if someone were smart enough to set up a draft date/time and run a new league with the following parameters , i would gladly join :

12 teams
5×5 vanilla … one catcher
1250 innings limit
cost $50
prizes :
1st non-grey person …. $100
2nd non-grey person …. $50
top Grey – person …. $450

i believe this would be a nice way to give back to our “community” .

any interest ??

Tentatively, i’m going for Andrus, A. Escobar, or both. I like hedging my bets by having a couple guys who could work out (unless of course i have the #2 pick or Tulo falls to me at the right time).

But this is something i’ll think about late into Spring Training. I’ll be pretty swamped in February so i’ll have to re-evaluate in March.

@Real Tom: I think he's just a utility man, but if Stewart's terrible and Mora hits it could be an issue. No different than Reynolds last year with Chad Tracy.

@Simply Fred: In a perfect world, i might have Kinsler and Stewart on my team, wait for Stewart to break out and deal Kinsler to fill any holes i might have. Tried this last year, actually, but Stewart didn't hold up his end of the bargain.

I’m a fan of Kinsler. He was a borderline 1st rounder last year, and would be up there again if not for his 2009 avg (which was on the low side of his range). And I’ll be punting SS in almost every draft this year so having a sure thing at 2B is important.

That being said, Phillips is a good pick two rounds later but you’re taking a gamble that he’ll still be there. The drop off comes pretty quickly after that. I like Stewart but I liked him a lot last year too and that didn’t work out so hot. I don’t want to depend too heavily on Stewart unless i have a good shortstop to balance the risk.

@sean: Agree with much you say. I don't trust Kinsler (likely to fade 2nd half for sure) and won't be drafting him either. Phillips could indeed break out big time. I am targeting Stewart at 2B, so still hoping to get another bigger bat (than Phillips) late 3rd or 4th. Just was pointing out, given some significant Razz projection advantages for Kinsler why "some" would be enamored with him. Hopefully, explains it, not justifies it.

Grey’s earlier commentary: Is he that different than Brandon Phillips? They’re both six-feet tall, weigh around 200 lbs, injured more times than I’d like and their birthdays are six days apart. Maybe they’re one player pulling The Alex P. Keaton When He Had Two Dates For The Prom And He Had To Keep Switching His Tie trick.

Razzball projections:
Kinsler: 110/29/80/.270/34
Phillips: 80/22/95/.275/22

I’m inclined to agree with Grey that these guys are clones (save for Phillips’ defense which is a huge asset in real baseball). They both play in hitters’ parks.

I actually think that Phillips is more in line to exceed projections because of being sandwiched in between potentially monster seasons of Votto and Bruce. 30/35 is a bit bullish on Kinsler, who has yet to show that he can handle a whole season, mentally or physically.

That said, in the second round, I’d much rather be taking Holliday, Wright, Sizemore, or others instead of Kinsler in the second and I’ll be looking to nab Phillips in the late third or even the fourth where I’ve seen him sliding…

I can make up the 5/5 later on in the draft. I’ve got issues with picking MIs not named Hanley or Chase in the first two rounds.

sleeper??: Brewers outfielder Corey Hart lost 22 pounds this winter.
Hart has never had a problem with weight management, but getting in excellent shape certainly isn’t going to hurt his performance. The 27-year-old hit .260/.335/.418 with 12 home runs in 472 at-bats last season. He said he lost the weight with an “insanity” workout plan.

@Grey: can you please explain to me the difference between Kinsler (who folks seem to “love”) and Phillips (who folks seem to draft begrudgingly). Phillips seems to me like the clear pick of the two because he comes at a two-round discount and they are basically clones.
