We at Razzball realize that exporting our views across the country has damaging consequences on the blogosphere. To help make amends, we are reaching out to leading team blogs and featuring their locally blogged answers to pressing 2012 fantasy baseball questions regarding their team. We feel this approach will be fresher, more sustainable, and require less energy consumption (for us anyway). The 2012 Royals Fantasy Baseball Preview comes courtesy of Jeff Zimmerman from Royals Review.
1) Okay, let’s of excitement from me to you for the Royals. Frankly, I’m joyous about a bunch of these guys. With that said (here comes the downer-shizz), two guys I worry about are Frenchy and Alex Gordon. I’m sure Gordon will be fine from a real baseball standpoint, so I’ll leave him alone. Frenchy though. 22 steals? That seems like his ceiling tore off its roof and constructed a new ceiling 100 feet above the last ceiling. Is there any chance he even comes close to 22 steals again?
Not 22, but don’t expect a huge drop off. Ned Yost loves stolen bases, so Frenchy will continue to get the green light.
2) Joakim Soria gets 20 saves — true or false and why? Jonathan Broxton gets 15 saves — true or false and why? Greg Holland is actually next in line — true or false and why?
Soria – yes on 20 saves. He pitched a ton better once he dropped his cutter after the first 2 months. Broxton – no on 15 saves. He is a huge wild card since it has been over a year since he has pitched decently. Holland is currently behind Soria and Broxton as the 7th inning guy according to Yost. He was the best pitcher of the 3 last season. A reliever to keep an eye on is Kelvin Herrera. He has dominated in the minors the last couple of season.
3) I already went over my Eric Hosmer 2012 fantasy. Care to add anything?
2 additions. First, Kaufman Stadium, suppresses HRs for LHH quite a bit. Only 3 of the 19 HRs Hosmer hit last season were at home. Second, the walk rate, especially when removing the IBB, was historically low for player of his ability and age.
4) Lorenzo Cain plays this year, right? This isn’t just you guys teasing us again with his upside, is it? What do you expect of him?
Right now the team has slated him to start in CF. The team has stated long term plans for him leading off. I expect around a 0.280 AVG with 20 SBs. The big question will be his power. He displayed HR power for the first time with 16 HRs in AAA (PCL). If he brings this power to the majors, expect HRs in the mid-teens.
5) The recent crop of Royal prospects has created a sense of hope for long-time Royals fans. What is the most likely unintended consequence of this hope?
A) An insatiable demand for throwback Hal McRae and U.L. Washington jerseys.
B) Royal fans actually start to enjoy games vs. medicate themselves with sabermetrics (see Bill James, Rob Neyer, Joe Poz, etc.)
C) A resurgences of awful pun headlines about Royals wins like KC Masterpiece and KC Gives <team> The Royal Treatment.
D) Owner David Glass is so moved by the team’s success that he decides to break from Wal*Mart tradition and offer health care to employees.
B – The Royals maybe the most sabermetically followed team.

Wow big news re Hosmer, with the lack of home homers, and low walk rate. If he’s chasing pitches it could leave him vulnerable to some sort of sophmore slump? Not saying anything drastic, but is it worth easing off on our Hosmer love-fest a little now that we know this? 3-16HR split is craaazzy.
@TheNewGuy, Ya that wasn’t alot of love given to hosmer there….
@TheNewGuy, Yeah, he was throwing some probably much needed caution into the wind.
I was hoping for more on the young rotation that is supposedly about to take off. Got any titbits for me there?
@Bourne, The young arms did not take much of a step forward at all last year. Lamb had Tommy John surgery, Montgomery was terrible, Chris Dwyer can’t throw strikes. Danny Duffy is the only potential starter who made it to the big leagues last year (aside from maybe Aaron Crow but he has never shown he can pitch well in a starting role). He (Duffy) was below average at best, but showed signs of potential. I don’t know how close he is but he does seem to have ‘it’ to some extent.
I don’t know if they are considered ‘about to take off’ anymore..
@Bobby from KC, I agree, though paulino isn’t bad. I don’t think they or anyone in the al central can compete with the tigers without a stronger rotation
No moustakas questions?
@Skeptic, I went over him at one point:
http://razzball.com/moustakas-keeps-fine-just-use-tin-foil/
@Grey, I know and it was excellent. I was wondering if your were going to ask about the locals’ take on him.
@Skeptic, I didn’t, no.
I love these pieces. I know they’re not what drives traffic to the site, but I wish we could get one for each team.
Watched S1W and your spoiler didn’t detract from the episode whatsoever. I knew last week that Mickey Rourke’s sister wasn’t going to last very long with the “we’re young and pretty” alliance around.
Colton got very lucky that his tribe was split right down the middle, so he could pick a side, show the idol, and then be safe for a while. I wouldn’t give him too much credit. He knew he was the swing vote from day 1 (he told one of the girls), but he didn’t think to make that play until he was thoroughly booted from the ladies’ camp. And even then I don’t think he fully realized the strategy of it until it was all done… genius by stupidity, I say. Doode has no chance in the game overall.
@Awesomus Maximus, I wish I could get one for each team too, but it’s hard to coordinate with a blogger for every team. S1W: Good, glad you could still enjoy it. Colton’s a flipping idiot who stepped in it. He’s no great strategist. But I’m not sure he’s gonna go home that quickly either way. You still haven’t told me who you think is gonna win. Mickey Rourke’s sister: ha!
@Grey, Yeah, I imagine that they’re barely worth the effort, but it’s always nice to have a little variety.
Gahd… I have no clue. I tend to like players who fly under the radar, players who aren’t getting any air time until we’re near the merge. I’ll just throw a random guess at Jonas.
@Awesomus Maximus, I actually almost chose Jonas, I like that choice. That’s the sushi chef right?
@Grey, Yep. And I think he wore/brought his chef’s uniform on Survivor (or, I should say, the producers chose for him to wear his chef’s uniform).
@Awesomus Maximus, Yeah, and made him wear his sushi chef headband. Surprised they haven’t said anything about a little person being on the show.
@Grey, I was thinking about that when I was watching the episode, too. I’m sure plenty was said in the first six days of filming, but it’s odd that they’ve chosen to not include any of the discussion in the first two episodes.
@Awesomus Maximus, Oh, I’m sure too that plenty was said about it and they choose not to air it. Surprising… I’m sure the ditzy blonde girl was probably talking about it non-stop at first.
@Grey, I’m sure she droned on about everything at some point by Day 3.
@Awesomus Maximus, I did like when she was saying she’s the keeper of the fire. So stupid…
@Grey, While running away from a bug. Classic stupid.
Good Morning Grey. Need your advice. 10 team 5×5 keeper league and need to choose six of these fools. I have adjusted their round as its a plus one round from where they were drafted last year and I lose the round I keep the player in. Below are my initial thoughts.
2 from here
Miguel Cabrera – 1st – Keeper
Prince Fielder – 2nd – Keeper
José Reyes – 2nd
Brandon Phillips – 3rd
Brian McCann – 4th
Clayton Kershaw – 5th
2 more from here( or 0-1 and carry over to the next tier)
Mark Reynolds – 10th
Mariano Rivera – 7th
Tommy Hanson- 6th
Max Scherzer – 9th
2 more from here(or plus whatever wasn’t taken in previous rounds)
Desmond Jennings – FA – Keeper
Jhonny Peralta – FA
Colby Rasmus – 11th
Ryan Roberts – FA
David Murphy – FA
Ian Kennedy – 19th – Keeper
Cory Luebke – FA – Keeper
Jhoulys Chacin – FA – Keeper
Kyle Farnsworth – FA
Doug Fister – FA
Ryan Vogelsong – FA
R.A. Dickey – FA
Javier Vázquez – 22
Josh Collmenter – FA
Thanks Grey
@Mr2Bits, Didn’t we just go over this?
@Grey, Nope…..different league
@Mr2Bits, Gotcha… Yeah, I agree with your 6.
GM Grey…
Heard your interview on SXM last nite and just wanted to say you did a great job! I was listening in the car and waited in my driveway until the spot was over. I’m not sure if your genius was intentional or not but you thinking Kay was Ray was hysterical.
Was that your first interview on the channel? I’m glad to see the site get some much due attention, but sad to think my league mates may have been listening.
Grey you had me at sagnof!
@Jmonte, Aw, thanks, friend! I was slightly bewildered they would ask me two questions, act like I knew who Kay was like I listened to the show (I was being facetious when I called her Ray though, obviously I can tell a man from a woman) then put me on the phone with callers. Am I doing their job? We were supposed to talk about LABR. Instead I got a Braun question from a girl who I’m not sure even plays fantasy and two keeper questions from two guys in their cars.
@Grey, Where can i find this interview online?
@tHe sHiT, Honestly, I have no idea. I’ve never listened to their show before.
Chris Sale is either a hugely depressed slacker or not the best speaker:
“I don’t really like to set goals or live up to expectations and stuff because I tried doing that last year and I failed miserably.” (http://www.csnchicago.com/blog/sox-drawer/post/Sale-wants-to-pitch-200-innings-as-a-sta?blockID=657650&feedID=661)
More relevant to the last post, but whatever. It could be a fun to be a Royals fan for the next few years. Now I’m relevant!
@royce!, Zen and the art of Sale
Grey on an unrelated note, im hearing stuff about Kendry feeling good and that he should be the regular DH next year. Well how much do you see him going for in auction, as I could still keep him for next year? If I did I’d probably give him 1 yr $6, is he worth that or could he be gotten cheaper from auction anyway. Im getting the feeling this guy could be a very nice value pick this year, especially hitting around El hombre…should be a nice late round Util or maybe even CI gamble.
@TheNewGuy, He felt good last spring and you see how well that worked out. $6 is still fair for him. He’s just a flyer though at this point.
@Grey: Thoughts on this team ???
1. Evan Longoria (TB – 3B)
2. Dustin Pedroia (Bos – 2B)
3. Pablo Sandoval (SF – 1B,3B)
4. Matt Holliday (StL – OF)
5. David Price (TB – SP)
6. Buster Posey (SF – C)
7. James Shields (TB – SP)
8. Drew Stubbs (Cin – OF)
9. Joel Hanrahan (Pit – RP)
10. Dee Gordon (LAD – SS)
11. Nick Markakis (Bal – OF)
12. Cory Luebke (SD – SP,RP)
13. Ervin Santana (LAA – SP)
14. Jemile Weeks (Oak – 2B)
15. Matt Joyce (TB – OF)
16. Brandon League (Sea – RP)
17. Adam Lind (Tor – 1B)
18. Alexi Ogando (Tex – SP)
19. Carlos Lee (Hou – 1B,OF)
20. Jim Johnson (Bal – RP)
21. R.A. Dickey (NYM – SP)
22. Mike Trout (LAA – OF)
23. Aroldis Chapman (Cin – RP)
@Anthony, No idea how many teams.
@Anthony, Not lovin that outfield…rotations a tad weak too. Otherwise looks pretty solid.
@TheNewGuy,
bottom of the heap , when it comes to power ,
if you’re talking 5×5 vanilla .
@Grey: 12 teams – i had the 12th pick. I personally think this team is playoff worthy in any & every league – your thoughts ?
@Anthony, I think your expectations are a bit high. Your OF isn’t great, your pitching is pretty weak and I don’t love your flyers.
I went to High School (in NY) with Hosmer’s new girlfriend. She lives in Miami (his hometown) now and will be there during the season. Very high maintenance and could prove to be a distraction to the sophomore (3 years her junior). Probable ugly breakup at some point during the year causing further lack of plate discipline. She works at a nightclub so he will definitely be up late as she gets out of work around 4 am. Lack of sleep could sap his power this year…. Look for a Pat Burrell type 2nd year…..
@Po, That’s some next level scouting.
@Po, lol this sort of insight can only be found on razzball.
@TheNewGuy, love it.
@Po, Ha, that’s awesome. Keep us abreast, get it ‘a breast.’ Yeah, I’m not sure what that means either.
@Po, Most guys would be pretty happy with a Pat Burrell-type year.
What?
Oh – you mean baseball-wise. Gotcha.
Hosmer’s gonna be good for a long time, but I agree that he’ll disappoint in fantasy this year based on where he’s being drafted. Grey, did Jeff mention anything about the possibility of Soria being traded before the deadline? I think he’s gonna return to form but I’m worried about him being moved to a contender and put in a set-up role.
@Big Magoo, What you see above is what he said to us.
@Grey, Gotcha. Soria, Street, and Marmol are three of the closers I like this year but unfortunately I think they’re all at risk of being moved if the right offer comes along. I guess I’ll have to mix in a Motte or a Betancourt here and there.
@Big Magoo, Yeah, they are at risk.
@Grey: A rotation of Price, Shields, luebke, Big Erv, and Ogando is weak ??? And i have 3 closers…
Picks 21-23 are throw away picks…
@Anthony, I don’t like Ervin or Shields and Ogando is a middle reliever. http://razzball.com/2012-fantasy-baseball-rankings/
Word on Twitter Street is that the A’s 3B just hurt his knee in a fielding drill. There was an audible pop and he appeared to be in considerable pain.
In related news, all 2012 Sizemore-Only leagues have just been cancelled.
@Steve, Ha!
@ Grey :
february is coming to a close .
what happened to your pod-cast ?
@chata, Recording it before February ends…
Grey,
Has the Yahoo mag come out yet? Were you able to contribute like always?
@Eddy, I didn’t have time to do it this year.
If they can get it to serve beer they will really be on to something.
http://lockerz.com/s/187147331
@Steve, Is that a honey badger?
@Grey, Monkey of some sort I think.
@Steve, Of course! That lil’ bugger…
Hey Grey and Rudy,
Good luck in your LABR draft today. Picking from the 11 slot might work out for you. . . I sort of like picking near the turn in 12-team drafts, though I’m not sure how that slot will work in a 15-teamer. At any rate, I’ll be rooting for you guys.
@Bombo Rivera, I’m collecting the URLs of all the Razzball Commenter Leagues to make sure everyone has the same settings and compile the complete list for the master standings.
When you get a chance, please send me your league address:
vinreich@zoho.com.
Thanks!
@VinWins, Hey, is there any validity to the last comment on the sign up post? Is his email not working?
@Grey, I have sent emails to him that have been answered.
@VinWins, Thanks!
@VinWins, I sent you the URL. Let me know if you need anything else.
@Bombo Rivera, Thanks!
@Bombo Rivera, Thanks for the support!
***Holy crap we just got Longoria with the 20th overall pick.
@Grey, Crikey. Who’d you take first?
@Steve, A-Gon… We were trying to diversify since we took Longo yesterday but at 20 you have to take Longo again.
That lABR draft is viewable:
http://www.mockdraftcentral.com/watch_draft.jsp?id=189028
@VinWins, We’re getting crazy value so far.
@Grey, Yeah, so you can do something crazy later!
@VinWins, First pick I wasn’t crazy about… Totally jinxed us.
@Grey, I’m not totally convinced it was my fault.
@VinWins, Nah, I’m saying I jinxed us, still solid core so far.
@VinWins,
thanks for posting this link .
am pretty late to the party .
would have been nice to see it live .
i like the chatter .
thanks again .
@chata, No problem. I was enjoying it too, but I left early for an AL only auction, which I totally messed up anyways.
@VinWins,
castro with the 26th over-all pick ?
tell me that people weren’t laughing .
also , do you think rudy/grey were freaking out , when heath bell was sniped , immediately before their pick of carlos marmol ?
@chata, Ha! Rudy and Grey would never freak out, would they?
@VinWins,
then , one of those two must like marmol .
@chata, Well, Grey has Bell and Marmol in the same tier.
I was guessing Rasmus when you took Ichiro.
@VinWins, I wanted Kendrick or Gardner when Rudy went Asdrubal… Then I said Bum or Gardner and we went Bum…
@VinWins, Ichiro because we didn’t get Gardner and needed steals…
This draft is really interesting to watch…crazy to see how differently experts can approach the same problem. Either that or it just shows that there’s so much luck involved in FBB that even idiots can rise to the top.
I thought you all reached like crazy for Rios, but based on the reactions you got, he might not have been around for long.
@royce!, Yeah, people like him… Lest not forget:
http://razzball.com/alex-rios-2012-fantasy-sleeper/
@Grey, I know you like him, I just didn’t know how many others shared that sentiment. I don’t think I’ll own him in the RCL, but in other, non-razzball dominated leagues, I probably will.
Was just going to write something snarky about Jonah Keri’s picks (which pained me, because I really enjoy his writing), but it looks like he simply disappeared. Which is good, because the Hudson pick would have cast a dark shadow over his writing.
@royce!, Yeah, his writing is solid. His team is terrible…
@royce!, @Grey, Going by the 300, and in a 15-teamer, that actually looks like pretty decent value.
@Steve, I thought Rios was good for our pick before when I was yelling at Rudy to draft him. He finally listened 15 picks later.
@Steve, Ah, I didn’t realize this was a 15-team league. That’s great value, then. The first 2 picks are freaking insane as well. Nicely done!
@royce!, I think all the picks until Asdrubal are great… Then we lost our way for a pick or two… Still good guys but we didn’t need a SS or closer.
^That’s more in hindsight though…
@Grey, Can’t be perfect, and at least you don’t need a SS now, when pickings are slim. Better get on Mesoraco though.
@royce!, Yeah, was real surprised on Cespedes. Don’t love we drafted him yesterday too, but whatever. I’ve been begging Rudy to take Cozart for MI.
@Grey, Are you gonna write this one up?
BTW, is there anything less fulfilling than reading other people’s draft chatter?
@Steve, Rudy was on the wheels of steel for the whole draft with me just on IM so I’m guessing he’ll write it up, but one of us will, yeah. Honestly, I don’t even read the draft IM while drafting 99% of the time.
@Grey, Rudy was DJ-ing? Cool.
@Steve, While I was making requests, yeah…
@Grey, Obviously a few times when he couldn’t hear your through his headphones. You should have thrown your glowstick at him.
@Grey, Why didn’t you guys take Longo at #11? Worried that you’d miss out on a top 1B?
@Steve, We both wanted 1B and 3B. Rudy argued if we went A-Gon then there was no way Longo was making it back to us. So if we went Longo, we’d end up with Tex, at best. Longo and who knows what, at worst. Whereas if we went A-Gon first there was a slim chance Longo would come back to us… Plus we took Longo the day before.
@Grey, Think you guys and Podhorzer have comfortably the best combos from the first two rounds.
@Steve, Our team is solid overall. I see a lot worse teams, that’s for sure.
@Grey, Cespedes is pretty great there too. Surprised he hung around so long.
I’m surprised you guys did not draft Minor. Was he someone you were worrying about? Or just waiting to snap up Peacock?
@Eddy, Here’s Rudy and my IM exchange… Take Minor! I’m taking Chacin… Take Minor! Too Chacin… I’m taking Denard Span… Take Minor! Took Span… He gave me Cozart and others… He didn’t want him.
@Grey,
I like the DeLosSantos pick. Could provide good MR numbers, and has an outside chance of closing.
De Los Santos. I’m super fast at typing. If i was a super hero it would be my super power. “We’ve got to transcribe this speech or the world will end!!! Call royce!”
@royce!, Sorry, when I wrote typing I meant drinking.
@royce!, Wouldn’t it be “Call royce!!” Since your name already has an exclamation mark? Yeah, I think some of our MR/handcuff picks might be better in theory. Since it’s a weekly league what ends up happening is MRs sit on the bench while we try to maximize innings.
@Grey, I suppose it would. Though considering the mundanity of the superpower, it might be, “Call royce!…” or perhaps, “Call royce!?”
Didn’t realize it was a weekly league. Anyhow, I still like the pick, because I’m all about theory. Practice is boring. Know what’s not boring? De Los Santos’ K/9. Know what is Boring? An old timber town in NW Oregon.
@royce!, Royce!… does seem to make the most sense. I agree, no one wants to live in Boring. DLS sure doesn’t. Brian Fuentes does though, and why would the A’s go with boring for all 24 1/2 save opps they get?
@Grey, 24 1/2? Ouch. And ha! But mostly ouch.
@Grey, Melvin has apparently been raving about how well Fuentes has pitched in ST so far. I think we can probably file such utterances in the category right next to the ‘I’m In The Best Shape Of My Life’ file.
@Steve, Yeah, totally.
*** ATTN: iPad Users ****
Did my first mock auction using my iPad draft app. Well, not really an app… it’s a set of auto-updating spreadsheets for Numbers (the Mac equivalent of Excel), but it’s just easier to call it an app. I needed to do a mock to debug the app, but I also wanted to see how well a “Studs and Scrubs” approach would work while sticking to Grey’s Pitcher Pairing strategy. I’m pretty pleased with the results. Any and all comments welcome.
ALSO, if there are any iPad users out there who would like to test my app out over the next week, please post and I’d be happy to email it to you. I think I’ve gotten all the bugs out, but any extra feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Even though I drafted a quarter of the Top 20 players, I was able to follow the Pitcher Pairings and even upgrade my last SP to Holland/Worley. Not only that, I was also able to auto-buy my last 8-10 picks by waiting to fill in my offense with deep discounts, allowing me to take 5 closers and not scrape the very bottom of the barrel at any position.
@Awesomus Maximus, Team looks very solid, OF is a little overly scrubby, but Gomez could give some cheap steals, and you’d probably be able to replace him off waivers in a 12 team league. Pitching looks nice…
@Grey, Replace CarGo with someone off waivers?
@Grey, Heh… my bad, it’s Carlos Gonzalez in my OF, not Gomez.
@Awesomus Maximus, Oh, then the team’s kinda silly good. Does look like autodrafters around you.
@Awesomus Maximus,
how DID you manage to draft 5 guys who normally would
be selected in the 1st two rounds ?
how many teams ?? what site ???
fwiw , maybe you might have considered getting a bench bat ,
in case of injury , and not drafted so many matt thornton types .
good luck with your “app” .
@chata, A few teams were on autodraft, that always helps. I spent $176 on those five players at the top of the draft. After that, the only players I spent real money on were SPs, and even then I only went over $10 once, maybe twice. I just watched as everyone slowly chipped away at their stacks until there was only me and two other people who could bid over $1 max, and we seemed to have different desires (I only poached two players late, and I don’t remember having any poached from me). Unless I feel an injury to my offense is imminent (e.g. Hamilton, Morneau), I don’t like carrying bench bats. I’d rather be building up Ks and Saves.
@Awesomus Maximus, I’d love to give it a try, though the time difference isn’t ideal for mock drafting here. sglyon at gmail dot com.
@Steve, Check your email.
@Awesomus Maximus, Got it – thanks!
Grey, Love the Royals preview. Probably the only guy on the planet to write a decent Royals fantasy article. The days of Brett, Willie Wilson, Frank White, Onix Concepcion , and Steve Bye Bye Balboni are long gone. Every year I keep the hope alive that they will get back to something that resembles a solid team with a chance to get to the playoffs. I have a feeling I will be waiting for a very long time
Oh well…….Keeper question. I need to choose between JUp or Kinsler. Per your rankings you have JUp ahead. Just nervous about 2nd depth. Also my other keeper is Votto if that even matters in the decsion
@Carl Spackler, Thanks for the kind words! I think your hope/patience might be rewarded a bit this year. They just need one surprising pitching performance from a Crow/Duffy or Paulino to look good. Upton…
Hey Grey, just checked out your LABR results – pretty sweet for a 15-teamer. I’m sure it’s been addressed in the earlier comments, but two questions: Asdrubal over Utley and Kendrick? And passing over Minor for the likes of Carp and Span? I’m sensing some Rudy influence perhaps?
@Big Magoo, I went over these things above. I wanted Kendrick, Rudy didn’t, I wanted Minor, Rudy didn’t. Rudy also didn’t want Cozart and a few others we got that I wanted, so it was a give and take.
@Grey, Yeah, I figured. It looks like a lot of teams were focused on position scarcity early on, huh? Longo at 20 is crazy. I think you guys got great value on your trio of A’s too.
@Big Magoo, I agree, hard to fault a lot of our team.
@Grey, just got howie in the 8th round of a mock, how early would you take him in a 12 teamer? obviously you’re very high on him, ranking him #45 in your rankings… i almost passed on him for an adam jones or victorino, but since i still needed a 2B i took Howie.
The guy only ever hit 10 HR’s in a yr prior to last yr, of course only the yr before did he get a full yrs worth of AB’s….
@Tony, Barring injury, he’s a 15/15/.290 guy. If he gets a handful more of homers, he’s not far off from Pedroia, and I love him in that lineup. I’d be very happy with him in the 5th round if I needed 2nd base.
Chris Perez out for 4-6 weeks with an oblique strain.
Pestano here I come!
@Black Beard, Damn, just drafted his stupid ass two days ago. Thanks for the heads up!
@Grey, all things considered I feel like Pestano might be the better horse to bet on when it comes to an upside closer taking over (see Jansen). He might not have the fantasy closerability (word) of Kenley but if Javy can come to close to repeating last year’s success the Dodgers should build him up and sell him off at the trade deadline then install Mr. Jansen.
@Black Beard, Jansen was getting saves last year, Pestano could get more saves… SAGNOF!
Grey,

1. Kemp
2. Votto
3. Carlos Gonzalez
4. Dustin Pedrioa
Who would be your last 2 keepers out of:
Weaver, Haren, Andrus, Latos, M. Young??
Appreciate it.
@Peoples Champ, Andrus, Weaver…
@Grey, What if I can trade Andrus for a 3rd rounder (effectively a 9th round Draft pick). Does this change your opinion?
@Peoples Champ, Nope
Grey, what trio of players would you prefer, knowing that your second round player can be kept next year.
1.Votto
2.Wright
3. Cruz/Holliday
1. Votto
2. Teixeira
3. ARod/Zimmeman
It’s an OBP league, so Teixeira’s value goes way up.
@Eddy, Wright one…
@Grey, Grazie!
@Eddy, Those are the round values next to their names.

@timSTi, It’d be a tougher call…
feels like there is a thousand questions we can ask about the royals this season… There’s “upside” question at almost every position. gonna be fun to watch.
@The Talented Mr. Dope Man, Yup
Zumaya blows out his elbow again. Poor bastard.
@Steve, Just came over here to post something about that…which was, does this solidify Capps’ status? Is the Twins closer shituation worth avoiding altogether? Should I draft Perkins as a late flyer? Should I be concerned that I have a two week old baby and this is how I choose to spend my time?
Crazy thing is that Capps’ ADP at MDC is over 300. Dude could potentially go undrafted in a 12 team league.
@royce!, Dads need a break too!
I suppose it does solidify Capps’ position a little, though I was really just expressing some sympathy for Zumaya.
I feel genuinely sorry for him – 13 pitches into his first session of live batting practice and his life is f***** all over again.
@Steve, I agree, what a bummer. Maybe he should spend the next year or so working with Wakefield.
@royce!, The first sentence of his Wiki profile says it all:
Joel Martin Zumaya (born November 9, 1984) is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Minnesota Twins. He is known for his record-breaking fastballs and his numerous injuries.
@royce!, I’d draft Capps at the very end of the Brain Freezes, and wouldn’t waste space in a 12 team league on Perkins yet… But, yeah, Capps is crapps… Hey-oh!
@Grey,
What’s the haps on the Capps
Shake em up, shake em up, shake em up, shake em
@Steve, It was a good day…
grey…in a league that allows us to keep prospects…waht do you think of anthony rendon???
@the grate one, I think he’s young and needs to get a new position.
I don’t usually watch the Oscars, but am glad that I have been tonight…If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t know that the people who make movies think that movies are like the most important thing ever.
Oh, also, Natalie Portman.
@royce!, New Zealand rules Hollywood again (we wrote the Muppet song).
@Steve, I was stoked for Bret; that guy is brilliant, and I love the Muppets. They air the Muppets in NZ when you were a kid?
@royce!, Yeah they were on here. Pretty cool.
@Steve, I think it was the first show that I actively looked forward to.
You ever buy anything from that ebbets site? I am about to
@royce!, No, I haven’t. Unfortunately my wife doesn’t have a baby to distract her from matters of domestic expenditure
@royce!, What a boring show… Predictably so, but still…
@Grey, Yep, with Crystal as the host, you had to know it was going to be trying. I’m thinking that’s what they were going for- boring. Well they nailed it. I just don’t know why they thought it had to be so freaking serious and dramatic about everything. I don’t usually watch awards shows so it might just be me, but the whole thing seemed so self-consciously self-congratulatory, an impression that the best picture winner really drove home. Maybe Hollywood really feels the need to sell itself lately?
I might just be grumpy due to lack of sleep for the last couple nights. Also I only saw 2 of the 9 best picture nominees, so they might be right about having to sell Hollywood to me. Was The Artist any good?
@royce!, The Artist was a trifle. Zach G. just had a good joke on E!. They asked what they thought of Angelina Jolie’s slit and he asked, “You said slit with an S, right?”
@Grey, Nice! Though the original is interesting enough… And also her stance was ridiculous. I realized tonight that Jolie’s facial physical characteristics are such that as she ages, she will look like she has had work done, without every having any work done. She’s going to have to have work done to appear as if she has not. Weird.
@royce!, I see her father at the grocery store all the time. Always wearing an ascot, looks terrible with work done.
@Grey, The Marxist propaganda that fooled him into opposing the Vietnam War is probably also responsible for the condition of his face.
Love the ascot though. It’s a must-have for grocery shopping!
@Grey, mean “nice” about the Galifinakis joke, not the Artist being a trifle.
@Grey, Oh, and as much as I thought it was rad and hilarious that the Muppet song won, why wasn’t the Moneyball song nominated? Kinda easy to beat the only other song nominated, some throwaway animated BS.
@royce!, Lenka ong wasn’t for the movie, was made originally for herself then they used it.
@Grey, Lenka song, that is.
@Grey, Ah, fair enough. Rules are rules.
