Thanks for all of the great info. I'm trying to anticipate my pairings and was hoping for a suggestion or two.

I'm going into my 2nd season of FBB in a H2H 10 team league. I have to keep 1 of the previous years 1st ten draft picks and 1 of the previous years last 14 draft picks. With each of the 2 keeper picks, I lose the corresponding draft pick in the upcoming draft.

Last years draft picks under consideration are as follows:

Rounds 1-10

1. Ramirez
2. Wright
3. Pedroia
4. J. Upton
5. McCutchen
6. C. Kershaw
9. Konerko

My thought process was to keep Upton and hope that I can pick up 2 cornermen with my 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks.

Rounds 11-24

13. M. Montero
17. G. Sanchez
18. Y. Molina
20. I. Desmond
23. C. Beltran

Having a tougher time making a decision here. I'd like to get catcher out of the way and I think I get good value with Montero at 13 but Beltran almost seems like a no brainer with only having to sacrifice my 23rd round pick. Desmond is also a consideration.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I get to keep 3 players. Listed are the players name and then in parenthesis is the round of draft I would give up in order to keep them. This number was based on last years draft. Which 3 would be the best to keep? H2H 5x5 league C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, Util, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, P, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN

Bautista (2),
Hosmer (22),
Konerko (11),
McCutchen (8),
Montero (18),
Weeks (4),
Jimenez (6)
and Hanrahan (20)

I am considering Bautista, Hosmer, and probably McCutchen. McCutchen would offer speed. I appreciate your blog and insights.

Hey,
So I'm in a keeper league with a CI and MI slot. Its a 9x9 league that counts XBHs, OPS, and K's.
I can keep three of the following: Pujols, Tex, Jay Bruce, Brett Lawrie, Holiday, Jennings.
I figure Pujols is a given, but Im struggling with the other two. Tex and Burce, or Lawrie and Tex, or Bruce and Lawrie... I can't decide....
Who would you keep?
Thanks,
Josh

If you have Konerko and Hosmer as keepers, what pairing would you target in Rd 1-2? (H2H Points) I'm thinking 3B/OF, but am tempted by a shallow 2B as well.

How many rounds do you bump up players in a first year keeper (H2H points) league?
@Hans, I gotta agree with you. Especially last year. People who went for a 3B to pair with their top 1B got seriously burned. Guys that waited on 3B could win their leagues with schmoahawks like Ryan Roberts manning the corner. That's not always going to be the case. I think Wright is majorly due for a big year, so he could be the perfect pairing for these top 1B.

But if you're in a league where people are grabbing MIs too quickly, I say definitely take another 1B if they're in Grey's top10 overall (which basically means Prince or Adrian). The trade value alone can nab you some of those other positions after the draft. In other words, when you are going to trade for a 3B and an OF or SP, wouldn't you rather be ponying up Prince Fielder than Adrian Beltre?

Fact of the matter, though, is that Grey is right. Yes, I guess I just reversed myself. After the top-5 1B are gone the pickings are pretty slim, unless you are counting on Teix to have a big year. There's no way those guys make it to the second round. I think a lot of Razzballers this year will have a top-5 1B paired with HanRam in the second and Wright in the third.

I've got Hanley and Wright as keepers in my league, so I'll be right there with y'all. If only I could land a damn elite 1B. Virtually impossible in an NL-only keeper league, especially now that we've lost Pujols, Prince and Adrian in the last two years, so I certainly covet getting a real 1B and holding on to him.

After the top-5 1B are gone the pickings are pretty slim, unless you are counting on Teix to have a big year. There’s no way those guys make it to the second round. I think a lot of Razzballers this year will have a top-5 1B paired with HanRam in the second and Wright in the third.

I’ve got Hanley and Wright as keepers in my league, so I’ll be right there with y’all. If only I could land a damn elite 1B. Virtually impossible in an NL-only keeper league, especially now that we’ve lost Pujols, Prince and Adrian in the last two years, so I certainly covet getting a real 1B and holding on to him.

@Grey, I've got Votto and Ellsbury as keepers. Which elite player here should I target (5x5 w/ OPS not BA)? Bautista and Tulo will most likely be kept by others, too. I'm thinking I need to go for power with Pujols, Miggy, or Fielder, but Longoria would really settle a 3rd position for me (no pun intended!), and be a little cheaper than the others.

@Grey & Eddy, Moore pitched over 150 innings last year between AAA and the show last year.

IMO, IP limits and pitch counts are kind of dumb. Think of all the pitches thrown inbetween innings, warming up, etc... if you really add them up pitchers are regularly throwing 180-210 when you add in the 50 pregame warmup pitches, inbetween inning warmup 5-8 pitches. It's more about pitches thrown in high pressure situations, moments when pitchers are more likely to overthrow.

I see Moore's ceiling as 190 this year, his floor as 170. I see him as a left-handed Verlander with the same kind of electric stuff and feel for pitching, and Verlander threw 186.1 his first full season in the league.

@Grey, I know this is off topic, but I'm doing my normal numbers rundown before I start mocking and I came across the numbers of one Matt Downs, 2B for the Astros. In 199 AB's last year he had 10 homers, 18 doubles, 41 RBI and slugged .518. He also batted a respectable .276. Obviously, if he were to get 500 AB's you've got second base gold. He's a righty, so am I left to assume that he only plays against lefty pitching and hits righties like he's blindfolded? He did have 47 strikeouts as well, which is pretty high. I just wanted to know your opinion on this guy. His numbers seem so intriguing and I've never paid the guy much mind. Might he have more playing time on the horizon or is he doomed in a platoon?
