Valentine’s Day is coming a day early this year. For a limited time only, get your loved one a fantasy baseball league! That’s right, hearts aflutter, snitches. It’s that time of the year. Since back in June when you abandoned your fantasy baseball team because it was totally sucking and you returned to your cubbyhole of Doritos and Freezer Pops, you’ve longed for this day. As Bob Marley sang, this is your redemption song, mon. Or womon, for our three girl readers. It’s time again to join some fantasy baseball leagues. Before you close all of your extraneous porn windows and rush to sign up, let’s explain how these fantasy baseball leagues are going to work. We’re going to have a bunch of leagues and crown a winner from each, then we’re going to crown ONE winner from all of the winners. We will be crowning the winner by taking each team’s points and multiplying it against a ‘league competitiveness factor.’ If you want to see how it worked last year, go here. So we’re going to fill up as many fantasy leagues as we can for the next couple of weeks. Each fantasy baseball league will be a mixed league, 12 team, snake draft, roto, 5×5, 5 OFs, one Middle Infielder, one Corner Infielder, one Utility, 9 pitchers, 20 game eligibility, 180 Games Started. The lineup is also known as: C/1B/2B/SS/3B/CI/MI/5 OF/UTIL/9 P/3 BENCH/1 DL. The fantasy leagues will be played in ESPN and they will be free to join. They are not at Yahoo because they don’t give non-leaguemates the ability to see the leagues.
We’re going to start with fifteen leagues of 12 and see how we do from there. Each league has an organizer. The duties of the organizer will be to accept 11 other people into the league, set it up at ESPN at the most conducive draft time and then sit back and relax. Just choose one organizer from the available RCLs below and contact them. If we don’t get enough to fill 15 leagues, we’ll fold them together like egg whites and sugar. If we need more than 15 fantasy baseball leagues, then we will expand them like egg whites and a beater. If we need more organizers, then we’ll handle that business in the comments of this post. (The number of spots open will be updated by me as I hear from the organizers.)
Now for the BIG prize! I know, you can hardly wait. This year’s winner will receive a jacket. Not just any jacket, but a one-of-its-kind jacket. A jacket that you need to know someone to own. Can someone tell me what the rule 20 game eligibility, 180 games started means?

A player must have had at least 20 games started at a position to be eligible for that position.
And you can only have a maximum of 180 games started for pitchers. If you exceed that limit, then any games started by a pitcher will not count after that.
In other words, streaming like 4 guys a day looks good in May when you’re leading, but in early August when your pitching stats don’t count anymore it’ll bite you.

If you can’t draft on a weekend, try one of the other leagues. If you can ONLY draft on a weekend, then we are the league for you!

I am constantly flush with pitching in this league. I have Felix, Justin Verlander, Zack Greinke, Gio Gonzalez, Jordan Zimmermann, and Ricky Romero. Our SP stats are W, L, CG, K, ERA, WHIP, and QS.
On the hitting side I’m pretty strong everywhere but SS. I have Napoli, Teixeira, Brandon Phillips, Zimmerman, and Michael Young at C, 1b, 2b, 3b, and IF. In the OF I have Pence, Cruz, Morse, Jennings, and CarGo. We have 4 OF spots and 2 other Util spots. Our stats for hitters are R, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OBP, SLG.
One guy in the league has Starlin Castro and Jose Reyes. I hit him up and he wants either Verlander or Felix for Starlin, otherwise he’s not interested. Given that we can keep a player indefinitely (yes, yes, I agree, this league is silly, but I’ve won it twice in the past 4 years, so I enjoy it) is it worth it to make that trade? If Starlin is the new Jeter, and SS is going to be a black hole again, I am sorely tempted.

@Grey, Back is doing very well; thanks for asking. Pretty much just tapering off the pain meds and starting the long (6 months) slow process of building up my strength again. The only restriction I have is lifting (nothing over 5 lbs). But I can do all the regular stuff again (put on shoes, shower, poop, drive, etc.). Couldn’t be happier with the results of the procedure thus far.

@Grey, The difference between the slider and cutter is a big one, in my O. Looking over your top 20 SPs, the most durable/consistent don’t throw a slider at all. With Halladay and Haren relying heavily on the cutter, and no slider.(They are also the only 2 to throw a splitter) If MadBum is throwing a cutter and not a slider, which I believe he is now, that speaks to his success this season, unlike Hanson who cannot rely on his fastball at all.

@ichirosan, I got that email today, today being Valentine’s Day. I did not receive it yesterday. I believe it was RCL 15. I deleted my invite as I’ve already accepted an invite to another league. It said a guy named Rich sent me the invite, so I scanned the organizers list and saw a Richard that still had spots open so I had a confusing back and forth with him. I’m not sure why the email didn’t come yesterday, but if it happened to others that would explain the problem. I have to decline, I don’t see it as fair to have more than one team.

@kwadjo, Set up is easy. Just set up a League Manager league at ESPN. Change pitchers’ Games Started to 180, and the draft option to online and draft order randomised 1 hour before draft time – otherwise it’s defaults all the way.

I was let down by my other RCL league. Comish only had 11 people invited and didnt even show up himself for the draft so i’m looking for a new league. I can draft anytime except Friday. The earlier the better as i’m working on Irish time but i’l stay up late if i have to.

@jeffjam, Yeah,a league missed their draft time so I started this league for those teams that still wanted to be in the RCL, but only a couple of them have joined.
