Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

Here’s what’s gonna happen.  You’re gonna be out at a family BBQ for Memorial Day.  Your weird uncle that has coke bottle glasses is going to ask your girlfriend if she’ll pass the potato salad just so he can get a glimpse of her bra when she moves her arm, and then your friend is going to text you, “Anthony Rizzo called up!  I grabbed him… Lqqk who sucks –> You!  Say hello to your mother for me.”  First thing you’re gonna think is, why are you friends with this guy?  Bad enough he’s an ass, but he uses Q’s for O’s.  Second thing you’re gonna think is, why you didn’t grab Rizzo and stash him a week ago?  He is absolutely raking in Triple-A:  .359 average, 13 homers in 37 games.  LaHair’s obviously not getting benched, but he can slide into the outfield and Rizzo will be playing 1st base for the Cubs by June 5th.  You can wait until June 4th if your league needs Nerf to supply the balls, but, in most leagues, you better grab him soon.  In the meantime, let’s start calling Rizzo “The Scer.”  You know, if Phil Rizzuto was The Scooter.  Okay, maybe that doesn’t work.  Anyway, here’s some more players to buy or sell this week in fantasy baseball:

BUY

Dale Thayer – Street’s closed, use alternate route.  I’d consider going down Thayer.  Street’s supposed to open again in a few weeks, but city planners and construction have already closed this Street 15 times in the last few years from just wear and tear.  Chances are it’s up and running again are never definite.

Brian Fuentes – I understand people’s hesitation about picking up a guy that’s lost closer jobs before.  How about when you lost the job at Buffalo Wild Wings because you didn’t do the Dracula sneeze and sprayed the wings?  You still landed on your feet at Pita Palace and they didn’t judge you, right?

Addison Reed – Imagine a scenario where you have to go to the bathroom, but to get to the restroom you have to stand on line behind a fat kid trying to pick out an ice cream flavor at a shoppe with 50 flavors.  That fat kid is Robin Ventura.

Casey JanssenSergio Santos’s return is imminent.  And so is Lohan’s acting career, if you believe her manager.  Take closer news at face value, then pick up the guy who is currently getting saves and rub it in the face of the ‘imminent’ closer.

Christian Friedrich – Christian sounds like such a handsome guy’s name.  I wonder if it’s a self-hating Jew thing.  Any the hoo!  I don’t know how long Friedrich is going to be worthwhile.  King of the Obvious, “He pitches his home games in Coors and he’s raw,” but his next start is vs. the M’s.

Wei-Yin Chen – Wow, this week’s starters aren’t looking good, but if you own Wei-Yin and Bruce Chen, you can change your team name to “I Got More Chens Than Yo Momma.”

Alex Cobb – I’d go by Al Cobb, if I were him.  I wish I could shortened my name.  Gr?  What the eff is a Gr?  That’s a Lisa Simpson sound effect.  Gre seems pointless.  Gr-Al?  What am I, Superman’s home planet?  Actually, I am.  Don’t touch my crystals!  I wouldn’t go near Cobb in most leagues, but in AL-Only he’s fine.  Shoot, in Al-Only leagues, he’s a first round pick.  Especially with the injury to Al Albuquerque.

Trevor BauerTyler Skaggs could’ve been here too.  This is the time to grab rookies that might see a June 1st call-up.  In my heart of hearts (which is a second baboon heart that I have located inside my human heart), I don’t think we see Bauer until July-ish, but he’s worth the speculative add.

Bud Norris – He’s over my arbitrary 50% owned cutoff (65%), but that’s why it’s arbitrary.

Welington Castillo – I just went over him this morning.  Scroll down.  No, your other down.  Since that morning’s post was written, Soto’s headed to the DL.  Don’t shed any tears for Soto, his knee already did that.

Danny Espinosa – You know what these Buy/Sells are?  They’re player groupings (ploupings?) of all the guys I’ve told you to grab throughout the week.  What I think some other sites do for their weekly Buy/Sell is see who I’m touting all week and then list them.  I’m not bragging when I say this.  I’m fact checking, snitches!

Everth Cabrera – Called up by the Padres to take O-Dog’s spot.  If you need 20+ steals from your MI, EverCab is the man (he’s also available for bar mitzvahs).

Brian Dozier – Hey, he’s hitting!  (Okay, I got nothing else nice to say about him, but he is hitting right now — it’s all I got!)

Elliot Johnson – See what I said about Dozier but Find and Replace ‘hitting’ with ‘stealing.’

Freddy Galvis – Freddy is okay; he’s okay, Freddy!  Freddy is okay; he’s okay, Freddy!  Now steal some bases, you Smooth Criminal.

Todd Frazier – I just went over my Todd Frazier fantasy.  I wrote it while performing “Stairway to Heaven, Mon” with Dread Zeppelin.

Nolan Arenado – If you missed out on Frazier in deep leagues, you’re gonna miss out on Arenando too and you’re gonna be waiting for Danny Valencia to get recalled and then cry to sleep.  You wanna cry to sleep?  C’mon, do a headstand with that frown!

Josh Bell – He’s another third baseman that should be playing for his major league team right now.  He’s hitting crazy good in the PCL (almost .400, 4 homers in 22 games), but, as we know, hitting in the PCL is like hitting on the moon with an aluminum bat.  For now, Bell’s a solid stash in deep NL-Only leagues.

Yonder Alonso – He’s hitting for average, but he has 1 homer and 1 steal.  BWAHAHAHAHA!  I mean, c’mon.  Move the fences in, Petco overseers!  (And the bases to forty feet apart from each other.)

Chris Heisey – Dusty Baker said he likes Heisey to play every day (if Ludwick wasn’t on the Reds).  Heisey could get 20 homers and 10 steals (if Ludwick wasn’t on the Reds).  I’d grab Heisey in all mixed leagues (if Ludwick wasn’t on the Reds).  Can’t we get Dusty a team where he has no options?  Could someone tape Ludwick and Bailey’s mouths shut, put them in a gorilla suit and ship them to Africa?

Xavier Avery – SAGNOF for Xavery!

Gregor Blanco – There was a legion of Blanco fans (The Whiteys?) that came out of the woodwork the other day when I didn’t mention he was starting for the Giants.  He’s basically a steals guy that might hit a handful of homers, if you had a woodcutting accident and only have 4 fingers.

SELL

David Wright – If you look at our BABIP vs. AVG chart, you’ll find Wright, um, right, there towards the top.  There was one other year he had an inflated BABIP.  The year was 2009.  It was during that year we saw MTV announce it would play more music from 3 AM to 4 AM, The Weather Channel began airing weather-related movies leaving the elderly to wonder where the tornado was and why Bill Paxton was reporting weather and, finally, Al Gore invented running water because he got bored of the Internet.  Also, that year, David Wright had a BABIP of .394, by far his highest BABIP year, and hit .307.  That year he also hit 10 homers.  Now, I’m not saying he’s only going to hit 6 more homers this year or that he’s going to hit .307.  But he’s most definitely not hitting .400, and 20 homers or 20 steals look around his ceiling.  The counting stats will be there, and I don’t think you should trade him for a Fairly OddParents DVD, but his value is high, and may not get higher.

      @crock, or pickup rizzo?

Need to drop one of the following for Soriano….

    Capuano
    Samardzija
    Hammel
    Volquez
    Lilly
    Norris
Or Frank Frank…..don’t really need to carry 3 closers but I already bid on Soriano without a plan so I have to pick him up (my other closer is Motte)

I’m leaning towards Lilly just because all of these guys seem like they’re having great years, but he has the lowest K-rate….

  5. My SPs are CJ Wilson, Greinke, Gio, Anibal, Wandy, Beachy, Marcum, and Latos. (Hudson and Worley currently on the DL.) I got 5 pitching slots. Who are my top 5? Who’s my #6? Will Latos ever get his shit together? Does it matter if my staff is as good as it appears? Should I use 5 guys or 4 and mix the 5th spot with two guys (home/road, weak opposition etc.)? Anyone in there crazy overperforming and heading for a fall?

  7. Hmmm. Interesting on Wright. I was just going to ride his hot hitting as long as I could. But on the same team (16-team, one-year roto league) I’ve got Miggy at 1B. But I could easily slide Miggy over to 3B if I traded Wright for a top 1B. What are a couple of good 1B I could target for Wright?

I’m assuming I’d easily get Tex or Konerko, but what about Wright + a small piece for Pujols? Or maybe Fielder? Or Votto? Who’d you shoot for in a deal like that?

    Thanks!

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

@Enrique, I’d take Pujols with a small piece and Wright… I’d also take Fielder or Votto, in reverse order…

      • @Grey, I just looked, and the guy with Pujols on his team also has Tex and he’s starting Middlebrooks at 3B, so I’d sell it based on his moving Tx to 1B and slotting Wright at 3B. That’s a pretty compelling trade idea, no?

The guy with Votto has Zimmerman at 3B and his backup 1B is Ike Davis, so I doubt he’d go for that (though I could try). The team with Fielder is a crazy Yankees fan with ARod at 3B and Todd Helton as the backup 1B. So I don’t think either of those will fly.

Just to make sure I understand your original reply, is it Pujols + a small piece for Wright? Or Wright + a small piece for Pujols?

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

@Enrique, It is compelling… Yes, Pujols for Wright…Or Wright and a small piece…

1 – send LaHair and Luke Scott, get Johan Santana or Ryan Dempster

Been trying to move a closer and just got this offer:

I give Kenley and Capuano and I get Gosh’s little brother and Harper.

I’ve been riding the hot schmotato at OF (actually, been missing the hot part) so could use Harper IF he’s an everyday guy in a 12 team, daily league.

  16. Hondo says:

Morneau or Rizzo for my occasional UT/2nd of 2 bench guys spot?

      @Hondo, Rizzo

  17. Chillmodious says:
    (link)

    @Grey,

So glad you mentioned Rizzo today because I am in some deep doody at 1B in a 12tm H2H. Offensive Roster:

    C – Ruiz
    1B – Ike Davis
    2B – Jemile Weeks
    SS – Jimmy Rollins
    3B – Jose Bautista
    CI – Jed Lowrie
    MI – Jason Kipnis
    OF – McCutchen
    OF – Jay Bruce
    OF – Howard Kendrick
    OF – Jordan Schafer
OF – Desmond Jennings [currently on DL, but my 2 DL spots are full]
    Util – Moustakas
    Util – Espinosa

    DL – Youkilis

    ———————

Clearly, I am in desperate need of a 1B with only Ike Davis to fill the position. The only semi-palatable and available 1B options in my league are Gaby Sanchez and Brandon Belt (and Rizzo). So, my only hope at a legitimate upgrade at 1B from the FA pool is Rizzo. Until one of Youk/Jennings gets activated, I’m already a man down every day–but I want to stash Rizzo. The only way I could do this is if I were to drop Ike Davis for Rizzo. In that scenario, I would be playing down 2 guys on the active roster every day until one of Youk/Jennings is activated (hopefully Tuesday) AND Rizzo gets the call-up.

In consideration of the above, together with what Ike Davis is doing (or not doing) right now, am I better off picking up Rizzo today and going without a 1B until he gets called up? I worry that Rizzo will get scooped by another team and I’ll be stuck with Ike/Gaby/Belt as the best available 1Bs. Also, Ike is killing me and I almost think playing nobody at 1B is better than playing Ike.

(thanks for taking the time to read through that)

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

@Chillmodious, You gotta time it out… I think you wait until Youk gets activated then grab Rizzo…

      • Chillmodious says:
        (link)

@Grey, Thanks for replying to my novella. This is an issue I’ve been wrestling with in my head even before you posted the Rizzo blurb today–so your opinion goes a long way. Being that I am probably going to lose all of this week’s offensive categories in my current matchup, I’m dropping Ike for Rizzo after the Mets play today and will hope Youk gets activated Tuesday-ish. (If Ike does something crazy today, maybe I’ll wait until Sunday to drop)

Someone said it above, but you really don’t get enough credit for all you do!

Glad I went with my gut and added Rizzo on Monday, maybe some readers will shoot me some trade offers!

Grey – How crazy am I to want to trade Elvis Andrus for JJ Hardy and Frieri in the RCL? I’m leading in SBs and have points to make up in HRs. I feel like Andrus is basically Michael Young right now with more speed then power…basically helping me in AVG only.

I still have Boneface, Trout, Pagan, and A. Jones giving me steals. I value high K/9 RPs pretty highly in the RCL due to the start limit vs. inning limit.

What are your thoughts on this trade? Much obliged!

I’m in first place overall and rocking 11s and 12s in all offensive cats….have one bench spot for an offensive player at the moment and thats Boesch…C. Davis is my last starting offensive player ….. should I drop Boesch for Rizzo or hold? bee tee dubs, have you listened to the drums yet? (link)

@mc serch, Depends on your situation. I think Detwiler may have peaked, but if pitching is thin you might have a need. I need Rizzo to show me he’s got MLB chops. Since Boesch has been a slow starter, if he hits his preseason projections you’re getting plus production from him.

    (link)

Scary scene at Wrigley…Samardzija drilled Konerko in the face/left eye in his 2nd AB after giving up a homer to him in the 1st. Konerko fell to the ground rolling around in pain, but eventually left under his own power with a towel over his face/eye. Don’t own him, but really hope he is alright.

    • james d says:
      (link)

@letsgobravos, He’s been hit in the face before and came out of it ok. Major fear to me on HBP stuff is knee and other joints; we avoided that hear.

Other point is that this may fuck with Samardzija’s head and break him for a month or two. I’d honestly be looking to sell Samardzija now for almost whatever he buys.

      • letsgobravos says:
        (link)

@james d, Eh, I’d rather have a guy get hit almost anywhere other than the face. The last time Big Paul was hit in the face it was around his mouth and he stayed in the game. This looked like it might have hit him around the eye so any injury that impairs a hitters vision is disastrous. Not to mention the fact that he could also have a concussion. The good news is that it was an off speed pitch at 85 and not one of Jeff’s 99 MPH fast balls.

Both benches were just warned after Humber tried to fucking kill LaHair with a fast ball to the face. Lucky for LaHair, he was able to duck it.

My only concern is that Evereth won’t get on base all that much. But hey, he’s gotta be better than Aybar right? So it’s worth the risk of upside vs. risk of missing out on Aybar’s “re-emergence” of fantasy usefulness?

I mean, I’ve got Miggy on the same team and even his numbers (19/8/33/1/.305) are almost half of what Hamilton’s are. Dude is insane! Sorry, just thought I’d point out the obvious here.

    DL: Evan Longoria, Desmond Jennings

    • In a 14 team league, non-keeper.

I drafted Bauer, so have owned him all year, but also just picked up Oswalt and dumped some low hanging fruit for him. He wants to pitch for a contender, but selfishly hoping its in the NL.

Been tracking Bauer heavily – as you know, he got promoted to AAA and should be up by June… finger, toes crossed.

Middlebrooks may not be servicable as of next week, but you dont have another 3b… so, there’s that. Not sure what you do there. But assuming you solve that somehow (Frazier?) , you can lose Middlebrooks and Santos for Bauer and/or Oswalt. That’s just me, not a big believer in closers anyway.

Jose Conseco started today at DH for the Worcester Tornadoes. Drew a couple of walks so obviously the pitchers are still intimidated. The Tornadoes are an independent league team though so I’m wondering which MLB team will pick him up. Should I petition yahoo to make him available in the player pool yet, grey? Pretty sure Jose will be the key to my playoff victory this fall.

    • Poo Holes says:
      (link)

@letsgobravos, I interned with the Brockton Rox, who was in the Can-Am league at the time. If Canseco plays well, good for him. But not a lot of guys from this league get the call. Steve Delabar of the Mariners is the only guy from the Rox to see the majors. I still remember the failed experiment of Josh Papelbon, after the Sox organization let him go. I just find it unlikely that a major league team would pick him up, especially if he’s hitting independent league pitching.

Meh, I don’t think we see Rizzo till Late June or July either (service time, crappy team, smart front office thing, not talent issue, they’ll delay his free agency if they wait until the end of June) and I’ll hold Wright thank you. Like LaHair, his numbers are so crazy right now that he’s difficult for owners to evaluate, and I don’t think most owners will give him his proper due. His strikeout and swinging strike rates are the best he’s ever had (the latter of which stabilizes pretty quickly, since it’s a per pitch not per PA situation, so the denominator i.e. sample size is much larger) and his walk rate is through the roof. Obviously agree he won’t hit .400 all year, but some of the 30% line drive rate he has are going to turn into fly balls, and his HR/FB is right in line with his career mark, which means as the average comes down the power should go up. I’d say 20 HR is selling him short. The slightly high GB% is a bit troubling, but that is much more likely to just be sample size noise than the reduced swinging strike rate.

If someone would give me a no doubt top 15 type player for Wright, I might sell, but not for less than that. I see no reason he can’t be a Top 20 player from here on out (health assumed, of course) and one of a select group of players who will provide positive value in all five categories.

Oh, and apparently if my eyes do not deceive me, Tim Stauffer’s Stuffing got put back on the DL.

@Wilsonian, I’m really hoping this means they’ll promote Robbie Erlin. Though considering the luck they’re having with pitchers and injuries this year, they might just leave him in the minors until next year.

@Grey, Yeesh, good point. And if the audio on the podcast is any indication, it would likely be a bus that would end your misery.

You missed a good time (but terrible game) last night. Free top shelf liquor and fancy pants food (don’t you love it when they grill lettuce? classy!) and we ate right next to Dave Winfield. I think we sat behind Mark Loretta, though given that he just looks like any other middle aged dude, I might be wrong.

@Grey, Thanks…I was kinda hoping you were going to say Thayer (I hate Huston Street, and it’s only grown exponentially since I grabbed Thayer a few weeks ago).

Regarding #2, was that you choosing Arencibia over Lowrie and addind the “JP” for emphasis, or was the “JP” a “just playin”? Sorry, Facebook and text messaging were just coming in to vogue when I was in college–a little slow on all the e-slang these days.

@Grey, lo and behold… I’m watching the MLB game mix on directv and Mets/Jays is side-by-side with Braves/Rays on the screen…Prado was up a couple minutes ago and the camera had an up-close of him in the batters box while the Mets/Jays game came back from commercial–with a Mets dugout shot that had John Niese sitting dead red. Same nose, man. There has to be a mold somewhere.

@Grey, Total non-sequitur to this thread, but why does Edwin Encarnacion round the bases with his right arm up in such a way that it looks like he’s holding an invisible coat on a hanger that he can’t let drag on the ground? Ever noticed that? It’s infuriating. (at least until you realize he is rounding the bases and giving you fantasy nom nom nom)

and i roster more players who have multiple eligibility than your average joe .

how the heck have you been avoiding empty spots , thus far ?
i know that you carry more pitchers and less bench bats than i do .

Thanks for answering my questions and help me take actions I should take on my own.

5 X 5 roto with I got 7 closers: Valverde, Aceves, Marshall, Reed, Fuentes, Soriano and Dolis. I have tried moving someone, but no takers.

Are you ok dropping Dolis for Rizzo? Different closer for Rizzo? Or drop Lowrie who is playing third with Panda on DL and move Moose to 3rd.

1B is Pujols/Luke Scott. Current Util other then Pujols is Moose.

Hello Grey (or is it Weekend Grey),
Well, my infield of Kendrick, Cozart (finally dropped for Desmond next week) and A-Roid don’t seem to be cutting it. I am about to lose big for a third time in our 12 Team H2H League and my offense has kinda sucked. I have Votto at 1B and Butler as my Util.

Is Kendrick done? I know it’s early and I recall getting chastised not too long ago from some of your faithful for saying so, but times are getting desperate.

How about a trade of Butler and say Strasburg for Cano? The Cano owner offered me him for my Votto straight up, but I decided against it.

I don’t know if I could afford to lose pitching, but the Strasburg shut down in September (or at least slow down) has me worried.

Any advice would help. Thanks Grey.

    Gr (I don’t know, I like it!),
I’d love to snatch Rizzo (still on waivers) in my Yahoo 12 team H2H. It’s a very competitive pay league.
    Here’s my team:
    C Jarrod Saltalamacchia
    1B Joey Votto
    2B Ian Kinsler
    3B Mike Moutakas
    SS Elliot Johnson
    OF Jay Bruce
    OF Howie Kendrick
    OF Corey Hart
    UTIL Cody Ross
    UTIL Andy Dirks
    Bench Alcedes Escobar
    Bench Pablo Sandoval

    SP Anibal Sanchez
    SP Madison Bumgarner
    RP Henry Rodriquez
    RP Sean Marshall
    P Aroldis Chapman
    P Dale Thayer
    P David Price
    P Ryan Vogelsong
    Bench Drew Smyly
    Bench James McDonald
    Bench Gavin Floyd
    DL Daniel Hudson

I’d like to get rid of a hitter to pick up Rizzo. I keep falling back to Escobar, Johnson or Kendrick. Kendrick is off to a terrible start and Escobar and Johnson are offering more value, so far, than Kendrick. Am I crazy to drop Kendrick, outright, or should I maybe look to trade Kendrick and Daniel Hudson in a 2 for 1, to make room for Rizzo? What kind of player might I expect to get for a Kendrick/Hudson deal…maybe a Victorino? Thanks!

EVERY site that i visited extolled the potential of christian friedrich ,
    especial going into seattle .

here’s a typical example (the name of the author has been omitted ,
on purpose . he’ll have to deal with the back-lash of his own readership) :

“Christian Friedrich vs. Mariners: How is this for a way to start your big league career. Take on the Padres in San Diego. Then fly north up the California coast to take on the Giants in San Francisco. How about you them hop on a plan to fly home to take on the Mariners. Has a pitcher ever had a better set of three opponents to take on to start his big league career? Through 13 innings the lefty with the dominating curve ball has 17 Ks, two walks allowed an a 1.38 ERA.”

Grey , i suppose , will have to field his own criticisms .
His advice was to hold onto the young friedrich until after the seattle game .
(ride the wave , dudes) .

But this is all about ME .
    Shame on ME .

shame on me for forgetting razzball “rule c” (yes there’s always been a “c”).
“rule c” , simply stated , is ==> “when all others zig , you zag” .

Just realised I have Middlebrooks at my CI, with the looming return of Youk.

Reckon then find a spot for him to keep him around? Or is he ticketed back to AAA until Youk (inevitably) gets injured again.

Guys like him sure are useful in those deep leagues.

@Grey, Dang…oh well hope Adams can take over and do the job.

When you draft Ike in a 16 teamer as your CI, and he stinks like he has, gotta roll with the kids all year long…

Scherzer with 14 ks through 6…has given up two solo shots. Benched all 3 of my starters today bc I wanted to protect my lead of 1 in HRs allowed and I thought I was out of it on Ks. Price has given up a homer also so I guess it was a good decision despite the fact it appears I probably would have come back to win K’s.

Grey, can I have my own column where I list the pitchers I’m streaming so that everyone else can avoid them like the black plague? I’m also going to start emailing the teams these schmucks play for and extorting them to pay me to keep their marginal pitchers off my team. Parker, Friedrich, Westrbook, Chen, and Smyly have all had their worst start of the year after I picked them up this week. Can’t be a coincidence. I am the angel of death.

      (link)

@Steve, Steve know you’re a bit of a football (soccer) fan. See the champions league final yesterday? What a crazy match wasnt it…england beating the germans on penalties at last! Well kinda…

      • Steve says:
        (link)

@TheNewGuy, Incredible. You have to hand it to Chelsea – they have simply refused to accept defeat right through the competition.

But man – they were TOTALLY outplayed yesterday. They’ve moaned in the past about bad luck in the CL, but there can’t be too many teams that have had Messi, Robben and Schweinsteiger miss penalties against them in the space of a month…

        • TheNewGuy says:
          (link)

@Steve, Ha really…oh yeah Messi did miss a panalty too didnt he (hit the bar?). I know yeah it was pretty onesided all night, Chelsea just sat deep but Bayerns finishing was embarassing at times. That Gomez guy has like 50 something goals this season I heard, yet he looked like a pub player yesterday!

Schweinsteigers penalty was pretty hillarious too, tried to act all casual with that stuttered run-up, then totally ballsed it up.

Just hope England have more of that luck this summer!

You a kiwi fan then right? Know the players Fallon and Reid but thats about my limit, you did a suprisingly good job in the last WC though if I remember rightly!

              @Steve, Haha, wow!

I get the feeling England (my team) might actually do something this summer. There is no great expectations on the team for once, so without the pressure we might be able to surprise a few teams!

Still Spain, Holland or (ugh) Germany to win for me though.

My matchup is deadlocked at 6 each and we’re tied in RBI and steals. I have a few innings left from Posey, Yonder, and Trout and he has Tulo, Trumbo, and Ethier. This is gunna be a close one!

    • TheNewGuy says:
      (link)

@Poo Holes, Im riding 7 ribeyes from Lucroy of all guys to a 2RBI lead! 6-4 up now.

  245. Chillmodious says:
    (link)

Saw above that you endorsed Matt Adams over Rizzo. Could you expound upon that? I dropped Ike Davis for Rizzo on Friday, choosing to play with an open 1B slot for the next couple weeks over potentially losing out on Rizzo. Also because there are no other serviceable 1Bs available. Now with Matt Adams in the picture, things are a bit different. Do you think Adams is the better add for the season or just until Rizzo is up? Would you drop Rizzo for Adams (knowing you wouldn’t be able to get Rizzo back)? First base has been a killer for me to the point that I was actually ok with an open roster spot for two weeks due to the promise of Rizzo. If you’re saying that Adams is the better overall add, I don’t want to spend those two weeks in vain.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

@Chillmodious, Adams is up right now, if he plays well, which he could, then he’s solid… Rizzo may not be up for two weeks… If both were up, I’d take Rizzo…

      • Chillmodious says:
        (link)

@Grey, Makes sense. Thanks for that. I think I’m going to call an audible in order to keep Rizzo and also fill 1B–about to drop Rafael Dolis for Matt Adams. My logic: Dolis is a crappy pitcher who only has value as a closer, he barely gets any chances and his manager will play him for 2 innings or Kazam him (like today), and I already have Perez/Casilla/Downs/Thayer/Santos(DL). Was going to ditch Dolis for a SP, but best available is Smyly and I need a bat. You good with that?

        • Chillmodious says:
          (link)

@Chillmodious, Nevermind, strike that. Adams is gone. He who hesitates… something something. Guess I’m left holding my Rizzo (ew, that sounds kinda dirty) and keeping Dolis for now. I might drop Dolis for Viciedo to get another bat in my lineup, but 1B remains sketchy.

  246. Steve says:

@Steve, He looks a mess right now…have the chance of trading for him in a league where I need a 2B but keep putting it off until he actually starts hitting.

Sure he’ll get it going soon, but due to his lack of patience he’s probably prone to streaks.

      • Steve says:
        (link)

@TheNewGuy, 2-5 today I guess is not so bad. I’ll even overlook the picked off and caught stealing LOL

my dl’s for that team are street , farnsworth , and santos .
not surprisingly , i’m next to last in the saves category .

i may never enter into a “discussion” with wilsonian ever again .

just when we’ve cured the angels’ line-up troubles , kendrys gets a
total of 3 ab’s in san diego , (how’d that work out for you scioscia ? … you lost 2 out of 3 to the power-house padres !!) and now kendry gets to go on active-duty in the pitcher-friendly parks of oakland and seattle for 8 games .

plus , scioscia will probably sit kendrys against the lefty milone .
geez , if you’re not going to play the guy , trade him .
how many other teams would like kendrys as their everyday 1stbaseman ??

@chata, HA! Dude might be the worst manager in baseball. Tell me again, why isn’t Walden closing??

          @Wilsonian,

for sure he’ll regain that closer job .
probably being taught a lesson …. considering the level of scioscia’s
intelligence , it’s probably over a parking spot dispute .

i just read the brewers tied a season high with with 14 strikeouts against pavano and the twins saturday. Wait they already did that once this year? I am going to stream starters against Milwau K this week

I hate to ask, but drop Marshall/Dirks for Adams? Doesn’t feel right to drop Stubbs.

      @Long Bawls, Marshall

@grey- Would you trade Fielder for Jennings and Halladay? I need runs.

      @Martin, It’s fair, I’d get runs in a cheaper way though…

LaHair for Linc a trade you can make and feel good about? Tim has turned my world upside down.

And what of Mesoraco in a 14-team keeper (keeping 10 next year)? He’s been terrible.

      @Steve,

plenty of draft-able catchers will be available .

@Grey, Thanks. Same team (14 teamer) – can’t drop Ike though, right? Just banish him to the bench for a bit?

    oops …
trying to type in the dark .

anywho … mesoraco shouldn’t enter your “10 keepers” discussion .

      @chata, No, didn’t think so.
