@miller, Thanks; again, people seem to equate Dickey with Wakefield for a long time, as there really was no other pitcher to compare him with. And Wakefield, of course, was completely erratic in his results. Dickey is a new kind of knuckleball pitcher, who will also reward owners with strikeouts and a low WHIP, which probably hasn’t occurred since the day of Hoyt Wilhelm, and Hoyt pitched far before the age of fantasy.

@Stoops, Yes, the parallel is with close minded fantasy anaylysts and managers. Dickey could have been picked off many leagues free agent rosters until fairly recently. After the 2nd no-no in a row, I imagine all leagues had him rostered at 100%. But for much of the season, my wife and I streamed him. After one outing I told my wife that perhaps she should keep him, as he was several cuts above the typical pitching streamer.

@Chris J, Thanks. I would agree. There is certainly a possibility that he will be even better next year. There has been a steday progression of excellence over the last several years. It will be interesting to see how Dickey fairs in the draft next season. I believe that he is a low injury risk because of the lack of stress that a knuckleball puts on one’s throwing arm.

Thanks for the post.

I just traded Kubel for Dickey a couple of days ago (6×6 roto with OPS & Holds), so I’ll be extra interested to see how he fares in the second half. It took me awhile to get over the notion that he couldn’t serve as better than a #5 in a weakish 2003-04 Ranger rotation. I must have ignored him altogether the past couple of years despite the decent looking results.

I like Dickey because he reminds me of a guy straight out of moneyball; the stats hold up but everything about his makeup is unorthodox so closed minded GMs have passed until his greatness punches them right in the face. Great for RA for proving all those guys wrong and finding redemption.

Pablo it is in the elbow…Tommy John surgery. Yes he is good for baseball….and I would trade Big Donkey for him…lol. Anyway the Deadball Division is 35-10 against the rest of the league. I vote for realignment next year…lol.

Hi, Vin. Yes, Dickey could be an alien. Aliens don’t require URL’s, apparently.

Trade all three for Plouffe! Plouffer-nutter is the bomb! Then again, Plouffe could be an alien as well. I follow the sport pretty closely. Where the heck did Plouffe come from? From whence did he appear? See, got ya!

As for this week’s sleeper, pick up Vinnie Rottino, who should reappear from the minors this week. He has conections with the Sopranos as well as making guest appearances on Jersey Shore.

Could be wrong…but I believe you meant Tommy John surgery, as that is when they repair the UCL in the elbow…

I think you mean that he will never need UCL “Tommy John” surgery. RA could still injure his shoulder and require rotator cuff surgery.
