Matt Joyce a sell?  Now I will bite my lip and try not to sob.  Quiet, gentle sobs that Joyce used to assuage.  Joyce and I had something together that no one else can understand.  Well, maybe some of you that also own him can understand it, but the rest of you never will.  We shared moments that can only be explained by watching an Ecuadorian couple that has been married for 60 years sharing a mango on a park bench.  That’s what we had!  Picture, if you will, a giant mustache wrapped like a shawl around Matt Joyce’s shoulders.  We were that inseparable for about six weeks.  I own Joyce all over the place and he’s about the only hitter I have playing over his head.  Alas, playing over his head is the problem with Joyce, to DeWitt.  His BABIP is absurd; he’s a .270 hitter currently hitting .360.  He’s sandwiched between Votto and Miguel Cabrera on ESPN’s Player Rater.  That’s crazy.  I know I told everyone to grab him back in April, but he’s not this good.  Humble brag!  He’s never had more than 5 hits vs. lefties in an entire season, he hit .080 last year vs. lefties, i.e., he’s a platoon player.  He’s making good contact and swinging at good pitches, but at some point his luck is gonna turn vs. righties and opposing managers are going to throw LOOGY’s at him in later innings.  So I wouldn’t sell him for $24 in trinkets, but I would explore options.  Anyway, here’s some more players to buy or sell this week in fantasy baseball:

BUY

Laynce Nix – He’s another platoon (doesn’t face lefties often) player, but he’s also only owned in 22% of ESPN leagues and he’s hit 3 homers in the last week.  If someone grabs Nix off waivers before you, call yourself a wambulaynce.

Jon Jay – After hitting .397 in May with 3 homers and 3 steals, he had the best month of his career since he wrote The Federalist Papers.

Nyjer Morgan –  SAGNOF!

Jason Bourgeois – I heard through the grapevine that he’s coming back this weekend, and by ‘grapevine,’ I mean I read it on the internet.  Thank you, Al Gore!

Tony Campana – While Marlon Byrd plays piano in the cellar for the next 6 weeks, Campana should see time.  He can get on base at a decent rate and he has crazy speed.  In fact, he just ran into your room, messed your hair and ran back out and you didn’t even know it.

Andres Torres – A fantasy baseball Rorschach test would have an ink blot of Angel Pagan and Andres Torres.

Allen Craig – Hit .350 in May and is the starting 2nd baseman, assuming Pujols doesn’t try and get that eligibility too.  Craig’s a 15/8 guy if he plays all year, which is great for a middle infidel not named Asdrubal.

Danny Espinosa – I’m not sure why he’s only owned in 37% of ESPN leagues other than 10,000 ESPN leagues might be owned by one guy who goes by the initial X who just likes to mess with me by picking up and dropping random players.  X, “What?  I have some free time.”

Josh Willingham – The other white meat is smoking with a side order of hot schmotato.

Brian Matusz – For full disclosure purposes, I wouldn’t pick up Matusz outside of an AL-Only league, and he’d be owned there anyway.  I just have a mental block about Orioles pitchers.  Don’t worry, I’m in therapy.

Daniel Murphy –  It’s absolutely bonkers to me that no other fantasy sites are touting Daniel Murphy.  Granted, I don’t read other fantasy sites and Murphy is pretty yawnstipating, but, I mean, c’mon!

Ty Wigginton –  Wiggy, Wiggy, Wiggy, can’t you see, sometimes your streaks just hypnotize me.  His picture should be next to the definition of hot schmotato (and it would say, “See also Luke Scott”).

Anthony Rizzo – It’s interesting that there’s times that I’ll talk about a player a lot and make myself even more excited for him, and other times when I dull my excitement the more I mention someone.  And I should have modified interesting with “to only me.”  Rizzo’s starting to bore me and he’s not even in the majors yet.  A few badonkadonks though and that can all change.

Ryan Theriot –  Know what I really like about Theriot?  Yeah, um, well, he does have a pretty cool last name.  He also has, um, hmm…Uh…  Well, he’s currently hitting and has some speed.

Eric Young Jr. – I kinda want to start another league just so I can redraft and take Young with my first pick.  The unabashedly crazy bro-love comes from the fact that Young has 60 steal speed.

Brett Lawrie – Just went over my Lawrie fantasy.  I wrote it while doing vodka shots with Karen Allen.

Brent Lillibridge – In the Razzball Glossary section of the forums, someone suggested peg boy replace hot schmotato.  I’m not ready to make the change, though, if you wanted your son to grow up to be a peg boy, you’d name him Brent Lillibridge.

Brandon Crawford – I think Crawford is one of those adds that by the time they get on your team they’ve overstayed their welcome.

Aaron Crow – Everyone in the preseason who said Soria’s the best closer in baseball is eating Crow.  Wah-wah-wahhhhh…Sad trombone.

Vicente Padilla – Mattingly said Padilla will take the closer job back.  Very surprising since he juggled seven different guys to varying degrees of failure in his absence.

Juan Nicasio – High risk, high reward type flyer.  Could get you a couple of high-K starts, might give you an ulcer, will probably be bumped from the rotation for Aaron Cook.

Jordan Lyles – Just went over my Jordan Lyles fantasy.  I wrote it in 1996, stuck it into a bottle and found it fifteen years later off the coast of Brazil.

SELL

Michael Pineda – Out of 11 starts, Pineda’s only had 4 starts vs. teams with a better than .500 record (as of yesterday. (I didn’t feel like figuring out who was over .500 when he faced them. (If you’d like a refund of your no money paid, let me know))).   In the 4 starts vs. the .500+ teams, he gave up 12 runs in 24 innings, giving him a 4.50 ERA.  In 2009, he missed a lot of the season with an elbow injury so the Mariners would have to be run by Ed Wade’s Toupee to push Pineda deep into September, eliminating his usefulness in H2H playoffs.  Now to completely hedge, I’m a fan of Pineda and don’t think he’s going to become side-of-the-barn hittable, but I would look at options.

Carlos Lee – He slashed .325/.341/.470 in May.  Wait, why isn’t El Caballo in the Buy section?  Oh, I know.  Cause he also hit only 2 homers last month.  Blech.  Who is he, Mike Aviles?  In most mixed leagues, I’d turn Caballo into glue.

Darwin Barney – Dropping Darwin would be intelligent design.

    As a Joyce and Pineda owner in different leagues, I’m not sure what to do with this. Of course Joyce isn’t that good all of a sudden and of course Pineda will get limited at some point. But when is the right time to move them? Move them too early and you lose out on a ton of production. Move them too late and you’re left with very little. Guys in my leagues will be hesitant to give much for either guy because they know all this information as well.

    I’m sure many sold Bautista too early and for too little last year too. It’s not an easy situation for either guy.

    “Darwin Barney – Dropping Darwin would be intelligent design.” Beautiful! Also, I’ll give points for the John Jay/Federalist Papers reference. This is why I read this site. Besides the brilliance of the fantasy baseball advice, it’s just damned entertaining.

  3. Mark says:

    Guy in my league is trying to sell Bud Norris and Chris Coghlan for some power and/or average. What’s a fair second piece to offer with Francisco Liriano to try and buy a bit low on Norris and hope Coghlan comes around. Beltran too much? Carlos Pena maybe? I’m not super deep in OF or 1B, and my pitching staff is pretty decent sans Liriano, so I’m on the fence, but I can’t help trying to get Norris at a good price.

    Also, looks like Chris Perez could be the next Joakim Soria. Telltale signs: loss of velocity, 1:1 K:BB, getting lucky on balls in play and giving up zero homers, but a blowup may be imminent. Pestano’s been pretty closerish setting him up. But then again, Salas blew a save so I’m also wondering if Tony LaRussa’s going to let the now pitching solidly Jason Motte get a turn on the merry-go-round.

    Would an offer of Andrus/Pineda for Hanley be fair? With SAGNOF’s like E Young Jr. and Pierre on my roster, plus Kinsler and Braun, I am 2nd in SB’s and charging hard on the leader. And I could play that stiff Jeter until Hanley gets right. I’ve just held Jeter on my bench because I think he’s too decent to drop and the position is so scarce.

  20. @Grey: no aubrey huff??? thought he’d be here for sure.

    eitherway, i’m in need of a decent 1B in my 12 tm NL only dynasty. Currently rolling with Belt and Nady (yikes!)… targeting Huff.

    I’m giving
    Belt $30, Rubby De La rosa ($10), Wellington Castillo ($1), and Henry Blanco ($1)

    Whoops. Offered Pineda/Andrus for Hanley and I see Hanley’s not in the lineup again on rotoworld….probable DL stint. Is this still a good gamble for the hope of a hot 2nd half by Hanley over Andrus or is Hanley damaged goods? I could pull the offer.

    How do you like swapping Joyce for Morrison? H2H, where OBP counts as well as AVE and we have LF/CF/RF.

    Of course I should have grabbed Morrison off the wire when I had the chance but that’s history now…

  29. L-Boogie says:
    (link)

    What’s up with Longoria? He’s been just so-so. I can probably trade him for a haul for name recognition alone. Should I hang on or trade?

    If I trade, is Longo for Bruce and Sandoval (coming back in a week or so) a good deal?

    Thanks dude.

  30. dsimon says:
    (link)

    Grey-

    How for real is Logan Morrison? Think he’ll continue at this pace, or reasonably close for this year? I have received an offer of Morrison for Valverde. I have 3 closers, h2h league. Interesting quirk of using AVG, OPS, and runs created (which is dumb, because its like double counting OPS).

    I’m replacing Jose Tabata. My OF is somewhat cobbled together, especially with Heyward on the DL, but Morse has been a solid replacement lately.

  31. paddyman says:
    (link)

    Oh man. These sells got me tweakin as I’m an owner of Joyce and Pineda also.

    Very hesitant to drop Joyce. Is he this years bautista? He has hit at least one homer off a lefty. But I need sb’s. Would mccutchen be a good swap?

    what pitchers would you consider flipping pineda for? He pitches at the big ass park and he’s a big beast of a lad. I’m not concerned about innings limitations for him. Who would you try to get for him?

  32. dsimon says:
    (link)

    Wow, I just got an update… we start LF, RF, CF in this league. My CF has been “the hot hand” since I accidentally drafted Stripper Name Rios as time expired on my pick…

    I could do Victorino straight up for Valverde too. That seems like a better deal no?

  36. Mark says:

    @Grey

    If you want a sliver of a silver lining on Chris Perez, his SwStrk% is actually up a bit this year from last year, but its still a touch below both the league average and his career average (its at 8.1% so far). That still might mean his strikeouts could trend up a bit, but you still like to see better marks in that regard from a closer. And the 92.9 MPH he’s averaging on his fastball is a pretty troubling indicator considering he’d never been below 94.3 MPH before. That’s a pretty similar dip to what Soria saw. And the fact that his GB% is only 30% and he’s somehow yet to give up a homer isn’t exactly encouraging, he could give up a bunch in a hurry with a batted ball profile like that. Its not even like he’s inducing lots of popups, his IFFB is only 6.7%. Plus, not that its ever really been a skill of his, but he can’t get anyone to chase anything out of the zone. His O-Swing% is a miserable 19.9% (league average is 29.2% and his career average is 22.7%), which is probably why the walks are up as well.

    Meanwhile Vinnie Pestano is doing just about everything you like a closer to do. He’s got a 27/8 K/BB in 21 IP. His walks are decent, and he’s always had high strikeout rates since his time in the minors, where he had also shown good control. He’s pretty much GB/FB neutral thus far. His SwStrk% is absurd at 16.9%. The only thing he doesn’t really have is an electric heater, as his fastball only averages about 93 MPH, which is decent but nothing special for a closer. Still, its working. He looks pretty ownable as a setup man even in non-holds leagues thus far, and I wouldn’t put it past him to worm his way into the closer role at some point. For reference, aside from GB%, fastball velo, and prospect pedigree, all that stuff is quite a bit better than Aaron Crow.

    Hamels would be okay, but I’d try to get more. Bruce is the NL’s version Jose Bautista right now. If he flat refused I might do it, I do like Hamels a lot. Lohse I might not even pick up if he was on the wire and I was desperate for pitching. And if I did own him, I wouldn’t own him, because I would have sold him by now.

    Could you rank these SP:

    Kershaw, Cain, Latos, Oswalt

    Theriot is batting leadoff for the highest scoring team in baseball while hitting over .300 with good speed and somehow has managed to score only 20 runs on the season.

    i traded pineda a couple days ago for kershaw. pineda is keepable in the 15th next year and the 8th the year after. i think i gave up a lot considering the keepablility but in my league a lot of guys don’t trade so i was dealing with a limited audience. i already have plenty of good keepers to choose from. i love kershaw. anyway do you guys think i did ok?

  83. The Sequential Hermaphrodite says:
    (link)

    Which of these guys is the best add:

    Laynce Nix
    Allen Craig
    Domonic Brown (who is hitting .300+ and will now get some playing time against lefty’s)

    Also would you drop Billy Butler for Aubrey Huff, Mark Trumbo, or Todd Helton?

    @anarchy: I like it.

  85. STRAWberry says:

    @anarchy burger: Dude, you did more then OK. You acquired a pitcher whom is proven, has at least a half way decent team to score runs for him, and looks to be a top 10 pitcher for awhile. You traded away a rookie whom has success the first time around the bigs, keepers and eligibility often gets overrated. Take the better player and win your league rather then worry what round you get a player in next season.

  117. McBainus says:

    @Grey: People in my league are taking a dump on Joyce…he is almost too hot right now, nobody will give anything decent in a straight-up trade and I am not giving him away (not sure getting a Hamels-ish type starter is realistic).
    I have 7 OF right now, so can afford get rid of two.
    I am offering Joyce and Rios for Halladay to a guy that has good pitching and a TERRIBLE outfield. Your thoughts?

    Also, if I were to offer Joyce for a closer – is there a single closer you think would be an even swap, or do I need to get more than just one for him?

    I skimmed through the comments quickly to see if anyone mentioned this, but I don’t think they did. I agree that Joyce is playing over his head, but he has 3 homers vs lefties in his last 13 at bats. Small sample size sure, but it could mean he’s developing very nicely as well. I could see him finishing the season with ~25 homers, ~10 steals, ~90R and RBI, and finish the season around .290 or .300. I don’t think you’ll get anywhere near that in return if you trade him (in most competitive leagues anyways). I understand you’re saying to explore your options with him, but I think this is one of those situations where you’re better off holding onto him, unless the offer is really good.

  123. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @Cheese: Based on the responses I am getting so far in the competitive league where I have Joyce, I think you may be right. What people are willing to give in return is nowhere near what I am willing to accept…so far, I have like 12 offers still out that I am waiting to hear back from.
    Reminds me of Bautista last year – he had to keep up his pace for a looooong time before he was worth anything (and it turns out few people got enough in return because he wasn’t such a sell-high after all).

    @j money: Tabata

    @Steve: Narveson, Dickey

    @McBainus: I’d take Halladay, no on a closer.

    @That’s What She Said: Toss up on matchups… Rubby…

    @Carl: depends how badly you need 30 homers…

    @Travesty: Depends needs… Trumbo

  126. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @Grey: What’s sick is I did offer him for Marmol and the guy rejected that trade FAST and gave a spiel about how ridiculous it was. I am going to keep making offers as long as he stays hot, but I think I am going to end up holding him and trading J. Upton for a #1 SP…I’ll give it another few weeks though.

    That being said – what do you think is fair return for J. Upton? Doubt anyone would give up a Top-5, but do you agree I shouldn’t settle for less than a Top-10 pitcher for him?

    I am not selling Pineda. His value might never be higher, but according to Fangraphs he is tied for the fastest avg fastball at 95.4 mph. His strand rate is a bit high, but his xFip is still just 3.19. It suggests some correction but maybe you can sit him for a couple of bad matchups and dodge it.

    I get Ramon Hernandez, CC Sabathia and Josh Beckett in exchange for Brian McCann and Prince Fielder. I already have Hosmer and Morse on my roster, and I could even pick up Trumbo if I wanted to. As a counter, I was thinking of asking for Jon Lester instead of Josh Beckett. Thoughts?

    Between Hunter Pence and Mike Stanton, who would you start?

    Trick question; I think I drafted too many outfielders. Any thoughts on Chris Johnson at 3rd? I think in deep leagues he’s worth a go, he’s at least as valuable as Marky Mark at this point.

    I’d sell Joyce if I thought I could get something worth selling him for, but it’s kind of like unloading an ugly virgin just because she’s a virgin. Not that I have anything against Joyce, he’s done me wonders so far.

    Closing questions: Still not feeling the Justin Smoak love? Why so much love for Eric Young Jr.? SAGNOF? Unless it now stands for Second basemen Ain’t Got No Outstanding Features I’m not quite following.

    Allen Craig sitting again today!?!?!?!…WTF is wrong with La Russa? Skip Schumaker went 0 for effing 4 last night with 2 Ks. Does skippy have compromising pictures of TLR and a farm animal?

  198. Mike says:
    (link)

    Drop Aaron Hill for Allen Craig?

  199. Wilsonian says:
    (link)

    Just got offered this deal in my 8 team H2H keeper (keep 5, no limitations):

    I get: Tulo, Jacoby, Scherzer
    I give: Andrus, Kemp, Pineda

    I’m VERY reluctant to get rid of Kemp, and Andrus has been real solid lately. What do you think? Do I counter with CarGo instead of Kemp? Or not even mess with it?

  200. Mike says:
    (link)

    Also, would you trade Ogando for Walden if you need saves?

  201. Long Bawls says:
    (link)

    What a Dublinerd.

  202. Fletch says:
    (link)

    @Grey: Blockbuster negotiations going on… this team basically wants to flip-flop our outfield for some reason – my Kemp, J. Upton and McCutchen for his Bautista, Cargo & Crawford? (my “2nd string” OF is Cruz, Stanton & Gordon)

    To me it’s almost too close to call and serves no purpose.

  203. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @Grey: Last question on this subject promise…
    I know you have Nunez slightly ahead of Walden in your most recent closer rankings, but he has blown 2 saves since. I scared another manager into offering me Nunez straight up – would you take him or Walden for Rios?
    I’m definitely taking one of the deals today, just being a puss-puss deciding which.

  204. Steve says:
    (link)

    Lind and Kendrick both back today. Nice to have my RCL team looking a little more like its regular self.

  205. bogbert says:
    (link)

    Grey, question about Lawrie over Tabata as you suggested earlier.

    For 10-team roto, do you think I’d be competitive in steals with this lineup, with Lawrie in Tabata’s place? I’m currently in 2nd in steals, with my two main competitors >20 behind me.

    Arencibia, Votto, Philips, Reynolds, J.Reyes, A.Cabrera, Smoak, Morse, McCutchen, Krispie, Rasmus, Grady, Tabata, A.Jones, Wright

  206. Derrick says:
    (link)

    Thoughts the rest of the way for Soria? Do you believe he wins the closer role back? Worth an add if he is on the wire?

  207. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @bogbert: I think you are pretty good in steals without Tabata, and think you would top-3 in most leagues.

  208. bravo says:
    (link)

    Start Billingsley @ Cin?

  209. Wilsonian says:
    (link)

    @Wilsonian: if anyone wants to chime in on this deal, feel free. I’ll listen to any advice.

  210. Steve says:
    (link)

    Come on Papelbon. Don’t be a dick.

  211. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @Steve: No dice on that one, I’m afraid. I don’t own him anywhere, and hate the Red Sox, so am actually cheering him in right now.

  212. Steve says:
    (link)

    @McBainus: He actually does seem like a bit of a dick, so I was asking a lot.

  213. Steve says:
    (link)

    @McBainus: What happened with the Pedroia error? I hate that little shit too.

  214. McBainus says:
    (link)

    Varitek and Papelbon ejected after giving up the 4 run lead…LOVE IT!!!

  215. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @Steve: I am only watching GameCast on ESPN, so don’t know exactly what happened with the Pedroia error. The fact he isn’t doing so well makes it easier for me not to completely hate the little Sparky Anklebiter…

  216. Scalez says:
    (link)

    Another day, another Allen Craig-less lineup from LaRussbag

  217. Eddy says:
    (link)

    Just want to join the frustrated owners here who have Allen Craig. I finally dropped Hill for Craig yesterday only to find that Craig wasn’t playing and Hill gets an RBI in his first AB.

    And same thing today?!

    And where the hell is Lawrie!? There better not be a hidden injury here.

  218. Steve says:
    (link)

    Kershaw starting like he owns himself and Papelbon on a fantasy team.

  219. Eddy says:
    (link)

    @Steve:

    He always knows how to mend a broken heart.

  220. ChiSox says:
    (link)

    Is giving up Hosmer and Adam Jones or Drew Stubbs too much for Papelbon in a points league?

  221. Scalez says:
    (link)

    Ron Washington should have gave Kinsler a reach-around…maybe that would have been enough affection to get him out of this horrendous skid. Hugs ain’t cutting it. Those people at Washington’s meetings are liars, hugs are not better than drugs.

  222. Cheese

    Cheese says:
    (link)

    I’m going after Votto. Which offer should I go with first? BJ Upton and Gaby Sanchez, or Joyce and Sanchez?

  223. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @Cheese: You’re not even getting closer to Votto with either of those offers, but I say they are both about even, depends on needs.

  224. Eddy says:
    (link)

    @ChiSox:

    Wait, a combination of Hosmer and Jones/Stubbs only for Papelbon?

    Please, don’t do that. Trade only Hosmer if you HAVE to, or Jones.

  225. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @ChiSox: I agree, Hosmer or Jones is fair – but no way for Stubbs, he is worth more than just a single closer.

  226. Mr2Bits says:
    (link)

    Damnit Lohse, only thing he had to do was not give up 4 runs today and he manages to do that in the 6th inning to lose the freaking QS!

  227. Steve says:
    (link)

    Aw Kershaw, that’s undone a bit of good work. Have Cueto on the same team, but still.

  228. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @Mr2Bits: I know Grey had him in last weeks Buy/Sell, but he might as well be on this week’s sell list too, he is due to fall hard and today was just the first of many, IMO.

  229. Steve says:
    (link)

    @Steve: I own Kemp too, but make it stop.

  230. Fletch says:
    (link)

    @Grey: Please rank these 5 pitchers for the rest of the season: Gallardo, Hanson, Jurrjens, Garcia & JJ

  231. Eng says:

    Sandoval or Adam Dunn?

  232. AL KOHOLIC says:
    (link)

    E.Y JR they bring him up to run yet when he gets a hit they sac him over to 2nd,,oh and you gotta love that reds offense

  233. ChiSox says:
    (link)

    @Eddy: Thanks, Closers are pretty important in this league, weekly lineups too, start 3 RPs. My offense is pretty stacked.

  234. Steve says:
    (link)

    Cueto, Kershaw and Kemp owners barely maintaining their equilibrium just now.

  235. AL KOHOLIC says:
    (link)

    @Eng: history tells us a no brainer in dunn,but i think id tank sandoval there,even the experts are doubting dunn at this point

  236. AL KOHOLIC says:
    (link)

    longo leaves with a side injury

  237. Wilsonian says:
    (link)

    @AL KOHOLIC: oh hell, are you shitting me? Does it look/sound serious?

  238. Wilsonian says:
    (link)

    @Wilsonian: just read on Rotoinfo that it doesn’t appear to be serious.

  239. Dad says:
    (link)

    8 consecutive QS’s from Bumgarner (and none with more than 2 walks). Only 2 wins to show for it, but I’m still quite glad I traded him for Fuentes a couple weeks back.

    My team can’t buy a win. I’d even take a schwinn (a “shit win” — the “t” is silent)

  240. Schmohawks Bob says:
    (link)

    Daniel Murphy or Michael Cuddyer at MI?

  241. JackInTheBox says:
    (link)

    Beltran for Jaime Garcia…which side would you want?

  242. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @JackInTheBox: Garcia, and it’s not even close. I don’t think Beltran is legit.

  243. Howard says:
    (link)

    @Grey Any hot schmotato at SS? Crawford? AGonz? Currently have Lowrie who has been yawnstipating and with Scutaro coming back who knows.

  244. Wilsonian says:
    (link)

    @Grey: what about Tulo/Ellsbury/Scherzer for Andrus/Cargo/Anibal? Too much?

  245. elwood blues says:
    (link)

    @Grey: You still like Pudge over Navarro.

    I have a trade I can say yes to that will bring me Pudge to replace Doumit as my backup catcher.. (wouldn’t be trading away anything good)

    or I can put a waiver claim on Navarro.. who seems to be getting more at-bats.. and a few hits recently.

    Gawd NL catchers are awful, aren’t they?

  246. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @Grey: Hanson or Hamels for the rest of the season?

  249. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

    @Howard: Crawford

    @Wilsonian: it’s fair

    @Elwood blues: eh, you can go Navarro.

    @McBainus: Hanson, coin flip.

    @Travis: Morse

    @the grate one: worth riding him out.

  250. bogbert says:
    (link)

    Grey, question from above, about Lawrie over Tabata as you suggested earlier.

    For 10-team roto, do you think I’d be competitive in steals with this lineup, with Lawrie in Tabata’s place (was feeling I was depending on Tabata for bags)? I’m currently in 2nd in steals, with my two main competitors >20 behind me.

    Arencibia, Votto, Philips, Reynolds, J.Reyes, A.Cabrera, Smoak, Morse, McCutchen, Krispie, Rasmus, Grady, Tabata, A.Jones, Wright

    @McBainus: Thanks for the response!

  251. elwood blues says:
    (link)

    @Grey: my other option would be kyle phillips.. but hundley is lurking.. and I need some counting stats..

  252. Wilsonian says:
    (link)

    @Wilsonian: I’m still having a tough time pulling the trigger. Do you think it’s enough of an upgrade to do? What if it was Tulo/Ellsbury/Bumgarner for Andrus/Cargo/Pineda?

  253. Fletch says:
    (link)

    @Grey: Cahill, I. Kennedy or Romero?

  254. Fletch says:
    (link)

    I just had a couple offers thrown my way …. offered Carpenter for Cruz or Cain for McCutchen. I may counter and offer Cruz for Cain or Gordon for Carpenter…thoughts?

  255. BKK says:

  258. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

    @Bogbert: you should be.

    @Elwood blues: forget him.

    @Wilsonian: I don’t see that point if these trades but they’re fair.

    @Fletch: Gordon for Carp is fine… I’m in SF visiting Poppa Albright.

    @K!cks: Smoak

  259. the grate one says:

    corey patterson, jj hardy, daniel murphy, ryan roberts, lomo

    (link)

    @Grey: see,that’s what I was looking for. To hear that it was unnecessary. It was just offered to me, so I just thought I’d look into it. Thanks man.

  263. Grey

    Grey says:

    Hi Grey, three lineup questions if you please:

    5*5 roto, looking mostly for HRs and Rs:

    Choose one 3B to play:

    Glass Chipper: 3 @ FLA, 3 @ HOU
    Cuddyer: 3 @ CLE, 4 v TEX

    Choose one Utility to play:

    Rajai Davis: 4 @ KC, 3 v BOS
    Coco Crisp: 3 @ BAL, 4 @ CWS
    F. Freeman: 3 @ FLA, 3 @ HOU

    Choose one SP to play (having 2 starts is a mild advantage, but not a deal-clincher)

    Shields: @ LAA
    Matusz: v OAK, v TB

    Thanks!!

  272. dave says:

    10 team keeper… I’ve been offered Greinke,Stanon and T Hudson for Pineda and Nelson Cruz. Pull the trigger???

  273. Mr2Bits says:

    Grey : Have Lind and Kendrick both coming off the DL which two players below would you lose? I was thinking one offensive player and one pitcher. I am in a QS/OBP league.

    Sizemore(so-so power but never steals)
    Damon(an OBP machine lately plus has slam and legs potential)

    Correia(QS machine but lack of K’s)
    Porcello(worried we will see Porcello of old soon)
    Collmenter(sneaky good this season)

    Thanks in advance

  274. Matt says:

    (link)

    @Grey: Drop Avila or Lucroy for Olivo?

    @Fletch: Depends on needs, but as rare as power is…Stanton!!!

  280. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

    @Steve: depends on your options.

    @the shit: Morrow

    @Al: Cuddyer, Davis, Shields…

    @dave: I’d take grienke.

    @Mr2Bits: Correia, Sizemore

    @Matt: yup

    @Wilsonian: Scherzer

    @chata: Ha

    @Fletch: Stanton

    @McBainus: Eh

  281. Fletch says:
    (link)

    Is Phillips and Cruz too much to give up for Cano?

  282. Holliday or Ellsbury going forward for rest of year? Also, what is your take on Hellickson? Ride it out or sell him at peak value? Innings limitations ahead for him? Yes, that’s a question…ha

  283. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Fletch: Too much.

    @JoshC: Holliday… He’ll be limited so it depends what you can get.

    Ugga or Fowler.. who’s more likely to turn it around??

  285. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @Grey: Give up Joyce for Scherzer? Also, rank these OF for ROS performance: Joyce, Bourn, Gardner, LoMo.

  286. McBainus says:

    @Grey: Scott Baker a decent spot start @Cleveland tomorrow (against Josh Tomlin)?

  287. elwood blues says:

    will Uggla turn it around ?

    any idea as to why wilson betemit hasn’t been in the starting line-up lately ?

  292. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

    @Elwood blues: He should.

    @McBainus: I’d take Scherzer. Lomo, Joyce, Bourn… He’s fine for tomorrow…

    @Howard: Rizzo

    @chata: no one will give him playing time.

  293. Doug Ault says:
    (link)

    @Grey: Is Joyce a fair return for Pineda?

  295. Grey

    Grey says:

    @McBainus: it’s fair, depends what you need. I’d prefer Marcum.

  296. Terrence Mann says:

    @Terrence Mann: Kuroda

  298. McBainus says:

    (link)

    @McBainus: Joyce

  300. McBainus says:
    (link)

    @Grey: Billingsley a decent pickup for my Util spot?

  302. Mr2Bits says:

    Bah. Another sonavabenching at the hands of Mini Donkey.

  306. Feeding the Abscess

    Travis says:
    (link)

    Like Napoli, sit him and forget about him. If you have Reynolds, you’re punting average at 3B. His plate discipline and swinging strike rate are down (his K rate won’t return to 40% levels), his BABIP is slightly low, and his HR/FB rate is also low. As it heats up in Baltimore, so will he.

    @tgg21: I’d take Young.

    @Eng: Eh

    I’m getting slightly worried about Tabata losing playing time to Paul.

    @Grey: thanks man. You think Morse has cooled off a bit now to lose him in an 8 team league?

  318. Eng says:
    (link)

    Start Danks tomorrow night versus Mariners who have Pineda throwing? I’d like a win!

  319. Wilsonian says:
    (link)

    @Grey: so you wouldn’t drop him for Bourn if you needed steals?

    Also, would you rather have JP over Napoli? Seems like JP is a little more consistent.

  320. Eng says:
    (link)

    Also, would you rather own Sandoval or Adam Dunn? Thanks and enjoy the rest of your Sunday bud.

  321. Ryan Theriot or Endy Chavez?

  322. Wilsonian says:
    (link)

    @Wilsonian: now that Morse hit a slam, I think he’ll stay. Maybe I’ll drop Peavy instead. Don’t really trust him anyway.

  323. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

    @Eng: Danks would too, but I wouldn’t start him.

    @Wilsonian: Sure, drop Peavy. I’d put Napoli in my lineup and never look at him again.

    @Eng: Dunn… You too.

    @Bazzrall: Theriot

  330. Nick says:
    (link)

    @Grey: Espinosa or D Murphy going forward?

  331. Nick says:
    (link)

    @Grey: I know your going to say Espinosa so just answer this question, should I start Scherzer tomorrow v. Texas after his last 2 terrible starts? I had Andersen blow up my ERA yesterday but I know Gio will balance it out tmr in baltimore…

    When is the right time to pick up Mike Adams? It’s a 12-team league, about two other managers are on the ball with saves. Then again, Twitter makes it almost impossible for them to beat me to the punch, but still.

    Also, do you agree that Bell will be traded or no?

    @Terrence Mann: Hehe

    @Eddy: I just went over my thoughts on Bell. I wouldn’t pick Adams up until the beginning of July on spec.

    @Grey: Hey now. Having just been absolutely drilled in my H2H matchup this week, I’m giving some serious thought to going relievers-only, to try and lock up WHIP/ERA/Saves/Holds each week.

    The only starting pitcher I have that’s worth more than a bag of used golf balls is Gallardo. What’s a reasonable return for him, hitting-wise?

    @Grey: Also, from this day forward, do you prefer Konerko or Morneau?

    @Grey: I can only start 4 of these 5… Kemp, Tex, Stanton, Cruz and J. Upton …touch decision…I actually thought about benching Tex or Upton since they only draw 6 games this week.

    Grey:

    can u rank these players for the near future in a h2h league:

    Allan Craig, Daniel Murphy and Andres Torres. Have Craig, but his weird playing time for the last week has been frustrating. Thanks!

    Also, in h2h, would u rather have bartlett or Hardy as a waiver replacement for Rollins?

    I just wanna bitch for a second… in one of my H2H matchups this week I hit 16 homeruns and drove in 46 runs…and I lost both categories. Ridiculous.

    @Steve: Number 1 to 2 OF, Zimmerman, Hanley, those types.

    @Steve: Konerko

    @Fletch: Cruz

    @Joel: Torres, Craig…

    @Joel: Bartlett

    Had an 11-1 lead against the 1st place team in my league coming into today…ended up winning 8-5. Blew leads in WHIP, ERA, Ws, and RBIs. If you told me coming into the week I could win 8-5, I’d have taken it, but its not nearly as satisfying now. Oh well, on to a new week.

    Grey & Co….what do you make of Allen Craig’s playing time situation? Would you guys drop him in favor of Cody Ross, Hosmer, or Justin Turner?

    @grey- I am in a 12 team H2H mixed league. I just got offered kershaw for my cueto and andrus? I know this seems like a must accept but if I do, I would not only lose a lot of steals (I have pence,J-up, Wright, but nobody really else) and I would have no SS. I could however pick up somebody like nishikoya. Should I accept the trade or try to get a different offer?

    @Grey: An injured Holliday?

    Upton or McCutchen rest of season?

    Timmy or F-Her?

    @Martin:

    hope he tells you that he wouldn’t even consider doing that deal .

    @WDE05: Hosmer

    @Martin: Doesn’t seem like a ‘must accept.’ It’s fair, depends if you can lose Andrus.

    @Steve: Yeah, that’s not bad.

    @Fletch: Justin Upton…Lincecum

    Pineda + my 2012 14th rd pick for Jhoulys Chacin + Michael Young + his 2012 28th rd pick…

    No brainer, right? Beckham and Jeter have been killing me at MI. Already have Verlander and maybe Strasburg as SP keepers.
