Now’s the time when we put all of our 2011 baseball predictions in one place. Then in October we can look back at this and laugh. Oh, and we will laugh. Big, bellowing, seat of your pants laughs. Hindsight is indeed 20/20. But where’s the harm in setting ourselves to look like jackasses? We run a fantasy baseball blog, after all. Grey’s picks in RED. Rudy’s picks in BLUE. Anyway, here’s our predictions for baseball’s post-season awards and whatnot:
AL Pennant Winner – Detroit Tigers – The Yankees would’ve been the easy choice here, but I’m a small market kind of guy. Some would call me a hero. Who? I’m not sure, friend.
AL Pennant Winner – Boston Red Sox - If they can win 90+ games with last year’s injuries + Beckett/Lackey sucking, I think they can win the pennant with a little more luck + A-Gonz + Crawford.
NL Pennant Winner – Milwaukee Brewers – Just think how exciting a Milwaukee-Detroit series will be. The Cheese vs. The G’s.
NL Pennant Winner – Cincinnati Reds - Spring training wasn’t kind to the Reds pitching staff (Arroyo – who you been kissin?) but this team has solid depth (including a stocked farm system).
World Series Champion – Brewers – It’s game seven and the Tigers are up by 6 runs in the bottom of the 9th. But when they take the field, Miggy is nowhere to be found. Speculation says he’s in the locker room already spraying himself with champagne. Then the Brewers mount a huge comeback and Prince Fielder accidentally crushes Bud Selig in a pile on. We can dream, can’t we?
World Series Champion – Red Sox - I hope Grey is right.
AL ROY – Jeremy Hellickson – I almost put Micheal Pineda, but I figured it was more practical to put Hellickson then talk about how I almost put Pineda.
AL ROY – Mike Moustakas - It may be late May before he comes up but he’ll put up enough stats to both warrant the Rookie of the Year as well as be overrated in fantasy baseball (pro-rated 23 HRs with .270 AVG).
NL ROY – Freddie Freeman – It’s going to be one of those years where someone wins it then everyone forgets about him the next day. Angel Berroa sends his condolences.
NL ROY – Brandon Belt - A belt is the perfect sadomasochistic complement to the SF Gimp. If only he was a pitcher so we can talk about his WHIP.
AL Cy Young – Jon Lester – Know who I picked last year? F-Her. *smugly rubbing knuckles on shirt*
AL Cy Young – Justin Verlander - I seem to pick him every year. Why change now?
NL Cy Young – Clayton Kershaw – His team can get him Wins, he can get Ks and his home park doesn’t hurt. Plus, he pitches against the Padres and Giants every third game. Yes, I went with him last year. Yes, I’m going with him again.
NL Cy Young – Yovani Gallardo - No one wants to vote for a Phillie pitcher. I like Kershaw but, for some reason, I think Gallardo finally puts it together. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking because we have him in NL LABR (and got out-bid for Kershaw).
AL MVP – Miguel Cabrera – From drunkard threatening death on shot girls at local bars to hero, Swiggy carries home the trophy and the championship.
AL MVP – Evan Longoria - If only because writers will be scared of angering an AK-47 owner.
NL MVP – Ryan Braun – Prince Fielder threatened to split the votes, but when it was explained a vote split is nothing like a banana split, he passed.
NL MVP – Albert Pujols - They gave it to Votto last year just because it gets monotonous to give it to Albert every year. I think this year is his last one though.
Now put your picks in the comments and we’ll look back on this in October and mock each other.

AL Champ: Red Sox
NL Champ: Braves
WS Winner: Phil Ivey…wait, baseball right? Braves in 6.
AL ROY: Smoak (puff, puff, give)
NL ROY: Freeman (if Bud Norris qualifies, then I’m going with him)
AL Cy Young: Liriano
NL Cy Young: Tommy Hanson
AL MVP: Adrian Gonzalez (just because I loath the Padres)
NL MVP: Tulowitzki
so I grabbed Madson in all my drafts even before the Lidge injury news came out, because I knew something was wrong with Lidge. I almost looked pretty smart. But no so much now.
Would you drop him for say someone like Lohse, who had a 15/0 K/BB rate in spring. Or hope that Contreras falls apart, Lidge never gets right, and hold on to Madson.
I picked the Tigers to face the Brewers in the World Series on my blog and I can’t believe that anybody else would have done that. Awesome.
Mr. April!!!!!!!!!!
The whole “Brett Gardner hitting leadoff!!!!!!!” thing is a bit less exciting when he is bunting the number nine hitter over.
I’m rooting for your picks since they sound like more fun Grey, but I think Rudy’s sound more realistic.
Hey so since I’m working on a zombie-related project now, I’ll leave you with this question. Is Longoria preparing for a zombie outbreak?
http://onlyagame.wbur.org/2011/03/30/evan-longoria-gun
Off to work now. Be back for the Jints vs. Dodgers tonight.
GO ALBERT GO COLBY (RASMUS)!
VOLQUEZ…..FFFFFFUUUUUU
@Donnie Baseball: I’d hold for the time being.
@KC: Nice
@Wake Up: Mr. March
@DonSlaughtOnslaught: Ha
Edinson Volquez is on one of my money league teams.
Carlos Gomez is on my Razzball team.
Ouch.
VOLQUEZ…..FFFFFFFUUUUUUU
Hmm, I think you’ll see a double post soon. My comments aren’t popping up.
@Grey: I was Poorshadowing…
@Eddy: Yeah, yikes.
@Wake Up: Nice
Volcanoquez is erupting, not going to make it out of the first at this rate..
Volqurz? That didn’t pan out.
Got offered Carlos Santana for Paul Konerko in a 20 team H2H, my C is Doumit, and my 1B is Fielder. What do you think?
NL Champ: Giants
AL Champ: Yankees
WS Champ: Giants in 7
NL ROY: Brandon Belt
AL ROY: Mark Trumbo
NL Cy: Cole Hamels
AL Cy: Justin Verlander
NL MVP: Prince Fielder
AL MVP: Justin Morneau
Thanks for the fun/interesting articles throughout the preseason.
Thanks, Razzball… the Goldilocks of fantasy baseball sites: not too heavy, not too light, but just right. Ha!
A razz idea for you, humbly submitted: Publish a Razz-rank of players without SB.
I have done primarily head-to-head leagues and almost always punted on SB. SB is the one nearly orthogonal category in a 5×5 league, so I punt on that and just focus on the other 9. Inevitably, I build my own list with SB stripped out.
It would be interesting (and unique?) to have a Razz list for SB punters.
Thanks, Bill
Is anyone else seeing this ad for True Religion Brand Jeans? Right there next to Grey’s comment photo. Almost like they’re the King and Queen of the universe. Yes, I need something else to think about besides Edison “Blackout”.
@nyydj2: Ha
@k roc: Sounds fair.
@williamt: Not a bad idea.

I propose that any use of the word “hero” on Razzball shall be preceded by “an”.
Volquez right now pioneering 3TO status for pitchers
@penpen: and oddly they’re the same outcomes
@AL KOHOLIC: Nice on the tie.
@Tom Emanski: No idea, but I’d check the signup post.
@Travis: Ha
@penpen: Ha!
Volquez’s numbers may look like crap, but I think he’s one minor adjustment from having a dominating season.
He’s throwing really hard, his changeup looks as good as ever. Don’t forget he missed a couple weeks of spring.
I would try to get him from a panicking owner after his horrible spring and opening game.
Volquez putting the hurt on the ERA already. The K’s will be nice all season though… Hopefully he settles down, giving up 4 through 7 wouldn’t be too bad.
so now would be a good time to trade rickie weeks right?
@Donnie Baseball: yeah his velocity is there, and not even that wild so far especially by his standards: 35 strikes to 17 balls

AL Pennant:Yankees(Not as easy a pick as usual. ARod, Jeter, Burnett bounce-back years. Teix starts hitting on opening day. They will add a SP.)
NL Pennant:Dodgers(Kemp bounces back. Helluva rotation. Broxton closes all year and Bills puts together a nice season. Donnie Baseball pops his cherry! Grey you were a year early.)
WS Champs:Yankeess
AL ROY:Walden(As we all know Rodney is dreadful. Walden takes over at closer and runs with it. ala Feliz.)
NL ROY:Espinosa(17HR, 20SB. I’m all in.)
AL CY:CC(20 wins, AL Pennant, K/9 improves)
NL CY:Kershaw(I stayed away last year because I thought it was a year too early and was waiting for this year. It’s this year!)
AL MVP:Miggy(Less IBB, more scotch. Teix is in the running but gets edged out.)
NL MVP:Bruan(Brew Crew win the division. Lose to the Dodgers after Miggy convinces Braun to celebrate their MVP’s by taking a bat-dodging drive through the desert and ends up at Circus Circus swigging single-malts with the lizard people.

Gallardo and Liriano – two of Grey’s favorites I never considered. Other than that and ranking Andrus 44 (I’d say 74) and Reynolds 47, (I’d say 97) it’s hard to disagree with anything the moustached man says!
Good luck fellow Razzball readers and of course thanks to Grey and Rudy. Should be a great season.
@brad: Yup
@Wake Up: Ha
@Eddy: Makes sense, be more interesting to see against lefty heavy ninth innings.
heyward’s channelling his inner ted williams. i’m a braves homer, but that dude is GOOD.
Grandy does it again!
(and Stubbs too!)
@Eng: Thanks, you too!
@Eddy: Oh, my bad. It is lefties.
@Eddy: Nice!
I still can’t believe I took Rasmus ~40 picks ahead of Stubbs. There is practically no difference and Stubbs comes with steals. I could offer a trade but he’s already off to a great start.
braun just munched one to dead center,and didnt even get it all
Gallardo isn’t particularly sharp today, although he’s hanging in there.
@Grey: Braun making us look good already.
@AL KOHOLIC: Yup
@Eddie: True
@Wake Up: He’s gonna have a huge year.
kimbrel-2 k,s and the save,yes
THE HEBREW HAMMER STRIKES!
wow first time seeing Morse. Really glad I didn’t buy too much into his spring stats
I can’t see him hitting righties, what a strange stance.
@Donnie Baseball: I was thinking the same thing.
@AL KOHOLIC: No, no, no. Grey said he’s going to have a WHIP of 1.24.
@Grey: I ordered the Volquez-Gallardo sandwich and it doesn’t taste good.
@Wake Up: Just wanted to add a couple of more predictions because I’m not sure that I feel I made a big enough fool of myself yet.
Kimbrel could easily win the NL ROY.
Tommy Hanson will be a big disappointment, considering where you had to draft him and the time he misses. ala Latos.
@Grey: Yep. Longo too. ManRam will help him a lot.
AL Champ: White Sox
NL Champ: Phillies
WS Winner: Phillies
AL ROY: Brent Morel (Darkhorse sleeper)
NL ROY: Brandon Belt
AL Cy Young: Lester
NL Cy Young: Kershaw (w/ Hanson a close 2nd)
AL MVP: Miguel Cabrera
NL MVP: POO- Holes
@Steve: Yeah, not pretty.
@Wake Up: Don’t know about the Hanson thing.
Yankee fans have to be the shittiest fans in the country. Up by 1, terrible weather and half the stadium is empty. Mariano comes in for the 9th to close it down and the stairs are flooded with people leaving. Awful fan base especially paying 200+ per ticket.
The Mets surprise!
NL ROY: Josh Thole
NL MVP: David Wright
NL Comeback Player of the Year: Carlos Beltran
NL Cy Young: Jon Niese
Kimbrel looked very solid in closing. Hoping he can run away with the closer job, although Venters looked pretty solid as well.
so does this mean Grey is a red republican and Rudy is a blue democrat???
Great stuff as always gentlemen!
Having Jason Heyward bat sixth is a crime against humanity.
HUMANITY!
AL Champ: Red Sox
NL Champ: Brewers
WS Winner: Red Sox
AL ROY: Trumbo, after Morales gets shelved for the year
NL ROY: Does Pedro Alvarez qualify?
AL Cy Young: Scherzer
NL Cy Young: Tommy Hanson
AL MVP: Jeter, with a comeback year but well below MVP standards. Gotta love those voters.
NL MVP: Stubbs, after going 40/40 since I missed him in every draft this year.
2011 World Series Champions: 2010 Seattle Mariners in March.

@Grey:
Happy Opening Day!
With Aardsma on the DL, I have a spot to fill. Who would you pick up for some easy aves: Contreras, League, Rauch, Farnsworth, *?
axford looking bad
@Long Bawls: That’s hilarious.
@Tele: You too! Rauch
@AL KOHOLIC: Looking worse.
Eat a dick, Axford
@sean: Ha!
yes ramon hernandez,3 run game winner off axford
wow axford just melted down bigtime. Thanks for costing Gallardo the win, RCL needs to have QS!!
@Grey: It’s nothing to laugh about.
@Steve: Yeah, I have Axford and Gallardo all over the place.
Speculative pickup Saito for Axford? Thoughts on who the MIL #2 is?
Axford got rocked! Only have him in one league thankfully… I didnt get to see him pitch, but the looks like he was the victim of an error to load the bases.
So how deep does your league have to be to pick up Hernandez?
Darn, RCL is the only place I have Axford. Already picked up Saito with my empty roster spot.
@bobbo: It would be Saito.
@High Upside: Was it a Ticker Shock?
@brettj72: 15+
Maybe Trevor Hoffman should be closing in Milwaukee.
@mauledbypandas: Nobody comes out of that game a winner. And by nobody I mean Logan Ondrusek
man, Stauffer looks like very poor man’s G. Maddux.
I know it’s early, but I really hope there is a horn under Axford’s wool cap.
@Eddie: Hehe
@Donnie Baseball: Yeah, not bad at all.
Axford craps the bed… but in more earth shaking-er news, Pujols pops out and grounds into two double plays to start 2011?! The Mayans were right! The end is nigh!
Trumbo has taken some terrible hacks. It’s as if when he has two strikes on him he loses all confidence and swings at anything.
And Bourjos gets to third on a bunt. That was pretty funny.
@The Good The Vlad The Utley: Ha!
@Eddy: Yup
“The Yankees would’ve been the easy choice here”
…really?
Can’t wait to see what Stauffer does in Petco. Except the fact I am a Cards fan, good to see him induce as many GB’s and GIDP’s. Thanks for vote of confidence on him Grey.
AL—-White Sox

WS–White Sox
AL ROY–Ackley
NL ROY–J Zimmerman

ive got him pitching tonight but stauffer has been real lucky to
Jeff Mathis just farted in our general direction.
I’ve figured out why the Royals picked Melky over Cain for the CF job. They want to fill M. Cabrera into the score card and dream…
@Steve: Cause Weaver is throwing gas to him.
@GopherDay: That’s hilarious.
@Grey: Weaver is brightening my pitching day.
Your reply prompts a question – does a baseball make a noise as it passes through the air (after the pitcher throws it)? In cricket, if the bowler delivers the ball with sufficient spin on it, it can make a whirring sound.
@Grey: I know I’m outta the box on that one. I haven’t read anything anywhere about it and I could be making a fool of myself. But, I feel it will happen.
Which side do you like? (5×5, H2H, 10 teams)
1. Matt Kemp and Josh Johnson
2. Matt Holliday and Justin Verlander
@Steve: Oh yeah, a good fastball (or a smoked line drive) makes a pretty nasty buzz as it passes you. Hard to describe, maybe like a hummingbird flying by.
@Jay: Yup – exactly the same as cricket.
@Steve: Yeah, what Jay said.
@Trade?: 1…Totally even though and I don’t see the reason for it.
Razzball Illuminati –
I’ve got the 3 of the first 4 picks in my NL Keeper minor league draft. Which of these 3 guys do you like for future fantasy dominance?

AL Pennant: Boston

NL ROY: Belt
AL ROY: Pineda
NL CY: Kershaw
AL CY: The King
NL MVP: Wright
AL MVP: Morneau
@The Good The Vlad The Utley: First time I get pick #1 in the draft, so of course Pujols is cursed. I did the same thing to LaDainian Tomlinson a couple of years ago.
@Giles Just Wanna Have Fun: Leave off Tallion and Singleton.
Now pitching for the Royals: Nate Adcock.
Too, too many different directions to go on this one.
Seems he has trouble with the catcher.
I heard you, Holliday.
@Dingo: er, I meant ‘I heart you’, but ‘I heard you’ works too, I guess.
Do any of y’all use an app for the iPhone to follow the box scores? If so, which one?
Grey I know you hate Pablo Sandoval but apparently not as much as Bochy. Batting him 8th? Seriously? Miguel Tejada come on now.
Giants opening day OF: Pat Burrell, Aubrey Huff, Andres Torres…Do they get a special AARP discount or something?
@Long Bawls: Ha
@Dingo: Me too.
@Cain Fan: Yup
@GopherDay: Hehe
@Grey: Yeah, it’s close. Kemp’s 30/30 potential to Holliday’s 30/15 is why I’m considering it.
is mike minor droppable? for the glass chipper!?
dear Angels bullpen: if you blow this win for Weaver I will whine about it… a lot. You have been warned.
Full season extrapolations, based on Day 1:
Tex on track for 500 RBI. But a slight injury risk, so let’s be conservative and say 453, whcih sounds scientific, anyway.
Franklin and Axford on track to combine for 324 BS.
Frenchy, at long last, will fulfill his promise and have over 150 RBI but, tragically, will only bat .250.
Hey, just goin’ by the numbers.
and on a side note: MGD64 is disgusting….ran out of liquor and my beer so i grabbed one of the wifes…. WOW… talk about piss out of an old shoe.
@Tony: Yup
@mauledbypandas: Ha
@Long Bawls: Makes perfect sense.
@Tony: Ha!
@Grey: nice, went ahead and moved in on the glass chipper before i got the response, but when he’s playing he’s money, minor’s not even in the bigs, I couldn’t believe he was sitting there in my RCL! and MGD 64 still sucks…. but if it keeps the wife skinny!
Three double plays for Albert…
Anyway, this dude said he’s willing to trade Teix for a “top 25 SP” and a “lesser offensive player.” Would Oswalt/Kila do the trick?
Jeez, Rodney is so painful to watch.
@Eddy: I was just thinking how painful it must be to have him as a closer. His picture should be next to Brain Freeze in the Razz glossary.
@mauledbypandas:
Seriously. That Gordon foul ball had me choking on my heart.
@Tony: Ha!
@Another trade?: Doubtful
@Eddy: Yeah, it’s weird cause he throws hard too.
@Grey: Better pickup in Standard Leagues: Fowler, Beltran, D.Lee or Chippa? I need someone to replace Morse who I already lost faith in after a stellar 0-4 day.
@Eddy: huzzah! Weaver gets his win, Rodney “saves” the game
I knew Gordon wouldn’t let the Rodney owners down.
@mauledbypandas:
Got both in a league and Rodney in three!
@Steve:
Can always count on him to disappoint .
@Grey:
It’s that Rick Ross beard screwing with him. So how have your teams fared so far today?
so far so good! Could have used a full slate of games, but I guess Selig knows what he is doing (read as: doesn’t have a clue)
looking forward to tonight. Does anyone know if Vin Scully still does the radio for the Dodgers? Heard he might be retiring.
Does anyone else pronounce Venable as Veh-NAAH-blay? No one ever knows who I’m talking about.
Anybody else love Bourjos’ Little League triple? Bunt single, bad throw to first, advanced to second, bad throw to second, advanced to third.
Fuck, it’s the Royals, he should have just taken off for home.
Fellow Razzers…
Mixed league draft this weekend – Can someone point me toward the spreadsheet that I’ve seen people talking about? Thanks!
@Mike D.: Email me – sglyonatgmail.com
@Money$: Beltran
@Steve: Ha
@Eddy: Well, we have Holliday all over the place and Grandy so that’s not bad. Pitching wasn’t great.
@mauledbypandas: He does
@Travis: Yeah, was nice.
@grey- worth having venturs or fuentes? Kimbrel got the save today for the braves and bailey should be back in mid to late April
I’ve seen enough World Series to only know this for a fact: Jhonny Peralta will be the World Series MVP.
@Martin: Fuentes
@geophrey: Probably
A couple of roater questions to open the season Grey. Domonic Brown finally hit the DL in my dynasty league, so I have a spare roster spot for a little while. So do I go for Belt sitting on the FA or a 3B to possibly cover Ian Stewart until Youk regains 3B eligability in 5 games time?
Best 3B options are Chase Headley, Dan Johnson, Danny Valencia or Encarnacion. Not too inspiring, but its only until I can slot Youk back into 3B afterall.
Also, James Shields or Pineda as my last (8th) starter? Yeah, we have a deep bench.
@Bad Bob: Encarnacion for now… Pineda…
@Bad Bob: Sorry, brain fart that this was a dynasty. Grab Belt.
not having Kershaw on any teams this year is giving me serious sad face.
So glad that I have Weaver and Kershaw to clean up Volquez’ mess in one of my leagues.
Watching Kershaw pitch makes me salivate. 3 Ks to end the 1st inning.
Damn you, Grey, you’ve made me a K-whore…..and I absolutely love it.
@mauledbypandas:
Trade for him, man. He has a legit shot to win the Cy.
@Eddy: first stinker he puts up I will greet his owner with a trade offer the next day. I’ve had him every year, but just didn’t want to pay what he cost this year
Grey, I emailed ZK about the spot left in his commenter league and he said it closed a while ago, so that needs to be updated. Haven’t heard back from Eric (#38) yet. Is that my last chance?
@mauledbypandas: Yeah, that’s sad emoticon stuff.
@Eddy: Ha!
@Tom Emanski: Gotcha, thanks for the update!
AL: Red Sox, White Sox, Rangers, Yankees
NL: Braves, Brewers, Giants, Phillies
ALCS: Red Sox over Yankees

AL CY: Lester
NL CY: Halladay
AL MVP: Longo
NL MVP: Braun

*Do not book it.
Oh, and Clayton Kershaw is ridiculous.
@Grey: Do you know anything about league 38? It was started on March 3 and it’s listed as having 11 spots open.
I hope Kershaw has brought his jumbo-size broom, for he is sweeping up after Axford.
Grey
need a speed guy
Bourjos or Fowler?
Just saw a shot of Scully in the booth on ESPN. Did anyone else notice that awesome picture of The Honky Tonk Man in the background? As a man who looks at an autographed photo of King Kong Bundy every time I use the bathroom, I can appreciate that.
@Lines: Lincecum vs. Kershaw in the twilight seems unfair.
@Tom Emanski: He said he was sending out invites then I hadn’t heard back. Not sure exactly.
@Steve: Ha
@Dave: Bourjos
@3FingersBrown: Damn, I missed it.
Vin Scully is perhaps the coolest old dude in the world. I hope he never retires
Man, take Kemp out of that Dodgers lineup and it’s nothing special.
Kershaw is just filthy tonight. 8 k’s through 4… wow
@mauledbypandas: Without a doubt… Retiring after this year though.
@mauledbypandas: So filthy.
@Grey: noooooo! oh man. I need to trade for as many Dodgers as possible and watch every game. He doesn’t travel outside of the NL West though if I remember correctly. Very sad, but at least I have Kemp on one team. And I will have Kershaw, i will!!!
@Grey: I have Morneau on my team but with his history of getting injured for large parts of the season I would like more stability. His production is great, but you never know when he’s going down for 60 games. Interestingly enough, one of the other managers in my league has guys like A-Gon and Votto on the trading block. I’d take either in a second, but he is not responding to messages of mine trying to feel out what he would want in a trade. He has hitting and plenty of great pitching.
So, given my roster, who would you offer up first in a trade (with Morneau) to gauge his interest without getting burned by giving up too much?
Mauer
Morneau
Uggla
Beltre
Furcal
Heyward
Swisher
Huff
Andres Torres
Gardner
Freddie Freeman
Chris Carpenter
Cole Hamels
Oswalt
Brian Wilson
Andrew Bailey
CJ Wilson
Jaime Garcia
@mauledbypandas: Yup, home games and NL West away games.
@Viagra Falls: Try and put in Garcia, then Wilson and work your way backwards until Oswalt. I’d keep Morneau though.
@Grey: Do you think someone would be convinced enough to part with Cano by offering up Uggla and Garcia, etc?
@Viagra Falls: Probably not but can try.
As a Royals guy it really doesn’t get much better than Opening Day.
But watching Kershaw v. Lincecum, knowing we passed on both and took Hochevar, really curbs the excitement of today. Like a lot.
@Grey: Im sure this has probably been asked prior, but is Walden the clear backup to Rodney?
As a Royals guy it really doesn’t get much better than Opening Day.
But watching Kershaw v. Lincecum, knowing we passed on both and took Hochevar, really curbs the excitement of today. Like a whole bunch.
@Whiskey Diet: yeah,i think id have a strong drink on that one
How come that Lincecum run was earned?
Hey All:
I’m a big spot starter, trying to avoid the big hitting teams with all but my best and throwing extra starts at the shitty offensive teams.
Who are y’all projecting to be the big offensive teams and conversely who can’t hit their way out of a paper bag?
@High Upside: Bouncer hit to McGehee with runners on first and second. He tried to go for the tag and throw across the diamond for two and ended up missing the runner (phillips?) with the tag (questionable) and being late on the throw (no doubt). Bases loaded and no one out. Gomes sack fly. Cargo (imposter) jumps for a fly ball clearly not leaving the park but tries to add a degree of difficulty bonus. Keeps runner on second from tagging and going to third though (which is funny because he throws like Johnny Damon). Like a true rolaids man, Axford gets the next two out before surrendering the awful walkoff on a high and outside pitch a foot off the plate (looked like a change that got left up). Blech, when will these closers learn to get beat on their best pitch??? Yes, I own Axford and Gallardo in a lot of leagues.
Good thing I also own Kershaw.
Axford + Kershaw = Almost tolerable.
@eddy. Trying to puzzle that one out myself. Great game though
@AL KOHOLIC: We’re on the same page. This three-finger cocktail eases a bit of the pain.
@Eddy: I don’t think it was, Yahoo boxscore says 1r 0er
@Mauledbypandas: @brettj72:
Nevermind, fellas. I was looking at ESPN and they scored it earned for a second, then later changed it to unearned. Thanks.
I gotta say, as an owner of Lincy, Kershaw (have them both in RCL and Kershaw in a H2H league) and Belt in two leagues, this game couldn’t have played out better.
Terrific game by both pitchers, none of them gave up a run, plenty of Ks, and Belt got on base twice (OBP leagues).
I wish it were always this simple.
Oh Noh Kuo.
BROXTON SCARE!
@Grey: Don’t you think it’s ridiculous that Don Mattingly is clean shaven and wearing #8? A mustachioed Donnie in #23 would win them 100 games, easily.
Grey- I flipped Gaby Sanchez and Greinke for Butler and Utley (hoping for courageous return). Bold and solid or dumb?
First day *ever* owning Kemp and Kershaw.
I heart those guys.
@Grey: Got WHIP-ed by Volquez and Gallardo today in the ol’ H2H. Could start Kennedy tomorrow, and opponent is starting Guthrie.
a) What the hell, it can’t get any worse.
b) Don’t make a bad thing worse.
c)
Sheesh Axford murdered me today, not onlydid he blow up the save but lost the game for Gallardo.
@15 Per Cent:
Utley make never take a swing this year for all we know.
@Steve:
It can always get worse!
@Steve:
Im bummed I didnt get Shaw this year
Which bench bat for 16-team H2H-mixed points league?
