It’s Saturday morning while I’m putting this post together, which means that the Minor League Baseball season is just two days old, and during those two days, we’ve had some bullshizz weather and a whole slew of postponements.  This is all to say that there just aren’t too many accomplishments to speak of just yet — we’ll save those for the week 2 post.  For this week, then, let’s run through some notable prospect assignments, team by team.  For those of you tracking your dynasty league players, this should help sort out which box scores to keep an  eye on.  We’ll go in the order of my organization fantasy rankings.

FYI, Nick Franklin is at AAA Tacoma. He should probably have an eye kept on him

    • @Yeezus: Updated. Good call — I included him on my stash list on Wednesday, but because he’s graduated, he slipped my mind for this post… thanks!

  2. costaricanchata says:

    yeah . yeah . yeah .
    it’s early yet .
but heaney better get his shizz together
    and soon .

  3. Em says:

Who should I keep on my roster Erasmo or Bucholtz? Do you think Erasmo will have an innings cap later in the year, should I consider that before dropping Erasmo?

    • Em says:
      (link)

@Em: one more thing, santos or broxton?

      • @Em: Santos. Smokey is the late innings master around here, so best check with him too…

    • @Em: Erasmo is pretty well stretched out. I’d hold him over Buchholz.

  4. Joey Belle says:
    (link)

Is Zimmer hurt or something? WTF is extended spring training anyways?

    • @Joey Belle: He’s nursing an elbow thing… not much detail on the injury. ExST is where clubs will allow banged up players to rehab or keep young prospects down for further instruction before short season leagues begin in June.

  5. Razzball is great but last year your prospect post helps me win the league, so a Big THANKS to you.

I’m in a 12 team 5×5, H2H league that only lets you pick up 3 guys off the wire on Mondays and I have a bunch of moves I want to make. Could you take a look at my team and the guys I am looking at and let me know who you would pick up with the moves?
    My Team:
    W. Rasmo (DL)
    Eric Hosmer
    Robinson Canó
    Cody Asche
    Jean Segura
    José Bautista
    Wil Myers
    Andrew McCutchen
    Mark Trumbo
    Michael Brantley

    Max Scherzer
    Justin Masterson
    Hyun-jin Ryu
    Jake Peavy
    Randall Delgado
    Rick Porcello
    Hisashi Iwakuma (DL)
    Josh Johnson (DL)
    Ernesto Frieri
    Casey Janssen (DL)

    Mike Zunino
    Justin Smoak
    Dee Gordon
    Anthony Rendón
    Jonathan Broxton
    Josh Fields
    Tyler Skaggs
    Nathan Eovaldi

    • Wallpaper Paterson says:
      (link)

@Buhner: Add skaggs, a catcher and either eovaldi or fields. I like Rendon, but you don’t need him.

  6. Nelson says:
    (link)

I’m basing this strictly off of 2 appearances each, but do either Aaron Barrett or Jean Machi have a chance to be absolutely dominant relievers/possible closers by next year?

    • @Nelson: The late innings guys are the toughest to forecast. RP happenings are very nearly unpredictable. This is all to say that, sure, anything can happen.

  7. 740 says:

Nice article. Hey guys, Cole Hamels was dropped in my league think he’s worth a stash? 10 team roto 5×5 cat.

    Thanks

  8. English says:
    (link)

Hey Scott. I’ve been offered Mark Appel, Jose Peraza and Joe Kelly for Anthony Rizzo. I’m not going to be contending this year in a deep 30 team dynasty. Is this a good enough offer?

I have Mike Olt and Starlin Castro so looking to diversify.

  9. Monster mash says:

Hey would you drop Christian yelich for either Nolan arenando , leonys Martin, kole Calhoun, Charlie Blackmon, Emilio bonifacio, Dustin ackley , Corey hart, Lucas duda, Ike Davis, Jackie Bradley jr, Adam eaton, dee Gordon

Here’s the rest of my team

    Catcher: Carlos Santana

    Of- Matt Holliday

    Of- hunter pence

    Of- victorino (DL)

    Utility- Martin prado

Bench- yelich, salvador Perez, andrelton Simmons

Would you drop either Alexi Ramirez or andrelton Simmons for either Chris owings, brad miller, Asdrubal Cabrera , dee Gordon, Jimmy Rollins, Or Jonathan villar?

Who do you think could be this Seasons jean segura? Or puig, a waiver wire add that can really help out your team

Thanks for the insight last season, great to be back!

    • @Monster mash: Most of my pre-season posts are spent trying to identify this year’s version of Puig/Segura/etc. Do read them.

      • Monster mash says:
        (link)

        @Scott Evans:

Thanks man, I’ll give that a read.

Would you drop either Andrelton Simmons or Alexi Ramirez for either Chris owings, brad miller , dee Gordon (he’s listed as SS on ESPN but I think he will have 2b eligibility soon), Derek Jeter, jimmy Rollins, asdrubal cabrera

  10. Shake N Bacon says:

Do you see Cecchini getting called up with MIddlebrooks about to go no the 15-day DL with a calf strain? Jonny Herrera cannot be their temporary answer….can he?

    • @Shake N Bacon: It’s in the back of my mind, but I’m not sure he’s quite ready… still, not counting it out.

      • Shake N Bacon says:
        (link)

@Scott Evans: Yeah. I’ve heard decent things about him. I have middlebrooks in an RCL and was trying to figure out a replacement for him.

I’m just surprised my angels have anyone in the minors… and I curse poo-holes and hammy every day.

  12. Swfcdan says:

    Tiple-A Iowa, that’s a new one ha.

Are these players listed in order of scott likeyness too? If so great to see I’ve got 4 org’s top prospects (Scottspects?) on one of my teams. Big thanks to you man! Have nabbed Crick, N Williams, and Alfaro in recent times for nothing.

    • listed in the order they appeared in respective T10’s. three nice gets for your farm.

  13. elipitt says:

Is it worth stashing Baez in a standard mixed redraft league? Any chance he comes up before June?

  14. The Thumb says:
    (link)

    Hey Scott,

Gut feeling, who’s better in the mlb this year, Polanco or Taveras. How close?
    Thanks!

    • I think Taveras is better equipped for immediate success.

  15. Tommy John for Taillon. Out for season. Major bummer.

  16. Big D says:
    (link)

I’m sure you’ve answered this somewhere else, but do you think Buxton is the starting CF for Minnesota coming out of the gate in 2015, or do you think he is a June call up next summer? Trying to decide whether to stash him now or not. I’m in an AL-only keeper league but with only 2 bench spots it is tough to stash a guy for that long and stay competitive in the meantime. Buxton is probably worth it though…

    • @Big D: I think summer 2015 arrival is most likely.

  17. scooter jacobsen says:
    (link)

Hey Scott…what are your thoughts on Micah Johnson 2B Chicago White Sox?

    • @scooter jacobsen: He’s fast. Hit tools ins’t wonderful & he’s a little old for where he’s at developmentally, but there could be some value with him if everything comes together…

    • Swfcdan says:
      (link)

@Swfcdan: Damn didn’t break the news first, finding out before Scott would be something ha.

How does this change his prospect status Scott? The league I have him in is a very deep’un, with 16 teams and 10 man systems, so he isn’t goin anywhere from my team.

      • @Swfcdan: Changes his stock drastically. I’ll have notes aplenty next sunday…

  18. MB says:
    (link)

In dynasty, is arenado, lenoys and one of the below prospects enough for beltre?

    prospects: franco, giolito, alcantara

    Thanks

    • Swfcdan says:
      (link)

@MB: Franco and you’re looking pretty tasty. Beltre is like 36, can’t go on forever. I like it a lot (but im no Scott).

    • @MB: Giolito would make it doable

  19. Luis says:
    (link)

Thoughts on Victor Sanchez? He’s really young and beginning the year at AA. Like, do you think he’ll make his way up prospect lists this year if he continues to pitch well?

  20. Pj says:
    (link)

Which player in this years MLB draft will be the first drafted by an NL team?
What Percent confidence du you have ?

    • @Pj: Beede… Rodon… Aiken… me? 100% confidence on this call.

      • Pj says:
        (link)

Thanks but I meant who will be the first NL pick?
Rondon will go to the AL (Houston)
        Thx!

        • Rodon to Houston is likely, but no guarantee. Then again, maybe you’re buddies with Jeff Luhnow or something and you’re privy to their draft strategy.

  21. Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
    (link)

damn good thing i read this as i’m about to draft an NL only tomorrow and had no idea Taillon was even injured at all. what about velasquez ? (AA?). and why is buxton only at High A? last why isn’t souza listed for WAS?

  22. Eng says:

Love your columns, Scott. Good to see you back for 2014. I have a request, it may be tricky but I’d love your insight. Say you were in a keeper league, how would you rate the following pitchers for the next 5 years: Minor, Moore, Miller, Gausman, Tillman, Cole.

I’m wondering what their true talent level is and how high their upside is as fantasy K whip and era assists.

    • Cole, Miller, Moore, Gausman, Tillman, Minor … frankly, though, all have promising & productive careers ahead of them…
