not to lose but these great match-ups can put the nail in my opponent’s coffin.
2 HR for konerko! YOUR MOVE KJ.
I own Snyder, Kelley Johnson and Adam LaRoche all on one team. What’s the opposite of a ticker tease again? Yeah, I’ve got that right now.
BOOM!!! Konerko hits another… WOOOOO!!! (Noise after the Boston Bruins score a goal)
take that kelly johnson owners!
i traded konerko with slowey and duchscherer for lester and weeks yesterday. at least i have konerko through the end of the week in my lineup. now i am starting to wonder whether i should have pushed someone else in for him instead.
Ian Kennedy just got Fukudomo’d. I guess I’ll keep Baker for now.
Does anyone have an MLB Gameday Audio subscription? I’ve been toying with the idea of buying one, since its only $10. That or the iphone app, but… its $15 and service often sucks.
@dsimon: Nope, but do your research before buying. I bought MLB.tv last year so I could watch games at my desk and it was terrible.
Kelly Johnson is the best Kelly to don a glove since Kelly Leak.
Dantiel Stange called up to the Dbacks. If he pitches well he could be the closer sooner rather than later.
@Mark Geoffriau:
That HR was an out in every stadium other than Wrigley with the wind blowing out, wouldn’t hold it against Kennedy.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Ha, so true.
@uncdrew: Ha
@Mitch: I’d start Kershaw.
@dsimon: Ha
@Ian: Ha
@Mark Geoffriau: Yup
@William: Ha!
@uncdrew: Ha
@Elijah: Hmm… You think so? I don’t know.
(In other words, those of you Holding Guiterrez are probably wasting your time, hes a Cuddleboy)
@Elijah: The homer itself doesn’t bother me that much, it’s putting 3 guys on with no outs (yeah, I know an error was involved).
sonofabench Smoak, you better do something tonight Votto. Don’t give me that dizzy, depressed, stubbed toe routine.
Smoak adds an RBI double.
Starting to feel pretty pumped that my 2-for-1 Kelly Jo and Cantu for Longoria offer got shot down with a quick, and seemingly painless, “hell no”…
jenks with 3 Ks and only 0.2 innings pitched right now. don’t see that every day.
I’m up to three Gray Ha!s. My work here is done.
For today.
@Grey:
He was a closer in the Minors. None of the pitchers on the Dbacks staff are closers or should be closers, Qualls has always been a short reliever shoehorned into closing because of seniority. Closing is a state of mind, just ask Gregg.
And he just had a 1-2-3 9th.
D’oh. Gray, Grey, Tomatoes, Potatoes.
Sorry for the typo.
@William it is called a man crush…embrace it.
I have Granderson going tonight too, hopefully he comes alive again, my team needs it. Morneau won’t be back before the weekend,
Here’s an injury update on my day to day guys for any co-owners that are interesting:
Posada was hit RIGHT on the fibular head which is going to complicate his injury. It is part of the tibiofibular joint, which is put under stress when catching (running too, but much more so squatting)…and theres still a possibility that theres a small fracture. This is a fairly unique situation, so who knows? Good times!
Zimmerman’s injury isn’t serious but it could still take a while (at least it should as they can’t keep running him out there until he’s 100%)
They say Furcal simply has a hamstring strain, but often those can result from lower back problems. Who has a history of lower back problems? Furcal, that’s who.
Morneau’s back is fucked. ‘ Mid oblique stiffness’ … the dude swings a big stick and has had rotational problems so I am concerned to say the least. Lets just leave it at that.
So, Kel-Jo is a ray of light on an otherwise Hurricane Katrina like fantasy week.
@dsimon: I’ve got the Blackberry App…it’s pretty solid if you’re on the road often, as you can pick up any and all radio broadcasts, and the service through Verizon is pretty strong too. I don’t really use it for much other than that because it’s a battery hog, but it was worth the $15.
@Elijah:
I agree with that Jack. Wind aided.
The bigger question is why is Kennedy still in there? Fantasy Baseball Aside. Young arm at 96 pitches and an error to start the eigth. Get him out with some confidence and a win.. Put the new Triple A schmo in there to close it out… Silly, silly, silly. Save the bullpen my ass. This kid will last longer than the bullpen.
and it’s a good think i sat G. Floyd. Dayum.
@artie:
The Bullpen was totally gassed after giving up 20+ runs in 2 days.
@Elijah:
I know, but they brought up an arm today I think. And really, it doesn’t matter. You don’t allow 23 year old rookies who are going to be your #2 in 2 years sit in a game like that. My opinion of course
I use the android MLB At bat app. It is awesome, only b/c it provides a unique service…theres occasional drops but it reconnects. Live Video like the iphone has is sorely missing…but I love being able to tune into any game virtually anywhere
@Wilsonian: In that person’s defense, that is a definite “Hell no” trade offer.
@uncdrew: Ha! (bonus ha).
@artie:
Stange threw the 9th.
@Elijah:
Yes, I know. He should have come in in the 8th is all I was saying…. Especially after a 7 run inning… It’s a long time to sit after 7 innings.
Anyway, not really important.
@Elijah: With an eight-run lead.
@ Grey:
Alrite seriously, wut is Kel-Jo’s ceiling now that his April closing with a huge bang. Is he this years Aaron Hill and ride him all the way or a strong sell-high to dump soon?
@Baron Von Vulturewins: oh yeah, I totally expected to get a “hell no,” but you never know when the guy you’re attempting to deal with is riding Clint Barmeseseses’s worthless ass at second…I’m just saying that at present time, I’m not really all too upset about it. I’m sure Kelly will eventually break our collective hearts anyway.
@Baron Von Vulturewins:
I know, just was responding to “Put the new Triple A schmo in there to close it out”, which they did, just maybe 1 inning too late.
@tHe ShiT:
Funny. I just emailed a buddy 5 mins ago.
“KJ thinks he’s Aaron Hill circa 2009″
I’d hold.
@Wilsonian: Good idea, but I’d package Hot Kelly with some middle-rounder with name recognition, like Adam Dunn for a first-round stud like Longo.
Oh, wait, I just did that, shopping Liriano/Dunn for Longoria. Also got a “hell, no.” Then again, the owner in question has Longo tattooed on his backside, and that’s very painful to get removed.
P.S. KJ has now hit more HRs for me (6) than any player I own, and I’ve had KJ for one week.
Redonkulous!
Grady Sizemore just hit the waiver wire in my 10-team H2H league. I have the number 1 waiver priority, and I’m wondering if I should blow it on Sizemore, or sit tight and wait for someone else to drop. Is he gonna turn it around, or what?
Thoughts?
@Lines: If you don’t pick up a second round player who’s struggling, you need to hand over your fantasy baseballer club card.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: funny thing is, I have Dunn in that league as well. But I don’t think he’ll give up Longo for 2 reasons: 1) he was the lucky WW winner a couple of years ago, which lead to the tattooing of “Longo” on his right ass cheek; and 2) this is a 16 team, H2H, 5 player keeper league, which significantly ups Longo’s overall value.
I’d personally use my #3 waiver position for a fun size bad of Cheetos, so Sizemore seems pretty good. But I’m afraid he might suck. Tough one.
@Lines: You have to pick him up. No question. How many other guys on waivers have the upside to give you five months of first round numbers?
@Elijah: Anyone else have opinions on this deal? Kinsler and Lidge vs CC, Victorino, and Ty Wigg?
@CoreyII: I’d take the CC side…don’t trust Kinsler and Lidge to stay healthy. If it’s a keeper league, I would have to consider what other options I had that were viable keepers.
@Wilsonian: Good question. It is a keeper league. Kinsler can be kept next year in the 3rd round. No one else will be worth anything keeper-wise.
@tHe ShiT: He could get 20 homers and 10 steals. You got him for nothing, I’m assuming. I’d just ride the Johnson. Hmm… Well, you get my meaning.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Hehe
Mr Kennedy – I seen enough – 7 strong innings – I quess he lost it in the 8th but he should be owned for sure
what is your take on Simon Says – Alfredo Simon – does he have the stuff to be a closer or its a desperation move
@mrbaseball — In terms of minor league K rates no, but he didn’t pitch 96-97 in the minors either, he clearly amped it up for the 1 inning performance. He was pretty nasty when he got his save, and it would have been a lot cleaner if izturis didn’t boot a standard weak ground ball. Would be interesting to look at more data from starters -> relievers to see if there’s any basis for what I’m saying
@mrbaseball: Desperation
Victor Martinez just hit the waivers in my league. The guy that runs the team is the most impatient owner ever. Worth the number one waiver though? I have Wieters.
Kelly Johnson – if I was you I would get his rookie card before the price goes up
Hey Grey – general strategy question. How many starters do you generally carry is a standard 12 team league? I always see you mention that you grabbed . When you say that, am I correct to assume you’re talking about dropping a bench position player? I ask because when I see you write something like that, I always think to myself, “self, who would I even drop on my roster for that schmohawk?” For instance, I like having an extra starter to spot start for good matchups and as insurance in case one of my main 5/6 starters goes down, and wouldn’t want to drop him for the prospect of possible saves in the future. Is that stupid?
Kelly Johnson BOWMAN DRAFT rookie card lot (20 count)
Buy It Now $8.99
WOW thats 20 cards for less than 9 bucks
@Grey:
Who’ll have the better year down the road?
Aardsma or Bell?
Sorry – I messed up that last post. Here is what is was supposed to say:
Hey Grey – general strategy question. How many starters do you generally carry is a standard 12 team league? I always see you mention that you grabbed [insert random set up man who might get saves at some point here].
@NukeLaDouche: Grab V-Mart
@mrbaseball: Ha
@Eddy: Bell
@Art Vandelay: I rarely have bench hitters. Only in 18 or 20 team leagues where waiver wire guys are scarce and even there, it’s rare. I would and am currently carrying Smoak as a bench hitter, just in case. I usually carry middle relievers that are the first to go when I have to pick someone up. So I have Hanranananan and Gutierrez on teams. Dotel records a save or Hanrannanan or Gutierrez gives up runs, they’re gone. I carry 7 SPs usually, that number fluctuates though.
Greinke/Hughes/Rauch or Pablo/Latos/LeBlanc? Pablo would be upgrading CI, with RoboJones currently holding it down…I’m thinking it’s not enough, but my average needs a boost and I have pretty solid pitching depth
@Adam: I wouldn’t do it.
@Grey: A perusal of the last 7 days’ numbers indicates that KC’s sunshine band (Pods and Guillen) are starting to cool off.
Give ‘em til the end of the weekend?
@Grey: Somewhat along the lines of what Vandelay was asking…But in a ROTO league, how far around the Innings pitched rate do you want to stay? In one of my leagues, I am about 50 innings above pace…should I stay that course, or just kind of not worry about it til later?
@Steve: I’ve got Guillen…Time to drop for 5th OF waiver SCHMOK? (sp?)
Okay, I just noticed Yahoo has a new picture for Hanley…He looks like he’s on drugs!!!
http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/7488;_ylt=Arexe1JjWsrchW1qJgLydzkRvLYF
grey…time to pick up austin jackson or what?
what about alfredo simon? you like him? or naa?
would you trade utley and something for teix and cano?
if so, what would the something have to be? (In a keeper)
@pjtres: What do you have? If the other guy wants a 1B…what 1B could you offer…
But yeah, what Grey said, still 100% desperation for a desperate team.
@grandysdandy:
It was time to pick up Jackson about a month ago, now you probably are just getting the tail end of a streak.
@gopher day
i have miggy, ad laroche and helton (we have 2 util slots)
didnt know if it was foolish to give up utley for canos hot month…or if this was the start of superstardom!
“I believe in Chad Qualls. He has a long track record of being good, and I don’t think he’s not able to get three outs in the ninth inning. I think he will come out of this.”—Arizona manager A.J. Hinch, in support of his closer.
Is Wandy Rodriguez a fair return for Konerko or should I am higher in light of Konerko’s hot start?
@KarlJ.:
aim higher
@pjtres: Well don’t trade Miggy…see if you could get LaRoche. Don’t give up too much.
@ gopher day,
but do you think the logic is sound? or would you hang tight with utley?
@pjtres: In this case it really depends on who else the guy gets in return. You may be able to give him LaRoche if he is fed up with Tex. Tex is a huge 2nd half player, so if you gave Utley and LaRoche for Tex and Cano, I think you win that trade. If he is wanting a lot more than just Utley then i would hold tight.
@Anybody: have Frank Cord, Clippard, Bard, Alfredo Simon, 16 Team H2H league, no holds but Ks/9…what be your take on dropping Simon for a Talbot or the Hodgepadre Leblanc? Or should I ABtC Cordero for a starter or a bat and punt saves right out the door?
@Grey: Chipper and Cain for Youk? I’m not liking it…I don’t own Cain anywhere, what are your thoughts on him?
Wandy scratched from his Friday start with back spasms. Could pitch Saturday.
@Steve: Yeah, through Sunday.
@GopherDay: 50 is about as high as I’d want to go.
@GopherDay: Ha
@grandysdandy: I went over Simon in yesterday’s post. Jackson’s fine if you need speed.
@Schlitzy: Thanks for the update!
@KarlJ.: Probably do better.
@Wilsonian: Don’t punt saves. I’d go with LeBlanc over Simon in that league.
@GopherDay: I’d take Youk
@Mojo the Helper Monkey: Thanks for the heads up!
Grr Wandy. I guess this means you sit.
@Grey: Do you like Ian Desmond or JJ Hardy going forward?
@ Grey:
Alrite the guy countered with Hanley/PacMan 4 my Prince/Nelson. Pull the trigger and accept or still try to pry away Grandy in PacMans place???
20 Team Mixed League. Travis Snider on Waivers. Should I drop one of these for him? Kyle Blanks, Justin Smoak, Dexter Fowler, Austin Jackson
What happened to Dooksheer? Out of the game with injury. Headed to DL?
I knew Snider would homer when I dropped him today. Blurgh.
@Bob: just in time to blow his two start week…. left hip injury is all I read.
@Grey: Richards tomorrow home against The Brews or Morrow home against Oaktown 357?
I’m up big in W but everything else is close. He has Felix, Bills, Weaver & Niemann going this weekend against my Slowey & Buerhle. I’ll probably lose K (even if I do grab Morrow), but I may be able to win ratios and steal QS.
Or should not even bother trying to get another start, sit Buerhle against The Yanks and hope my ratios hold and instead grab Brignac who’s looking like ’10 Zorilla?
@Bob: @sal: I was watching the game, left hip injury, Didn’t look good, he was in quite a bit of pain when he delivered his last pitch, which was a ball. DL visit is likely emanate given his history with hip issues.
@GopherDay: Desmond by a smidge, unless you just need power then Hardy.
@tHe ShiT: Grandy
@Combo: Can lose Blanks.
@Bob: Prolly
@3FingersBrown: None are great starts. I’d probably just throw everyone.
@BKK: Yup
@Grey:
Who wins?
Aardsma for Wandy
@BKK, @Sal, @Grey: Drat. I stepped out for a minute and I came back and he had been bombed and was gone. It’s too bad. I had him on two teams and he looked great, even right before the injury.
Would you make this move in an OBP league: Votto & McGehee or K. Johnson for Tex?
@Grey: What the fingershnizzle is with John Buck??? 3 frickin homers!! Would you drop Jaso for him? Jaso’s been doing great also.
Morneau seems ok: “Hopefully I’ll be good to go tomorrow,” Morneau said, according to the Star Tribune. “I don’t know, we’ll see how it goes tomorrow when I get to the field and start swinging and stuff. Felt better yesterday than I thought it was going to when I woke up. Today, even better.”
@Grey: New offer from the other guy…Greinke/Hughes/Rauch for Pablo/Dotel/Borbon still not worth doing? I don’t really need Borbon in my OF, unless Willingham falls off before Ellsbury comes back
someone makes John Buck piss in a cup!!
Ugh. Buck is my catcher on my Razzball team.
between Cruz, Zimmerman and now Quentin I have never been more, er, hamstrung by a single muscle before
@Grey:
How about giving Konerko getting back Price?
Ticker tease! Snakes score 13 runs. Mini Donkey 0-3, Krispie 0-5. Merde!
@Eddy: Wandy
@Bob: Yup
@Mojo the Helper Monkey: It’s a bit much, but it’s fair.
@GopherDay: I’d own Jaso.
@Elijah: Thanks for the heads up!
@Adam: No, but do the deal if you like. You know your team better than me.
@Dr. Orlando Schadenfreude: Ouch
@penpen: Ha
@KarlJ.: I’d prefer Wandy.
@Grey: @Grey: All this happened because Rudy announced that I was in first place today. I can’t believe it, he frickin jinxed me.
grey..since i asked above, cano hit 2 more HR’s lol
so you think in a keeper good move to move my utley&beckett for his cano and tex
@Dr. Orlando Schadenfreude: Rudy’s master plan. Sorry.
@pjtres: I’d take Tex’s side.
@Grey: Richard just got grabbed. I’ll make my decision based on what LeBlanc does tonight. I may hold off on Morrow and roll with Chacin on Sunday against SF.
I hate to do it, but I think I have to drop Madson. Just can’t afford to have 4 RP with 3 slots anymore and he’s been awful anyway.
Brignac looks to be running with the 2B job and everyone loves MI’s with pop. Plus he gets to see KC all weekend.
Effing Astros. Where was this offense earlier?
Kershaw walks the leadoff guy, shocking.
15 pitches, 0 outs. Lovely.
for the love of hey-zeus, please get out of the 1st inning with no more than 30 pitches thrown clayton
@eltoo:
Nope.
ugh…….i hear the pirates are underrated? ….i’ve got nothing
Podsednik, Borbon, Morgan, Fukudome, Colvin, Fowler, Maybin, Pierre? I need a CF and all I have to choose from is a bunch of booger eatin morons. Which one looks the most filling to you?
@NukeLaDouche: Morgan tops that list for me.
is no longer whining about kershaw’s BBs (until the next one), keep the Ks comin’
@Grey: Brignac, Desmond or DeJesus
I need runs this weekend. I drafted Desmond originally, but had to let him go. Brignac’s playing great and DeJesus does what he does. Keeper league, so I’m thinking Brignac in case he busts out.
@eltoo:
He’s still losing to some scrub.
@eltoo: @Elijah: Nice touch for Kershaw to draw a walk himself.
@Steve:
Indeed.
Grey,
You crack me up. The giraffe doctor line almost had me pissing my pants…hahahaha
Bostonbeerman
So much for shooting for 2 walks.
bottom falling out on Weeks right now, not looking pretty. Something like 17 k’s in last 6 games
Peavy got dropped in one of my leagues. Drop Romero or Slowey for him or hold?
@I’m Keith Hernandez:
Hold both those guys over Peavy.
Oh Doug Davis – it had all started so well.
Dodgers getting outplayed by Pittsburgh in LA. That tells you about where they are at right now: worse than the Pirates.
@Steve:
Um…I wouldn’t roster DD.
@Elijah: After Latos and Dotel’s adventures this week, I’m in full-on stream mode in my H2H league.
Thought on trading Bruce/Scherzer for Adam Jones?
@Steve:
Ah, gotcha.
I spent my first 4 or 5 picks on hitting and my hitting been sucking while my pitching been solid -
@Awesomus Maximus:
seems kinda a push.
ok example of hitters taken in 14 team league – for some reason its just not working
Margaret White – team name
1. (6) Ryan Howard
2. (23) Ryan Zimmerman
3. (34) Curtis Granderson
4. (51) Adam Lind
5. (62) Adam Jones
I’ll take things I don’t want to hear Vin Scully say for 800, Alex
” and the first pitch from Kershaw, ball one. “
Sizemore( artist formerly known as Grady) + Bills + Leo Nunez for Votto/David Price
I am trying to get something for grady, is this a good move or too much?
@I’m Keith Hernandez: feels like giving up on Bills/Sizemore too early and hoping Price is for real. I would be scared to do it just on the chance that either of those guys figures it out. Lot of baseball left to play.
@I’m Keith Hernandez:
Good move. Votto and Price look like top guys this year. Grady could bounce back but why deal with the headache.
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Position doesn’t matter? Needs don’t matter? I’d take the Votto side.
@Awesomus Maximus: nope just trying to get maximum value for grady
Last chance for a W, C’mon ya Bums.
oh god, Kershaw is going out for the 7th. This will end in tears. My tears.
and he walked the pitcher. Great managing Torre. Put your golden armed future ace out there at 109 pitches for the 7th.
@mauledbypandas: And he walked the pitcher…
@I’m Keith Hernandez: You’re looking for max value for a struggling Grady, to be more precise. I only point out that fact because I don’t think that’s a smart play. Odds are he heats up at some point, so even if you believe his overall season will be a bust, you have to believe he’s (at the very least) talented enough to put together a hot streak at some point or he wouldn’t have ended up on your roster. I say wait for that to happen, then trade him for true maximum value. But if you don’t want to wait for that, you could do a lot worse than Votto/Price.
Stewart for the wandwagon or Carpenter? I’m thinking yes, as I have weeks to back him up and brandon wood’s on waivers
@cubbies299: I’d take Carpenter for Stewart in a vacuum… but it depends on needs as always.
@cubbies299: If you’re in need of an SP, I could see going for Carpenter.
Any Met fans still awake? Who’s likely to get the call first in a Hold situation – Feliciano or Nieve?
@Awesomus Maximus: I am looking for max value before Grady potentially goes off a cliff. Seems like he may still be hurt, cause man he is bad now. Not sure what to with him.
@3FingersBrown: Brignac
@Awesomus Maximus: Too much
@mrbaseball: They’ll come around.
@Steve: Nieve
@I’m Keith Hernandez: I hear ya’… but I’m holding him in a few leagues and seeing how it plays out. Had a Run, RBI and SB in yesterday’s game (even though he went 1/5). Just can’t imagine bailing on a guy with his talent this early. But, like I said, you could do a lot worse than Votto/Price if you do decide to bail.
@Grey: Yeah, figured you’d say that. I’m wondering if Jones can come close to his projections even if he does his part, given the mess dem O’s have turned into… not to mention the fact that Roberts’ sitch seems to get bleaker with every news update.
663
@Grey: am i giving up to much or is awesomus?
Anyone know if Dotel is available/unavailable for this possible save opp coming next inning? Had to drive 4 hrs. back and forth for a wake this evening, so I haven’t been able to keep up on all the detailed news.
@anyone
Is Jim Johnson still getting the call or is Simons? Or are they just doing the whole committee thing?
@Awesomus Maximus: Dunno. He’s thrown a few pitches the last two days. Two innings yesterday and a lot of pitches to get one out the day before…
@Awesomus Maximus:
Not watching the game but I’m on MLB’s gameday waiting to see who comes out. I’ll post anything here asap.
@Steve: Yeah, that’s why I thought there might have been some news blurb one way or the other. Can’t seem to find anything.
So let me get this right, the Dodgers are being progressively outplayed by the Reds, Nats, Mets, and now Pirates? Who’s left, the Astros?
@Eddy: whoever was warming up, it wasn’t dotel
Anyone know why Rajai was only able to get in one AB today?
@Awesomus Maximus: It’s Meek.
@mauledbypandas:
@Awesomus Maximus: @Steve:
Evan Meek is the 9th inning guy
maybe he can Meek out the save, heyoo
Guess not… Meek FTS.
@mauledbypandas: Apologies for repeating myself, but the Pirates don’t get many saves, so the Meek has inherited the dearth.

@Eddy: Check back tomorrow night for an answer.
@Steve:
Ahem.
Anyone been watching Rickie Weeks at the plate? He’s been striking out at an alarming rate.
It’s probably a temp job.
@DrEasy: Meek, that is.
@Eddy: Geren has been sitting him since the 25th… in a corner, I’m assuming. He’s supposed to be back in the lineup tomorrow.
@Steve:
Argh, I hate reading when manager’s say that. Well I’m rostering both Dotel and Meek right now. Even though it’s the bottom part of the Dodgers offense, he hasn’t looked bad (at least through gameday).
@Awesomus Maximus:
I’m aware of that, but he actually started today’s game. Not sure why they’d take him out so quickly.
Rajai had 2 AB’s: K and a BB, and an SB…
@Eddy:
Dodgers couldn’t beat a dead horse right now.
Gotta love Pods at home… LeBlanc for the W!
He’s got another home start next week, so I’ll give him another look or two.
Dotel threw 2 innings yesterday, it’s not surprising that Meek was in for the save today. I still think Dotel has the job. But I also picked up Meek in my main league.
Meek with a clean 9th FTS. You prepared for a slew of “should I drop Dotel for Meek?” posts, Grey?
Prob is, I just don’t have room in my roster for this Meek guy. I mean, should I drop any of Morales, Chris Perez, Dotel, Ibanez, Pierre, Jose Lopez, Alfonso Soriano for this guy? I don’t think so.
Meek saying on Pirates postgame that he was only in because Dotel was not available.
@Awesomus Maximus: He he, I guess I just started it…
@tHe ShiT:
Exactly. Now I didn’t watch the game, so I don’t know if he may have been in a bases loaded situation and they decided to PH Eric Chavez, but I seriously doubt that. Anyone got any idea?
@Eddy: Ahh… didn’t realize he started. Like I wrote earlier, been out of the loop this evening and assumed he hadn’t started since the news this morning was “he’ll be in the lineup on Friday.”
Looks like he had three PAs… a walk in the 2nd, a K in the 4th, HBP in the 7th and was PH for in the 9th (Chavez K’d in his place).
@ Eddy:
I didnt watch it either, just looked at the box score. But 4 wut its worth, i severed ties with him, cant afford his DNPs or crappy avg. Coco is coming back soon, and there are others waiting 2 take his spot permanently…
@Eddy: No, there was no one on according to the game recap I’m looking at. My guess is that it was a matchup PH (Gregg being a RHP, Rajai being a RHB, Chavez being a LHB).
@Awesomus Maximus:
Oh ok, that HBP makes more sense now. So that’s 3 PA. All right yea then looks like I made a fuss over nothing then. Thanks for clearing that up.
@tHe ShiT:
I’m being lenient with him because he’s my only bench player and I don’t start him anyway. I just can’t deny the speed he possesses, so until it becomes apparent that he’s platooning or something of the sort, I’ll keep on leaving him on my bench for now
@Awesomus Maximus:
Yea, even more sense now. Thanks!
Hmm… I just received a trade offer of my Jay Bruce for… no one. You think I’m giving up too much?
Seriously though, I didn’t even know it was possible to send an offer of “no one” for “someone”.
@Awesomus Maximus:
Brilliant!
I’m assuming it was an error on the sender’s part. I’d offered him Bruce/Scherzer for Grady, he declined (marking Scherzer as the “Deal Breaker”) and countered with Bruce for “None”. Just sent him back an offer of Bruce/Nunez for Grady, but I don’t think he’s gonna’ bite. My next best offer would be Bruce/Price, but that’s too much to give up for Grady, right?
@Awesomus Maximus:
I don’t think you want to appear too interested by sending offer after offer. It’ll raise the perceived value of Grady.
@Mojo the Helper Monkey: yeah man as a weeks owner it’s a little frightening. Don’t know what’s going on with that but he just halved (doubled?) his BB:K rate.
@Awesomus Maximus: why do you want Grady? he can’t hit a bull’s ass with a handful of rice from 3 ft. away right now.
@and1mcgee:
Ha! That’s pretty funny
@Grey: @Panicky owners

@and1mcgee: ‘Cause I don’t trade for “right now”… I trade for the rest of the season. I’m not convinced that a 27 year old who had 4 straight 20/20 seasons (the last of which was a 30/30) is washed up after one disappointing season and a bad April. I’m willing to gamble he’ll be better than Bruce for the rest of ’10… I’m even willing to add a SAGNOF or an SP that could be dropped after one more bad start to that gamble… don’t think I’m willing to add Price to it, though.
@and1mcgee: yeah as a Grady owner I don’t really see much in the way of peripherals to hang your hopes on. BABIP is slightly down at least. But walk rate is down, K rate is up, swing rate on pitches out of the strike zone is way up. His fantasy owner wishful thinking index is off the charts though, as is his sexting rate; good contact on coffee mugs in the zone.
@Eddy:
Cool shades Evan and Robot Jones
@Awesomus Maximus: I’m hoping and betting you’re right. Dude just looks out of it, not in an unlucky way, but in a Bills-like changed-his-approach-for-the-worse/might-be-injured way.
