@Grey: In the cold light of day, I agree with you. Blanks seems blocked yet again, which is a shame considering his 2009 and power potential. Well, I wish you a happy, healthy recovery from what sounds like will be a not so pleasant start to the new year. Though I know from experience that LA is loaded with restaurants that can go a long way towards diminishing the severity of a hangover. Umami for breakfast! Or you can just get started drinking again right now, making January 1 a happy memory, and January 2 (or dare I say, 3) a less happy one.

@Grey: Okay, now that I've sobered up, I'm thinking that this deal was to appease the fans that are constantly demanding more investment in offense, a power bat, bringing in the fences, and so on. I suppose this deal is a bit too much like the Ludwick deal, which didn't hurt too bad only because the prospects the Padres traded for him haven't panned out.

@Grey: I think it was a good deal. They shouldn't hoard prospects just because they don't project to win the NL West, and by my count they had at least 11 higher ranked pitching prospects. Most importantly, Ludwick led the Padres with 11 HR last year. Prince Fielder is the only FA left that I think could hit over 20 HR while playing for the Padres. I did not want to watch another season in which no Padre hits 20 HR, and if that means losing two minor league arms, one of which was highly touted until he played in AAA, so be it. You've made me write myself into a corner. You see, I'm not like some other who "love the long ball," but I would like to have more in my life. Just a few. Are you happy? Now you've got me talking about long balls!

@Grey: Very funny...I love this trade, though. Quentin pulls balls to left, and that's the only place in Petco where the wall is relatively short (334). Castro bombed in AAA and I don't know shizz about Hernandez except that he is not in the top 30 of Padres prospects.

Forbes listed SD as the fifth worst city to be a sports fan, and Seattle was ranked number one, so it's not all sunshine and lollipops though. It's only mostly sunshine and lollipops.
