Some of these teams have a great situation if one guy can take the reigns and run with, the others, well, as the Fresh Prince said, “that’s not that simple.” So have a gander, minus the goose, at the closer situations that you will want to monitor for your upcoming drafts and who to be proactively drafting just in case.

(The National League middle relievers post is there, and Grey’s Closer Look.) The options seem to be less as compared to the NL, but quality is still abundant. So enjoy my targets for Holds in the American league. As per the NL post the Peeping Tom’s are guys that you want to watch from a far, but don’t get caught looking too long because it’s the clinker for you or in actuality a miss on the waiver wire.

So with the season approaching I delve into the Hold guys that you want to focus on if your league is awesome enough to include them as a counting stat category. Today is the NL edition, personally I like taking pitchers from the NL to add depth to my bullpen. They have to face weaker line-ups and more pinch hitters. So enjoy who I think you should own in the Who You Want category. I also added a few from each team for you to keep an eye on (but not get noticed doing it by your leaguemates) in the Peeping Tom category. By the by, Rudy just added Holds to the 2013 fantasy baseball projections.

Alex Cobb (Bos vs Cook, Tor vs Morrow) I’ll buy that for a dollar, but right after I get back from Spatula city. He failed to get out of the 5th twice in his last 3 starts and has eclipsed his career high in innings, so the concern may be there. Based on match-ups as they are right now, you could do worse.

The reason you pay attention from basically the beginning of February thru September. That’s almost as long as people stay married to professional sports athletes. So with the payoffs and the dollar signs (or banners for you non-money league participants) being near, staying ahead of the game to secure your seed or to gain the last few points are is crucial. David Phelps (Tor vs Laffey, Bal vs Hunter) I saw the match-ups and my pants sorta don’t fit right anymore. Innings and depth in games should be your only concern, that and making sure your pork is cooked thoroughly.
Please, blog, may I have some more?As a rule of thumb, I figure the best way to fully concentrate on writing these articles is to put on a god-awful dance movie in the background. Unless you secretly like those movies and then I have to ask, what are you doing here? Try it sometimes, it is the best way to become both smarter and less distracted. I don’t have to give specifics, but anything that features dance and horrible soundtracks will suffice. Ok, back to the lecture at hand, this is most certainly a 2 start thang. I am personally liking the lower end options this week, lots of guys that are most likely available in most leagues of moderate size, and the match-ups seem just ripe for the fantasy pickings. So do like Indiana Jones and choose, but choose wisely. Because not all good things are shiny and expected.

I wish they sold some kind of crunch machine for this time of the year, as every start becomes more important than the last. As you are calculating your starts remaining, innings remaining, and most inevitably the trade deadline in your leagues, take a look at where you’re trailing. It is now the time to do something about it, not yesterday or in 3 days. This is why we do all that preparation for the draft and read countless blurbs about players. We want to win or at least look good doing it. So take this week to make your final push, because it feels better to try and lose then to not care at all. Good luck and happy fantasy baseballin’.
