I think I’m approximately six weeks late on this, but if you read Razzball daily (of course you do, you reader, you!) then you’ve read before some, if not all, of these predictions. So what now? Read them again. They won’t hurt you. Plus now that I’ve put all of my ‘preseason’ predictions in one place, we can look back at this later in the year and laugh. Oh, and we will laugh. Who’s your NL MVP? Soriano? Oh, you do kid, Grey. You do! Anyway, here’s my predictions for baseball’s post-season awards and whatnot:
AL Pennant Winner – Tampa Bay Rays. I really didn’t want to pick the defending AL champions because that’s lame, and I made a resolution to be unlame this year. Alas, I went through each AL team’s pitching staff and the Rays were the choice.
NL Pennant Winner – Los Angeles Dodgers. Their lineup wins the division with ease then in a playoff series their pitching can beat the Cubs and Mets.
World Series Champion – Los Angeles Dodgers. I’ve never been to a World Series game and would like to go. Thank you!
AL ROY – Travis Snider. I wanted to call this guy Travis Lind. Weird!
NL ROY – Dexter Fowler. I think he’s a top 30 player by 2011. Wave of the future… Wave of the future…
AL Cy Young – Josh Beckett. The Sawx will give him a chance for 20 wins and he can do the rest.
NL Cy Young – Chad Billingsley. You didn’t think I was going to pick Joel Pineiro, did you?
NL MVP – Alfonso Soriano. I expect a huge year from Soriano but he needs to stay healthy for 130 games. Hey, maybe all his bad injury karma will be absorbed by Milton Bradley. God knows Bradley could stand for some karmic retribution.
AL MVP – Miguel Cabrera. Since the BBWAA picks MVPs partially on how well a team does, this is a longshot at best, unless Cabrera becomes the Tigers number three starter. And number four starter. And closer.
Now put your picks in the comments and we’ll look back on this in November and mock each other.

grey would you drop encarnacion for ian stewart?
In a somewhat related question to michael’s, would you drop Ian Stewart for Edward Encarnacion?
or edwin perhaps?

NL pennant: Cardinals

NL MVP: Pujols
NL Cy Young: Haren
AL MVP: Cabrera
AL Cy Young: Greinke

AL – LA Angels: The line-up looks pretty good, and the pitching will get healthy.
NL – NY Mets: Bolstered bullpen, decent line-up… Need one more starter tho – via trade in the summer.
ALROY – David Price: To take the league by storm in less than a month.
NLROY – Dexter Fowler: I also like Fowler, so why the hell not!
ALCY – Josh Beckett: Came close a couple of years ago, has the right tools and team around him to do it.
NLCY – Josh Johnson: What?… I like the name Josh. F’ing biblical.
ALMVP – Miggy Cabrera: he’s gonna be fantasy MVP too.
NLMVP – Albert Pujols: looks good early.

pasting the question I have in prior post. need to decide in just a few minutes. leaning toward reynolds today.
With Aramis out, I’ve got to choose between Reynolds and Davis as my 3b today. Reynolds is in the lineup today, batting 5th against righty Piniero. Not sure if Davis will be in the lineup tonight or not but Texas is facing LHP Hendrickson. Davis did hit a HR last night but followed that with 3 K’s. Will he get a “day off” today?
Thoughts?
Bueller? Bueller?
Davis. I mean, they haven’t really shown to give Davis days off against lefties yet.
@Frank Rizzo: I’d go Reynolds if Davis is facing a lefty.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Reynolds is in by default. Ran out of time. Like his chances today batting 5th.
Running out of time tends to be my best way of lineup setting. I have been randomly going into yahoo today and flipping Rios and Corey Hart in my lineup. I’ll probably wind up doing this a couple more times and last one in when I run out of time is the lucky one.
Just traded Quentin and Beltre for Chris Davis and Markakis in my 18 team R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS league. Davis also comes with 3B eligibility. Is that trade as awesome as I think it is? As long as Davis is for real, it’s gold I think.
AL- BlueJays
NL- Dodgers
WS- Bluejays
NL MVP- ManRam
AL MVP- Lind
AL cy young-Halladay
NL cy young-Billingsly
AL ROY-Snider
NL ROY-Fowler
Start Hamels against the Nats tomorrow? He was hit hard last time, but it’s the nats…
So that gives me a lineup of John Baker, Ryan Howard, Alexei Ramirez, Chris Davis, Felipe Lopez/Elvis Andrus, Sparkakis, Nelson Cruz, Dukes/Maybin/Daniel Murphy
Best 18 team lineup ever? And it’s not even like I’m weak on pitching. I have Beckett, Haren, Josh Johnson, Jimenez, Francisco, Valverde, Wade, R. Soriano, Masterson, Madson, and T. Buchholz.
Is there a Razzball word for prematurely ejaculating all over your team?
AL pennant: Rays
NL pennant: Marlins
World Series: Rays
NL MVP: Brian McCann
NL Cy Young: Josh Johnson
AL MVP: Miguel Cabrera
AL Cy Young: A.J. Burnett
NL ROY: Dexter Fowler
AL ROY: Matt Wieters
Heads up
Chris Perez was called up by the Cardinals today, take a chance if you have room. Just don’t count on him being closer yet.
@Frank Rizzo: The one you don’t play will hit the HR. That’s a truth as old as time.
@IowaCubs: Marlins? For realz?
And there’s no way Burnett stays healthy all year.
I’m starting to feel like I’m going to regret dropping Fowler….
@BigFatHippo: Hmmm. Drop Villacrapneuva for Perez? Anyone?
AL pennant: Blue Jays over Yankees
NL pennant: Dodgers over Cubs
World Series: Dodgers over Blue Jays
NL MVP: David Wright
NL Cy Young: Josh Johnson
AL MVP: Alex Rios
AL Cy Young: Roy Halladay
NL ROY: Dexter Fowler
AL ROY: Travis Snider
@Baron Von Vulturewins: AJ’s gotta have 30 good starts in him doesn’t he? That means 18 wins, right?
The Marlins have some revenue sharing money they can nurture for a midseason trade. It wouldn’t shock me to see them trade for someone like Hawpe. There’s something very scrappy about this Marlins’ team that I like.
Well, Burnett IS due for some luck this season after getting pretty unlucky last season. But seriously, how is anyone in the AL better than Roy Halladay? Cliff Lee didn’t deserve it last year and he sure as hell won’t win this year. It’s Doc all the way with CC a distant 2nd.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: I picked him up and dropped Motte. Thinks that’s the wisest move, not sure I’d drop Villacrapueva. At least he gets save chances.
MVP- Felipe Lopez, he’ll get 400 base hits this year.
@mikey boy324: @knighttown: I prefer Encarnacion for now.
@Frank Rizzo: Sorry was at a lunch meeting. Reynolds is fine there.
@SP: I like it.
@BigFatHippo: Thanks for the heads up!
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Eh, I wouldn’t drop him yet.
@IowaCubs: AJ’s not making 30 starts.
AL pennant: Rays
NL pennant: Cubs

NL MVP: Albert Pujols
NL Cy Young: Chad Billingsley
NL ROY: Dexter Fowler
AL MVP: Evan Longoria
AL Cy Young: Josh Beckett
AL ROY: Matt Wieters
Grey you silly little boy if someone new stumbled upon your fun little site they would think you waited a week to see who got off to hot starts and picked those teams, players for your post season awards. But us as your daily readers know that you would never pick the team that looks just as good as last year (rays) or a pitcher that was dominant in his first outing (Beckett), or one that looks downright filthy (billingsley), a couple of rookies that have looked great in the early going and have JOBS (Fowler and Snider) or a guy that has went crazy the first week (Cabrera). We know that you would never stoop this low…
AL Angels

AL Cy Young AJ Burnett
NL Cy Young J Santana
AL ROY M Weiters

Oh and Wakefield has a no-no through 6. Freaking Wakefield!!!
of course it is just Oakland.
I am giving up james shields and getting theriot and carl crawford. I am need of stolen bases, but would have to sit chris davis or adam jones to make room for crawford since I have Bay and Rios as my OF. Pull the trigger? I have tons of SP depth, btw.
@Grey: Think Felipe keeps this up? He seems to be right on top of every pitch, plus contract year, plus showing up to camp in shape for a change.
Obviously I was joking about the MVP.
@Grey: I’d like to thank you all for not answering me earlier. Reynolds just hit a 2 run dinger. It was divine intervention I believe.
@Grey: Would you drop any one of these guys for Perez?: Corpas, Villanueva, J. Sanchez?
AL- Twins

@aconstipatedmonkey: And Wake’s starting for me on my Razzball team. Godblessit!
@Frank Rizzo: Hehe. No, it was Piniero.
@Frank Rizzo: That’s two sonavabenching HRs from Reynolds in two days. At least I sat him for Flippy the Wonder Lopez, so it hasn’t been a total loss.
Drop Kendry Morales for Chris Duncan? He’s getting a lot of play in that outfield.
@IowaCubs: Wow, that was comment 666, no less! (and to clarify, Wakefield is on my FRL, not my RCL)
Also, would you rather own Fowler, Spilbourgs or Span as a 5th OF in h2h?
Albert has 12 RBI, all those with the #1 pick who passed on him say “Aye”,
“Good face” has the number 2 ranking in all of TSN’s fantasy baseball rankings. I expect that no one’s dumb enough to care about this but I’m going to try and turn that into a better asset. Robbing the weak is a huge part of fantasy baseball.
I made an offer of Good Face and Edwin Jackson for Josh Johnson that was fairly laughed at but can you throw out a half dozen names at any position that would be a great return on investment?
@BigFatHippo: I own him in the RCL. I’m not proud of this.
SAGNOF ALERT: Houston Street was pulled in the 9th inning today after allowing a HR to Lee and two walks. What does this mean? Corpas?? Daddy like.
is street done?
@Dave: I’m sneaky!
@johnson21: It’s fine, but not sure why you’re trading for a guy that will force you to sit Davis or Jones. Can’t you trade Davis for something? Or Jones for Theriot if you need him? There’s got to be something else you can do.
@BigFatHippo: I touted Felipe for like two weeks in March. Yeah, I like him a lot. He’s better than Pujols. There, I said it!
@IowaCubs: Sanchez
@IowaCubs: I know, but you should be. I’m proud to own Theriot, not as proud of course but pleased nonetheless.
@IowaCubs: Kazaam!
@knighttown: Try someone who opened the season slumping. Chris Davis for one. Or try for a closer. Maybe Qualls after he was hit yesterday.
AL: yankees
NL: dodgers
WS: yankees (and I’m a hater, but this is the first time in a while they’ve had a solid rotation)

AL MVP: Miggy (wins 2 of three legs of the triple crown)
AL Cy Young: Halladay
NL Cy Young: Santana (Citi looked like a Venus fly ball trap on Sunday night)
AL ROY: Price
NL ROY: McCutchen
@Grey: That Lyon guy just keeps hanging around.
Time to drop him for Perez?
AL Cy Young = Greinke
@Steve: I would drop Lyon for Perez
Grey, No takers for Davis and need him for his power. I think I can shop Adam jones around after trading for Crawford. Do you see more value in Crawford or jones?
@Steve: Yeah, go for it.
@johnson21: Crawford
Here’s a list of starting pitchers. I have some of them on my team. Others are in the free agent pool. Anyone want to rank them?
Kenshin Kawakami, Koji Uehara, Kyle Davies, Kevin Slowey, Hiroki Kuroda, Jeremy Guthrie, Gil Meche, Wandy Rodriguez, Max Scherzer, Chris R. Young, Manny Parra, and Clayton Kershaw.
@Grey: Have I missed something about Perez?
@Grey: Also, would you trade Fielder for Atkins/Qualls. I own Prince, am I giving up too much?
Never mind that first Q, I was thinking Rafael, duh!
@Eric: Slowey, Young, Scherzer, Kershaw, Wandy, Parra, Kawakami…I only go to 7.
@BigFatHippo: I don’t think so. Why? Lyon? He’s pile of garbage. Brandon, not Steve.
@BigFatHippo
I wouldn’t trade Fielder for Qualls and Atkins. I think you’re giving up too much.
@BigFatHippo: Hold Fielder.
@Eric: Just trying to cut down on Ks, but yeah, you’re right.
@Grey: “Brandon, not Steve.”
Ha!
What’s with all the love for Fowler = ROY? Will he even play every day?
I heart U Ryan Ludwick!
Too creepy? I don’t care!
@Grey: Spot start Eric Stultz tomorrow vs. SF? Man, I loved him in Pulp Fiction but can he pitch?
Also, drop J Zimm for him?
I seem to have a spare slot thanks to Nady. You should be Swisher, jerk. Who gets to be the lucky new member of Harvey Birdman, Esq.? Fowler, Price, Hanson, Anibel are all on teams. Who is under the radar I should be looking for.
I’ve just completed my Fowler harvest.I scooped him for 4 of my 5 teams,I did have to sacrifice Morales in one of my pickups, but hey! I was caught up in Fowlermania.
@BigFatHippo: Ha! Nice. Don’t drop Zimmermann yet.
@p0rk burn: Hmm… Give me a few names that are possibilities.
@Doug Ault: Don’t sleep on him! (He look boney.)
@Grey: Drop Hanson for him?
@BigFatHippo: Eh, hold tight.
K, thanks!
Drop Hanson to pick up Nyjer off waivers? Sorry to be a pain in the ass but I’m surfing my annual second week power move.
@Grey:What’s your thoughts on this comparison between Maybin and (my new best buddy) Dexter?
http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/FantasySourceFastball/entry/view/23126/accuscore_comparison_fowler_vs._maybin
Hey Grey,
Drop Morales for Duncan?
Also, should I drop a waiver on Wang or is he dead man walking?
Are we picking up Masterson? Dump a Brett Anderson? I know Bucholtz pulled his ahmmy so he wont be up… you are a sneaky little blogger!
@BigFatHippo: Nyjer is not the makings of a power move. I’d still hold.
@Doug Ault: I named Fowler my ROY pick, so I obviously like him. Better than Maybin. But Maybin is more assured of playing time. If the Rox could lose some dead weight, then Fowler’s money.
@Grey: I moved this to the forums under Waiver Wire. Consider it the afterparty in the hotel lobby.
@cubbies299: Grab Duncan, if you want, but he’s going to be sitting here and there.
I’d grab some Wang.
@Dave: Grab Masterson. I don’t like Anderson.
@Grey: Kendry Morales, btw. Not Franklin. Who do you think has more potential as a 1B? Duncan or kendry
Heads up
Perez pitched a scoreless 7th with a walk and 2 K’s. Just posting it because Yahoo seems to be frozen on the Cards/Snakes game (still says bottom of 6 when it’s the middle of 8th, I hate when they do that).
@BigFatHippo: got me some perez,hope it works
1 2 3 eighth, nice audition!
When is it okay to start worrying about Braun?
@Falcon: Mid-May.
@Falcon: I got spooked by Braun before opening day.I flipped him for F Lopez and Fielder, so far the only one with a pulse is Lopez.Grey thinks Braun will come around.
@Falcon: @Doug Ault: Braun can easily still finish with 30 bombs, 100 RBIs, 10+ steals, and bat .280 or .285. If you don’t want that out of a pick cut him. Your best value is going to come from holding onto him and waiting for the turn around instead of trading him for pennies on the dollar. Don’t buy high and sell low. Thats not zagging when they zig, thats being rash.
Wheeler or Corpas? I only have one spot, but both are available.
@cubbies299: With the same number of ABs, I want Duncan, but he has less of a chance for ABs, so it’s pretty much a push. If you can play Duncan only when he’s playing, then go for it.
@Doc: Wheeler
Im in a 12 team league with 276 total rostered players and should I drop Milledge. The possible guys that I can drop for him are Luke Scott, polanco, mike cameron, fowler, jack cust, marlon byrd ,travis snider, bartlett, dukes, adam laroche, frenchie, daniel murphy and for pitchers zach duke, guthrie, edwin jackson, pelfrey, parra, aaron cook, snell. I need to narrow this down to like 2 or 3 who do you think is the best acquisiton or should I hold on to Milledge all together? Im not really lacking majorly in any of the 10 categories I just need a batter that puts solid #’s across the board or pitcher that doesnt hurt my era and whip and gets wins
thanks in advance
@G: Snider
@p0rk burn: I’ve been trying to come up with an offer for Braun but can’t seem to pull the trigger. Every time I shake the Majic 8 Ball it comes up….”Don’t trade Cruz and Ludwick for Braun, what’re you, nuts?”
That and “Ask me again later” but it always says that.
@Grey: @BigFatHippo: Ha! That would have been so much funnier without the qualifier.
Funnily enough, a couple of years back there was a high-flying property developer with the same surname as me and Brandon (but no relation to either of us) who fell in with a bad crowd and got involved in drugs etc and was eventually arrested and incarcerated.
Made for some great headlines with Lyon in them. My fave? “Lyon living like a pig, says hotelier”.
BTW, I can’t get Perez. The guy who picked him up when I dropped him the first time still has him.
@Steve: looks like your catching on to this 7×7 keeper pretty fast
@AL KOHOLIC: Beginners luck.
And a bit of research
@BigFatHippo: Cruz’s potential plus Ludwick’s stats, even when tamped from last year, is a bit too much to give up for Braun. Either one packaged with a lesser closer or a solid MR (Marmol-esque, Marmolian?) seems more reasonable.
Anybody know when J.Zimmermann is expected to start? God knows the Nats could use some pitching.
i am a confused baseball fan this year. i am a lifelong red sox fan with a yankee partial ticket plan for the past 5 years only because i LOVE baseball—-see, it is already confusing!! I find myself really not liking the Yankees but I also do not like the Red Sox. What is so special about either of these teams?? I think the Yankees are VERY old and a huge liability on D. The Sawx have the new face of the franchise—My Little Pony and Youk. Other than that its Beckett and an overrated pitching staff and over-exuberent fans jacking up expectation…..just like in the Bronx!
I need a new team for 09 and its the Rays—-youth and passion and love of the game will overcome evil megasquads built on taxpayer dough and overpriced tickets. I ordered a cowbell on E-Bay and I am working on the mullet.

Villanueva or Perez? I currently have Villa…
@p0rk burn: He doesn’t need a closer, I do. Trying to get Braun/Capps and thought about offering Cruz/Lud/Wheeler.
Alas, I shook the Majic 8 Ball and it said, “Ask again later”. Go figure!
@p0rk burn :@BigFatHippo: Do you think I did well scooping Prince and Lopez for Braun?………….be gentle
@madx34: Right idea, wrong Florida team. Its the Marlins this year. We are even winning over the Cubs fans, just ask IowaCubs. If you want youth and passion you need the fish. The taxpayers won’t be footing bills around here for another couple of years – but man is that new stadium going to be sweet. Too bad about the Orange Bowl though.
damn grey…i read the theme of the assignment, thought about it long and hard, wrote out my homework, and never once looked at your picks. I SWEAR I wasn’t looking over your shoulder!
@Doug Ault: If you needed the help at Felipe’s position (not Jose, right?) I don’t see that trade as being particularly bad for you. Fielder is the pure power hitter so you gave up the 10+ steals Braun can get you for a slightly lower average and probably higher RBI and HR totals. As long as you replaced a schmoe with Lopez I wouldn’t lose sleep over it.
@vinko: I think this was answered earlier (I’m parroting the answer, not rapping your knuckles for not reading) and the advice was Nueva while he’s closing.
@Doug Ault: If you needed a 1B and middle infidel you did good, as long as you still have a strong outfield. If so, that’s a great move, cheers!
hey so I have 4 UTIL players that I platoon. JD drew, Murphy, Choo, and Gordon. And i was thinking about dropping one for a pitcher like sonnaste, zimmerman, ricky romero, or porcello. Should I do this
@p0rk burn: Asked Grey’s Team Name Generator about the trade. Sigh……..
Turns out I’m Ludwickian WallBangers! I’m standing pat!
So I currently have Street & Villanueva and I’m thinking of dropping 1 or both for the following:
Soriano, Aardsma, Franklin, Nunez, Corpas, & Casilla
I’m leaning towards dumping them both for Soriano & Franklin. Thoughts?
@ porkbun
HanRam for MVP??
loving the josh johnson as well.
I think good face is more 2 Face and crashes hard—just a hunch.
The fish are due though. World Series …tear it apart…world series….tear it apart….tear it apart again….world series?
something about 14K in a football stadium makes me go GGGRRRRRRRR. I have seen bigger gates in Pawtucket MANY times
@BigFatHippo: That sounds like a Baroque porn.
@p0rk burn :@BigFatHippo: I was very thin up the middle and stacked in the outfield.I figured Prince might hit for more power than Braun on a good day, and Filepe(less the promised steals as of yet) has been as I had hoped.I can’t give Holiday away…….now he’s a guy I have real concerns
@Martin: Platooning 4? That’ll put you in the Cuckoo’s Nest.
Lose Murphy for Zimm, Murph looks like an idiot in LF, surely he can’t hold that everyday job for long.
@deepee: Keep them until they stop getting saves.
@madx34: I hope they get another series soon, I missed the last one by a few years. Miami fans in general are the ultimate bandwagoners, the minute any team heats up everybody is a fan. Until then, fuhgeddaboutit. It has its upside when the teams are down though, $6 tickets and the ability to sneak down to 5 rows from first base? Doesn’t get better than that. Good luck getting those seats at the Pawtucket game for that price.
@porkbun
I got u beat…but only one night
my bud runs the local espn radio sation and its his staton’s night at mccoy..

other than that…thats why all these red sox yahoos who want to pay $100 for $45 face and sit behind a pole at Fenway cuz that dump is “special”….have a good time. Bring another C-Note for beer cuz JD Drew for 15 mil a yr needs to come from somewhere
Grey, tell Turnip you need a “Back to the top” button down here.
250 comments gets harder to scroll back to the top if you’ve made several in a row. Back button just takes you back to the original position.
Just a thought, you’re getting so popular the inbox keeps getting overloaded, I predict you get offered Berry’s job in a year. Not that you would do that, you’re not a sellout are you?

No takers on my trade at #121?
to all you Yankee backers….please explain to me why???
how??? i am sorry but i see this lineup that you are riding to ring 29
C– Posada …old and coming off injury
1B –Texeira…first time exposure to media frenzy..talented yet traded numerous times in young career
2B Cano ….still waiting
SS Jeter…old and perhaps the most media driven over rated player of his time
3B nothing needs to be said

AJ– bastion of health
Chow Mein— looks GREAT so far…coming off injury..its ok it was just his leg—pitchers don’t need them
Pettitte—was old 4 years ago
Joba—better served in ‘pen (or right before last call?)

@madx34: Blaspheme – Sawx fan with Yankee tickets. I think my credit card would melt. I go to the CT Defenders for cheap baseball within a 10 minute drive. Love when Portland Sea dogs come to town to watch Tazawa pitching and Lars tee off before I can only afford to watch them from the comfort of my own home with cheap beer, no obstructed view, and Jerry Remy’s commentary.
@madx34: That rotation has a high enough K rate to forgive an awful defense. If…IF(!) the Yankees stay healthy they’ve bought a lot of time for their young arms(and the talented younger arms in A ball) enough time to help this year, next year, and on. That’s huge because nobody is talking about Phil Hughes, and he is getting a chance just to work on his pitching in the minors. Two home runs is all that keeps Derek Jeter from having no extra base hits so far this season. That’s the elephant in the room that the Yankees won’t face and everyone knows will be a problem. Looks like this year is when it becomes too obvious to finally overlook.
I don’t know how you can bet against Tampa’s pitching staff. They had 4 starters make 30+ starts last year, and Kazmir made 27. That is beyond a wealth of pitching when you factor in David Price.
I just think the Red Sox will beat the Rays in a playoff series, but picked them more so the Cubs can beat the Red Sox for the World Series.
did kinsler just hit for the cycle?
Someone please tell me a why I know a slider out of the zone is coming on a 1-2 count and Matt Kemp doesn’t. God Dammit.
@Steve: Lowe shit the bed for me in the rcl or I’d be closing in there.
@Endless Summer:
i like the deal, if only because you are getting the best hitter in the game for two pitchers who maybe underperform this year due to health concerns. of course, the deal also depends on the depth of your pitching staff, but if you have the pitchers then good deal. if not and webb and lincecum have the years like they are capabable, it may be tough to make up the pitching stats.
anyone have any thought of dropping jose lopez for aaron hill? or should i sit tight, got kendrick currently filling 2nd.
@yoshinorimike: He did. Does he get an asterisk since it was against Mark Hendrickson? Kidding.
@madx34: Whoa man, this ain’t Yankee country and it deifinitely ain’t the place for obnoxo Sawx talk. Save that for the Whiner line, and I’m a Sawx fan.
Its all about fun and good fantasy talk.
@Endless Summer: Now mind you I suck but I like the trade for you. Lincee lanky build is showing distress, Webb, well you know, Pujols is Da’ Man and Price’s stuff is nasty, too nasty to stay in the minors, bear minimum he will zip through each team once until they get a book on him, and even then – he is still nasty.
@Peter G: That is exactly what I am thinking, and I have Shields, Beckett, Vazquez, Gallardo, Davies, Hanson, and Scherzer to keep my pitching going. Thanks for the reply!
@Endless Summer: so then two man tandem cycle, Kinsler and Hendrickson~
@BigFatHippo: Yeah – I had Lowe going in my H2H league. percy was crap too. At least my opponent has had Floyd and Dice-K this week.
This is probably my worst day of the season so far. Maybe Weaver and Cain can cheer me up.
@Peter G: I dislike Lopez, and Aaron Hill can be streaky but looks like he’s recovered from getting a concussion from a collision with…David Eckstein?
@BSA: Thanks BSA. I want Big Bad ‘Berto in the worst way, and I am more than happy to move on from Webb(Razzball I should have listened!)
Iannetta was just dropped, as a catcher whose better him or Sandoval?
@yoshinorimike: I am a Mariners fan but live in LA so I’ve seen a lot of Hendrickson and he is horrible. Nice call on the two tandem cycle, lol.
@Endless Summer:
As a New Englander I would like to see Dodgers/Sawx or Cubbies/Sawx.
Then again I think I broke a typing finger watching the Rays/Sawx series with Razzball and lost twenty pounds (I’m skinny already)
@BigFatHippo:
In the RCL I have nothing to crow about but I am happy with today as I played Anderson, Lowell, and Drew – the only thing I missed there was Anderson getting the win and as a Boston fan I’ll take it.
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Sandoval has the position eligibility but an incredibly poor walk rate(5 BB in 182 PA, 2.7%) so be careful he can go into huge slumps. I like Ianetta to break out this year.
@Endless Summer: i hate lopez too and i remember last year that hill was a sleeper and his numbers from two years ago were pretty good and comparable to lopez’s last year anyway. im going to offer around lopez, no takers, dropping him for hill. thanks for the advice
@Endless Summer: Good deal for you. Albert=MVP, HOF, best hitter of his generation, maybe any, possible triple crown.
@BSA….I live in Remy’s hometown—the guy is a TOOL on many fronts.
I had a Saturday pkg and could leave at 830 and be in the Bronx at 1115 for a 1PM game but the brokers stole all the tickets for profitable purposes so my Saturday pkg is now Monday thru Thursday—like that is going to happen!! I originally bought them for Yanks/Sox matchups and the love of the game—half way up the upper deck behind home plate for $14 a seat 5 yrs ago grew to $18 then $28 last year…still a great deal. Now I am just beyond 3B for $20 a seat but I have to do this thing called work Monday thru Friday so the tickets are meaningless to me. I will see Lars in Pawtucket which is fine but the Fenway thing isn’t attractive either. The place is a glorified dump, tickets are double face value if you get a decent deal and “The Nation” is out of control. I do not see the Sawx having that different of a situation then the Yankees talent wise. They are as hyped as Jeter by their following. Sorry if I piss off Yankee and Red Sox fans but I am a realist and that is the way I see it. Where are the Red Sox’ strengths? Youk and Pedroia? Beckett? All three are very good but I can argue question marks on all three.
@BSA: Good dog, sit!
@Steve: Bad dog, stay!
@BSA: Would New England or New York riot more over Joe Torre and Manny Ramirez in Dodger Blue at the World Series? You’re right, that needs to happen!
Getting Penny on an incentive deal might pay off HUGE for the Red Sox. I liken it to the Titans getting a similarly sluggish Albert Haynesworth motivated for his best year and only being so happy to send him on his way to Danny Snyder to overpay him.
@BigFatHippo:
I just don’t see Cain making you happy as O-Dog just sacrificed only to find himself on first with Furcal on second and Manny coming up.
@ BSA
no “Whiner” line here, Grey asked for predictions in what i perceived as a non-fantasy post….i just see a lot of Yankees world series predictions and i want to know why? Similarly…why will the Red Sox win the WS? I just think both are HUGELY overated. I love Tampa’s youth and exuberance. I see Florida making a huge step forward at the expense of the Mets and Phils. Its what makes baseball GREAT—-opinions and expressions of those opinions about the sport!!
@BSA: Made me happy when Manny flew out. Cain has thrown 48 pitches already though with 4 hits and 3 walks…
@ Endless Summer
Imagine a Boston/ Cubs Series….The media world would cream!!
I just can’t see it.
I’ve got a complicated trade question that I’ve been planning on asking in the forums, but I’m still waiting for my account to be activated. Should I not be waiting?
WTF Jarrod Washburn
@Dingo: you can ask here for now
@Peter G: As a Mariner fan, I want to love Jose Lopez. I really do. He is a poor defender at 2B, and I just mentioned Brad Penny in another post, but Lopez looks a lot like Penny: a player in poor physical and mental shape to ever put one great season together. His second half last year was really good, and I was expecting him to improve on it this year. You know the Mariners have sucked when you are emotionally attached to how well Jose Lopez does.
AL: White Sox
NL: Dodgers
WS: Dodgers
AL ROY: Matt Wieters
NL ROY: Colby Rasmus
AL MVP: Carlos Quentin
NL MVP: Manny Ramirez
AL CY: Felix Hernandez
NL CY: Chad Billingsley
@madx34: Too much rant to read.
Like I said – I like to watch from home. Moe money in my pocket and no DUI.
Heck living in Weston you should be able to afford those high priced dogs and beer in crappy seats without ranting.
“Nuff sed
@Endless Summer: The drama would be great.
@Steve: I too have Lowe, Cain, and Weaver pitching today. Looks like all of them are having a hard time finding the strike zone. They just might end up with a collective ERA below 4.00, but that WHIP is definitely staying above 2.00.
@madx34: I tried to give reasons against the Rays, but Longoria looks set, Upton makes that offense really take off, and it’s insane to bet against their pitching. Cubs/Red Sox would be more nuts, true. It really is too bad the Cubs couldn’t get Abreu instead of nutcase Milton Bradley to keep RHP honest against their lineup.
@Dingo: What I’m Keith Hernandez said(Hey Keith!), just ask here.
Alright I gotta go – Internet is blinking on and off and I can’t reply as fast as I want to tonight.
madx34 – I agree with some of your points.
Hippo and Steve – see you in the RCL – hopefully I’m done being the bug on the windshield.
Rorrimimage – AL – CWS Now that is going out on a limb.
Eh we’ll see!
@Rorrimimage: I haven’t seen a lot of Weiters for AL ROY on here. He’ll definitely have a great shot at it. I definitely think he is the rookie most likely to have his name butchered by New Yorkers. “Screw you Weetahs!”
Got offered Burnett and Morales for Big Papi and Mike Cameron (who I recently picked off the waiver wire). Keeper league, 12 teams @ 33 per team (10 keepers). Current pitching: Kazmir/Josh Johnson/Gallardo/Jimenez/Myers/Penny, with Wandy and Masterson on the bench and Carpenter now on the DL. In the OF, I have Ordonez/Dye/Ethier/Jackson/Choo in the OF, with Drew, Cameron, DeJesus, and Andruw Jones (don’t laugh) on bench. Yes, I wish I played Drew and Cameron this week.
If I did the deal, I’d have to start either Drew, DeJesus, or Orlando Cabrera at Util. I’d also think about moving a SP or two in an effort to get a stud hitter.
Should I do the deal?
@BSA: Careful you don’t hit me coming the other way.
by the way, my league is h2h/points
@BSA Remy isnt from Weston…..thats where he TOOL’ed up to
@Endless Summer….for $5 million why not Abreu?? That one didn’t make sense for a lot of teams—especially the Cubbies
@Dingo: Try and sign up again in the forums… We’ve had some problems last night, now it should be straight. Please comment on a post if you still can’t log in. And make sure after signing up, you activate the account from your email.
@I’m Keith Hernandez: All right, here goes:
A guy in my league is desparate for Saves, and he’s put all of his OFs on the trading block: Hamilton, Bay, Granderson, Victorino, Dunn, Krispie, and Ibanez. I’m not exactly lousy with closers, but I’ve got Mo Rivera, Fuentes, and Hoffman (DL), with Soriano and Franklin hanging around just for fun. For OFs, I’ve got Holliday, Vlad, Bruce, and Ethier. Do you see any possible trade combinations for us? Mostly I’d like to find a way to give OF + RP to get Hamilton, but I’m not sure what it would take.
Other relevant info: 11-team roto league, 7 x 7 with R, HR, RBI, AVG, SB, H, and OPS as offensive stats. Here’s my full roster:
C: Doumit
1B: Fielder
2B: Weeks
SS: Reyes
3B: Reynolds
OF: Holliday
OF: Vlad
OF: Bruce
Util: Ethier
Util: Votto
BN: Flippy Lopez
BN: Salty
BN: Yunel Escobar
SP: Halladay
SP: Vazquez
SP: Joba
SP: Cain
RP: Rivera
RP: Fuentes
P: Franklin
P: Soriano
BN: Lowe
BN: Weaver
BN: Kawakami
BN: Parra
DL: Hoffman
Thanks!
@Cap’n C: I’m not a huge fan of Burnett, but I’m even less a fan of Ortiz. That’s a good deal for you, I’d do it.
@Dingo: If you can flip Rivera and Ethier for Hamilton, I’d like that for you. Or Fuentes and Ethier for Bay.
@Grey: drop Fontenot for Aaron Hill?
@Grey: sorry, Snider, Dickerson or Burrell?
Better FA pickup now that Carpenter’s on the DL:
Dallas Braden
Brian Bruney
Doug Davis
Fred Lewis
Juan Rivera
Jeff Niemann
Don’t really need anything specific… none of these guys would start in my lineup right now. Thinking value for down the road.
What the heffin’ hey is Weaver doing?
Or not doing?
Whatever.
Who wins?
Holliday/Werth or Markakis/N. Cruz?
Sucking real bad in R and SB. Kick Kubel to the Kurb and take (blech) Endy Chavez for a spin?
@I’m Keith Hernandez: It’s gotta be Markakis-Cruz; I think both of those players are preferrable over their counterparts in the deal right now.
wow monster day for my team today thanks to Hill, Cruz and Kinsler
14 4 17 2 .447 (!)
and as a Dodgers fan I’m happy to see a vague consensus starting to shape around them as the team to beat this year (especially coming out of the uber-weak West)
Lowell’s doing well, but should I be concerned about health yet?
Should I wait a while and trade high, since I have Mark Reynolds and A-Ram?
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Definitely Markakis/Cruz, despite my bias because I have them. Hey, that makes us Markakis/Cruz buddies! HIGH FIVE!
@Zebo: Keep Aaron Hill. He’s a lock for the 2 spot in a lineup that’s actually hitting this year. You can expect 65ish extra base hits from him with lots of runs, good average and some steals.
@Zebo: Burrell
@Cap’n C: Lewis
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Markakis side
@Steve: If you need steals, go ahead, but he’s bad.
@Tom: What can you get for Lowell? No one’s going to want him.
@SP: so drop Fontenot then?
@SP: too late, while i was pondering whether to drop Fontenot, Hill was snatched up.
@Grey: what about keeping Snider to see if he is good for a while, and drop Edwin Jackson for Burrell?
@Grey: Morgan’s an alternative, although he hasn’t cleared waivers yet.
And while we’re all about using your waiver priority (I have the No.1) around here, I’m not sure he’s the best use of it this early in the season.
What I really need (among a lot of other things!) is for Maybin to get his shizz together.
What do you guys think of these 2B options:
Jose Lopez, Kelly Johnson, Felipe Lopez
I have Rollins, BJ UPton, and Rios, so speed isn’t a pressing concern.
@Griff: I like Felipe Lopez from that group. He’s pretty much set as their lead off guy so lots of runs. I heard somewhere that the D-Backs are gonna steal more this year so he’ll get plenty of SBs too.
Plus, Jose Lopez and Kelly Johnson are just boring. Unless the former is called J-Lo and the latter is a female porn star, they are just yawnstipating.

Safe to start Maine tomorrow against SD in the new ballpark, right?
I have all the pitching categories in hand in my H2H this week, so i’m starting to micromanage…
@Zebo: Sure, go ahead.
@Steve: I’d like that too.
@john: Start him.
@Grey: cool, thanks grey
Grey, Thanks for all your help at this hour. Drop Milledge for Masterson? In a 3OF league, I have Rios, A jones, and Bay. Werth is on my bench.
Also, drop Chris Perez for Aaron Hill? I have Bonifacio, but Hill might be a good spec add.
@johnson21: I’d drop Milledge, especially since you’re OF is good to begin with..as for Hill, i think that depends on if you’re in need of saves or not cuz Perez has a chance of being the closer if he does well in these first few appearances
@john:
Thanks brotha. I am thinking of adding Hill and dropping Milledge. I will see how Perez does cuz I am in dire need of saves. Its hard to drop Milledge cuz he was my 11th round draft pick!
@johnson21: Yeah, cut Milledge. I just wrote a post saying that. Grab Masterson. Don’t drop Perez. He was just called up.
@Grey: Thanks man! Much love.
@Grey: drop Edwin Jackson for Perez?
@Zebo: Perez
