0Valentine’s Day is coming early this year! For a limited time only, get your loved one a fantasy baseball league! That’s right, your hearts go pitter-patter or you’re dead on the inside (my condolences). Since back in June when you abandoned your fantasy baseball team because it was totally sucking and you returned to your cubbyhole of leftover Chinese food and Teddy Grahams, you’ve longed for this day. As Bob Marley sang, this is your redemption song, mon. Or womon, for our four girl readers. It’s time again to join some fantasy baseball leagues. Before you close all of your extraneous porn windows and rush to sign up, let’s explain how these fantasy baseball leagues are going to work. We’re going to have a bunch of leagues and crown a winner from each, then we’re going to crown ONE winner from all of the winners. We will be crowning the winner by taking each team’s points and multiplying it against a ‘league competitiveness factor.’ If you want to see how it worked last year, go here. So we’re going to fill up as many fantasy leagues as we can for the next couple of weeks. Each fantasy baseball league will be a mixed league, 12 team, snake draft, roto, 5×5, 5 OFs, one Middle Infielder, one Corner Infielder, one Utility, 9 pitchers, 20 game eligibility, 180 Games Started max, 1000 IP minimum. The lineup is also known as: C/1B/2B/SS/3B/CI/MI/5 OF/UTIL/9 P/3 BENCH/1 DL. The fantasy leagues will be played in ESPN and they will be free to join.
We’re going to start with twenty-one leagues of 12 and see how we do from there. To join a league… Sorry, again for the people in the back of the room:

Click the LINK in the ‘League Link’ column (see below grid) and enter the PASSWORD at ESPN. Emails are there for some leagues, but you shouldn’t need to email anyone.
TO START A LEAGUE
Please create a league in ESPN based on the league rules reference above (note: require a password to avoid non-Razzballers joining) and click here. You will be permissioned shortly so you can add your league info to the Google Doc (the below grid cannot be edited from this page). On that Google Doc, you will need to enter your name, league link, password and please UPDATE the number of openings as your league fills up. That’s it. Oh, and don’t use your bank account password.

Cant get some Yahoo! leagues this year..?
@Brauns Baby Daddy: All the smarts that Rudy has developed for stats collection and calculation, has been written for ESPN – too much work required to re-code it all for Yahoo. Plus the default ESPN roster is more of a traditional roto roster, and makes for a deeper league.
All true except VinWins has done all the automation for RCL. I just help in terms of competitive indexing and displaying the standings on the site.
@Steve: Plus I think Yahoo blocks non-league members from viewing league data, so even VinWins were to redo his work Yahoo wouldn’t let him pull anything.
@The Dude: Not true. Last year they first allowed you to publicly publish your league stats.
I wonder if there’s any chance ESPN has actually worked on making substitutions easier.
I could live without the aggregate stats if someone wanted to start a rogue Yahoo league. All that would be different would be player eligibility.

Kudos to the new system. It was always fun to wake up to 30 emails and have to answer all of them, but it got tedious after a while!
Anyways, I’m Eddy, the one using the $10 entry. I’ve done this for the last couple of years and it’s worked perfectly! I use LeagueSafe, an FDIC-insured website and it’s never failed.

no rules against it. if you can find 11 locals, go for it. there are no limitations against participants in RCL as long as the league follows the general league rules (and of course there’s no collusion amongst the drafters).

Well, here it is.. It seems that my Suzanne Somers look-a-like ( the one I’ve told you about) finally succeeded in breaking into my house over the weekend while I was out (He had made repeated attempts at this over the last couple of weeks) …
Somehow, he feels spurned and is not taking to rejection well (they make Hollywood movies about stuff like this)…
After all, it was just a couple beers, a few laughs and some heavy gett’n-to-know-ya FBB talk at a Fantasy Sports bar – and now, it’s like we are supposed to be life partners or something …
I never even touched him – HONEST!!!!
Anyways, to make a long story short, it seems he (my, Suzanne Somers look-a-like) posted Rudy on his Draft Kit thread over the weekend using my puter and name… Writing some horrible and most untrue things about you… Things, that I would never dream about writing about you – as you may have figured out already, you are now my steady FBB go-to-guy…
Please, believe me… I didn’t do it…
Let me tell you, it was shockingly eerie to come home to find my bed and bathroom strewn with strange lingerie (not mine), cosmetic containers (not mine) and a powerful mix of perfumes (not mine)… That’s when I saw the Hot Pink lipstick message left to me on the mirror in my bathroom… It read, “Payback is a bitch, Asshole!! Look at your computer!!! – XOXO, S.S.”
Horror of horrors, it was left turned on to Rudy’s thread’s comments… The one in my name… Needless to say, I was shocked and sicked….
I felt and still do feel violated!!! Unclean!!!!…
And at the back of my mind, I keep thinking this would have never happened if I hadn’t packed Mr Miyagi off to that Vet Home in Texas (feeling guilty and rightly served now) – Bad Karma!!!..
Must do some clean up now… How does one get rid of that perfume smell (mine won’t cover it up – tried that)???… The windows are wide open and it’s freezing outside…

Moore at $15 or Posey at $15? Moore’s price is locked for 2 years, Posey’s for 2013 only.
I own Posey right now but I’m going to try to deal him for a pick which I would then use to deal for Moore… not sure if that will work out but it’s worth a try, I think.

Simple Draft Question… Can Pitchers be bench players???
The break down on the team page shows the bench players under the POS. section… Does this mean the bench slots can only be used for Position players????
It shows pitchers only with 9 slots and no bench…

Although, the added amount of coolness the Razzball Member’s Only jacket will give you is immeasurable and probably the difference between you getting in the Viper Room and not (is the Viper Room still a hot club? OK, I’m trying to fill a $150 5×5 ROTO 12 team modified slow draft league on Yahoo. 100% Payouts, top 4 paid, standard 5×5 with saves + holds replacing the standard saves category. Leaguesafe used to hold the money, and the slow draft starts on 3/1/13. I say modified, as 4 hours are allotted for each pick rather than the traditional 24 or 12.

@Grey: Truthfully, being a Commish is an easy job in the RCL. After you set up the league, fill the league with members, and get a draft date, your work is essentially done. The Commish, at least in private leagues, hasn;t any power do do anything. Maybe intervene in an occasional flareup between managers. It is an easy job.

Dynasty question here. I’m the lucky owner of a $1 Manny Machado and a $1 Wil Myers. I could be sitting on a fantasy goldmine here. Thoughts on trading both of these guys for a $15 Adam Jones and a $30 Cole Hamels? Traditional 5×5 league here. The thought of going for it this year with Jones and Hamels seems tempting, but the upside for Machado and Myers is SO JUICY.
I’d split it up… Take Jones for Machado or Myers and hold the other and forget Hamels…
In a keeper league that counts AVG, OPS, FPCT, R, HR, RBI, SB, and TB, which player do you like better, Jemile Weeks or Dee Gordon? Or, since they were both awful last year, which one do you dislike less?
I joined a league, First time playing Rotissierre and not h2h or points leagues. Any suggestions will be helpful, I have been reading up. If every one is using Grey’s rankings, How do you get an edge? Still trying to get my head around max games started and innings pitched. Does everyone wait till 5th round to draft Verlander? LOL
The draft is a big component of success as is active in-season roster management. Grabbing up closers is essential. Not being too stubborn about keeping drafted hitters/pitchers is important tool.
Grey’s rankings and the $ estimates should help during the draft but no one follows them to an absolute tee. Just try to draft the best team possible and zig when others zag.

Zig when others zag. It’s been said 1000 times, but it remains so underrated. Most people tend to get so caught up with who they are drafting into their own team to notice what the other managers are doing during the draft. Zig on, Rudy.

not sure that hurts stubbs that much as they could move swisher to first and reynolds to DH. mlbdepthcharts still has a Rule 5 pick (Chris McGuiness) as the DH and he sounds too much like an English actor to be a legitimate hitter (no offense English Dans)
@Rudy Gamble: that is exactly what I was thinking, swish to 1st and reynolds to dh, unless they have another trade in mind. Seems like a lot of excessive speed in that outfield. Could brantley end up being the odd man out or will stubbs nack for sucking over long periods make a platoon of both?
I think safest bet is about 120 games started for Brantley, Reynolds and Stubbs with Swisher and Bourn getting getting similar games played to last year. Reynolds is enough of a butcher at 3B that hopefully Chisenhall gets a full season to prove himself.

I’m in a 5 of, 2 catcher league with 3 keepers and no bench and I’m already keeping Braun at $25 and CarGo at$20. Dilemma is surrounding my third keeper – a full year of Medlen @ $6, or Wil Myers @6 who is catcher eligible, but will require me keeping an empty slot at catcher until he’s called up. He may be a future keeper for a stacked outfield?

Once again – Being a Commish is a relatively easy job. Just set up the league, get twelve players for a team, get a draft date, and your job is basically over, except to mediate between a potential flare-up between managers. Unlike Yahoo, the commish has no powers whatsoever; he can’t manipulate rosters, change original settings, etc. It is REALLY IMPORTANT to get Commisioners, as there can’t be RCL’s without them. And my league, the ECFBL,wants as many RCL’s as possible so we can whip their butt, as we have the last two years.
And speaking of the best leagues – I personally think that there should be some reward, perhaps a virtual acknowledgement, of the best league in the RCL’s. Since the ECFBL has won the championship handidly over the last two years, because of the competitive nature of the league, it is virtually impossible to win the individual award. Just something to ponder and think about, since the ECFBL not only walloped the other RCL’s, but the EXPERT league as well.

Anyone else having trouble adding a second owner? It won’t let me in our league – Something Something Mustache. ESPN says that this option only exists in League Manager Leagues… is this a setting that can changed after the league is full?
@Raftman: So you have an ESPN Custom League, not a League Manager League, right? Unfortunately, I think once you create the league with whichever league type you select, you cannot change it. But maybe somebody else will chime in with better info…

@Raftman: Actually, it doesn’t look I’ll be able to since, if it’s a League Manager League, I have to individually invite all the teams which really wouldn’t work for the Google Doc set-up. Oh well.
@Raftman: If the league is full (or once the league is full), you can start a new league (a League Manager league), invite everyone that joined the old league (telling them why you’re doing it) and then discard the old league… Just make sure everyone is on board with the switch and you update us with the link to the new league…

@Raftman:Yeah, that would be a hassle… Just fill the league, then email the league that you’re switching it to a League Manager and re-invite everyone… Then discard old league and update link in this Spreadsheet… That would work…
@Raftman: If you can get the rest of the league on board, then either you or the league commissioner could start a League Manager league. Everyone would have to understand they need to email you for an invite, since you don’t have their addresses.
You could also give your friend your ESPN password, and he would be able to log in as you and make moves.
@VinWins: You know, that’s what I’m going to do. I don’t want to create a hassle for anyone else. I’ll just have him logon as me.

How does one set 180 Games Started max, 1000 IP minimum?
@GT: under games played (maximums) category I can set it to 2340 total games played and enforce by position (180 each), but I don’t see a minimum IP setting.
