With the All-Star break now a distant memory… which I guess doesn’t make much sense, seeing as how it just happened roughly a week ago. Well, it could make a lot of sense if I have a terrible memory, which certainly could be the case. Because alcohol. The lesson here? Idiom’s are just as dangerous as alcohol consumption. And also having terrible recall. What were we talking about again? Regardless, we have now entered into full trade season pandemonium, PANDEMONIUM I TELL YA! Conor Gillaspie never saw it coming folks. Never. Saw. It. Coming. Scott Kazmir might have though, but I can’t confirm this. I also can confirm that if you are lagging in the standings, there is still some time left to inject something into your roster. I’d prefer it not be illegal substances, but rather try brainstorming some crazy trade ideas and go for it. In all redraft leagues, you should be going all in right now, and hey, if those wild roster changes don’t work, at least you gave it your best effort and didn’t go out quietly. And then you can do those illegal substances. And then play some fantasy football! Wait, what were we talking about again?

What has become tradition over the past several years, I’ve been pumping bold predictions, like, well, insert your own mom joke here. I’ve even done them over on the Fantasy Football side of things. Speaking of which, don’t forget, shameless plug alert, Fantasy Football is coming! [Insert another mom joke here.] So since this is my little corner here on the baseball side of things, and seeing as how we’re near the All-Star break, what is tacitly known as the half-time marker of the season, I thought it’d be nice to check out how badly my predictions look now, and estimate how much crow I’ll have to eat by season’s end. Join me? (I meant the post. Not eating the crow. Unless you like eating crow. Then here’s some salt. Just dump it all over.)

In today’s Podcast, the usual host, what’s-his-face, ah yes, JB Gilpin went MIA in the streets of Philly where he apparently got married, or had a bachelor party, or did something. Who knows? Actually, Grey does, as we went over the fact that Philadelphia is the jewel of the United States. Miguel Cabrera was also mentioned, and I just want to establish, at this point, injuries to star players (including George Springer) should convince you all to check out that atheism thing. Grey and I also went over Robinson Cano and his struggles, along with some strategies on how to catch up in the standings as we reach the All-Star Break. And in a change of a pace for the Baseball Podcast (and what is tradition over at the Fantasy Football Podcast) Grey and I went off-topic a little to talk a bit about the first two episodes of True Detective, Season 2, and had a couple things to say about the Game of Thrones finale. If you don’t want the spoilers, end the show at the 44:50 mark. Otherwise, enjoy the pod! (JB will return next week!)

Welcome again to what is tacitly known as your one-stop-shop for all things Razzball. You bring the stop, I bring the shop. That makes little sense. Well, we’re also tacitly known for that as well! This week, I’m here to proclaim that the past six (or seven, whichever way you do the math) days have been the best yet here at the house of Razz. Why is that? I have no idea. But I do know that this is the special FOURTH OF JULY EDITION. And what does that mean? Nothing really. Are you BBQ’ing? There, you can now enjoy Razzball’s weekly recap with BBQ. And you get a post with an American flag. That’s right folks, we’re all about BBQ and flags and fantasy baseball. AS IT SHOULD BE. (Also, the caps lock key.)

Be sure take a peek inside to not just take a look back, but also a look forward with some player suggestions for next week, straight from Razzball’s Streamonator, Hitter-Tron, and DFSBot!

You’ll probably just have to follow me after the jump to figure that part out… HAVE I INTRIGUED YOU? No? Oh, well then. My bad. You should still keep reading. As sometimes will happen, my little corner here on Saturday mornings isn’t always filled with baseball. It’s not because I don’t like filling things with baseballs (there’s a sexual joke here somewhere), but seeing as how it is my corner, sometimes, I just want to wax poetic about something else. And don’t worry, the entire gist (I’m sure I saw that sexual joke around here…) of this weekly series is to go over everything baseball, so that being said, if you follow me after the jump, that’s where all the baseball’s you’d ever want can be found… But in the meantime, I did want to point out this week that Razzball’s official DotA 2 team, “French Toast is Best Toast” has made the JDL Starter League Playoffs! Now, I know that might not mean anything to most, if not all of you, but to keep it short and sweet, DotA 2 is one of the leading E-Sport (Electronic Sports) video games out there. Imagine football combined with chess, all on a computer screen, and you have some sense of the gameplay. And yes… I lead an amateur team (So I guess I dragged Razzball right in with us.) Now, of course I am in my mother’s basement with my pocket protector equipped while typing this, but it’s still an amazing feat that our amateur team went 10-8 and will be in the playoffs (of anything) starting this weekend. And to get a true sense of how meaningful the E-Sports scene will be (and how far it’s grown), be sure to check out the riveting documentary Free to Play, which is not just about DotA 2, but of how the players and the sport itself might just be up there with baseball and football one day. A great human story too. With pocket protectors. And mother’s basements…

While I took some time last week to remind everyone that football exists and that we’re only 48,654 days away from the season starting (though our rankings have started!), this week, I thought I might carve out a little space during this weekly series to go over the CBS Experts Auction league I’m partaking in that was hosted by Scott White. As a refresher, here’s how the league went down. And yes, to answer your first question, I still have Chase Headley on the team. And to answer your second questions, here’s how things stand as of right now…

Are you guys ready for some football!? (Gotta love that interrobang, and I think you know why. Har har.) Great! (I’m assuming you answered yes.) We only have, roughly, 234 weeks left until the football season. Listen, I get it. Baseball is still the current choice to be played in your mother’s basement (I love your mother’s basement, by the way), and the season hasn’t even reached the half-way point yet. Even if you are in last place, there’s plenty of time to right that ship and something-something sailing metaphor. But I just came on over here to let you know that Razzball’s fantasy football season content schedule is about to come into full bloom. I also came here to tell you that I’m going to come into full bloom… in your mother’s basement. One of these day’s I’ll run out of your mom jokes. But today is not that day. So while we take a moment to go over what was this week in Razz (baseball!), be sure to start checking up on the fantasy football side of things in the coming month, where we’ll have the 2015 Draft Kit, Rankings, Game of Thrones podcast discussions (which you can listen to now!) along with some football talk… maybe, and all the things you’ve come to love about Razzball. Me! (That’s totally why. Don’t say another word.)

In what was another fantastic week (bias much?) here at Razzball, we passed what is commonly known as the unofficial “first day of summer”. As I mentioned last week, Memorial Day should be the mental marker to start analyzing your team, maybe even to begin to seek out what you need and what that might cost you. That could mean finding possible trade partners, weighing free agency additions, or even doing nothing. All that matters is that you take the time to assess your situation and problem solve it. You should still be in the middle of this process, Rome wasn’t build in a day after all, but with Memorial Day in the rear-view, the “dog days of summer” are on the quickly approaching horizon. (The metaphors in this whole lede is just so next level.) Take that into account, as players will start getting “nagging” injuries, hot starts will soon start to regress, pitchers will start to get aches and pains… you’ll need to be on top of your game even more for these next crucial months.

I’ve been alluding (Allusion Michael!) to how and when to panic in terms of your team the past few weeks in my little corner here on Saturday. But the time is now. Memorial weekend is the unofficial “official” period for me (I chose both, because I’m not sure either made sense, and I double down on not making sense), personally, to start acting out my general manager fantasies. Ooo baby, you know I love Andrew McCutchen as a buy-low. So while for the first month (and partly the second month of the season) I begged, pleaded, and cordially requested that you not do anything drastic to your rosters… I am now giving you permission to go buck wild. Yes, that’s correct, I have given you permission to be a deer. Makes a lot of sense. Hopefully you know what you need, so don’t be afraid to go and get it. If it was only that easy with dating. So as we take time this weekend, between relaxing and burning meat, to honor all the men and women, active, retired, and tragically lost while defending their county, in all the armed services, we should also take a moment today to get me some dates. And also to be a deer. And then trade for Andrew McCutchen. This is the weirdest to do list I’ve ever seen…
